I think the music helps a lot too, this game generally has much much stronger beats, more recognisable music and even the visual cues are cleared than RH which can be all over the place, some are okay but a lot of it can be really unclear. My rhythm is also pretty shit but I find something like BPM really enjoyable because the music has such a strong, heavy beat and you can kinda hit that point where you're just jamming to it rather than trying to twitch react to the note

You should play Inscyption. Spoilers below: . . . One of the bosses is an A.I. and during the fight he starts to load up some of the images you have saved on YOUR hard drive. He then starts to delete them if you don’t do what he says.
There are a ton of ways to manipulate stuff like windows, files on the PC and the mouse itself. I think there are only so few games that make use of it because some antivirus programs will pick it up as a threat Maybe there are other reasons, but I have no idea what they'd be. Maybe these functions are just relatively unknown
@@trapical Replying to the spoilers with technical information: . . . To be fair, in that case, it technically just reads your files and then copies them in its own subfolders, deleting the copies rather than the original, which is something I feel is fairly important to mention considering people don't want their actual files deleted; but yeah, it's still a cool trick, and the way they go about it is arguably cooler than if they just deleted the original.
the act 2 boss music cutting out if you kill the patient is perfect, both because it's a different type of challenge due to your inability to practice the whole song at once but mostly because being able to hear more of such a banger is such a wonderful reward for improvement
Its a shame there's not more comments praising the way this game was made. With a background in music this game does a lot of neat tricks to promote 'feeling' the rhythm as the way to beat it instead of watching. Notice how many times Dan does better when he starts moving more and more of his body. Yeah, when there's many parts the visual cues become more important, but the game really tries to reinforce pattern recognition and cleverly places all the hits accept the 'boosted' ones on down beats or up beats even if it sounds like its much more off-rhythm. This game is so cleverly made and I thinks its clear to see in Dan's gameplay just how well it actually works. He improves in some areas so quickly and I bet if he went back to that other rhythm game (can't remember the name) he would do a lot better this time around.
it's actually because a lot of the cues are baked into the music! it becomes especially obvious with the act 5 music, with the freeze beats and subdivision beats! i listen to the music during work, it is shockingly easy to follow the cues! it gets to the point where sometimes i "play" the game during slow moments with no cues.
GOD DAMN FINALLY! Seeing you finally move and groove to the music in the webcam is the biggest reason you're doing way better. There is a reason a lot of musicians tap their feet and or bob their heads, it's not just because they like the music but because it's a great way to keep time and way easier to do so than just strictly focusing like you did in the rhym heaven playthroughs.
I’m amazed that a rhythm game was able to make me tear up just from the storytelling within the levels. Also great job RT! Average Man has been promoted to Above-Average Man
I love Rt's persistence and will to improve. Most TH-camrs give up in sake of just getting more content by switching to an easier mode or give up on the game in general. It's nice to see this.
I remember a funny onstream. Larry was basically telling RT to switch into Easy Mode and that there's no shame in it and RT calls him out, saying that he's not WEAK and stuff
Gotta love Rhythm Doctor, I hope there's a part 2 for the Night Stages. I really love "Wish I could write more and care less" that's probably my favourite one here.
I'm only 21:00 in and the creativity of this game is insane, and quite honestly if this is possible I'm surprised there aren't more games out there that push the limitations of just what you can do with stuff like this..
its actually really easy from a coding perspective, even games like doki doki literature club and some others have it implemented, but its just kind of a gimmicky thing to do unless its for a horror factor during a 4th wall break or for something like this thats meant to visually distract you for an extended period. (also you cant do it with games that are also on console + makes it hard to capture for content creators so it alienates alot of possible audiences, cool feature though just not practical in most scenarios even though it isnt particularly hard to do)
@@JubioHDX Technically, it's not too bad for content creators if you do things like this game does with the "one screen" mode. And you realistically could do it with console (or players that want to force fullscreen) by simply filling the background with an (optionally selectable) color and moving the gameplay window around that (including mimicking the header bar). The actual reason it's not done more is that you need a fairly simple control scheme that needs to basically be just direction agnostic buttons. Meaning that WASD, arrow keys, your mouse (or both sticks and the d-pad for controllers) need to be practically useless during those segments. And even then, you could still use them if you're not throwing the window as violently as this game does. For instance, if you're making a "flat" port of a VR or AR game, you could easily do that to mimic the feeling of moving a device. Though wanting a visual indicator of a "hidden area" (where the zoom is different to normal play, but you want to keep size ratios the same) and forcing stealth could also easily benefit.
If it goes like it did for Rhythm Heaven, imagine all the attention it's gonna bring to the game ! All the new custom levels ! We'll finally get people using the ingame syncopation mechanic instead of using a fanmade one ! (The fanmade one doesn't suck, it's pretty good given the means they had, but it's still inadequate) + there's an official level that's basically an ad for the Bits & Bops kickstarter so that's even better ! I'm very excited for this as you can tell
The fact that RT closes his Eyes to actually feel the Rythm through his Body makes me as a Musician happy, tells me he's learning not to just use visual queues given but actually listen to the structure of the Song.

Do you know what I appreciate? The option not to see the spider. Arachnophobia tends to get played off as a joke, but it is a legitimate phobia that is personally quite debilitating. It was nice to see it taken a bit more seriously and treated as a genuine phobia people might not want to interact with in their game.

The best joke in this entire game is with Richard Hugh- if using the shortening of his name, he's Dick Hugh- which, written on medical documentation, would be Hugh, Dick- Huge Dick Subtle but crude and accurate- I love this!!
Tip i discovered while playing: sometimes for SVT it's easier to count 1-2-3-4 and press the button on 3. It's harder to maintain rhythm with just two notes per "measure"
It makes me giddy to see how proud of himself RT is. Like hell yeah man (from what i watched on stream) you rocked this game, I'd trust you as a doctor :^) Very happy to see him play Rhythm Doctor, it's one of my favourites
as a longtime watcher, its so satisfying to watch you get better and better at rythm games! as someone whose also given up on ever developing rythm, its cool and kinda inspiring to watch! if you like these kinds of games, Everhood, Mad Rat Dead, and No Straight Roads are some of my favourite rythm-based games!
It’s actually kind of scary how much RT improved in such a short time. At the beginning, he could barely keep up a basic beat, but by halfway through he was keeping rhythm better than some people in my high school orchestra, even with the game flying across the screen. (Yes, some people in my orchestra aren’t the greatest - the group would probably improve noticeably if the director assigned this game as homework.)
"If you're drinking that much caffeine to function, there might be something deeper going on" Undiagnosed ADHD moment. DAMN. How did they do those window effects?! I'm deeply impressed.
The window effects are actually some of the simpler effects from a coding perspective. You have to tell the computer where to draw your window anyways so you just actually update the values instead of letting Windows figure it out. The code is probably as simple as window.Position = new Position(x, y); Doesn't make it any less cool and creative even if it's easy to implement in code. Honestly, I think how impressive it feels despite its ease in code is what's so cool about it
I think the fact the window effect is so simple to do makes it all the cooler, since it’s a very clever use of a rather underused tool. The way the game’s effects change as it moves is very clever too, the flashes, character changes and other visual spices are very well implemented to mix perfectly with the window movement. Im rather curious as to how would it look without the minimizing and movement.
So I am a percussionist so I've got to be really good at rhythm right. So it's really interesting to watch you play, and see like you relying heavily at visual cues. Because for me the visual cues mess me up most of the time and I need to listen to the auditory ones. It was really fun to watch you play this, I love seeing people play rhythm games lol.
I did not expect this! The visuals really helped Dan to actually be pretty good. I have the same problem, I think this is the Rhytm game for me! Playing Rhythm with the eyes
You should try Hi fi rush its a rhythm based beat em up, and everything goes to the beat, even cutscenes, stages/backgrounds and UI elements like HP move to the beat
RT is improving! All the visual noise is forcing him to play to the song instead of the visuals. Heck, he starts head banging- you know he is starting to get the rhythm. After this experience, he should give monkey watch another try and see just how much easier it is for him. I bet he'll be surprised. XD
@@leoultimaupgraded9914 It's actually not a hard effect to do. Applications (at least on windows) are just allowed to control their own window size and position if they want to. (they're also able to control your mouse position and various other things, but that's not relevant here) With a little bit of code you can easily make your own self-moving window :)
@@leoultimaupgraded9914 There was a game prototype I was building with this same mechanic, thought I was being unique xD Like @Hyeve mentioned, programs are allowed to move their own window. The neat part is this is possible for Windows, macOS and Linux so all desktop platforms support this :D
I think its because most Rhythm games tend to be all about playing the song as if you're playing DDR on a piano or being some alternative form like Guitar hero: It's a midi file with some plain visual cue. Rhythm Doctor makes an effort to bring that story/visual experience that RPGs or other genres have and making the game part of it pulled into the context-- like the RH games do.

I love this game so much. The act 3 boss song is a huge mood and I love it so fucking much, it makes me cry everytime. So glad you played it and actually did amazing :).
I picked this up after seeing Dan start Act 2, and I'm so glad I stopped before seeing the Act 2 boss. My rhythm is also pretty shit but I find something like BPM really enjoyable because the music has such a strong, heavy beat and you can kinda hit that point where you're just jamming to it rather than trying to twitch react to the note
All jokes aside, it’s great to see how much Dan has actually improved on his skills with rhythm games.

Right? It’s the first time I’ve seen something like that be done. It looks sick.
There are a ton of ways to manipulate stuff like windows, files on the PC and the mouse itself. I think there are only so few games that make use of it because some antivirus programs will pick it up as a threat

@@JubioHDX imo the second act is where it gets the most creative cause you get the window dance and the glitching and stuff it's so good
the act 2 boss music cutting out if you kill the patient is perfect, both because it's a different type of challenge due to your inability to practice the whole song at once but mostly because being able to hear more of such a banger is such a wonderful reward for improvement
This is probably the only game where you can't tell if the video is stuttering, or it's part of the game
There's also Eternal Darkness, probably
I’m amazed that a rhythm game was able to make me tear up just from the storytelling within the levels. Also great job RT! Average Man has been promoted to Above-Average Man
I love Rt's persistence and will to improve. Most TH-camrs give up in sake of just getting more content by switching to an easier mode or give up on the game in general. It's nice to see this.

You know RT's come pretty far

I sent that “One Shift More” song to my sister who’s a doctor.
Needless to say she shared that sentiment.
Next Rhythm game RT plays should be titled "A Man With a Little Rhythm Plays X" in light of his newfound improvement
As someone with SVT, this is exactly how it's treated at the hospital, RT would make a great heart doctor
I can't believe it. Dan's brute forced his way through so may rhythm games that he's actually gained a sense of rhythm
Fun fact: the achievement for getting S+ on bomb sniffing pomeranian is called "No Items, Final Destination"
As someone in music school, who has to clap crazy complicated rhythms for my music theory class, this is making me feel REALLY good
I hope RT plays more rhythm games. If he ever does a long/multi-stream play of one, he should definitely do Hi-Fi Rush.

Do you know what I appreciate? The option not to see the spider. Arachnophobia tends to get played off as a joke, but it is a legitimate phobia that is personally quite debilitating. It was nice to see it taken a bit more seriously and treated as a genuine phobia people might not want to interact with in their game.
Phobias are no joke. If I'm driving a bee flies into my car I almost crash in a blurry panic
@@miraveta I totally understand that feeling. Once (I don’t know how) a spider got into my car’s sun visor; when it crawled out onto the inside of my windshield I pulled over, lept from my car, and had a panic attack.

RT truly has rhythm from playing all those rhythm heaven. Who knows, maybe we can eventually see him sing the ABCs without being offkey.
rhythm =/= pitch
"If you're drinking that much caffeine to function, there might be something deeper going on"
Undiagnosed ADHD moment.
DAMN. How did they do those window effects?! I'm deeply impressed.
My ADHD has done the exact opposite, I specifically stay away from coffee
The window effects are actually some of the simpler effects from a coding perspective. You have to tell the computer where to draw your window anyways so you just actually update the values instead of letting Windows figure it out. The code is probably as simple as window.Position = new Position(x, y);
Doesn't make it any less cool and creative even if it's easy to implement in code.

Since nobody’s said it yet, Dan is looking awfully pretty. What a handsome dad.
This is actually so many steps above Dan's attempts at rhythm heaven Im impressed
RT is improving! All the visual noise is forcing him to play to the song instead of the visuals. Heck, he starts head banging- you know he is starting to get the rhythm.
After this experience, he should give monkey watch another try and see just how much easier it is for him. I bet he'll be surprised. XD
