Let's be real here, Omega deserves at least an 8 in iconic and history, maybe 9 too, it's around at the olympics, it's on James Bond's wrist, it's the brand of the moonwatch and I've seen the seamaster 300 on people like Gordon Ramsay, it's not Rolex but it's no Tudor/Breitling either.
Also, a humble midsized quartz Omega SMP (which I own and love) is on Prince William’s wrist ever since Lady Di gave it to him as a teenager. The future King of England has worn and will continue wearing it for decades.
Rolex is the original Bond watch. Omega were 40 years late to the Bond party. Hamilton, Seiko and even Gruen have a longer history with Bond than Omega.

I have purchased and used various Divers during my lifetime, starting with a Seiko 6309 I bought in '76 to take SCUBA lessons while in high school. In 1990, I purchased an Omega Seamaster 200 Pre-Bond and used it for quite some, until acquiring a Rolex Submariner in 2001. Along the way, I have purchased other Divers including a Certina, Vaer, and Lorus, but when I head out to for a long hike or go near water, I wear my trusted, rugged, and beloved Seiko.
I dive. I am not going to dive with a watch that cost more than my boat. Lets be realistic, I don't guess people that would pay Submariner $, dry suit dive in the Great lakes...Seiko is the best watch for those pursuits, it works fine, and I am not going cry over it getting damaged.
Agree. For a day on Lake Michigan I take my little buddy Arnie. For dinner that night I may wear some man-bling in my Bluesy, which apparently also confirms my Boomer-ness. Cry me a river. I could look at the blue on that dial for days. Work as hard as I have and buy what you want. But I do love my Seikos where applicable (task/use case).

Definitely the Omega. The sub is definitely not value it's so overpriced! Even at retail price it's 5k too much.
Why? Have you ever taken the time to handle one closely? The engineering, finishing and overall feel are impeccable. I love my Seamaster 300, but it feels nowhere near as well-made as my sub. The price difference is directly apparent when you view them next to each other.
I'm a diver. I own an Oris Aquis Depth gauge. I was thrilled to find out that, despite buying it because I loved the" uncomplicated" complication, it turned out to be an ACTUAL useful and important feature during my recent dives. Sometimes you don't dive very deep, some schools do not offer a computer as part of the rental gear so you only have the PSI gauge and need to keep track of your bottom diving times. Yes you can buy a computer for a fraction of the cost and get much more accuracy but, for recreational diving, that's just another thing to remember to pack. Keep it safe and simple with analog! Oris all the way!

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is my favorite regardless of cost, my dream dive watch, I hope they come out with a standard model in 42mm or better yet in 40mm.

Me too, but they just keep missing the mark and making the same mistakes over and over again. No one wants a 46mm dive watch. If they made their large watches in 40mm they would sell them all day long.

As a professional diver, if i was choosing a watch to take diving I would pick the Seiko. I would have loved to see Doxa and Blancpain included in the rating. (Doxa would have scored 10 in Iconic, street cred and History - Cheers!
Yeah, how do you even think of including Breitling and leave out Doxa (and Blancpain)? Breitling would be one of the last added to a dive watch list.

IMO Omega is king, why? It's available, it does not cost you an arm and a leg, iconic, beautifully made, quality is an outstanding, awesome mechanism, it's truly a fantastic watch. I have Tudors, Omegas, Panerai, Oris, and a few other mechanical watches and to me, Omega outshines all of my watches with a close second to my Tudor which people always ask me what am I wearing and they're surprised that it's not a Rolex...
Omega is great. Just have a design that feels a bit too modern to me as a Tudor-fan :)

I’d happily wear any of those watches, but I can’t think of any cooler watch than that Seamaster 300 Professional. The scalloped bezel is so unique, the laser engraved dial is eye catching, the hands are perfect, and it’s a 300m diver with a sapphire case back which is super impressive in itself. Add the Bond connection, and the fact that it’s half the price of the Sub… The only weakness is that bracelet; it’s very 90’s looking. If one day I ever do something worth really rewarding myself for, i’ll buy the Seamaster.
i just picked up the seamaster 300m with a white dial and black rubber strap and its amazing. i have small wrists and its comfortable and stylish and even more stunning in person. i would absolutely recommend im still in awe.

Omega has a stainless steel Milanese bracelet for it as a hidden option, it’s pretty pricey though and the deployment clasp on it is pretty thick but it is the best looking option IMO
Take the plunge and pay for it over a year if you can’t afford it right now. You won’t regret it. I own everyone of these accept the submariner. But I have a Pelagos. But when I get the call I will be marching right down there to pick it up.
I got a 2020 planet ocean much better than a regular 300m seamaster better quality much better bracelet and 8900 calibre movement
I wear my 25 year old Seamaster every day I’m a tradesman and it gets a hammering, only serviced it twice yet still keeps perfect time.
I think the Seamaster deserves to be higher in the score.
Nah. It has a tacky design and was lucky to get a quality score higher than the sub which just isn’t true if you have owned both.

The SMP design language looks like it's aging poorly again. However, I would give credit to the PO. That watch retains Omegas DNA better and is a watch I regret selling. Would be keen on getting a future model that is hopefully thinner.
No i don't have submariner. That's because I really don't want to pay nearly 14,000 euros for a basic stainless steel submariner. For comparison, I paid 3900 euros for my Omega Seamaster in 2019.

I'd have loved to see Seiko represented by one of their higher-quality divers (Marine Masters, a 62MAS from the SLA-line, etc) that are still more affordable than anything on the list save for the Tudor, and easily equal or best the quality of anything else there.
They did say "wild card," and the value aspect + history of the original Seiko Diver makes for a tough combination to beat. That said, I'd have almost rather seen the Propex LX go up against watches in a similar price point, but with a Spring Drive.
I own a sub 40mm, a sub date 41mm, the same omega, the same seiko but with grey dial and an SLA055… the sla is my favorite to wear.
I would also have included the Seiko Marine Master, probably in SLA version in order to match the price range of other watches in this comparison. The case is exceptional and SLA movement holds up against that competition.
@@urbannomad8126 Likewise--I have an SLA043 and it's by far the most versatile (and therefore more worn) watch I have. The dial and case finishing is well beyond anything on this list, the "ever-brilliant steel" seems to be unscratchable, the design is classic, and at 39mm, it's meaty but compact. It's far less expensive than the Rolex, Omega, and Breitling but hand-finished to a higher standard than any of them, so the value is extraordinary. And I get that "street cred" is totally subjective, but Rolex and Omega are such common mainstream picks for anyone looking to buy a luxury watch-whether they are enthusiasts or just looking to strap a status symbol on their wrists-that I'd always give the credibility nod to the person rocking the watch that quietly communicates its value to the owner and other passionate watch-nerds instead of merely broadcasting its price to strangers.
I have a Seiko 200m Divers watch with day and date.
It was always going to be the best value for money.
I don't see why a Rolex would work any better.

You're killing me. A $12,000 watch is rated 7 for value. I mean the residuals are good at the moment at least, but it's *$12,000*. For not much more, you could get a Lange!

Would love to see this in other watch categories! You could also do this as a bracket, and put several other iconic watches head-to-head and then have a matchup of all of the winners in an ultimate showdown. People go crazy over brackets and tiers! Plus it gives you the ability to give more opinions about other watches that don't come up in everyday conversations or can even be lumped into price categories. Rolex will trump Doxa, Cristopher Ward, Oris, etc., but different niche markets offer more realistic pieces that we can actually acquire
Doxa and Blacpain are missing. Much better fit than Breitling or to certain extent Tudor (cheaper Rolex). Have Seiko diver since mid late 80s (with over 300 dives) and it still works great. Yes, everyone wants Rolex, but for diving, Seiko or Doxa any day.
LOVE this ranking content! Can learn so much about different watches and perspectives in a scale rather than just listening talking for hours. Please do more of this in racing watches or dress watches and other watch categories as well!
I love the sarcasm. Nicely done. Firstly, if this had been a Seiko 6105-8000 or 8110, it would have scored higher in both history and in terms of Street cred.
Secondly, the best tool watch is one that I can get, can afford, one I am not afraid to wear, one that won't get knicked and one that will take the abuse. That could be an EcoZilla, an SKX, an Uemura, a Mako, an Arnie, a Sumo, a Fugu, a Barnacle, a Ray, a Turtle, a 62MAS, an Aqualand, an Orca, or any Tuna, be it Darth, Emperor, Baby, or a regular one.
In short, the best dive watches are the domain of Citizen, Seiko, Orient and, if you're strapped for cash, a Casio Duro. All the rest are more for the pose than the ride. You give them too much Street cred. Collector's cred, Investor's creed and Street cred are vastly different things, you see.
Diver watches are the best! I love my Omega PO. The best thing about all dive watches are that they are over engineered and solid.

Agree. Missing the 50 Fathoms. Ultimate bad ass diver. But, I would swap Rolex Sub and Omega Seamaster places. When the 93/94 Seamaster came out it had a milled clasp and the solid/milled tank tread bracelet. The sub at the time (which I owned) was a sheet metal clasp and hollow end links. It was garbage compared to the seamaster and made rolex change their bracelet to what we know and love today. That be accounted for in the scores and history.

I’ve got several dive watches, and they all have certain appeal, but my 124060 Submariner is still the absolute epitome. It looks good with EVERYTHING. It’s built like a tank. The oyster bracelet is iconic. Every time I slip it on, I get a big smile on my face.

I have a 126610LV and the SM300 on the rubber. The perfect diver pair IMO. Seamaster bracelets are 🗑️ very true that the modern oyster bracelet is absolutely unbeatable.
The sole reason I chose the SuperOcean over the Tudor and Omega is the sizes available. My wrist is quite large. The 46mm SuperOcean on my wrist, looks like a 41mm on most wrists. This along with the relatively thin case compared to other watches in this size range made it perfect for me. Being able to get 42, 44, and 46 is a huge bonus only available with the Breitling.
The Superocean is a really nice one, even the old one

I'm sitting here with a Seiko SPB 143 on my wrist so I am biased, it would have been nice to include "diveability" into your categories, as in would you dive with it, how is the strap under water, can you move th ebezel with cold fingers etc ! Otherwise, brilliant concept , hope you can do more categories 🙂
I like the look of the Breitling more than I thought. The square hand accent and the internal timer bezel really tie it all together.
you are forgetting that Omega was the first Royal Navy proper diver watch with the 165.024 (1967-1970) then they used the 5513/17 Rolex (1971-1974) after the Omega. And Rolex was asked to do sword hands and fully graduated bezel like the Omega. so Omega should get a 10 in History, and 8 in street cred!

Omega as iconic absolutely 9 and quality 9 too especially vs Breitling . History of Omega as diver is longer than Rolex ,maybe Seamaster is not but Omega as Diver it is . Value 1 point higher!!!
I think this order is generally correct, but you have short-changed Omega a couple points... 1 on street cred and 1 on iconic... still second but it should be more than 1-point ahead of seiko.
Omega lost any street cred it had with its cringey 007 marketing.
I'm a diver.....the Pelagos 42 beats them all on just about everything from legibility, depth, bracelet, clasp, He Valve design and most importantly value!
Not a fair competition, you should have put the grand Seiko dive watch which is in the same brackets.
As a recreational scuba diver, I have an Omega Seamaster Chronograph that I had years before I was interested in watches. That thing is heavy, the bezel is difficult to operate with wet hands and the bracelet is not sufficiently adjustable even with the wetsuit extension. But for years it was my only dive watch and it’s been on well over 200 dives and it bears the scars and scratches with aplomb.
Nowadays I wear a dive computer, but I also wear a Seiko Kinetic PADI GMT Diver SUN065P1. It’s also a beast, but it’s basically indestructible and I know I depend on it as a backup. It also wears a rubber strap, which is the only strap I wear diving these days. The only other watch I occasionally wear diving is an orange dialled DOXA, because an orange dial is highly legible underwater, and because DOXA’s adjustable bracelet is leagues ahead of everything else.
I never wear my Submariner anymore. The whole Rolex marketing fiasco and risk of theft, has somewhat made me embarrassed to be associated with them.

You should've had a category design
Growing up reading the James Bond books, Rolex was the watch I wanted. When I was in a position to finally buy a new Submariner (some years ago, when you actually could), it was a case of don’t meet your heroes ☹️ Ended up walking out with a bi-metal Wimbledon Datejust II - the Submariner was too small and too uncomfortable. After finally getting one on my wrist, I had no idea what the fuss was about
Would have been perhaps more interesting to compare one of the Seiko SLA diver models which rival GS finishing and use unregulated, undecorated GS movements, but are super appealing to us Seiko diehard fans
When it comes to history and iconicness, we shouldn't ignore the fact that both, the Sub and the Tudor, as well as the Seiko, have still remained pretty much true to their initial designs, while the Seamaster 300 and the Super Ocean have changed beyond recognition - which, I think, is a pity and a bit like comparing a Land Rover Defender to the New Mini.
I couldn’t disagree with you more, it’s about innovation not stagnation, the end results and quality is all that matters, just look at our fighter jets, none of them look like ones from 60’s or 70’s.

Can’t agree more. I don’t dive but have friends that do and they wear wrist computers not watches with movable bezels and escape valves. Love dive watches, have a BB and Seiko and more, they’re great in the pool while on holiday.
I Personally think the Seiko SPB143 is more iconic than the Breitling Super Ocean but other than that, spot on with everything. Loved the comparisons

Fun video. You guys are great. I’ve recently been into Breitling (picking up the Superocean Heritage a few weeks ago) so it’s no surprise that the Superocean would have been at the top of my list. The others are similar in design, which isn’t necessarily bad as it’s an iconic dive watch design, but I really like how the Superocean took a different route. And yea, the colors scream surfing and California. 🏄

How has your Superocean been treating you? I have to admit they've been growing on me, probably Kelly Slater's fault, but saw some less than stellar accuracy reports previously.
@@nash9625 I’ve had it for exactly three weeks and the time is, to the minute, aligned with my Apple Watch. Thus, accuracy is spot-on. And two days ago a guy stopped me in the store and asked what watch I was wearing and went on to say how beautiful it was. :) That doesn’t happens too often no matter which watch you’re wearing. I’ve worn it every day and have absolutely no regrets. Highly recommended. 👍🏼

As a retired flight test engineer I can tell you Breitlings strength is in Aviation. Many of the Naval and Marine Aviators I worked with wore Breitling

Erm….in my opinion the Seiko doesn’t compare to the Breitling or Tudor but totally agree that the Rolex Submariner is by far the best diver and still remains the benchmark for all dive watches.

In my opinion, the best luxury dive watch ever is the Rolex SD4K. In terms of specs, dimensions, aesthetic and prestige I don't think it can be beat.
It's just peak watch culture to not rate dive use when discussing dive watches. You've played yourself.

I actually admire them for dropping the pretense that actual divers still rely on mechanical watches (especially those costing thousands) and accepting that this nothing more than a styling genre with some benchmark specs for marketing points.

I also love the scorecard approach, but the attributes you used are horrible.
I use these:
- History/Tradition
- Brand reputation (ok, street cred)
- Overall look/Aesthetics
- Comfort (so important)
- Quality/Features (e.g. movement, power reserve, depth rating, complications, transparent case back, lume…)
- Price (relative to my own price sensitivity)
The total score is ‘value’ so it shouldn’t be an attribute. ‘Iconic’ is a combination of your ‘history’ and ‘street cred.’
Anyway, I use my six point scorecard and have a (subjectively) handy collection.

Planet Ocean 43.5mm (rubber strap) (2020)
Ultra Deep (rubber strap) (2023)
Polaris (rubber strap) (2023)
Did a refresh over time. Had a JLC Master Compressor World Alarm (2009), Hublot Big Bang Unico (2014), Blancpain Bathyscaphe (2020) and Tudor Pelagos (2018). Terrible resale for all of them (I buy new), except the Pelagos I made money. Bang for buck crazy good, but I couldn’t put it back on after acquiring the big brother.
BTW, part of the street cred with Omega is its association with the Olympics. Agree, the Bond thing is embarrassing.
Excuse my indulgence, but we’re all watch nerds, right? I can also say I genuinely love watches for their history, craftsmanship and engineering. Flex has very little to do with it and we know 99/100 people on the street have zero clue and zero interest.

Rolex is great, but Seiko is more my price range. I have a nice Seiko Prospex diver with which I'm very happy.

Citizen is the clear winner, since it's the only brand that actually makes an affordable and capable dive watch for proper diving.
All the rest are only interested in showing off and meeting the minimum ISO ratings.
Why didn’t you test a Grand Seiko at the same level of the others?
If you ever find yourself feeling useless just remember you will never be as useless as a helium escape valve on an Omega Seamaster.
As you do in a good tender you throw the first and the last out which leaves you with the Omega. Was clear before you started the whole thing.
The categories “Iconic”, “History” and “Street Cred” have zero to do with being the BEST dive watch.
“Quality” would absolutely have to come first since a diver would be trusting a watch with their life.
And the “Value” category would be a very distant second.
And that’s it.
The other categories are just the equivalent of someone saying, “Wow…Cool story, bro.”
They shouldn’t even be a metric in choosing the best dive watch.
I immensely enjoy my Glashutte Original SeaQ. I dare to make a point that the quality of this watch is better than the one mentioned in this video, and therefore hugely unappreciated.
Would have loved seeing more objective criterias beeing part of the ranking, like power reserve, anti-magnetisme, precision of the movement, quality of the lume etc. This felt more like a collection of your own feelings and opinions. A lot of points go towards the more arbitrary categories for which there are no measures besides your own opinions. Take those away and the whole ranking changes.
How about a chronograph comparison next? Love the content guys. Cheers

While I agree GS is what you go to for quality, this still didn't deserve a measly 5!
You also went on about the rich history of the 1965 and then proceeded to completely underscore it in the "iconic" category. Doesn't make sense.

I worked in the North Sea saturation dive industry in the 1990's as a gasman and dive tech, 80% of the divers wore Rolex SeaDwellers or Subs, NO ONE wore Omega, Tudor or Breitling. A couple of guys wore Seiko
You picked the Tudor Black Bay and then say it’s not as good as the others because it doesn’t have this and that. Well, you should have picked the Tudor Pelagos 42mm because it does have a ceramic bezel, a helium release valve, a titanium case and bracelet, and an expandable clasp. It too is COSC certified, with an in house movement. And at 1/2 the price of the Submariner and a couple grand under the Omega, you can’t beat it.
Think I’d take the Superocean out of those. Looks fresh in comparison.
Odd choice of Seiko diver chaps, whilst I do own and love the 1965 re-issue (SPB143) it doesn't compete with the other watches in your line up, it's more in line with something entry level like a Certina, ORIS, Squale, Tissot etc. You should have put up the Seiko Marinemaster (SLA021, SLA023 etc) and you'd have a better representation of Seiko's ability to make a premium diver and compete with some of these Swiss luxury tools.
History for Seiko in America in regards to the turtle and the crown at 3 diver models is, during the 60s-70s these watches surged in popularity with American Soldiers and risk takers of the newer recreational activity of scuba diving. Wearing them as an affordable and typically necessary tools of the trade. There is a decorated history of usage that in this list of brands Seiko out trumps except for Rolex. Seiko 8. Rolex 9 blancpan 10.
This video is very helpful and a real comparison. I have Rolex, Tudor and Seiko dive watches. However I like my Tudor pelagos 39 most and it is the best diver watch to me.

Nothing beats a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Even with a Submariner on your arm you have to hide in an underground car park till it passed by . And that is the reason why the Blancpain didn´t take part in the competition ‼

I’m not a “special” person, I was just willing to wait for 1.75 years for the Submariner. Arrives in December. As a buyer of a Submariner I’d say the top two divers are the Sub and the Seiko.
for me 600m Omega Planet Ocean 43.5mm calibre 8900 is best looking and solid diver watch ever made, planet ocean is better than a regular 300m seamaster quality and movement wise
