  • Faces - I know I'm losing you, live England, first broadcast on April 1st 1972, this version is taken from a 2002 rebroadcast which I recorded from Digital cable TV receiver, scart connected into a Panasonic DVD recorder. Faces are an English rock band formed in 1969 by members of Small Faces after lead singer and guitarist Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie. The remaining Small Faces-Ian McLagan (keyboards), Ronnie Lane (electric bass, vocals), and Kenney Jones (drums and percussion)-were joined by guitarist Ronnie Wood and singer Rod Stewart, both from the Jeff Beck Group, and the new line-up was renamed Faces.

You have a point but there's also been a shed load of incredible but less chart or big label friendly music from '75 to the early '90s. It's vast a more varied and alot of today's music is brilliant too. There's always been alot of crap in every era but that's purely subjective.

The old people today (I'm 50 so that's pretty close) don't listen to or support new music. There's a Renaissance of great tunes coming out but they're not being promoted because the studio executives make more money by pushing the same old s*** from the same old artist just like always. The great thing about the internet is that there's new music but it's not going to be easily accessible because they don't want you to have it, just like payolla of the past you have to actually make an effort and listen to a bunch of different non commerical stuff before you can find the gems. That's because the Suits want the stuff that makes them the most money & they can control (The fact that there's not any more political songs is not a coincidence), not the best stuff out there. If you remember back in the day nobody played led Zeppelin, Zappa or The Doors on the radio, or anything else that was great at the time because that's not what they made the most money on or sent a pro war agenda. If you really care about music then make an effort to support it and try to research what is up and coming. Don't be like our parents who said it's all crap just because they didn't understand or try to find anything new.
The "system" has always repressed anything they couldn't exploit or control, let's give the next generation the support they need to explore music, fail sometimes & succeed and do what is necessary to actually rock out, not what's the most profitable!!!

I'm not an expert by any means but I've seen and listened to a lot of music both live and recorded in my 6 decades of life. I love a great extravagant high end production as much as any body but I also love the small venue experience. The music industry in general needs to get back to the basics of solid musical technique and craftmanship so vividly displayed here. the music business has swung too far to the extremes of giant stadium and arena shows with equally giant productions and matching ticket prices and have strayed away from the basics of a good sounding room with good production and a killer band playing their hearts out to a smallish audience. I think this video captures that elusive essence that we all crave - getting the wind knocked out of you by a hungry and aggressive ensemble that gives you goosebumps playing just mere inches away. The Faces were a powerhouse band that had it all but struggled in the shadows of their rivals. People forget how amazing Rod Stewart was when he was a part of a band as opposed to being the solo act with a backing band. Ronnie Wood and Ronnie Lane grinning ear to ear while having a ball and Kenny Jones drumming up a storm! Thank you for keeping this stuff alive!!

I saw this same lineup a few months after this live broadcast. I was in Wichita, KS at the time and they played at an outdoor venue, and it was awesome! The keyboard player had to borrow a Hammond B3 for the concert and it just happened to belong to my friend who knew the promoters. It got damaged a little bit during the concert and my friend wasn't too happy about it. But it got to be famous for a day!

The whole power track. Magnificent. Use it as my ringtone. It's the meaty dramatic and total anthem for every man born. Play on for this is Rod at his strutting best. Kenny displays total mastery. Prefer the studio version (Every Picture..) but like this track in any version. Scares the crap.

Brilliant performance. I saw them at a festival in Kent just after Rod replaced Steve Marriott (my teenage - and old age! - obsession) and they ditched the 'Small'. In the muddy fields, they all wore white suits ... but still looked well sharp 😂 Thanks for this, STV! 🤘
