    The CZ Shadow 2 Compact is a very nicely made handgun, but it has some design features that make me not want to carry it. I break down why I prefer the CZ P01 Compact to the new CZ Shadow 2 Compact.

    Tip for CZ dis-assemble: if you put the hammer in half-cock you can then simply push the slide back and it will stop at the mark correctly for the cross pin to be pushed out.

      @@generallobster Maybe he would carry a series 80 gun, but not a series 70. Then again, are all of the Staccato pistols basically series 70 in terms of lacking a firing pin plunger? You’re comparing apples to oranges
      Any 1911/2011 carried as designed (cocked and locked) have a pretty well thought out lock work that prevents the hammer from falling and actually reaching the firing pin without both that frame and grip safety being disengaged and trigger being pressed.

    • @user-vk7jz1tc1l
      @user-vk7jz1tc1l หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      And his "laziness" counterargument is simply false. There is no "engineering" that will make a Series 80 trigger as good as a Series 70. Pretravel or creep is inherent / required for Series 80 function. In terms of equalizing pull weight, the alternatives (lighten the sear spring and/or change sear geometry, increasing likelihood of ND; or lighten the trigger spring further, increasing likelihood of failure to reset) are much worse than the risks with a Series 70.

    Yeah...this is BS. I've talked to the gunsmiths at Cajun Gun Works, and they cracked up when I mentioned this as an "issue" for not carrying the Shadow 2 (compact or full size). Bottom line is it takes a tremendous amount of force to break the hammer, safety, or sear on these. A ton more force than any drop can do. They said you can take a hammer and beat on a fully cocked hammer and that thing still won't break (easily anyway). So if drops are your concern for carry safety, you're fine with this. Even with the safety off, and you drop it, you have to break the sear for the hammer to make contact with the pin...which is also super strong. If you're worried about breaking that many things before the gun fires, you're sorta worrying about the wrong safety aspects of carry.

    • @theodorehunter4765
      @theodorehunter4765 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      The only thing I will agree with him about the Shadow 2 is that the safety is REALLY mushy. I don't know if that can be fixed, but I'd be interested in having someone make it more tactile, like a 1911.

    It's weird to me that they still haven't done a 75/P-07 compact that is optics ready and has a decocker. That would be my ideal handgun. Of course you can always send a 75 or P-07 slide off to get milled which is fine but it's an extra cost.

    You highlighted one of my pet peeves of many holster manufacturers. A properly designed / manufactured holster for a 1911 should, imho, FORCE the safety up into the safe position when holstering the handgun...thus it is also impossible for the safety to ever be inadvertently disengaged while it is in the holster. It's something I always looked for when buying holsters for handguns with external manual safeties.

    I think it's a solid way of viewing what and why one would or would not carry a specific gun. From a safety standpoint, I think it's a solid argument, especially when we are talking about EDC and we all know, we have all gotten complacent at some time or another on something we shouldn't. Me personally, I carry striker fired pistols, but I do always make note to look at my holster when I intend to holster my gun, which imo, is the best thing you can do to make sure that trigger is clear until it's fully seated in the holster.

  • @cvranger555

    A few things to consider. I currently EDC the shadow 2 compact.
    1). Even though the P01 is a "fraction" of the cost of the s2c, once you Cajunize it and add the optics cut the price will be around the same.
    2) You only engage the safety in SA mode , not in half cock mode (as per CZ instructions).
    3) To decock to half cock I put the edge of my thumb in front of the firing pin. Seems safer than the pinch method. It's not a big deal once you practice it some.
    4) The reason CZ said they didn't add the firing pin block was to keep the trigger smooth. Same as the Shadow 2. Same as 1911s.
    Good video. I agree s2c isn't for everyone. Regardless CZ guns are great.

    not carrying a handgun cause the sear could break off honestly sounds insane to me, ive never even heard of someone else hearing thats happened to anyone they know. the hammer touching the firing pin is the only way a round is going off, many have done tests smacking the back of these things and none of them go off. fitting a 1911 safety is hilariously easy so you can carry the staccato.

    For the added safety, I install the LTT striker control device (it allows you to put your thumb on the back of the slide while holstering and prevents the striker from moving even if the trigger gets depressed) on all my EDC Glocks. It's easy to install and use. And it doesn't interfere with the operation of your pistol.

    MAC; The 1911 has an inertial firing pin; meaning the pin is shorter than its channel. So, hammer down all the way does not make the firing pin protrude past the breechface. If the Shadow compact V2 has an inertial firing pin, then the concern about having the hammer down resting on the firing pin goes away, completely.
    Check the CZ to see if it has an inertial firing pin. If it does not, then your concerns are valid.

    The shadow 2 compact is still way safer than a glock and a p320. Idk why everyone makes such a big fuss about the firing pin block and then carry series 70 1911s. I get the complaint, but it's coming from people who use much more dangerous guns.

    As I came across this video, my Shadow 2 compact was nestled safely on my hip. It is my favorite carry gun. I also have a P-01. By the time I paid for the optic cut, Cajun trigger parts, front sight to co-witness and a porting job, I had more money in it than I paid for my Shadow 2 compact. I use a Shadow 2 in competition, so holding the hammer between my thumb and index finger to lower it is something I was already very practiced at. Being so used to the grip of the Shadow 2, I found the slightly different size and shape of the P-01 grip much less to my liking. I have the same slide-stop thumb rest on both Shadows. I carry the compact with the hammer half-cocked and no worries, as I have watched several people hammer on their hammer without breaking the the sear or getting it to drop as well as drop testing from shoulder height to a concrete floor. I have never found the skinny safety levers engaged when carrying, though I did install an extra power safety spring in both Shadows. I can respect your choices, but am happy with mine as well.

  • @tortol4847
    @tortol4847 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

    As someone who owns one of these here is my opinion.
    The lack of a firing pin block is a non issue for me. Carry it with the hammer down at half cock. The hammer isnt touching the firing pin and its already been tested and proven that the firing pin doesnt have the mass/inertia to ignite a primer if its dropped even in perfect drop conditions (straight down onto the muzzle).If you do manage to drop it directly on the hammer and the sear "breaks," that breakage alone would absorb a significant amount of energy leaving very little to be transferred to the firing pin.
    The safety lever concerns are valid but fixable. There is a detent but the spring is weak. You can get a stiffer spring and fix that issue. A regular cz75 safety detent spring will do. I think they made it weaker because of how low profile the lever is. You can also get a regular size safety lever. Yeah its not optimal to be "fixing" things that shouldnt need fixing but it is what it is.
    The decocking thing is overblown. Yes there is a chance for an ND but I'm not making a sandwich when i do it. The same way i have the gun pointed in a safe direction as I'm chambering it, I can safely lower the hammer with full awareness that the gun is loaded. Firmly hold the hammer and lower it. Its not brain surgery. Unless you have the finger strength of a toddler you have little to worry about.

      Still, having to carefully go from full to half cock EVERY time you first chamber a round to carry is such a massive invitation for complacency and an eventual mistake. I agree the other concerns are negligible or likely even impossible, but having a mechanical decocker eliminates hundreds if not thousands of improbable dice rolls

    I'm with you. Give me a decocker. I don't understand why CZ, of all the gun manufacturers, is not putting optics cuts on their firearms yet. It's a PITA to have to send them out for cutting, and it adds a significant amount to the price of the gun.
