..btw ...before I was educated with the differences in the Gens ...I simply asked the guy working the counter , who btw is the best salesman I've encountered... knowledgeable , no salesman babble or high pressure talk ....handed me the Gen 3 .... cheers
I ended up getting a g19 gen 4 about a week before the gen 5 was announced. Someone make me feel better about how the gen 5 is just a gen 4 without finger grooves. I’d hate to hear that some huge amazing improvement developed a week after i bought the “defunct” version lol.
I think the difference generations of Glock are like the different generations of iPhones - they’re all basically the same with really heavy marketing to get people to buy more!
Hi Chris, I hand a gen-5 Glock 17 in hand yesterday and the first thing I noticed was that it felt light, did you notice the same thing? I'm a Gen-3 fan and have never had even the slightest urge to upgrade, so now the Gen-5 hits and it's truly amby and I felt that twinge hit me, my wife is left handed. I did read that the chamber is now fully supported on the Gen-5 so bring on the +P+. Nice video and keep them rolling, you do a nice job.
Hey thanks for the comment and the feedback as always! I do not thing that there is a weight difference - at least I did not feel a weight difference in the hand. Per Glock's webpage, they rate in at the same weight. I do need to buy a scale, which is something I have been meaning to do for a while. I am also a fan of the Gen 3 - although the ambi controls are a huge plus in my book. Weather you are left or right handed, it is good to have ambi controls because you never know when you might have to switch hands in a defensive scenario.
Good video I'm actually moving over to glock 19 and 17 to train with and calling it done was looking at the gen3 and gen4 can't decide I don't care about extra features I just want the best one what would you recommend and why gen 3 or gen 4 in the 19 and 17 Thanks
So I live in California so I don’t get a choice. Regardless, I would choose gen 3, gotta love them finger grooves and the single recoil spring. Idk, it’s classic. Gotta love it.
I’m going to buy a glock my dealer has a gen 3 for 499 is that a good deal or should I buy the gen 5 wich one is better and will preform better see should I want till the come out with a new one? Like I’m confused 499 is cheap and I have that in cash and want to buy it but i don’t want to buy it and find out the game out with a better one are the gen 5 was way worth it
The new barrel will give you better accuracy than the previous generations. Sounds like new golf equipment, shoot straighter and further than before with this new club just like your previous club claimed!
One more comment... the gen3 magazine release was very positive and easy to use. In Gen4, they make a big paddle of a release button. If you do not hit that button in the right place it does not work... so effectively it is much worse than the smaller gen3 button.
I found in my rental range day, that in 9mm I found no feeling of more recoil with the gen 4 or 5. Basically I feel like there is more creature comforts added which are nice but for someone who wanted a basic gun with some added night sights the gen 3 was better for me. It was cheaper, I added the medium backstrap on newer gens any how, and if I ever decide I want to change anything, there are tons more options for gen 3 guns at this point. All three however are very good!
I prefer the gen 3 as well. The dual action spring, and guide rod is not an improvement. I dislike the dimpled trigger bar, not sure why it's a thing. I change them out. The ambi slide release is stupid, and doubles your chance of riding it, causing the slide to not lock back. Take down levers should be extended from the factory for ease of use. I do appreciate the bigger may button, but I still change them out to a quality steel part.. If I had my way, slides on new gens would have a universal optics cut that would accept a wider range of dot, not just RMR. Eliminate the polymer trigger shoe, widen that safe action button. I believe it would be more durable. Lastly, no more polymer sights, or guide rods. Steel please.
Jody Felland how does an ambi slide release double your chance to ride it? If youre shooting right handed, how in the hell do you ride the release on the right side?
Is the Gen 3, more reliable or more superior? My ONLY concern with the Gen 3 is the grip and lack of texture that the Gen 4s have. I refuse to use talon grips. It really depends on how you grip the gun. I have occasionally put upward pressure on extended slide lock, causing the gun to lock open. I no longer use that part to prevent it.
5:48... When those sights are off it sure is noticeable. I don't know anybody that leaves these plastic sights on. Everybody seems to change these first.
I measured barrel walls and it’s definitely thicker on gen 5 than gen 4. I assume it’s should hold higher pressures and hotter rounds and less prone to kabooms.
Yes, the GEN5 uses the same holster as the Gen5... lol, I think you may have meant to specify a different Gen glock, and unless you update that we can not answer your question.
Superbly explained comparisons between all the glock generations I love glocks, sometimes I wish I lived in America reminds me of the good old days when handguns were legal here in uk had to hand all my guns in gutted still am🤢
You know how to get a lighter trigger pull?......How about going out and firing hundreds upon hundreds of rounds through it? I guarantee the stock trigger on my gen 4 is smoother than the 5 right out of the box, just from shooting it.
I shot today with a G17 Gen 5 and a G19 Gen 3, disregarding the length of the stock, I felt that the grip of the Gen 5 is a little smaller than the Gen 3, is that correct?
Can you put the Gen 4 spring in the Gen 3? At the 10 minute mark you said that you can put the Gen 5 spring in the Gen 4 but can you also switch it out with the Gen 3?

I own a glock 19 ..gen 3 ..gen4 and now gen5...and THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN the GEN 5 TRIGGER..its better..smoother...have currently put 400 rounds through my gen 5...after I get to 500 rounds without any issues will make it my EDC
Thanks for your input! Just feeling the trigger out of the box, I could not notice any obvious difference. Then again, I have only had this one Glock 19 in my hands... Also, I have not fired it, so with a few 100 rounds down range, the trigger may loosen and may ease into a cleaner break. I will reevaluate the trigger when I get some time behind it at the range. Thanks again for commenting!
Nice demo. I’m all In for my new Gen 5. I got plus 2 mags which functions best for my hand size. The slide finish and no finger groove plus other updates are worthwhile improvements over my gen 4, in my opinion. Glockenspiel y all.
I have a full size Gen 3 ( as all my glocks are ) Mod 37 45-GAP, it has an odd finish, darker then all of my other gen 3's, also has that rounder nose that you usually see in the smaller glocks
If it was perfect we would all have gen 1s. Gen 3 is as close as they could get.....but they refused to remove the finger groves. How difficult could it be to make a removable front strap with finger groves?..... Thats right the thing is perfect; that is why we upgrade the trigger, change the sights, shave off the finger grooves, sand down the back strap, cut slide serration in the slide....did I forget anything? Oh extended slide locks, re stippled grips and shave memory indexes(gas pedals) into the polymer......PS. dont forget your but plug on the way out. LMAO perfect. Its a good gun true, but if it needs that much upgrading then it aint perfect. If she needs that much plastic surgery to be attractive.....Just get a blow up doll. Definition of perfect 1 a :being entirely without fault or defect :flawless a perfect diamond b :satisfying all requirements
Dude its really not that deep! "Perfection" is an opinion. I was simply voicing an opinion, playing on their motto "glock perfection"! Opinions are like ass-holes, everyone has one!
Perfection is a state of being....its perfect...not an opinion. An opinion is "I think it is perfect". All and all I know its marketing deigned to create hype and brand loyalty. My opinion is it is the perfect canvas. You know; kind of like the canvas the Mona lisa was painted on. It wouldn't be shit with out the paint....kinda like Glocks and upgrades. LMAO 2ez; Im just trolling Glock fanboys right now, but I think I forgot 80% poly lowers with the 1911 grip angle and under cut trigger guards for the "perfect" gun to be perfect-er. If there is a state of more perfecter. Personally I get Glock knuckle from shooting the perfect guns. I know knuckles are for pussies but still I get it.
You have way to much time on your hands. I simply don't care what you think of my comment. I have been carrying Glocks for 20 years both for personal protection, and occupationally. 90% of Indiana's law enforcement carry them, if its good enough for them its good enough for me.
And I've been carrying a 1911 since 1912....if it was good enough for the great wars by gosh its good enough for me. Glock fanboys are too easy to troll. You do know I stopped trying after my first post. And obviously you have the same amount of free time as I. Calm down you are #triggered. Carry your glock bro...its a good gun....just aint perfect.
Nice vid, well done. One correction though. Use of lead bullets does not decrease barrel life, it increases it......If you don't mind cleaning out the lead build up on the new rifling style. You should be cleaning your firearms after every use anyway.
Mark Homiak I remember clearing my throat in disagreement at my armorers class. The notion that the polygonal rifling is supurbly accurate is a stretch for sure. Its easy to clean, cheaper, and faster to produce. And plenty accurate for service standards. I got the side eye from our instructor. He fucked with me in class. I got the last laugh at the shot show that year when he remembered me. I set him straight. I think he misspelled my name on my certificate to spite me.
I wouldn't exactly call your site "cheap guns" more like "Fair Priced"......Ill keep you guys in mind for when I do my shopping. Any ETA on the M*P 2.0 9compact?
I'm currenty in the market for a G19. Thanks for this info. I tried a gen 4 and so, since I do not like the stippling on the gen 4 and 5, I'm going to need to find a gen 3. Are there any other options, since I don't like the needle feel of the gen 4/5? Thanks.

@@jaytay7989 I do like the Hogue grips. I wound up buying a used G22 that I like. The glock grip is just on the edge of being too big/brick feeling for me, but the gun is solid. Shoots well. Almost as tight a group as my p320. I don't know about reliability or superior of the g19 or g22. I just know, for me, the gen 4/5 grips are like trying to grip a porcupine. I do really well with the gen 3 grips. If I could find an aftermarket grip for my g22 that was slightly smaller in the grip, I'd be one happy customer! Thanks!
The first Glock 26s had a single guide rod = Gen 2.5, Also the 2nd locking block pin was for 40 S&W/357 SIG, So far the 5th gens are 9mm only = G17/G19,Finger grooves suck.. The larger magazine release is also fugly.. waiting for the Gen6
Thanks for the video, I was looking for this. Also is the mag release the same size between the gen 4 and 5? The two pin system was originally meant for 9mm. They shifted to a three pin system to better handle the stress of .40 and .45. The M series FBI pistols which were the precursor to the gen 5 were built for solely for 9mm. The 19 MHS submission was for 9mm and .40 and they only used a two pin system so maybe they felt it wasn't necessary on their newer designs. As we all know everything we read on the internet is always true.
Ok so heres what Ive determined about who favors what generation of glock...if your from Commifornia, Gen 3 is the absolute best, If you like finger grooves, Iron sights, and crappy triggers but have mostly compatible parts with older generations, your a Gen 4 guy....If you Like Optic ready, DLC coated, front slide serrations and beveled slide for reholstering, with some new and improved parts and a pretty decent factory trigger your a Gen 5 advocate. Me personally? Im a generation 43x/ 48x MOS guy.... all other glocks are obsolete.....
Great video kris, answered a lot of questions but I do have one question I'm unsure of, maybe you or some viewers can also help. I have an opportunity to get a GEN 3 In excellent condition almost looks new. My question is should I hold out for a GEN 4 or a GEN 5?

Is the Gen 3, more reliable or more superior? My ONLY concern with the Gen 3 is the grip and lack of texture that the Gen 4s have. I refuse to use talon grips. I’ll have to use as is or with a Hogue grip. I’m not worried about a dual recoil spring for a 9mm. I’ve never heard of ejection issues with a Gen 3.
I own a Gen4 22, it's a great gun. Love Glocks...
You have to have gorilla fingers to have an issue with GEN 3 finger grooves. I myself like them for grip.
I have medium size hands and I don't particularly like the grooves.
The grooves suck . glad I ditched the gen 3 for gen 5..but glad your happy with it !!
@@echo2-128 Not for me. The grooves fit my hand perfect. Regardless, with grooves you have a better grip on the pistol. The reason for the grooves in the first place.
Gen 5 when back to a gen 2 grip....using the gen 3 trigger and a gen 4 recoil spring....gen 3 is king of glocks....

Glock 3 groves feel so grippy in my hands back kinda hippy but I’ll take it for front grip recoil I’m thinking for wide back
The aggressive texturing the on gen 4s killed glocks for me. They need to offer a smoother frame option like the gen 2. I’m happy with my gen 3.
Why do you want a slippery grip? I only have a Gen 3 but it is too slippery for me.
I don't like how the gen 3 grip looks. I prefer the grip of the gen 4/5's

Thank you for a very clear and informative presentation ! Just subscribed
being in MA we can only buy used Gen2 Glocks from dealers... although there are ways around that now...
decided it's time to retire my 32 year old Gen2, and trying to decide on the 3, 4, or 5
i like the 2 pin frame, but i also like the finger grooves...... dammit....
i mean, the Gen2 G19 is the best Glock ever made, but it's older than the last woman i dated....
I have G19s in Gen2, Gen3-RTF2, & Gen5-MOS w/RMR. Great guns. Very informative video. Thank you
Why does your Gen 5 not have the serrations on the front of the barrel? I’ve never seen it without those in stores???
They guy at my gun shop said glocks are the AK of the hand gun world
I’m looking at my first Glock ever! 19 gen 4.
But damn it they have a S&W 39-2 my favorite auto gun so I but it on layaway I probably don’t need 3 of them but damn it I love that gun.
I’m just enjoying the all the great options we still have and hopefully will always have!
Great video sir
..btw ...before I was educated with the differences in the Gens ...I simply asked the guy working the counter , who btw is the best salesman I've encountered... knowledgeable , no salesman babble or high pressure talk ....handed me the Gen 3 .... cheers
The follower doesn't really help as the brass shows through the witness holes on the mag anyway
they dont always line up. so at quick glance the orange is easier to know for sure.
Excellent video my friend. Very informative. I appreciate the quality of the video and the content! Bravo!
The squareness of the older glocks is a lot more appealing. The less wide 5th gen isn't as good looking.
I agree; the Gen 1-3 are the ones that put Glock on the map...
I ended up getting a g19 gen 4 about a week before the gen 5 was announced.
Someone make me feel better about how the gen 5 is just a gen 4 without finger grooves. I’d hate to hear that some huge amazing improvement developed a week after i bought the “defunct” version lol.
the gen 4 is my favourite
Just bought a gen5 g19 brand new with the glow in the dark factory night sights. I know nothing about it but im glad I got the newest gen!
Thanks for this great comparison!!
Good video
I'm actually moving over to glock 19 and 17 to train with and calling it done was looking at the gen3 and gen4 can't decide I don't care about extra features I just want the best one what would you recommend and why gen 3 or gen 4 in the 19 and 17
Thanks

Great video, thank you for sharing...stay smooth
Gen 3 is my preference the grip and the aiming pointe is excellent
Great job . Well done . Keeps up the good work . Thanks a lot. SC vet.
My local firearm dealer told me that the Gen 3’s typically sell more than the Gen 5’s.
I'm going to wait for the Gen 7.
One more comment... the gen3 magazine release was very positive and easy to use. In Gen4, they make a big paddle of a release button. If you do not hit that button in the right place it does not work... so effectively it is much worse than the smaller gen3 button.
Great video. Thanks for comparison.
jsimpson4 Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
Gen 3 Glock 19 is the best looking one for me
I found in my rental range day, that in 9mm I found no feeling of more recoil with the gen 4 or 5.
I own three Gen 3s, and have never felt the need to get anything later.
I’ll have to use as is or with a Hogue grip. I’m not worried about a dual recoil spring for a 9mm. I’ve never heard of ejection issues with a Gen 3.
It really depends on how you grip the gun. I have occasionally put upward pressure on extended slide lock, causing the gun to lock open. I no longer use that part to prevent it.
@@jaytay7989 gen5 are still good. Just not an improvement as such. Your mileage may vary.
5:48... When those sights are off it sure is noticeable. I don't know anybody that leaves these plastic sights on. Everybody seems to change these first.
Didn't mention the round cut out in the bottom of the grip below your pinky finger in the front section of a Magwell. What's that about.
Just bought my new Gen 3 for 700 here in California. Can't wait to get it
SAME😎
You got ripped
Damn that's stout. Get the f out of commie area. I'm laughing at all you commifornians
I measured barrel walls and it’s definitely thicker on gen 5 than gen 4. I assume it’s should hold higher pressures and hotter rounds and less prone to kabooms.
I have a G17 gen 1 that I've had for 25 years. I LOVE the thing. I saw no reason to buy any other.
If you really have a gen 1 Glock, you can sell it and buy like 20 new glocks
This Week I Go to buy 2 gun,the Glock 19 gen 4 and the Sig Sauer p365 9mm color gray and like coyote color,I can't wait for it!
DLC is in fact an ion bond. I use to a company that does this type of coating.
Looking into buying my first gun.. this was a great video, thank you.. definitely had to subscribe
Thanks for watching and subbing. I am glad this video helped you out!
Best GLOCK gens 1.2.3! Best Glock ever glock 22 gen 3 hands down!
I like how you named the 22 when its a Lil son compared to the 10mm
Thank you for the video quick question does the GEN5 use the same holster as the Gen5?
Yes, the GEN5 uses the same holster as the Gen5... lol, I think you may have meant to specify a different Gen glock, and unless you update that we can not answer your question.
I have no idea what Gen my Glock 36 is but I love it
My next Glock will be a 26
Superbly explained comparisons between all the glock generations I love glocks, sometimes I wish I lived in America reminds me of the good old days when handguns were legal here in uk had to hand all my guns in gutted still am🤢
TheYjmfan dang man that sucks, what year did they outlaw handguns in the uk?
Lol we started a revolutionary war last time they tried to disarm us lol you guys should have never let go of your rights to own guns at all
You know how to get a lighter trigger pull?......How about going out and firing hundreds upon hundreds of rounds through it? I guarantee the stock trigger on my gen 4 is smoother than the 5 right out of the box, just from shooting it.
We aren’t allowed to have Gen 4 and Gen 5 here in California so the only Glock that I am familiar with is the GEN 3. I love my Gen 3 G19.
I thought California was America….?
HEHEHEHEHEHEHE 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲. OLE COMMIEFORNIA
Great vid btw!
Hey thanks! Thanks for watching!
Wonder if the grip shape and grip angle is the same between the Glock 9 gen 3, Glock gen 4, and gan 5?
I shot today with a G17 Gen 5 and a G19 Gen 3, disregarding the length of the stock, I felt that the grip of the Gen 5 is a little smaller than the Gen 3, is that correct?
Can you put the Gen 4 spring in the Gen 3? At the 10 minute mark you said that you can put the Gen 5 spring in the Gen 4 but can you also switch it out with the Gen 3?
In the market for my first Firearm looking at a Gen 3 G19
Get it!!!!!!
Johansen Yoyanovich I just bought 2.... in California........

Did you say mags are compatible across the models, or no?
pistonar yes glock mags work as long as you dont try a smaller mag then pistol is designed for. So bigger is okay for all
I still roll with the gen3
MarksmanTV new trigger lighter but squishy and no wall.
Why no drastic change between the generations? It is simply not possible to improve on perfection!
Definition of perfect
1 a :being entirely without fault or defect :flawless a perfect diamond
b :satisfying all requirements
Excelent video, thanks
Man, Glock really has consumers snowballed. A hexagon IS a polygon! 😂🤣
They should say lands and grooves
I wouldn't exactly call your site "cheap guns" more like "Fair Priced"......Ill keep you guys in mind for when I do my shopping. Any ETA on the M*P 2.0 9compact?
I would love a gen 4 lower and a gen 5 slide and I would be stoked
I'm currenty in the market for a G19. Thanks for this info. I tried a gen 4 and so, since I do not like the stippling on the gen 4 and 5, I'm going to need to find a gen 3. Are there any other options, since I don't like the needle feel of the gen 4/5? Thanks.
Wow, opposite of my concern.
Thanks!
For Gen 6 we’re gonna need Gen 4 features plus the angled front slide and ambi slide release of the Gen 5
Smiley Sixguns I
Great video easy to watch
I hear the new Gen 6 will come with a virus protection mask in the grip
My glock 19 gen 5 came with front and rear slide serrations and ameriglo agen night sights.
Quick question. Is Glock 19 Gen 5 and Glock 19 Gen 4 are interchangeable?
Yes they are
The first Glock 26s had a single guide rod = Gen 2.5, Also the 2nd locking block pin was for 40 S&W/357 SIG, So far the 5th gens are 9mm only = G17/G19,Finger grooves suck.. The larger magazine release is also fugly.. waiting for the Gen6
Ridiculous thought process
Are the gen 4 & 5 back straps identical?
Two-thirds of your comment is correct but I'm a 26 and a 19 person myself. Comment was spot on tho lol
Gen 3 for my money ....as I own one .
Great video kris, answered a lot of questions but I do have one question I'm unsure of, maybe you or some viewers can also help. I have an opportunity to get a GEN 3 In excellent condition almost looks new. My question is should I hold out for a GEN 4 or a GEN 5?
Get the Gen 3. It's better and saves you money.
John Sparks , why is a Gen 3 better? Is the Gen 3, more reliable or more superior? My ONLY concern with the Gen 3 is the grip and lack of texture that the Gen 4s have. I refuse to use talon grips. Are the magazines interchangeable between Gen 3 and 5, for example? Sounds like it.
Ionbond is a brand, dlc is diamond like coating. As far as i understand. What the N stands for idk yet
Are the dual guide rods steel? I know the older single were plastic. I broke one
No still polymer
I live in Indiana whats the price for a gen 5
The gen5 got rid of the ploygolic rifing
