Tom Cruise always makes movies enjoyable...keep bringing them.
After having watched both movies & the tv series I actually like both actors as reacher but cruise displayed a slightly stronger sense in the role to me. & i know that reacher was supposed to be physically bigger (6’5 230 lbs) I think cruise (despite his lacking height) did very well with the role & made up for the characters physical features with his performance & how he came across as reacher. The focus shouldn’t just be on the physicality (which I’ve seen a LOT of ppl do) but on how well the character comes across in the portrayal by the actor. Alan ritchson did well in the tv series & has owned that version of reacher (can’t wait till the next season), cruise for me nailed & owned the movies. Both actors did well & while I’ll anticipate the next season I’ll never stop enjoy watching the movies as cruise did good with them to. Just my elongated opinion.

Tom is an experienced and brilliant actor. Tv series….he’s a bit ‘wooden’. He’s got the size but he’s a rubbish actor.
Case in point: people are always going on about how Hugh Jackman was the 'perfect' Wolverine. I agree with that sentiment.
However, Hugh Jackman is 6'3'' while Wolverine is literally an entire foot shorter at 5'3''.
It's not about matching the size of the character, it's about matching the _feel_ of the character.

They should put a laugh button on here for comments like this one, the only part of the Amazon series that is more believable is the actor fits the part better, Alan Ritchson is an absolutely horrible actor and the writing and casting was a total embarrassment.

This typifies everything that's wrong with Tom Cruise as an actor and in the casting most of the time. (Vincent was an exception) First, Reacher is supposed to be a genetic behemoth, unusually large for a person, an atypically strong even for his size. He's supposed to radiate that as a significant part of his persona pretty much all the time. So this scene was meant to be played by someone huge who has the force of a volcano anytime he unleashes it.
Meanwhile, Cruise is unusually small. Against a bunch of kids who completely underestimate his fighting ability, like at the diner with the girl he called a professional, I can grasp how he dispatched them one by one. They were clueless creatures expecting their numbers and their assumed intimidation factor to do everything for them. But these guys are supposed to actually be capable mercenaries. There's no one Tom's size who can just dispatch this many serious bruisers this quickly and decisively. And watching him stand there and pretend he can - of course he can, but only because they're actors playing along nonsensically - in the moments leading up to this, is pathetically laughable and destroys the value of the scene.
Is Richardson so much better? I don't know that he's all that amazing, but at least he's believably large and strong and they don't give him this many professional brutes to fight at once this way.
Tom Cruise in a movie makes it impossible for me to bother with. He's always Tom Cruise, he isn't an actor, AT ALL, and it's the same thing every time.
Tom Cruise could never be Reacher ! He has to wear heels to be tall enough to get on the rides at Disneyland!

After seeing the tv show. Tom cruise just doesn't do it. He's so small that it seems unlikely he could beat up anyone. They probably made sure that the guys attacking him were small to.

I was quite upset when I saw that Tom Cruise was playing Jack Reacher. I think someone in casting was dyslexic and read the 6'5" as TC's 5'6".

Cruise could not fight his way out of his underwear. That choreographed he puts his finger in his nose to have a pick and 4 sameri's fall to the floor, I mean... Aren't ew a bit tired of that crap.

Technique....also needs mass+acceleration to create damage. His size...not plausible...nice ideas though.
Again need a laugh button, size really has very little to do with plausibility in fact big guys like Alan Ritchson are usually very slow and cumbersome in a fight...lol
