It is simple saying that the Father makes ALL MEN AWARE THAT GOD EXISTS and sends those who respond to that knowledge, to Jesus.
BUT! not all men will respond even though they have no excuse.
They know God exists but they made their choice.

Some people have dry wit, which is what I see in this speech. He seemed to want to present a "human" side to his father, not the pastor side.

This is very sad. I feel so bad for Abraham and for his father. There's so much pain in his words.
My grandpa was a pastor during a communist regime in USSR. Of course he made mistakes, but he was a very kind man who loved his children dearly. He worked 3 jobs because he wanted his family to have all the necessities, and at the same time was taking care of the church. He wasn't paid for being a pastor. Of course he was a busy man and my dad didn't get as much attention as he wanted, yet, he always knew that he was loved and his dad will be there if he needs him.
My father-in-law was also a pastor. Pretty much the same story.
Wouldn't have preferred a different life sad and fortunate moments. But seems like Abraham's resentment is on the past he had with his father on his father . Sadly of course he resents his father deeply and there's no love. Cool life story I think for him if only would he have surpassed being resentful and bittersweet and hateful. one can see a sort of tension in a abraham's relationship with his dad as he was telling the story in somewhat lighthearted manner but bit sarcastic. my gut feeling tells me he resents the strict christian upbringing, no rock and roll music, everything has to be about God. he probably got fed up by it all to the point where he is having teenage rebellion well into his adulthood. So i suppose, for devout christian parents, please be graceful enough to give some room for your kids to experience the world. then let them experience for themselves how following Jesus is the best way to live.
I see your point but its kinda like drugs if they go too far in they get addicted i agree with being a strict christian parent but i believe people learn more from their mistakes then being told the outcome (to be clear I'm not saying let them do anything try your best to be a biblical parent and teach the gospel) Its difficult being a christian parent because you can't keep then from having a life that will make then do immature stuff as an adult because they couldnt do it before and grow apart from god but you can't let them do what they want the best way to go is pray and listen to god and adapt as they grow

If you are raising your children in such a way that they feel like their only choice in life is to become a strict Conservative Christian, well that is indoctrination.
First century Christians believed in Jesus and they were largely illiterate and didn't have access to the scriptures even if they were literate. Model Jesus' Love for your children, but let your home be a place where they can feel free to express themselves and love them unconditionally. I am not saying you shouldn't teach your kids about God, but I have seen enough fundamentalist homeschooled kids and private schooled kids to see how controlling these parents are of their entire environment, and the results are not pretty. I'm homeschooling mom, early on I somewhat started down this path but put the brakes on it.
Mostly because I didn't feel like raising these naive, clueless children who would only been exposed to Christian shows, Christian music, Christian books, Christian friends, Etc....

I’m a preachers kid as well. If there was actually some sort of bitterness in what he was saying about his Dad, ( which I don’t think there was ) I understand living in the household of a Baptist Minister. As a child growing up in a big church between Buckhead and the city of Atlanta Ga., you sometimes feel like the people there, don’t really know who you’re parents are at home. At church, you feel as though you have to put on an act of some sort because….well….you’re the pastors kid. I think I would have thought differently if my parents had, had…a better relationship with each other, and if my parents had actually discipled me as a young child. Unfortunately….that wasn’t the case, so as a young child, I resented the church after a while. By the time I was 16, my parents gave me the option of not being forced to go to church, and I stopped going. By then, I was already dabbling in drugs, and eventually became a drug addict.
The difference between me, and Abraham Piper, is I never stopped believing that the Bible was true, and Jesus was who he claimed to be.
At age 19, I slowly stared to hate my life as a cocaine addict, and found myself longing for Christ. I became an actual believer, and started living for Christ. Have I had many peaks and valleys in my faith throughout the last 32 years…..yes….absolutely. Yet….through all of my short comings, Christ has never left me. He is faithful even when I’ve been faithless. Over time His grace and mercy have become clearer. Ephesians 2:8-9 has never been more clear to me than it is now. I am a sinner by nature and I fully and totally deserve God’s wrath for my sin, but because of Christ’s atonement for my sin on the cross, He has totally paid my sin debt in full, and I am now seated with Christ. Praise be to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
BTW…..My testimony isn’t about me! I didn’t save myself. My flesh doesn’t seek after God. It was FULLY the work of Christ who drew me to Himself, and saved a wretch like me.
I pray that Abraham will one day be drawn like I was, and really believe in Christ. I’ve seen his Tic Tok stuff as of recent, and it seems as though he’s trying to be intellectual, but regurgitating the same old Atheist arguments.
I do feel for Abraham though. I do get being a preachers kid, and remember feeling that “ this church stuff is all just a bunch of hypocrites who are judgmental, and claim to live by all these rules which they constantly break.” I get that. My problem was…. I didn’t really know Christ yet. I really hadn’t studied scripture yet, nor Apologetics’s yet. Most importantly…. I hadn’t had an encounter with the risen Savior yet. Even though I never completely stopped believing in Christ, I didn’t really know Him until I was broken to the point where my selfish pride was shattered, and all that was left was the cross.

Yes, so sad, he is carrying all that pain inside. That explains so many things :( Praying for a revelation of the Father's love in his heart that can heal what no one else can, and praying for a restauration of the relationship with his dad, maybe he doesn't realize about it but he needs that relationship to be restaured. Funny how this video has been up for 11 years and for the first 10 years all anyone saw or sensed was love and humor. Suddenly, it's all anger and bitterness. Ya'll need to check your powers of discernment. I think your signals may be scrambled.
You can sense the bitterness of his upbringing. This speech didn’t really honor his father, it pointed in a sarcastic way to how he felt he was robbed of the pleasures of a “normal” worldly upbringing. John wanted to raise his son in the Lord and his son must have had a thought that the pleasures of this life are better than the eternal treasure that Christ offers and the narrow path that is demanded to attain it. When the Lord Jesus saved me 20 years ago, the Holy Spirit was directing my prayer towards the essence of the Lord's Prayer. Instead of reading a salvation tract prayer and leaving it at that (yes, the Father was drawing me) the Holy Spirit took control and had me going through a list of people I was to forgive as I asked God for forgiveness over a very long list of sins that became strikingly evident and very ugly in His light. He would not let me get beyond my own earthly father before continuing, and then would not let me skip past forgiving my mother.
It would be some months later, when reading Ephesians for the first time, that I first saw this commandment with a promise. THIS is so important to our Heavenly Father. Now that I am not only saved but also a dad to four children, I am acutely aware of how easy it is to exasperate my children. All it takes is a bit of pride, a slight hardening, an act of hypocrisy, a lack of grace, error in teaching. I am not ashamed to apologise to my kids and not afraid to point out my sinfulness to them, for even as an unbelieving child in an unbelieving family I erroneously expected my parents to be perfect.
How much more would a child of a famous preacher expect his dad to be perfect, even as he kept that wrong expectation secret? I pray for both John and Abraham, that the God of reconciliation shall destroy both the vertical and horizontal dividing walls of hostility to the glory of Jesus Christ.

I think his dad was too harsh with him which caused a lot of resentment and bitterness. He's having his rebellious teen years well into adulthood. He associates God with his dad because he doesn't have his own personal relationship. Hence he now has resentment towards God. His apostasy is more about his relationship with his dad than it is about God.
Rebellious teen behavior is acting poorly in class and staying out at late hours of the night. Being a vocal atheist is not rebellious behavior.

This includes (and is not limited to) teachings of hell as eternal torment, God as both perfect and loving, and wrathful and vengeful, and the Bible as inerrant and literal (therefore even harmful practices and ideas should be followed). Just listen to people who grew up in fundamental Christianity and deconstructed, and there is often an immense amount of trauma from those teachings and what those teachings led people to do.

While I first heard of John Piper years ago, I only just today (Oct 14, 2021) heard of his son Abraham Piper. Like a few other commenters here, I don't detect any bitterness of Abraham toward John. In fact, I detect sweet, loving memories of his dad delivered with a sense of humor by a young Abraham Piper whose heart had not yet hardened toward GOD. Having also watched a more recent video today by Abraham, in which his sarcasm and bitterness toward GOD are evident, I must ask: "What Happened?" :(
It's because he realized the toxicity of fundamentalism and evangelicalism. As the son of John Piper he definitely had to live with these beliefs for a long time, beliefs that he didn't necessarily agree with.

The fact that the white American evangelical church equates that criticism with "mocking God" is a big clue why he left, why he's critical, and why the evangelical church will have no one but chest thumbing Nationalist bigots left if it doesn't get its house in order. The fact that 80% of the church body lifts up Donald Trump as a great leader anointed by God while pointing their finger at anyone else, for any reason, is enough to reason to mock.

@@truth7416 It's all a bit confusing to me. There's lots of things about creation that don't make sense to me, as well as a lot of apparent contradictions when you factor in God's omnipotence with evil and the fall of creation into sin.
The way I look at it is, God is a lot smarter than me so He must have good reasons for everything He does.
Though I must admit that ideas like God creating evil and the existence of an eternal hell just don't seem to be logically reconcilable to me. But I'm willing to give God the benefit of the doubt and assume He knows better than I do. And at the end of the day, like the analogy of the potter from the Bible, it's ultimately His show and God's creations don't really have any right to question their maker. It would still be nice if everything was able to be explained in a way that made everything make sense. And I for one, at least, have faith that it will.

truth is truth, or not at all. there is no middle ground with it. not being cruel, but it just is. you can't just interpret life how you want to, everything on the earth has a structure to it, so does truth, there is no reason to think otherwise.
