Everyone needs to listen to her story. Jewel almost died in her of a Kidney infection while living in her car. She was turned from ER to ER bleeding. She wants everyone to e-mail if they need help.Jewel gives out her e-mail at the end of video.
This almost happened to me when I was living in my car! I went in to a Walmart in Inglewood, CA and went to pee, but it came out the exact consistency of honey. I thought I was dehydrated, but I found out later through research that I was having severe kidney problems from spending so much time in the same position, sitting in my car. It's a scary thought, because my boyfriend I was with at the time didn't give a shit about me or my health, and there were several times I could've died and I wouldn't have been surprised at all if I had died and he would've left me there.
Jewel is awesome. And she is the perfect example of a strong woman. Notice its not about how others see her it's about how she sees herself. Those that see themselves less capable tend to be feminists who always fight to be seen as equal to a man. Men see woman how they see themselves. (Ok not all of us) but mostly.
I have so much espect for her. Some pretty crummy things have happend to her in life, like her mother stealing almost all her money and yet Jewel being the sweet soul that she is, just let it go and went out and earned more. She's beautiful in and outside.
Jewel, you are such an inspiration and positive motivation, I only wish that youn people nowadays would take you as their role model! Love you and your art!
@@yellowdough2001 Yeah, she was homeless right before she blew up. She was living in her car then it got stolen so she ended up homeless. Then a demo of Who Will Save Your Soul was played on the radio, and it changed her life forever. She went from homeless to cover of magazines pretty much over night in the 90s.
10:10 Can't get through an absolutely beautiful soul taking precious time in her busy life to be interviewed, without a feminist stinking it up... Damn it. 11:32 And lovely Jewel answers... 11:35 And she didn't like it one bit. Lol
I thought the same thing! Years ago I read about someone asking Jewel what her advice for female musicians was. The response was something like, 'It's the same as my advice for male musicians - you need to acknowledge whether you want to do it because you love music and art or because you want fame. You have to acknowledge which it is, because on any given day you'll need to make a bunch of decisions, and those decisions will support one side or the other.' Can anyone think of a better, more valuable, and more actionable response than that?!?!?? The way I see it, Jewel refuses to divide humanity by something as trivial as biology - she wants to recognize every soul on the planet equally as sovereign, capable and self-making - no victim playing here. That's just one of many things that make her so absolutely beautiful. She manages to radiate humanity without using empty and ultimately meaningless la di dah rhetoric.
Amazing opportunity to listen to Jewel talk beyond the means of the interviewer. Recently she appeared on Joe Rogan. Incredibly fun to watch this interview because she is so strong, eloquent, and in this inter poised, thankyou, she owns the hype.
Awesome Girl Your Testimony is amazing, I can relate alot to you. The Lord is using you as an Instrument to help others, that's my calling too xxx Remember the Bigger the Trials and Tribulations, the Bigger one's Calling
I love Jewel first and forever because of her music, was formative in my childhood, born in 1989. And now because of her intellect, and her music Still banging
I didn't have a concept of gender differences in my household either. My father never ever made my sister or I feel different in any way. I only learned that sexism existed when I was in 7th grade and our new P.E. teacher would say and do horrible things to the girls. He would split us up into boys vs. girls in dodgeball and he would play on the boys' team and encourage the boys to throw harder and harder, and would yell at the girls that we were weak. One time we came to the gym and discovered that he had locked the girls' bathroom and when we asked him why, he laughed and said, "Cuz I don't want you in there playing with your dolls". There had never been an incident or any problem at all with the girls in the bathroom. He also treated all the Mexican kids poorly and would talk down to them using stereotypes and a fake accent. It was such a shock to me because I had no concept that anyone thought of other people as less than them because of nothing about their character or behavior, but just because they were "different".
There is no better compass for the conscience mind and heart than the word of God. faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans10:17 I encourage everyone to seek God by reading and obeying his word.Knowing God starts with the new birth. Truly truly i say to you except a man be born again he cannot enter the kingdom of God. John3:3 This is a spiritual birth God bless
Sounds like if she would read the holy bible...finding a true faith and meaning in Jesus Christ is the answer...to all life's problems. Everything she speaks of is found in the bible. Strengths faith, determination, stamina, etc...enduring through trials. Nothing to do with Buddha. I applaud her drive and message but the true source of all life is in Jesus Christ. John3:16 I do understand coming from a home that experienced what she discusses as trauma.
Peggy Demeter yes! You’re right. She’s a brilliant woman though her theories may be good for a while only Jesus and the gospel trully offers and delivers what she’s trying to achieve.
Multiple ways to find enlightenment. As long as it's good in nature God or Jesus or whoever doesn't mind. Don't assume God has an ego. He wants us to be happy and to be good, not to worship Him. Assuming God needs our attention or worship to get to heaven or achieve enlightenment is perhaps man's greatest sin.

Well, she was lucky. It's amazing she reached such heights afters those lows, but what about the rest of us? Chances are that she found plenty of men to help her, bein' homeless. She was young, gifted, & beautiful. Somebody once told Roy Orbison that "a pretty woman doesn't need any money," which spawned his classic! What about the rest of us, huh Jewel? WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US? HUHHHH????
Yeah, I find a lot of her recent ventures bizarre in contrast with her songwriting. It seems disingenuous and creepy, especially because she repeats the same lines in all of her interviews when talking about it. It seems very rehearsed and I have trouble reconciling that with some of the beautiful, soulful songs she's written.
I disagree. She's always spoken about these issues through her music, poetry, books, and charities. The music industry is not what it was back in the 90's so she has adapted to the changes and found the wellness community which incorporates all of those things. Her mother also stole a lot of $ from her and she's giving her son the mother she never had. At least that's what I gather from following her career since her first album.

I love this amazing lady. She's smart, intelligent, strong, and very beautiful. Above all, she seem to be a genuinely kind hearted human being.
A shining example of a genuine woman. She's feminine, grounded, balanced, speaks eloquently yet without spouting cliches. Love personified.

I think her intelligence comes out in her lyrics. There’s a certain poetry that you don’t find in most successful songs.
