How To Melt Snow On A Flat Roof
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- Back in February we started installing radiant heat in the ceiling of our small dormer. The steep slope of our A-Frame roof coming down to the not so steep dormer roof will cause build up of snow when we have large storms. Our plan is to install radiant heat in the roofs of both dormers to melt the snow during these larger storms. Today you will see footage taken back in February when we started the project, as well as footage from this evening as we finish the project.

Nobody deserves to have "A Plan" come together more than you two. You guys have been so diligent and committed. Whether you realize it or not, your children will remember when Mom & Dad built the house. It will have set an example for them that will last a lifetime. Well done guys!
Josh and Erin, you both are an Outstanding example to young men and women. The world could use more like you.
You two are troopers working towards making your dream come true. I applaud .you! You are so close to having a fully functional home. I know it is going to be amazing. Then other projects will be coming along on the homestead. I am truly so happy for your family.
So proud to have met you kids. Takes flipping a light switch to a whole new way of thinking. Erin, get that girls mind off the double entendres and back on building (I joke) Your girl is the one that won't leave in a hard spot ( no double ment ) because she did her homework and weather she come from a family of builders or you rescued her from washing dishes at a burger joint, U DID GOOD!! Oh how much fun you guys make it seem to be and granted the videos help get past the long days and nights of liniment and sore muscles. The kids are of no worse for wear. I will get your name wrong cause I can't remember mine... Alissa, you are a rock star. Choosing music that appeals to all listening and even the armchair carpenders must agree that your doing it great and a great bunch of fun to watch. I admit that even I get tired when watching as I built myself and finding sleep at night wasn't impossible then . I see your daughter jumping in the mud and thinking when you were little kids this was the norm. Now comes the sheet rock jack and that is less fun than watching paint dry. Looking back will be fun and I wonder how many nights will be curled up before a fire with wine, chips and dip by a warm fire watching it over and saying I can see where the mistakes are. My prayers are setting in a house very close to finish on a white piece of porcelain and saying "I miss the outhouse"... I know I did for a short while. No more scrubbing clothes of a scrub board or going into laundry mat With Real Love For You Both, Morgan
Bit by bit, you guys are getting there, it is only a matter of time - stay strong and remember to have fun along the way. All the best from Downunder 🦘
That radiant heating in the roof is just brilliant!
I stumbled upon your channel by happenstance while watching Shawn James build his cabin in Canada. I'm now mesmerized by what you're doing. Hard to believe how much you've accomplished in a year. While the videos suggest you two work well together, I really like the out-takes. They underscore your personalities much better and help cement the fact that you two actually do have fun together and are on this mission as a team. Keep doing what you're doing! I'm also interested and appreciative of the amount of work you put in to produce the videos. I know how much time it takes to clip segments, apply music overlays and make the video come in at a reasonable time. You two are becoming masters at that, so I applaud you!
As a fellow do it yourselfer I have just started watching and am a big fan. Josh you are blessed to have a wife who will roll up her sleeves and hit it with the best of them. Looking forward to seeing you guys masterpiece. Its beautiful.
I've been watching you two for a while now, but this one really sends me! My husband and I were outdoor wood burning furnace dealers here in Northern Illinois for years and we pulled miles and miles of pipe together. I can't wait to show him your vid when he gets home. From what I can see you did a great job! You two stay sweet!
Josh and Erin: You two are one powerhouse team, no stopping you! Great work! Peace!
Look like a Hula Hoop Shop for a while as your running the pex into place. Very nice video and interesting configuration for insulating the roof of the dormer. Great job.
Great video, I love how Josh is taking time off work to do the house, but you still remember treats for the kids!! Good parenting.
i am far far away from you with lots of problems BUT watching your videos made me smiling which i do rarely nowadays... wish you happiness forever...
Y'all are thinking about the necessary things that a lot of people would have not thought about. Have a blessed day. Love your family attitude.❤
Each item is something off the list, and while it may seem like it never ends, each is a step towards getting in. And some fine work done yet again, and some Big steps coming up soon! Hope all is well on the homestead, and send you blessings and love as always ;)
Whoever edits these videos (I assume it's Erin), does a fantastic job.......the videography, music and not to forget content, is amazing 👍

Very cool solution to the snow problem. Love watching your videos. You work great together. Thank you for including us in your journey
When you guys get cranking on the job it is like a well-tuned machine! Congrats!
You work hard, this makes you deserving of many achievements, complicity, your partnership is beautiful to behold. I wish you many achievements, many victories!
She shoots ..... She scores!! Another zinger to start the show from Erin. You two work so well together and you'll be snug as a bug in a rug (as they say) in the new kitchen. Good luck with all the jobs you have lined up for this week. I pray the weather holds for you. Noah it appears has been born again and must be building the 2nd Ark over here in the UK. As we approach the longest day of the year, it's flippin' cold, raining and miserable, less Midsummer's Night Dream more A Winter's Tale. Ho hum.
Love the view from your window
You guys are rockin' it. Great progress.
Big changes coming. It will be cool seeing you guys moving forward. Some projects coming that will have a BIG impact on your day to day routines.

One of your better vids. I have to admit, I've never seen a roof treated like that -- a "hot" roof. Interesting.

Wow, you guys got more hard work ahead. You're getting closer to your dream!!!
You guys are really fun to watch!!!!!!!!!!
Working on the Shed??? She Shed-or- He Shed ?????? A friend used an outside wood furnace in Northern MN. He had to discipline himself to feed that monster twice a day and that the owner had "Over Taxed the System" so it wasn't as efficient as it should. Others have built an insulated shed around their furnace and said that it helped. Didn't say by how much. Everything yuuz guyz have been doing shows me the level of thought and homework you have done. Keep it up and looking forward to the next video.
getting exciting guys can't wait too watch the progress.
Radiant heating the roof from the ceiling and installing proper vents to keep the heat there is new to me.
It should work fine to keep that patch of your roof clear of any snow or ice in the winter months. You
could have installed electric snow and ice damning under your metal roofing and used them when you need to.
But using the radiant heating in the roof that’s tied into the main house heat will keep that roof toasty all winter.
Love your videos keep them coming.
as I have come to expect from you two you did a great job. cannot wait for your next video.
amazing how far you have come in just over a year.
What an amazing relationship
You two make me smile! Keep up the good work, it is looking great.

Very interesting on the roof. I've never seen that done before. That's wild but makes sense. If it wasn't for the dormers it wouldn't matter but having them, yea, I can see the issues. Nice work as usual. Really starting to come together good.

Best team beautiful work
Always loved putting the insulation batts up, as it meant the next step was putting drywall or paneling, and I was that much closer to being done
just a heads up. I was reading about solar arrays for rvs and off grid applications, what i took away from it was,
there can be a big voltage drop through the cables when setting up, there is a big drop from the array to the battery controller and batteries, then a bigger drop from the batteries to the inverter, this drop is very much to do with the length of the wire runs, however there is little or no loss in the wires from the inverter to the house.
I would suggest you build a power room as close to the array as possible, to keep that run as short as possible.
love your channel, great to you working together.
Just a heads up. He's an electrician by trade and knows about the drop. They also did a video explaining why they used a heavy gauge wire to account for the drop.
Back to work on the interior, you guys have gotta get in there before the cold weather comes!
Congatulations!
Sending much love to the fam.😎🤙🦅❤
