  • Confused by the heart rate showing on your Schwinn or Nautilus exercise bike? You might be looking at the heart rate zone, which is a different indicator. This video explains both and how to make sure the heart rate zone is customized to you.
The following exercise bikes should have the same console:
    Schwinn 170 upright
    Schwinn 470 elliptical
    Schwinn 570U upright
    Schwinn 570R recumbent
    Nautilus R616 recumbent

Thanks. I have a Nautilus R614, and it's very similar. Assuming Schwinn bought Nautilus or vice versa. Great video!

Thanks it does explain however I don’t know how to hold it to get it to show on a brand new bike. Nothing ever shows up. It’s like I’m dead.

I have this bike and just recently purchased a heart rate monitor chest strap. I have been able to successfully pair/connect the monitor to my phone, Garmin bike computer, and Nautilus treadmill, but I can't seem to make it show up on the Schwinn bike. Do you know any tricks for making the bike recognize a new wireless HRM like a chest strap? There is really no info in the owner's manual.

My console doesn’t light up at all. Is there somewhere a battery goes to light it up?

Is the bike plugged in? Power cord goes in at front of bike near the bottom. If still not turning on, check your outlet with a phone charger or something to verify it’s working. If outlet is good, call Schwinn support.

Is it normal for the HR Monitor to start responding? I start pedaling and sometimes it takes 2-3 or more minutes for the heart 💜 to even start blinking let alone bring up the ranges. We have checked all connections and even received a new console but after only one time to use, it is doing the same thing again! Any thoughts on how to get it to more quickly start registering and the zone ranges to appear? Thx anyone and all for info.

Are you using the hand grips or a strap around the chest for heart rate monitor? We have only used the hand grips. You are probably doing these already, but just in case here are a few things you can do to make it as good as possible:
      - Be sure you are looking at heart rate on the lower screen, not heart rate zone on the top screen (zone should appear too, but if your age and weight are not accurate the zone will be inaccurate. I wonder if it’s possible to be so inaccurate the zone doesn’t even appear?)
      - Clean, dry hands
      - Moderate grip, don’t squeeze too tight
      - Both hands need to be on at the same time
      - If after about 10 seconds no heart rate registers, take hands off for about 5 seconds and try again with a slightly different grip. For example, try to have the most contact alongside your thumb muscle one time. If that doesn’t work, try to hit the center of your palms next time, etc try different angles.
      - Wipe the metal contacts with a towel so they are clean and dry
Good luck and let us know if you find anything that helps!

TY. I do use the hand grips and have tried a variety of palm locations and pressures. Will wipe it down again as well as my palms and keep everyone appraised of any improvements (or none). Thx again!

I did all that and my nody specs are all correct but my heart rate still says 132 just sitting and I know that's not right because my pulsometer says 80. Do you know why my heart rate still says 132?

Not sure. Sounds like it might just be inaccurate. What does Schwinn customer service say? You can call them at 800-605-3369.

I’m still confused as to why it’s not showing actual heart not zone

I could only guess that it is Schwinn’s way to personalize the reading to you. Different folks will want to target different heart rates depending on age, height, weight, so this way you target a zone that is appropriate for you. If you just want heart rate keep in mind you can find it in the lower display. Watch my video about SCAN ON/OFF if that helps you find heart rate. Thanks and best wishes!

I rechecked my settings and still I get no heartbeat numbers. The heart icon is filled in but it bounces back and forth with a calorie number but no heart beats. It did work a few years back. I’m wondering if having a leadless pacemaker inside my heart is interfering. Although my Apple Watch gives me heartbeat numbers.
      Your video is very helpful
