Thanks Barnabas, I’m older, schooled by the world, but oh so thankful that young men as you are stepping up, and old men like me can glean Wisdom from your sharing, to God be the Glory!
It's easy to be raised in a Christian home or raised as a Pastor's kid, know all the right things and yet NOT be saved. Each person, child, is saved by the grace of God alone, not being in a Christian home. I thank God for my son's salvation at 19. But he had some rocky rebellious years. Only by God's grace he made it through them. Parents DON'T GIVE UP. Stay on your knees. God uses the heart break of our kids to also purify and sharpen us!
Thank you for your candid testimony; very helpful. I’m seeing in my family pushing back concerning my faith as an important place God has put me to grow deeper with him as I pursue their questions and accusations to Christianity. We really do only grow through trial, tribulations, and testing of our faith. I pray that I get to the place I can really say I’ve learned to be content, completely satisfied in God, in any situation. Trials in the providence of God are the only place I’m going to find the answer to this question.
I have never had a crisis of faith. Life as a believer is a test and a trust. Many mine fields. But by God's grace i manage to avoid most. God has been faithful throughout my christian walk. He is always good!!! ✝️✝️✝️❤️❤️❤️
Knowing what we believe and why we believe is huge! The process of sifting through so many world views really challenges us not only what to believe but who or what we can trust. As a child we don’t think deeply about such things. Never the less we are shaped by what environments we live in and associate with. At the end of the day we will always take ownership of what world view we have perceived as what explains reality! Our choices and boundaries are affected by a perspective on what defines reality! What’s more our eternity is forever changed by way of Truth. “I Am the way and the Truth and the Life…” - Jesus
Thank you so much for sharing your heart. Our adult son, who was raised in Christian home, is going through this right now. We are concerned for him because he has chosen to isolate himself rather than seek the mentorship that you received and we fear that he may be coming up with the wrong conclusions regarding faith
I was the last of my two brothers to deconstruct. Our father is still a pastor. I think I understand the whole situation that the Piper family went through. I hope that you humbly find a way to love each other regardless of each one's personal convictions. In my family we did. Maybe you can too.
This was lovely and incredible to hear Barnabas. I have had a crisis of faith myself (which for the past year and a bit has begun to resolve itself) and there's many things you've said about the pressures on yourself to be the good, knowledgeable Pastors kid that I have begun to realise I had myself. What you said in this video I've found very interesting and helpful.
I encountered the real Jesus in Luke. I'm a roman legionnaire and I've even told my Centurion about it. I love that Luke makes us romans look cool and good. Also, Jesus is so brave to never question God, even when he is dying.
Thank you for sharing… truth has a beautiful ring that touches each of us in a way painful or confused deceit can’t. Thank you again for your raw honest journey its an inspiration to others struggling as well as your humble approach gives glory directly to Christ as well as His perfect design for appropriate church discipline through biblical church leaders.
I agree that many who grow up in church fear to challenge the beliefs of their parents. But it’s not because we don’t have a real relationship with Jesus. We fear challenging our parents because they did not want to be challenged. Our parents did not make us feel safe to ask questions. We were made to fear we were rebelling against God. We feared asking questions would land us in hell. Beginning to question things is not always due to an external force or an internal desire to sin. Questioning is normal. And it’s the only way to honestly search for truth.
There are all different kinds of wealth. Intellectual wealth is one. And as we know, it's "hard for the rich to enter the Kingdom." I'm so glad for the obvious work of the Holy Spirit in Barnabas. Such a brilliant family. I hope Abraham will come clean about his disingenuous work (that contains enough nuggets of truth to deceive well). Father work on Abraham. Thanks for your example of thoughtfulness and surrender, BP. Your story is convicting.
It just means you're trained to overlook the questions you should have. For example, if Abraham truly knew God then why would he ever assume that God would ever ask him for a human sacrifice? Shouldn't he have said "My God would never ask me for that, be gone demon!". You're also not really encouraged to compare the stories in the bible which are retold as the answers change dramatically depending on which gospel you read. OR they're verbatim the exact same word for word meaning they're all copying from each other (Synoptic problem). Sure, you can have questions. You just have to go through mental gymnastics to make it fit into the answer the church wants you to arrive at.
Thank you for sharing your Testimony. I was was a Pastor’s kid too. It really can be confusing as to where your Identity lies. In Christ or representing you Pastor Dad and the church. And I really in may ways left the faith, similar to Abraham Piper became very anti God and Evangelical. I almost converted to Buddhism. But 10 years ago I had a supernatural encounter with the Holy Spirit that changed my life forever. Haven’t turned back since.
Thank you Barnabas. I agree with you. Theology is useful but it has clear limitation. To be completely honest with you, Calvinism doesn't help. I became a Calvinist for a couple of years and it wrecked my faith and produced so much doubts. I thank God for the late Derek Prince whose messages online help me tremendously. Derek Prince messages online are nuggets of gold.
@@just_bee9482 If someone learns the theology of Calvinism before actually understanding the Bible at a fundamental level, it can be harmful. It’s giving meat to a spiritual infant. Calvinism is biblical. But it’s meat that only spiritually mature Christians can really take hold of. I wouldn’t even introduce Calvinism to a new Christian until they are years into their walk.
I’m not sure I share the use of the term “deconstruction”. In this era of history, that term means the disposal of your entire faith. When I saw what this segment was about, my heart was saddened, believing that two of John Piper’s sons had wholesale left the Faith. I am grateful that I haven’t, but wonder that maybe the term used for your ‘sanctification’ process might be rephrased.
Paul said, " Follow my example. " What was Paul's example? He was Scripturally literate AND Filled with GOD, the HOLY SPIRIT, and being those TWO things GOD was able to minister through him - in teaching and the Gifts of GOD, the HOLY SPIRIT. The true church was, is and should always be the ACTS CHURCH. Cessationism is a false blasphemous doctrine. There was a man, Dr. Derek Prince. Who was educated in England's best schools. He was a scholar in the original languages in the Scriptures. BUT, he was also a Baptized in the HOLY SPIRIT Christian. He was an international Bible teacher, minister and author. He followed Paul's example. SO we have CHRIST - Paul and a modern " Paul." The balanced combination: The WORD with the SPIRIT. Check him out. 💐
Everything happens for the good of those who loves God. Believe and faith in God is the work of the Holy Spirit. The parents can only guide the kids along the journey of finding out more about our Lord, the channel for God's grace in kids' lives.
My thing is why does this guy care to voice his opinion that God does not exist and Christians are stupid? Christians care to spread the word of God because we want others to join us in heaven. Atheist want others to disbelieve in order to what? Be like them?
What Barnabas doesn't realize is that he has nothing deep here to say about his experience. This is just vanilla xtian apologetics. He hasn't actually left the framework he was indoctrinated and pressed towards the real hard questions. He screwed up and he got scared at one point. A personal crisis that made him pause for a season... but he didn't keep going. What he hasn't realized is "faith" as an epistemology is pretending to know things that you don't actually know. Start there and keep going.

Why does this happen? Why bring kids to church if it can actually prevent them from being actually saved?
Quite instructive....
Quite illuminating... Revealing... Humbling, even
Sobering, also!!!!
Thank you very much, Barnabas Piper. Thank you.

Love this testimony. Yes to be a christian it doesn't mean we don't have questions anymore.

Thank you for your true words. I will pray for your
Brother.
Thank you for this.
As a Christian parent, your honest and humble testimony is so helpful. Thank you and bless you!
Praying for your brother.
Awesome testimony! I can relate to everything you said.
He forgot to say, "priveledge". It us not just a burden. But perhaps a blessing of being included at tge center if a Christian fanily.

Doubts and questions are form of faith that allowed in the Old Testament. Dr. Vsngrmeron from Trinity seminary in Deerfield. During Ed.D class.
Jesus asked why are you forsaking me on the cross.

Question answered by Barnabas himsel. I jumped the gun so to speak. OOPS!
Is Barnabas Piper related or a son of John Piper or no connection at all??
He says at the beginning of this video that he is John Pipers son.
Whatever else this video says, it says along with his atheist son and this sons testimony, John Piper is unqualified.
Everything happens for the good of those who loves God. Believe and faith in God is the work of the Holy Spirit. The parents can only guide the kids along the journey of finding out more about our Lord, the channel for God's grace in kids' lives.
I think he is retired.
I agree he has left quite the legacy! The Pipers need to withdraw from the spotlight and quit pretending to be leaders
Or to threaten his emplomemt.
My thing is why does this guy care to voice his opinion that God does not exist and Christians are stupid? Christians care to spread the word of God because we want others to join us in heaven. Atheist want others to disbelieve in order to what? Be like them?

What did you just say?
Not much of a deconstruction journey if you never even allowed yourself to question if God exists or if the Bible is true.
Lol 😂 I’ll pray to Santa Claus that you come back to deconstruction 🎉🎉🎉
