I'm sure someone else mentioned it, but you don't have as many crashes on Premiere because you're on Mac. On Windows it's an absolute crashfest, it's so unstable. Adobe puts very little effort into it's Windows userbase vs Mac userbase. I've been using Premiere off and on for 20 years, and they still haven't managed to fix it.
Can't believe I am seeing a fellow Summoners War player on here ;). And I agree with the crashes on Windows. But as I just switched from Vegas Pro to Premiere Pro I must say it's already a relief in that aspect.
I use it on Windows with i7 series 10 and GTX 1060. Crashes are infrequent for me. Though they were VERY frequent on my old i5 series 6. Still, I wish the rendering time would be a lot faster with my hardware. I'm definitely gonna give Resolve a try.
Interestingly, while my anecdotal experience does not a trend make, my experience has been the complete opposite. I have gone back and forth for various reasons over the years, and experienced far fewer Premiere crashes on my PCs.
Yup, dynamic link should actually be minus for Adobe since you dont need it in Davinci. Fusion(after effects equivalent) and Fairlight(Audition) and render page(which is similar to Media Encoder) are all built into one single program. No dynamic link needed and less change for crashes(which has been more regular ever since Dynamic link was integrated to Adobe software)
4:28 If you want to do the same thing in Resolve you can. Under Effects - Generators there's a solid color fill and you can set it to black and lower the opacity if you're used to that. OR a much simpler option is just lower the opacity of the video clip from the Inspector menu
i already 6 year with premiere n now almost 1 year with davinci. I can say Davinci more powerfull in all aspect and i also using davinci for may DIT job for metadata, 1light color and transcode.
Having used Resolve for basically over 2 years, that ease of use thing tripped me. The text and darkening can be done in the edit page itself EXACTLY the same way it's done in Premiere...
I hated color grading in premiere, so I did that in resolve for years. But I got tired of the workflow with two programs, also premiere crashed on me on regular bases. I switched to resolve completly this year and never looked back. :)
@@mechamicro It's mind boggling that a company, such as Adobe who is gigantic, have an unstable program like they have right now. Pr and Ps keep crashing on me, for whatever reason. Tried everything, contacted 10+ years Adobe users and nobody seems to have "the magic solution" + they also have these crash problems. That questions me, why am I not switching? Adobe is the worst.
@@irelax8595 it's because they're industry standard with practically everything, they know they can get away with stuff like that because they are. i actually don't do stuff with video/film, honestly have just been looking around for something that i can just use, found this, wanted to see how it'd compare with what i've used previously! but i DO actually have plenty experience with photoshop, due to the fact i'm a digital artist. i got frustrated with payments to a program that was generally not great to use. i ended up making the switch to another program, clip studio paint, and i have never regretted that switch. i think the same can be said for other adobe products.
I've been editing in premiere about 15 years. Tried resolve for a week, goodbye Adobe. Fusion is just amazing, and the node methodology is so easy to learn, tons of info around the web
Not only around the web, Resolve has its own help documentation and is absolutely amazing. And their official YT channel has a lot of helpful videos too.
Davince is cool, but how to enter in a selection (i & o) press ctrl + / to go to the selection, and pause in the selection? if you pause you'll return to the point far away from the selection, it's possible to to that? it's so simple in premiere... In premiere is so easy to do that.
They obviously gave Premier Pro a point with that dynamic link. Even he said, "It's cheating in this comparison" because with Davinci Resolve its automatically seamless. No need to spend more money on a 3rd party program. Resolve should've won this flat out 👍🏽
4:12 . If anyone wanna do this on edit page at Resolve, 1. Go to Effects library and choose solid color and pick black color and place it on top of your clip. 2. Click on the solid color, Go to the effects control in inspector 3. Under the blend mode slider, move the slider to left to reduce opacity. Same as Premiere. No worries Landon, we know there are many ways to do the same thing.
The biggest thing I like about Premiere is that I can customize my workspace. Resolve is so limited in the workspace customization. And for me Premiere never crashes, but when using Resolve it is slow and crashes. It's just so weird how I seem to have had the opposite experience from everyone.
Your GPU is weak and your CPU is strong. Everyone with these specs will have a better performance on premiere than resolve. The studio version though for da Vinci you can tweak the GPU and CPU usage and fix that problem. Premiere is more CPU dependent and resolve is more GPU dependent.
Davince is cool, but how to enter in a selection (i & o) press ctrl + / to go to the selection, and pause in the selection? if you pause you'll return to the point far away from the selection, it's possible to to that? it's so simple in premiere... In premiere is so easy to do that.
I have considered switching to Resolve numerous times, but the problem is I can't bring myself to give up all the other Adobe apps that work so well with Premiere such as After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
im a newbie to this all and ive been on the fence about which program to start learning on. i know adobe is the biggest but i hear davinci is making a big splashes lately
You can do the text layer the same way. You don't have to over complicate it. Just bring a generator, reduce opacity in the inspector and add your text.
That example at around 5:00 can be done the exact same way in davinci as in premiere.... no nodes are needed for that and im really unsure of why he uses them there...
Resolve is hard to understand at first when you came from Premiere but after a week or two you can’t go back to premiere ... almost no crash, better performance, better color, everything. The studio version is even faster
In 2019, After 8 years using Vegas Pro I challenged myself to switch to DaVinci Resolve and edit an aftermovie in less than a week for a DJ I've worked with. The pressure of making a good video as fast as possible made me adapt to DaVinci in 3 days only :D
Honestly the point to adobe for the dynamic link with after effects is sooo unjustified. Why would you wanna switch programs? In davinci you have a full blown counterpart to after effects with fusion. I think u may not know that because otherwise I don’t know why you wouldn’t mention it. Thats just facts the workflow with premiere and dynamic link (which is often broken btw) is sooo much more time intensive compared to just clicking the fusion tap in davinci.
I made the switch a couple of years back, having used Resolve for colour grading for years before alongside Premier, but Adobe just became to slow and expensive really. So I saw Resolve 12.5 when it brought in a reasonable simplistic editing side, until now with 17, which has quickly become an insanely powerful suite of tools. There are a number of things I looked at it this video that ear marked it as being made by someone who has only just scratched the surface, which is cool but some points are very misleading. Also, if you are hung up about plugins, Resolve actually has it already built in or see's a number of them being incorporated with each new release (many times in a year). For instance a while back, I paid £150 for Colour plugin, which has now been added for free (Colour Warper). The two plugins you mention specifically are actual features built into Resolve as standard. And then there is Fairlight Studio, which didn't get a mention, only one of the most powerful audio tools for production you can get and its free.. Anyway, thanks for the video :-)
8:53 How does premiere get a point for having to switch to an entirely different program when you can just change tabs in Davinci. Also, If you want to you stand alone fusion you can send the footage via VFX Connect which is better than dynamic link because it has version control built in.
I think it's because after effects is better for compositing multiple shots, animation, motion graphics and can integrate with cinema 4D. But it depends on your usage
Maybe they had to do it due to their cooperation with Adobe but also wanted to reach new user base of Davinci. I don't like the subscription model that is why I picked FCPX.
I stopped watching the video when he gave a point to Premiere for Dynamic Link to AE without mentioning the Fusion tab on Resolve! At least compare the two... weird.
I guess they only viewed it from the perspective of a long time Adobe user. And for someone who doesn't know Resolve very good (he gives some points to Adobe just for "being used to it"), this draw should draw (pun intended) ones attention - to Resolve :)
That just doesn't sound very promissing for their new resolve course. Basic stuff missing and a not so fair comparison. Fingers crossed anyway as they do a great job.
As a long time DaVinci user, I'm gonna have to nab a point away from Premiere. 4:05, you can still perform the exact same layering as in Premiere. Place your clip on the bottom layer, on top of that place a "Solid Color", open Inspector, lower the opacity, then place your text on top. No need to go into Fusion. But the great thing about DaVinci is that it gives you various methods to achieve their desired result. Depending on your preferred work flow, you can get results in either the Edit, Color or Fusion tab.
I am just starting to learn it but did figure it out the same - that you can do the same things using different ways. Meaning the programming/coding was good. After all we all do things slightly different and ... the Manual is 4,036 pages long.
Eh, I like the video overall. Love the channel. But disagree on the VFX portion. Dynamic linking to AE is the same as going into the Fusion tab of Resolve. Any changes there get reflected on the edit page. No need for additional program
That dynamic link win for Premiere Pro in the VFX section is unwarranted. Changes made in the Fusion page are reflected across the whole timeline in Resolve. Within the same program.
Actually I would give the VFX point to DaVinci because I don't have to switch programs but can do all in the same program and don't have to purchase two times. Having (the possibility) to switch is a disadvantage for me... Then DaVinci would win 5:3 :D
@@joshdiditt Premiere is more than sufficient if you want to make less complex videos or you have a great creativity and cpu. It's good to switch if you are a fulltime video editor and interested in doing complex (or easy) node based compositing.
As someone working for a advertisement film studio, let me tell you why using premiere is still the standard and inevitable: It’s codec support. No matter which codecs u throw at it (just had the new Sony a7siii files and pana s1h clips), it’ll work just fine. Vfx presets practically don’t exist in resolve, and I don’t have the time to animate everything myself. The dynamic link feature in premiere with After effects gives you access to leading vfx tools, 3D tracking and high end compositing. If there’s anything that can’t be done in After effects, it will probably not be me editing the clip, but rather a 3D compositing artist in our studio that uses Houdini etc.. Oh, and I almost forgot, there’s no ProResRaw support in resolve, because they wanna push their own codec (BlackmagicRaw)
Being a editor of both, I was aware you where going to give this a draw! Hell no, DaVinci takes the cake and eats it! It's true the learning curve is a bit cumbersome but once you get used to it, it's worth it in every way. Besides, with the txt editing layer you talk about, it's been introduced in Resolve 17 and prior to that I had extentions for that. I must admit there are some things I prefer in to have but, it's a matter of time.
I would actually argue that the learning curve is only cumbersome because AP was there before and most people (at least I did) have to unlearn AP to understand DVR.
@@Dylestocolors that's technically correct. But the bulk of the pipeline of DVR is probably very different from what it is today. I doubt someone from the 80s or 90s would seamlessly transition to today's workflow. Is that what you meant?
One thing worth mentioning is that when you start using Resolve, everything you know about file management goes out the window. I'm still not 100% sure where exactly everything is being saved. You need to do most things like saving and backups from within the program; moving and renaming files in Explorer will get you in big trouble. Forget about keeping an entire project under a single root folder. That said, after a few days working with Resolve, I'll probably be making the switch for good.
Do it. It's incredibly intuitive and its sections helps you understand how close you are from finishing your work. Also, there are some tutoriais at their website which help you understand their tools better
Bro, Davinci can also synchronize and zoom without a plug-in... resolve makes my editing easy... Once know how to use it... It will save u more time...
I switched to Resolve. After Effects held me back for a long time. But Fusion was not that hard to learn. Also, my rtx 3060 ti is super fast and it's a powerful tool for Resolve. Just switched didn't look back and never regretted. P.s the updates are coming like crazy for Resolve. Now it's just a matter of time it beats both premiere and FCP conbined.
Well 3060 Ti is relatively fast at this moment in time but as the competition's getting more fierce the generational performance increase will accelerate. Plus, 8 gigs of VRAM will make the card quickly obsolete in some terms but somehow it's the only card I could buy so even though I won't recommend it I had bought it too ;]
@@koraptd6085 8GBs is plenty! Even 6k fusion renders are fine on my end. I have RTX2060 in my rig at home and 2080ti in my rig at work and VRAM on the 2060 is tight but it always gets the job done!
It can never beat FCP! For someone who used all 3, I can indubitably say that FCPX is the best when it comes to quick, fast, and efficient edits along with its vast plug-ins
You can still do layers in Resolve just like premiere. Under effects there are generators which you can use as a color layer and then just add a text layer above that.
I Never used any computer video editing software I do video editing in Mobile But now I'm going to do this as a profession I'm really confused about the softwares Should I use premier pro or davinci or any other software I just bought a new laptop which have 8gb ram I'm using the 7 trail version of premier pro I watched so many videos that premier is slow and it crashes alot What should I do
for the people who still have not understood: Permiere Pro is only an editing program. If you want effects, animation, etc. then you can do that with After Effects. If you want to professionally edit your audio from Premiere Pro, then you can use Audition for that. If you want to incorporate vector graphics into your video, you can use Illustrator. And then you can export your video using Media Encorder where you can set everything up when it comes to exporting, with built-in upscaler and framerate adder etc. And yes, DaVinci has won as far as color grading is concerned.
NLE family reunion: Premiere is the hotshot sibling that thinks they're so cool even though people mostly just put up with them rather than like them Resolve is the cousin that is actually doing pretty well for themselves but is pretty low key and doesn't like to talk very much Final cut tries to tell people about how much they've improved from "That one time" but still won't work with half the family Avid is the grumpy old man complaining about "Kids these days" Vegas is...still there?
Velocity in vegas is still much better than speed ramping in premiere. Also the performance in terms of just cutting is much faster. I wish you could do better color correction and things like roto brush... also the pre installed effects in vegas suck
@@Visuallyben More like "that uncle that started rehab in the 90s". no one talks about him, it's uncomfortable, so no one realised he died 15 years ago.
On the simple text on ease of use, you can also do that layering on davinci without goin to the fusion page. It's super easy, just go into effects and type in solid color, drop the opacity in the inspector, then put text over it. It's the same process as premier
For that text portion around 5:00 you can do it exactly like Premier. Use a solid color black Then a text + And it's exactly the same. Without having to go to fusion. You o ly really need to go to fusion when doing advanced text/transitions/3d text/effects etc
I used both but have to say that Davinci is miles ahead. Such much better interface, Color grading and tracking objects is insane! And I had almost no performance issues, while crashing Premiere Pro at least once was a normal thing on a weekly workflow.
I've made the switch to DaVinci and other than the poor titling (can't change text style, font, colour or size with a simple click and drag) and scroll controls, I love it. Learning fusion is difficult but they are adding more and more of its functions in the editing and colour pages, reducing the frequent requirement for fusion. Bought the pro version just to help support Black Magic. Favourite thing: no requirement to go onto the internet and expose myself to the lack of security and privacy . Add to that the fact that I can buy the program, not rent it.
I switched to Davinci 6 months ago and it rocks !!! No more premiere with crashes, bad colorimetri and allll this additionnals pluggins. I save a lot of money for my video stuff, time and quality !
Problem with Adobe PP is that I earn Malaysian money, but is expected to pay American money. RM20 a month is fine for my 4 editors, but RM100 is a little too much. I wish they had a more robust geopricing setups like Steam. They could easily do it but they refuse to, so we are forced to go DaVinci and probably won't be going back. Id like my editors to focus on one program, as I see it, PP can only get more and more expensive going forward, so why should I support this business practice?
Something I've learned from starting to learn Resolve and being heavy in premiere is that this is very subjective. I cant even fault you for that, I hated resolve for months till Premiere betrayed me multiple times.
I gave up on Premiere and switched to DaVinci Resolve back in v14 days and have been happy ever since. I agree that there aren't as many resources for Resolve but, that has forced me to get better with Resolve. My goal for 2021 is to immerse myself in learning Fusion inside and out.
tbh I feel that Resolve is just the better option out there Sure for a lot of people node based editing may seem a bit complicated, but once you get a basic idea of it then it is actually quite simple! And Resolve, at times can be a lot easier for your system to handle when you are using resolve, suppose you need to use the same clip in the same timeline in fusion you can just connect the nodes and the media will be shared, whereas in AE you will have to bring in another clip, because of its layer based interface Trust me, the free version of DaVinci Resolve is more than enough And the DaVinci community is only going to get bigger and bigger, so I assume sooner or later half of the points that premiere has got in this vid for popularity and plugins will no more be relevant DaVinci Resolve Beta is the way to go!
is the dynamic link point a joke? you have a better version of AE inside the programm and if you want there is a link feature to standalone fusion. you have the complete Creative Cloude in one program no need for dynamic link
I use premiere for editing and davinci for color correction. I just hate lumetri with a burning passion. You can't look at lumetri the same after you use davinci resolve's color tools. Especially the fact that its 2020 and adobe still hasn't given a basic eye dropper for the rgb curves 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah I cant stand that scrubbing through footage thats pretty long makes the entire program slow down. Not only that but you scrub to one spot to make a cut or find where to and it has to load for a minute or two. Premiere is still gonna take the cake for me at least.

The only 2 points I would have given to Premiere is the fact that there are definitely more plugins availlable for it and the fact that it can integrates with graphic design via Photoshop and Illustrator (strange that he didn't mention that element, wish BlackMagic would buy Affinity!!!). For me, all the other points were a lack of completely understanding Resolve. Especially the exemple of stacking the layers...
I am new to video editing, the main reason I choose Davinci Resolve is because it is free, come with all film industry graded elements in the software that rivals the Premiere Pro. I do not mind paying for the studio version since it is only a one time payment, for my appreciation to blackmagic Design's constant great work.

Interestingly, while my anecdotal experience does not a trend make, my experience has been the complete opposite. I have gone back and forth for various reasons over the years, and experienced far fewer Premiere crashes on my PCs.
I agree. You have to save every little thing you do because Adobe crashes almost every second
The Dynamic link argument is weak, the Fusion page is one click away from the Edit Page
Yup, dynamic link should actually be minus for Adobe since you dont need it in Davinci.
Fusion(after effects equivalent) and Fairlight(Audition) and render page(which is similar to Media Encoder) are all built into one single program. No dynamic link needed and less change for crashes(which has been more regular ever since Dynamic link was integrated to Adobe software)
and another point is that davinci has fusion. another program as well as after effects
@@Siimkristjanpariis Agreed. Doesn't make sense when all are literally 1 click over.
Yap, fusion and Fairlight, jst a click!
Exactly, also your timeline and all of your edits are right there without ever leaving Da’Vinci. If there wasn’t such a bias this wouldn’t be close.

Switched to Resolve over a year ago after using Premiere Pro for about 4 years, and don't miss it at all.
They obviously gave Premier Pro a point with that dynamic link. Even he said, "It's cheating in this comparison" because with Davinci Resolve its automatically seamless. No need to spend more money on a 3rd party program. Resolve should've won this flat out 👍🏽
4:12 . If anyone wanna do this on edit page at Resolve,
1. Go to Effects library and choose solid color and pick black color and place it on top of your clip.
2. Click on the solid color, Go to the effects control in inspector

Your GPU is weak and your CPU is strong. Everyone with these specs will have a better performance on premiere than resolve. The studio version though for da Vinci you can tweak the GPU and CPU usage and fix that problem.
Premiere is more CPU dependent and resolve is more GPU dependent.

You can do the text layer the same way. You don't have to over complicate it. Just bring a generator, reduce opacity in the inspector and add your text.
That example at around 5:00 can be done the exact same way in davinci as in premiere.... no nodes are needed for that and im really unsure of why he uses them there...

It seems to me like your scoring is almost based on you being comfortable with premiere
that is sadly true, if resolve was more widely used it would definitely not just rival Premiere but also beat it
Honestly the point to adobe for the dynamic link with after effects is sooo unjustified.
This is what i tell everyone you can do effects while still editing
I agree. The dynamic link with Audition, on the other hand...
Anyway, thanks for the video :-)
wow, this was useful!!!! thanks a lot
8:53 How does premiere get a point for having to switch to an entirely different program when you can just change tabs in Davinci. Also, If you want to you stand alone fusion you can send the footage via VFX Connect which is better than dynamic link because it has version control built in.
I know right lol...
That was totally unfair!
Because basic effects in Ae are pretty easy to make, while Fusion will make you lose your hair (in my opinion)
@@AmjadAbboud You could say that about any software you don't know how to use.
I think it's because after effects is better for compositing multiple shots, animation, motion graphics and can integrate with cinema 4D. But it depends on your usage

I agree
Maybe they had to do it due to their cooperation with Adobe but also wanted to reach new user base of Davinci. I don't like the subscription model that is why I picked FCPX.
They're partners with Adobe what do you expect lol 😂
I stopped watching the video when he gave a point to Premiere for Dynamic Link to AE without mentioning the Fusion tab on Resolve! At least compare the two... weird.
I guess they only viewed it from the perspective of a long time Adobe user. And for someone who doesn't know Resolve very good (he gives some points to Adobe just for "being used to it"), this draw should draw (pun intended) ones attention - to Resolve :)
14;50 Actually, Resolve essentially has the equivalent of "Drag Zoom Pro" built-in as Dynamic Zoom.
Exactly I think he left out some key points on Resolve. Once I made that switch to Resolve 2 years ago I never looked back.
Yes and it also has built-in syncing capabilities in the cut page
@@karimkhakimov7903 yes and also in the Edit and Media pages. It's probably not quite as good as Plural Eyes but you can use Plural Eyes with Resolve.
I started to learn video editing in February in davinci and never have looked elsewhere
Switched to Resolve a couple months ago. Can’t go back.
That dynamic link win for Premiere Pro in the VFX section is unwarranted. Changes made in the Fusion page are reflected across the whole timeline in Resolve. Within the same program.
Last time I was this early Davinci resolve wasn't a thing.
Actually I would give the VFX point to DaVinci because I don't have to switch programs but can do all in the same program and don't have to purchase two times. Having (the possibility) to switch is a disadvantage for me... Then DaVinci would win 5:3 :D
This drag-zoom and synchronising plugins are kind of already integrated in Resolve😂👍

Dynamic link? You can do everything inside Resolve you don't need to switch programs!
5:01 you could have dropped a solid colour element and text element to the timeline just like in Premiere Pro

@@alexandrepigeot That's not very true, DVR dates back to the 80's and eon fusion to the 90's

Since I'm a blender user, node base editing is perfect for me
Something I've learned from starting to learn Resolve and being heavy in premiere is that this is very subjective.
My goal for 2021 is to immerse myself in learning Fusion inside and out.
tbh I feel that Resolve is just the better option out there
Sure for a lot of people node based editing may seem a bit complicated, but once you get a basic idea of it then it is actually quite simple!
And Resolve, at times can be a lot easier for your system to handle when you are using resolve, suppose you need to use the same clip in the same timeline in fusion you can just connect the nodes and the media will be shared, whereas in AE you will have to bring in another clip, because of its layer based interface
Trust me, the free version of DaVinci Resolve is more than enough
And the DaVinci community is only going to get bigger and bigger, so I assume sooner or later half of the points that premiere has got in this vid for popularity and plugins will no more be relevant
DaVinci Resolve Beta is the way to go!
Hands down, the best way to get started in filmmaking, is through this course
is the dynamic link point a joke? you have a better version of AE inside the programm and if you want there is a link feature to standalone fusion. you have the complete Creative Cloude in one program no need for dynamic link
