A lot of other 'service based' TH-camrs never show their comebacks, preferring to edit them out entirely. This gives the 'impression' they never maker a mistake and we all know that's a load of BS. You show your process, Curtis -warts and all- and also show how a business owner should handle mistakes. With honest and integrity to make it right! 😎👍
I don't have very many return trips. But every once in a while I'll get one I'll have to go back 3 or 4 times..
Very true point. Just for that you'll best subscribe and like due to the lack of BS.
I struggled with this as I worked for a company. Made a few… mistakes 😅, ate some time. Now retired. Thanks for showing there are honest HVAC service tech’s out there.
Everyone make mistakes otherwise they don’t work
Owning up to your mistakes takes a REAL man! A man of integrity! You made it right!
When I have TXV problems on old systems like that I just replace it with a piston I've done over 20 conversions and never had an issue or call back on one of them.
You charged the right price, your customers know you stand behind your work, that pays back dividends. Well done! 👍
Absolutely seems like a stand up dude. A rarity these days
That business model will always keep you more work than you know what to do with!! Always enjoy your channel
Thanks 👍
You’re Honest and a Smart Businessman because a Smart and Honest Businessman is more Likely to Succeed in Business. Thanks for being Super Reputable. 👍🙏
Great video. I would recommend protecting TXVs a little more, they can be sensitive to heat and you can smoke gaskets if it isnt pritected enough. Appreciate the honesty.
I'm a firm believer in heat block paste. It aint fun changing out service valves from u guys hitting it with way to much heat. Now I make them use heat block.
That's why many people have swapped to the propane torch, and the lower melting point of products such as stay -brite.
If you're pulling apart a system, I am all about the oxy acetylene, but when it comes to installing and dealing with higher pressures of a 410 a system, it's just not worth it .
I have done that job several times and find it easier to remove the condenser fan top, makes it alot easier and gives you more room.
ive always worked by ,,"what goes around, comes around" !!!!
Integrity is everything! Well Done!
Awesome video Sir. Components fail because they're man-made. I encounter call-backs too. I've learned that it doesn't mean you did something wrong. Again Great video Sir.
Thanks
I absolutely love watching someone who's good at his job and knows what he's doing . This man know his stuff when it comes to heating and cooling . Every community needs a man like this working in it
Honesty is always good for business but more importantly it helps you sleep at night. Great content as usual Curtis.
Curtis, thanks for wallking us through to the end of this video! Very entertaining! You are a very outstanding Man! I learn from you and Always look forward to your videos! Thanks!
Amen brother... honesty is the best policy in business... it has a good side affect... you sleep well at night :)
Wish my local GMC dealer had your ethics. You will be rewarded.
Looking for ethics at any car dealer is a lost cause.
Nicely done Curtis, and we do appreciate your Honesty. Thank you 👍
Thanks
Amen brother. Take care of your customers and they will take care of you. At the end of the day I'm glad I have my integrity intact. Nvr was a parts pusher nvr will be.
That is good business my friend. I just had the same conversation with a mechanic. I have to sleep at night and have to do the right thing. Some folks just don't have a conscious. Nice video
Thanks 👍
Honest job.....nice work.
Thanks 👍
I did a job back in the day, the guy was a recluse. When I went in his home their was news paper articles of a car accendent. His wife and kids passed and he lived. I changed out a bad blower motor, then went over the furnace from top to bottom. Told him I was putting my tools up, and drove off. That job fked me up, so I went into refrigeration and never looked back.
I read all the comments and agree with them about honesty.curtis you did great on making this unit running machine 👍
Thanks 👍
That was my question to you about charging them. Good call Curtis
Possibly shavings, contaminated refrigerant ,or carbon from un sweat? I do a lot of commercial and never ever un sweat anymore as it’s only served to cause me issues. Tripple evac that bad boy as well :)
You’re an incredible tech and keep up all the great work.
You’re a good man Curtis!
Interesting. The txv was new with the coil right. Moisture i think would plug the drier and show the same symptoms, but it would have to be significant moisture. was there a temp drop across the drier? If not the valve clearly wasn't feeding properly. the extra recovery was probably a waste but you never know, and you were doing right by the customer for trying. Great content as usual Curtis, thanks.
New TXV doesn’t come with the coil. So, it was older.
@HVACGUY ahh, I try to blow nitrogen through everything high to low. If it's restricted enough, you can see it sometimes with nitro and save yourself some time, but you never know. usually you replace the compressor, then find the valve that killed it 😆 but you can't help that, it's just part of the job sometimes.
Anytime I gotta open a system I change metering device no matter what I'm doing. Better to be safe then sorry...or been there done that 😂😂
All right ✅️, all right ✅️ all right ✅️ 😊
Ur awesome brother 🙌
Is there a reason for not wet ragging the txv to protect it for most of the time ?
I admire your work and honesty. Make it right by the customer, they make it right to you.
u are a good man.
You’re an honest person, like me. Retired auto mechanic. I would do the exact same thing and you will get repeat customers and extra customers because of your honesty. 🙏
Is it Possible that one of your “Other” Employees 😬 was Responsible for this Call Back ? Just Kidding, Curtis! 😬👍🙏
💯%🎯 🙂👍 great job we need more technician like you
Thanks 👍
Nice work as always Curtis.
Thanks again!
That’s how you build customers for life .
Entertained as always. Great content!
Much appreciated!
You're lucky I would've cooked that txv without any heat block. Especially on a Monday.
Great video, good advise!! Thank You!!
❤❤❤❤excellent . Honesty and integrity at its best I ever seen in this business . Keep it up and you shall get awarded all the time.
Thanks
I was run out of a company where I had worked for many years for the simple act of saying “I don’t know” when I didn’t know something. My boss melted down when I didn’t offer up some BS excuse because I wasn’t perfect. He made life so hard for me I had to quit. I had five years of working for mean people but I finally found a great job that rewards honesty. I admire your honesty and your good sense in doing the right thing-would that it be there was more of it around.
Curtis is the complete opposite of those HVAC techs that that were trying to take advantage of the lady here vs not charging the customer for the callback (your other video). That's true honesty and integrity. Kudos to Curtis !!
thanks
Hey Curtis, how is the wifey feeling? Great job on this video.
You’re very good. You seem very honest and straight forward. I just had a Samsung 24k mini split installed in my garage. I was very happy with that work so I had them upgrade our home AC from a noisy standard builders grade 3 ton 13 seer Trane unit to a York side discharge 16 seer unit. The garage unit is awesome and the new York AC is so quiet and so much more efficient. I watch. I ask a lot of questions. And I always learn about something of which I know nothing. I like your style.I appreciate your videos, the way you explain things, and I learn a lot. Thanks.
Thanks for being an example to so many. I am curious though, what would a repair like this cost? I don't know why, but my dad always taught us to spend time solving problems. I have had so many cases where I had someone fix stuff only to end up with more problems. As a result, I have a lot of trust issues and consequently do my own work - as much as I can. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment as this is the kind of service I would be happy paying for and trusting the technician. Thank you again Curtis.
love that youre adding music to diagnoses clip
Curtis, you are good people. Sadly, not many of you. Take care.
I sometimes back blow best i can with txv out just make sure no trash in it at least makes me feel better.
I had one of these smart thermostats to shut down the orange wire after a few minutes after it shuts off. It messed with me for a little bit.
I like your note at the end. I have learned over the years to do the same. In other things in life we can keep the good deeds in secret but in business you always tell them. Great video brother!
Absolutely!
Curtis, you have done this many times. I agree with you that kindness and honor always helps. I always thought your a good Christian man.
Great in depth detail on the professional way to handle mistakes. I do large commercial systems snd I taje care of my mistakes. Most of the the time I have to take care of other's mistakes. That tends to be more difficult as they trusted that first guy and they tend not to like the idea that their tryst was misplaced.
I know you probably read something like this already but you are truly inspiring! Your work don’t go unnoticed and you are making a difference in many who watch your videos . Thank you for making the effort to post them . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great job Curtis wish all techs were as honest as you thanks for the video
In this industry I see most people will not and do not admit to their mistakes, they will find any way to blame someone else or make an excuse. Nothing but respect for saying it could have been your fault! With my boss, I will just tell him Hey I messed up it was my fault I did this or that and he doesn't get mad cause I'm owning up to my mistake, unlike the others who I work with that never, never own up to their mistakes and my boss knows it. in fact, my boss had to let someone go this week because of problems like this. Just goes to show! Love your channel, plz keep doing what you're doing, thank you for all the amazing content!
Goodman, Curtis.Chalk it up to the cost of doing business. Amazing how many times people tell me that so and so does not warrant their work.
Well done!! Service is what it’s all about.
I think few outside the trades like yours have any appreciation for how much you have invested in highly technical tools, all of the capital tied up in the parts and supplies and gasses or the consequences of making a mistake around the AC, gasses, moving parts. Impressive.
Way to go Curtis.
There is a feature with the fieldpiece manifolds while performing a test tightness. Use your suction clamp on the suction line, and the manifold will account for pressure change caused by temperature change.
Use rubbing alcohol on the micron sensor. Swish it around. Dump it out and repeat.
You can perform a micron comparison test on an empty recovery tank.
Sometimes a little silver solder flux makes the pipes with solder on them solder more easy.
Question - why is silver solder being used?
Nice work love the channel. I had some concerns when you were brazing close to the txv though, asyou didnt break the valve down/remove the power head or protect the heat sensitive valve.
Glad you stand behind your work and love the transparency.
Just awesome work, as always.
Thanks
I like watching your content keep doing what you do man. I've learned a lot watching your channel. I'm wanting to learn HVAC some day so all this information helps. Thank you and God bless
A Godly Man doing his part for HIS community! Good Job!
Blessings to you...
Lowell
Thank you for the honesty your a good dude and epic tech I hope to be as knowledgeable and thorough as you one day and be able to own my own company solo maybe plus 1 but keep it simple no stress just good work
Also not your fault txv took a poop
Most excellent content....👍
❤
I like to use stabrite #8, lot less heat on that txv . Never had problems with it, also no oxidation in pipes.
When you did the last repair, I was thinking that the TVX was way too close to that dryer... Boy that was one expensive bill to swallow 12# of 410A, TXV a lot of labor. Kudos for standing behind your work,
The two times I've ever needed a call back, I've offered to pay for the tech's service time. The reason is that we all know that fixing one thing might alter the settings of other components. It happens, but the revisit wins the (understanding) customer.
Totally agree with your closing thoughts, that being said, might have been a hard sell to tell the customer they need to pay for replacing a TXV after paying to replace an evap coil. To them, that would be all one call since they do not understand the mechanics of it.
Good call on the evac and deep vacuum. Sure can’t hurt any😊.
as a contractor I just did the same thing. it wasnt hard but being nice sometimes pays like you said. Bravo Great Job!!!
Your a good man!! We need more honest people like you.. You have my up most respect. I have done your trade for many years, don't see that kind of honesty often..
Is it me or does the outside unit need to cleaned, and spray some water on that house 😂
Wow, I was thinking this bill is going to break the bank as I was watching. They did get a new TXV not sure how much those cost but you know your customers better than we do. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Way to go!! Great repair!!
Thanks 👍
I use the Milwaukee pump with the half inch appion hose, same micron gauge, same appion core removers… I hit 1000 microns in under 2 minutes almost every time. I also close the ballast just above 1000 as well. Sometimes it struggles after about getting to 300-400 microns for whatever reason but more often than not it gets below 100 without a problem. I’ve actually gotten that pump to pull down to 19 or 20 microns. I believe it advertises 25
Definitely one of those situations where doing the right thing has value. Difficult to put a monetary price on it, but you know in your gut .
I been having major issues with my FP vacuum. One system wouldn’t go down 1100m even with a triple evac. Took out my old pump and it pumped it down too 150m in 30min. Time to send it back for service
When brazing, I use this heat block putty spread it on the txv and drier. It makes a mess but is worth it, in my opinion.
Curtis. I have been watching your videos for some time now and until this point I never recall you directly reference Christian faith. Yet indirectly your faith in how you follow it came across loud and clear. I was not the least surprised to hear you testify to the importance of honest and forthright business dealings. I can imagine taking on the loss of your paid time hurt....in the short term. But long term it reaps the benefit of a life well lived. Blessings.
Two things
1; Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
2; Every Dawg has it's day.
You’re a good man bud. Honestly on something like this I get it. You technically could have charged them, but if you had of you never know some people are gonna blame you even though it most likely was nothing you did at all. I changed a compressor for a guy who was like something from the pits of hell if you know what I mean. He was a hateful dude. I work till almost 5 o clock I believe and I’ll be if the revering valve wasn’t bad also. Now I know that was not my fault, how could I have known. In retrospect you could say I should have replaced it while I was in there, but it was a Goodman not very old unit. I should have charged him, I worked half the night tearing it down again replacing the valve charging it back up ect. I didn’t charge him a Penney. He wasn’t grateful either. Oh well lol.
did you run it in reverse before you diagnosed the coil? And you should get you a small turbo torch rig but buy the bigger head been an awesome tool for me for years and easier on the back in an attic! Also you'll burn less holes in the copper.
No, it was low, and I did a leak search, found a leak, then charged it. It stayed like that for 4 weeks and did fine. It only started doing this after I changed the coil.
gotcha. been a tech for a few decades so i know sometimes funny stuff just happens lol. Just gotta roll with it. Love the vids.
I always use good wire ties and wrap them in electrical tape. I have observe them work loose in extremes weather changes.
-Good job Mr Curtis-
thank you for being so honest was us and how you go by these tough situations
Far as billing that would be NC thats a tuff one
Send you test equipment to The Cal Shop Inc in Clayton New York
Your doing a great job. Don't worry bro
Smart move with the no charge. That rental company will always have your business.
There's always a value to "free". Even if you didn't profit on that exact visit, you've reinforced the business relationship, and that's a slice of fried gold!
Pressures in the beginning where in cooling mode?
S*** happens. You did the right thing by eating it this time even if it’s unlikely you caused it… Someone who doesn’t know much about A/C could easily see it that way and roast you, whereas this way you’ll have earned the client’s trust and will likely be their go-to guy and the one they recommend to others.
Call backs are horrible but you learn from them. If bad TXV after coil swap. That suck especially on a package unit. The Rudd rheem line is famous for bad txv I include them with repairs it’s open all charge is evacuated I’ve learned
Amen. Nicely done
Salute 🫡 good job…
You did a very professional repair Curtis I looked at first video too you did a good job then. I did suppect your SST was low
Hate doing a TXV in that type unit. You do quality work and it shows in your technique. Was that a Covid era built unit?
Seeing a lot of those TXV’s going bad from that time.
Just poor quality control I suppose.
In most manuals for vacuum pumps, it will tell you to keep the gas ballast open till a certain micron. And then close it to have it go through the oil then. Read the manual of the pump so you know what it says for that vacuum. Rule of thumb is 2000.
Curtiss try 5psi on acetylene and 10psi on oxygen.
Much better control of brazing.
