I remember the first time I saw this series back when it aired, and being pleasantly surprised when I heard Adam West voicing Batman! That was excellent.
When "GALACTIC GUARDIANS:THE SUPER POWERS TEAM" made its ABC debut in Fall 1985,this was the ultimate and finest Hanna-Barbera production to date,bringing the "SUPER FRIENDS" to a close,since their Fall 1973 debut. the animation and character designs were outstanding,and definitely a departure from Hanna-Barbera's standard,since the animation was done overseas,it was seriously improved,especially when you look back to 1973 when Hanna-Barbera did the first season of "SUPER FRIENDS" at Eric Porter's Studio in Australia,the animation wasn't too much to crow about,but then,this was the 70s,and things (and budgets) were different back then! case in point,this was the best of the SUPER FRIENDS series,and a much better animated cartoon,that showed more improvement of DC's Finest! three years later,Ruby-Spears came along with their "SUPERMAN" series in Fall 1988 for CBS-also an impressive animated effort!
The episode showing Batman's origin - best Superfriends EVAR! This was also the show that I first saw Cyborg, so when I got a copy of the DC Heroes RPG, he was the first character whose stats I looked for. He's too cool for words.
And that is the story of how cartoons have been increased in quality trough the years, from Superfriends to He-Man, to Thundercats, to Galaxy Rangers, to Xmen, to Wildcats... until 2000s, when they become casual shit as in the 60s again.
Honestly this was one of the best seasons of Super Friends right next to the Challenge of the Super Friends, and it’s incidental that it was the closest to the comics. Adam West as Batman, seeing more every day lives of the heroes, Cyborg being such a important figure and a nice bridge from New Teen Titans to Justice League and honestly a mix of cool/sci-fi to the down to earth Everyman (with Ernie Hudson being the first person to bring Cyborg to life), the Fourth World elements, seeing things like the Justice League satellite and the new Hall of Justice, the Garcia-Lopez designs, Firestorm, the origin of Batman, etc. This was a fantastic season from top to bottom (if it had the Legion of Doom fighting the Super Friends/Justice League, it would be perfect).
I loved Galactic Guardians because of the re-designed Hall of Justice and Wonder Woman finally got a modern look. Interestingly enough, B.J. Ward provided her voice during this season. She also did the voice of Scarlet on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.
@@JD_ATX the voice director (I have to look up his exact position on the show) was Gordon Hunt, who was the father of actress Helen Hunt. I think it was his idea to cast his wife BJ Ward as Wonder Woman.
Neat how Superman bore a slight resemblance to Christopher Reeve. This was such a big improvement over "Superfriends", yet only 8 episodes? Thankfully fans wanted to see more of these heroes and less than a decade later we got Batman TAS, Superman TAS, which eventually lead to "Justice League"!
Fun Fact:The unaired pilot of JL's original lineup would've had junior members.It would have Batman,Superman,Wonder Woman,Martian Manhunter,Hawkgirl and green lantern (John Stewart).Then there'd be Impulse,Robin (Tim Drake) and a female Cyborg (presumably Natasha Irons).But the production team was trying to get away from the Super Friends thing
Jose Garcia Lopez is an amazing artist. Have you read the Batman-Hulk crossover from the 80's? Garcia Lopez penciled it, while the great Dick Giordano inked. Absolutely STUNNING art.
@@InvisibleMan542 Check out some of the comics he drew; he really captures the essence of Batman, especially Bronze Age Batman, like no other IMO. His stuff really comes alive when Giordano inks it though, IMO. They're a great team. Batman-Hulk is a great example of their work.

@Juanete1984 en efecto, hace poco más de 20 años fue una gran satisfacción ver a este Batman mejor estilizado y estas historias completamente separadas de lo que fue Superamigos. Recuerdo que la voz en español de Batman en esta serie era mucho más apropiada que la de Adam West en inglés. Coincido en que el estilo de Bruce Timm, aunque muy distintivo, puede no ser tan estilizado y agradable; sin embargo, en términos de trama e historia, nada supera a las series animadas de los 90s.

I could never understand why only 8 episodes of Galactic Guardian were produced. That's not even half a season (13). And sadly it was the last season.
I wonder if ABC only commissioned 8 episodes because they were unsure if the a more "mature" tone would alienate long-time viewers?

I agree. The seeds for JL/JLU can definitely been seen in the that final season.
Plus her boots have the white stripes, where in Super Friends it was all red.

No, he was a Titan first. In fact, there was an Anti-drug Teen Titans commercial that came out in 1983, which predated this show by two years.
