I sold on ebay for years, my wife was making a pretty good living. When they changed their stance about siding with the seller vs standing with the buyer somewhere around 2005 or '06 - we had to quit - can't make any money for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

@@powellmachineinc Daniel I hear your pain. There are problems with going directly to someone’s website and ordering too. I recently ordered from a company in Iowa. That’s always been a 4-5 day delivery for me in middle North Carolina. After 12 days not including weekends, I called the company to ask about my package. The tracking was at a standstill all that time showing the ticket had been printed. Was to be USPS. We agreed to wait another week and see what happens because the nice lady said that they were having considerable trouble lately with USPS delivery. I received the package 5 days later on late Friday. I called the nice lady again on Monday to tell her that I had received the package. She said that she had already gotten another package ready for shipping but was waiting on my call. All was good between the company and me and they didn’t loose any money because of me and our communication.I’ve bought from them for years and never had a problem with the company. I believe in being honest and things will work out well for all concerned. I believe that YOU ARE an HONEST person and business too. The country is crazy.

I sold on eBay for a lot of years, but stopped about 5 years ago due to similar problems. I've always stood 100% behind everything I sold. When you get negative feedback, it's almost always a newbie with 100 or less feedback. More seasoned eBayer tend to be more patient. Several years back, I had a buyer over in England who bought a Panasonic Quadraphonic headset from me. After he got them, he messaged me that a small piece was missing, but still left pos. feedback. I told him if I ever ran across it, I'd send it to him, but thought it was long gone. I found it in a box about a year later, went to my PayPal account and looked up the sale. I found his address and sent it to him. Boy, was he surprised, but I had told him I would, so I did. That's the way I was raised. I still buy on eBay, but no longer sell there.

I joined eBay over 20 years ago. It was great then, however, over time, it has deteriorated into the seller's pit that it is now. Ebay loves buyers and, evidently, doesn't understand that for every buyer, there must be a seller. In the event of a dispute, the buyer wins. Like you, I will still buy on eBay, but, I'm all done getting screwed over as a seller.

Nothing can be left in the post office overnight. All mail must go. The USPS is cutting every corner they can. One carrier walks 13 miles a DAY, and some bean counter thinks he takes too long. I'd be on the phone, bring your walking shoes, you are going to spend a week with me, mile by MFing mile.

Re: Oversea shippers especially China, did you know the USPS and Fed government subsidizes them. They are able to ship packages (2kg or less) overseas and then USPS delivers the "last mile" for less than it costs you or me to deliver the same package to another state using e-packet rate. And then if you have to ship that same item back to China etc, it will cost you 10 times more. Its pure insanity...and how we the people tolerate these policies our government creates is beyond me.

For those that don't know. You must go into the post office, stand in line and make them scan your packages, then get a receipt. If you don't, you have no recourse to lost or stolen packages. The postal workers will steal them and sell the items on eBay themselves. Found out the hard way when I used to drop items off at the counter. Once a month, then once a week then three items in one week came up missing. I informed the Post Master at the MPO. Ever since I have my packages scanned with a receipt, not one has come up missing.
If they don't scan it, it's gone. No one gets in trouble, you don't get your money back. The post office will not help you, they won't do anything and assume you never brought it to them. You have nothing.
So don't set packages out for them to pick up, don't leave them on the drop off counter.
Made us so mad we would come into the PO 2 minutes before closing and have the stupid thief scan each one for us. I knew who she was by the way. It's always the loud mouth who claims that they would never risk their great paying post office job to steal packages (plausible denialability). She didn't like doing the work sellers brought in and it was obvious she had a beef with doing it.
I made her life hell for years after too.

eBay shopper since 1999 here. I always give the seller the chance to solve any issues that arise; overpriced shipping (usps used wrong class code), condition not as described (missed damage in clothes), broken during shipping. 100% sellers make it right and I leave them great feedback. I encourage sellers to include a thank you post card with a statement to contact them with any concerns prior to contacting eBay. This is where it counts. I called, explained what I was looking for and this fine fellow in the video took care of my request in minutes, transferred over to his wife, gave payment and shipping information and a few days later everything showed up in great shape, packed very well.
A pleasure to do business with, excellent products and super fast. Many times it's best to just call and order direct instead of using Ebay or a third party relay seller that will abuse their "business partner" just for the sake of "protecting the customer".

It's worse than miss management, it's a lazy class of people who have been hired to sort and move mail. I watched all this change in the 80's and of course noticed the type of people that were being hired. It's just a bunch of gov drones doing the bare minimum to keep their jobs and since it's a gov job it takes an act of congress to fire them and nothing improves, nothing gets fixed and the incompetence, theft, and laissez-faire attitude of everyone working within the system to not stick their head above the fence for fear of being ostracized.
I don't think one is better than the other, same type of people, I've had lazy UPS drivers not deliver to my home because it fell on a busy stretch of road which turns into a traffic jam during rush hour and the USPS guy didn't want to stop to drop my package off because that meant he would get back to the barn an hour later and I think they don't pay extra for that, so I had to go to the USPS depot of pick up the package.

USPS screws up my stuff all the time. A friend of mine sent me some stuff from North Carolina. 3 days later the package was within 30 miles of my house in central Alabama. The next day it was back over in South Carolina. Then it didn't move for 10 days. I had given up on ever getting the package. All of a sudden the tracking shows it's moving again and back in Atlanta. 2 days later I had it. All told it was something like 17 days from shipping to arrival. How does that even happen????? USPS just sucks!

eBay was a dream come true when I first started using it in 2001. I was able to get rid of stuff I knew had value but didn’t know where to find buyers for. And found things there I never thought I’d find.
They sure figured out a way to screw up a wet dream over the last 10 years.
I haven’t sold anything there in 7 or 8 years now. I still have things with value I don’t know how to find new homes for now. Much of it will likely get wasted eventually tossed in a dumpster.
I wish someone would start a new online “Americas garage sale” matching what eBay was like years ago.

And I agree people arent about the community or the communication anymore dealing with customers is like dealing with road rage they are just in an office chair on the eBay highway ready to shit a brick the instant something happens, “if I can have it now I’ll throw a fit” kinda attitude. Ever since the Postal Service went to “centralized sorting” things have gone downhill…
We live in Las Cruces NM an hour north of El Paso TX. A lot of our Amazon orders originate in El Paso but because our sorting facility is in Dallas TX everything travels 600-700 miles to be “sorted” and then another 600-700 miles back to El Paso followed by that hour trip north to Las Cruces…
I’ve contacted the USPS Postmaster Generals office asking about this logistical problem. They claim there “computerized, optical scanning, conveyer belt” system is faster than the old one. But every year they want a rate increase to cover higher costs of doing business. It wouldn’t have anything to do with shipping parcels all over Texas would it?..
My wife and I are retired, we don’t travel as much as our Amazon orders do. Want to go on vacation, ship yourself USPS, you’ll see a lot of the country…

USPS uses a lot of Contract Trucking companies to transfer their mail trailers around. They just recently started letting Contracts expire with the intent of the USPS now handling this. However they do not have the manpower, so they go back to the Contract truck companies "off-contract" to fill in certain runs they can't complete.
My gf is a dispatcher for a Trucking company on the East Coast that has long held these USPS contracts (decades), so I get filled in on her calls with USPS quite frequently. Her company has lost a large chunk of USPS contracts in the past 3 months and had to lay off about half a dozen CDL drivers. Also the amount of times Trucks break down carry mail is quite mind boggling. Many of these companies are barely holding on and don't put as much emphasis on Truck maintenance/repair because of it. In the past 2 months she had 3 drivers in pretty violent crashes, two of which were let go due to negligence. One of the trucks went up in flames, so goodbye to whatever Mail was on that Load.
Another Truck got stolen in a Major Urban city, while the driver was inside the USPS facility. They have cameras in the trucks so got so see some Cam footage of that from my GF. lol

Hi Daniel, I can give you a clue on how packages get lost at the USPS! When we would go over to the main post office to get trucks that were due service there would be packages left on the truck, we would have to unload the packages and take them in to the office that the truck belong to, collections, parcel post or whatever ,The Manager would tell us to just leave it on the dock, sometimes the manager would take the cart into the office! Now we got bitched at for handling the mail so we would have to go find someone a (Mailhandler) to unload the truck and it might not be someone from that office and we would see carts sitting on the dock for days because no one knew what it was and didn't care! And I don't know for sure but it might get thrown in the dumpster. Up until about 10-15 Yrs. before I retired at the end of the day Drivers would have to check and see if their truck was due for service or if there was a problem with the truck, the driver would have to unload the truck run it thru the truck wash and bring it to the garage and we would take them back. Then here comes the it's not their job to deliver trucks to the Garage or wash them! The Drivers were premaddons and we were the grease balls! But as hard as they tried they couldn't pass the test to get into the garage!! Hows that for a novel?

Kind of seems silly to get mad at every single other person (ebay, the customer, usps) when you didn't provide proper training to your runner. Most people have to learn to get a receipt the hard way amd that's okay. Just don't blame it on everybody else. The guy who got slow shipping could possibly be because you didn't start the clock on usps by getting a receipt. So they made other packages a priority. Always get a receipt. Also it's not ebays fault if other people can sell the same product as you at a competitive price. If that's the case you need to find something less available on ebay. Customize your product. When an item for me arrives at the local post office, it gets scanned as "Package Picked Up By Individual" , I haven't been there yet to get the item, I DID NOT pick it up. But the sender believes I have it in my possession. If it disappears after it's scanned but before I pick it up at the post office, I have no recourse because the TRACKING shows I picked it up. Many more stories.

I ordered on egay from you, a cam kit. And shipping took a bit BUT I just emailed you and got the info and we good. NO need to try to leave negative feedback. Just contact the seller and be good.

USPS is really hit/miss. FedEx here is TERRIBLE but, of course, independent contractors whose employees have blaring crap on the radios, red dreads, sagging pants, and clapped out/wrecked vehicles. Extremely annoying. UPS is the best partly because of being uniform in most every way.
Keep up the good work! Sounds like you’ve got the right plan going!

I used to have an IPhone repair shop and sold phones on Ebay. Several times the mail lady would scan the label and in the system it would show delivered ,not accepted. She would have her gun on the wrong setting. Instantly the customer would open a case with Ebay without talking to me 1st. But what I discovered was these seasoned buyers would use that as an excuse to ask for a "partial" refund. With the Ebay clerk backing them. I said he'll no! I'll just give them a full refund as soon as the returned the phone and they would NEVER do that. End of case. Ebay is trash and are always on the buyers side!

Same problems with Etsy. You sell a $700 item, received, but customer denies it and Etsy IMMEDIATELY gives them a FULL REFUND, and gives the seller no recourse.

Also my neighbor around the corner sent me a thank you card. It goes 90 minutes to phoenix to be delivered back to my town and my house. We live like 50 yards apart 🤦‍♀️🙄

I had zero idea that eBay had been in business for so long. All the way back in 1995!

Ebay used to work pretty well back when you could contact the buyer and send a money order. I do not mess with it now. USPS has worked very good for me. Take the package to the PO and pay the shipping and you will get the receipt. Simple.

Super like if I can give it. Coming from another Ebay (regular auto parts) seller who wants to break away too.

Its cost you more money to make a sale because of drop in ratings? Sounds a bit sketch on eBay’s part. Sounds like it could be scandalous IMO

I agree with you regarding the lousy service from the USPS. It stinks.

I live in East Texas and ordered a part from California. That part travelled through nearly more states than I have
(nearly 2 weeks). Never thought about giving bad review on ebay.

At this point, when i order parts, if something like this happens I know it's f3d3x or the post and not who i bought from. I watched them take something from an hour away in Michigan to Pennsylvania and then back to me. I feel your pain

I buy from a local coffee roaster regularly. I often get the coffee while the USPS tracing shows "waiting on package."
Even if they do scan it, they still can't track it.
