It's actually William Guest, her cousin, who sings the solo part for once (more often it was her brother, Bubba). There are videos here on YT of Gladys and the Pips performing this in the late 60s, early 70s.

It was released on a 45 record in 1969.
The latter 60s and 70s were about the Friendship Train, the Love Train and getting on board to bring people together and all people despite the struggles to do so. Mick Jagger said years ago that Music like this used to be about something lyrically while today's music is more about a beat and dance move vs. Lyrical meaning. Kind of true when you listen to these songs and this music and hear so much messaging in a great R & B upbeat song with such power. We need more of this today.

Finally a reaction to my favorite Gladys Knight and the Pips song, going way back to my childhood in '69. You both called it, the Era of love and peace (the living Christ) started in '68, and flowed right into the '70s. The Pips really shine vocally in their earlier 60s songs. You must check out "Daddy Could Swear, I Declare", and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" from '67. Another great message song from the early 70s is the Pointer Sisters' "Yes We Can Can". Their first hit single, You'll love it ❤

So happy y’all reacted to this. I have been asking reactors for some time it has such a great sound and fitting message today as it was when released in 1969. This is actually a later release but in my opinion the original 1969 release is better. If interested there is a fun Soul Train video of them doing this song.
