The story may have disappointed me and i consider this as my least fave FF, but i still enjoyed playing it with its open-world and the combat. And that logo revelation and Noctis' addition sure is beautiful.

I understand people dont like seeing peoples sacrifices but still they have to at that point but your right its heartbreaking i cried at this scene
What even more heart breaking is that Regis himself was the final strike... keep in mind that there are thirteen royal weapons starting from the sword of the wise, the very first royal weapon you get in the game, to the thirteenth which is the sword of the father which happens to be Noctis’s father’s sword... which was the final blow before he goes to face ardyn in the afterlife

When Noctis ask his father to trust him, I like to think that it not that Regis didn't trust in Noctis but he wanted to defy Noctis's destiny more than anyone. It could also be the reason why he tried to make peace with the empire even if he knew it would fail. He tried his best to protect Noctis as a father would to protect his son.

Honestly that line always bothered me. It really doesn't seem to fit the moment. Regis is hesitating because he doesn't want to kill his son and Noctis is pushing him to do what must be done. Like you said, it was never an issue of trust in the first place. I think a better line would have been "It's okay dad....I've made my peace. I'm ready now."

DevilHunter1994 In the Japanese dub, Noctis actually said in literal translation: "Dad... I will leave it to you" which in a way makes more sense than the English dub, since it doesn't imply that Regis does not trust Noctis
Yup... He just couldn't do it, so Noct basically said:It's OK, dad. It has to be done. And just a wonderful detail - when Noct starts to lift his head Regis strucks him. He couldn't bear to look him in the eyes one last time before killing him. If that ain't utterly heartbreaking I don't know what is. What a cruel fate.

I think everytime he nears death he hopes he dies but this time he cant revive.
He was just tired from the fight. Why would he be scared in the beyond when the gang is behind Noctis or try to fight back if he wanted to die?
His episode is very clear that he wanted Noctis dead and the world in eternal darkness.
Say what you will about this game, this ending made me appreciate all my friends that are still with me. Such a tear jerker lol

The line is so much more powerful when you realize how far Noctis has come. He started out as a naive prince who just wanted to be happy with Luna. Then he lost everything. His home, his father, the love of his life, everyone besides his three friends. And it's because of them he grew and matured into the King of Kings. He claimed his birthright and was willing to die for everyone.
YES. ALL OF THIS. It is no longer a weak, naive boy speaking through the mouthpiece of Noctis, it is a man who has been tempered by the tribulations thrown at him by a life shaped by his birthright.

I’ve never sobbed so hard at a game ever. FFXV is flawed but you grow to love these boys and it was so emotionally devastating to watch that final scene.

To anyone asking. The bros didn't die, the campfire scene is actually a flashback to a previous campfire which wasn't explained until, as you can see, the ending itself.
Luna and Noctis ARE dead, the ending is symbolic as you can see from the logo, they both go to their peaceful slumber, you can't even say it's afterlife it's just a symbolic way to explain they are forever in death (ofcourse, you could say they ARE going to be together in afterlife, but that's not the point of the scene).
Noctis sacrificed himself to end the lucis line, save the world and end the deaths of other people, as it suggested many times along the game, so many people die for noctis, now it's his turn to die for the sake of Others.
Ofcourse, this is my now favorite ending in the series without question.

yeah, i mean, it can be the afterlife and there's nothing to prove it wrong but the fact that the picture that they chose is the one of slumber, peace, sleep...can be interpreted a symbol of a peaceful death, reunited in a last journey to the afterlife. I mean I don't feel they would celebrate a new life in the afterlife with the image of sleep.
It just seems super stupid for them to have killed the other three off screen and seems way more likely that it was a flash back to the campfire they had right before they set out to the city.

you can see noctis puts his ring on WHEN he gets to insomnia, so it's before they get to insomnia.

This is Japan’s version of a happy ending, dying honorable. Ignis’s story gives an alternate ending that basically wipes out all the death and makes us Americans happier

The scene with Noctis and Lunafreya sitting on the throne with the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy theme playing and the title “Final Fantasy XV” cane up made me cry more than the campfire scene
Noctis means Night in Latin so when he dies it also ends the eternal night. The symbolism is so great.
This holds even more meaning knowing Luna means Moon ❤️

If there’s one thing that comforts me about Noctis’ death is that he died a man. Died a King. He may have been fated to die, but when his time drew near he faced it head on.

I loved and hated this ending. It was a big shocker and I didn't want it to end the way it did after that great journey. But after watching it a couple times, it's very fitting for the story and a great ending at that. What an amazing game.
Marwan Polus I see it as he had to do it to bring the world peace, and that he is happy in the afterlife with lunafreya and his father.
Strife Right, that's why it was great. No other FF protagonist did this in the end. But I loved the group together and knowing their time together ended afterwards is kinda sad.
In FF1 the heroes of light literally wiped themselves from the timeline, just saying :P
But in this game
it was mainly noctis that had to do it for himself and end a short sad life, I think it's more sad than 1.
Strife Also, FF15 characters had personalities that you could get attached towards. FF1 was what you made of it, so yeah FF15 was probably sadder.

In my 22 years of gaming, still one of the only games that got more than just a subtle teardrop out of me. I was thoroughly invested, and these moments sparked some of the most emotional feelings I've ever felt from a game. And I'm not one to get overly emotional, especially toward a game. I loved the journey, and was left with a bittersweet ending.

Hell yeah! I am actually 22, but I can tell you I've been playing since I was little.
Even tho many games made me cry like hell, this one definitely gets the first place. It was so different, so emotional, the part in the camp when he says "I love you" to his bros breaks me like nothing ever had. And when I played Ignis' episode, OMG. He held his hands just like he was little, Ignis knowing it would be a forever goodbye...
This game for sure stands as one of my favorites without any doubt. Really loved it.
@@andreasolaquesada1736 The campfire scene without a doubt is one of the biggest swells in character development and emotional storytelling I've seen in a game. Nothing quite comes close to bittersweet closure like that moment did. And then to have the fight still ahead, yet to come, was really awesome.

Ardyn, having lost to Noctis, is finally able to voice his greatest and most deeply hidden fear - that even THIS doesn't mean the gods are done with him yet and there's still more torture in store for him.
And Noctis, bless him, understands and forgives Ardyn. "This time... you can rest in peace." Reassurance for a traumatized soul that's suffered so much.
Noctis became a good king, able to offer his hand in empathy even to the most broken and downtrodden of the Lucians.

Its because you werent playing a game, you were part of journey... it still hits the ending, the fact that nocits had to sacrifice because of his ancestors and the gods he believed in, after playing episode ardyn the ending hits even worse
Was there even a world left to save? Ardyn had a decade of free roam and seemingly destroyed the world. 10 years without sun and almost everyone else should've died of starvation.
Well every human was gathered either at lestalum or hammerhead, so there are still humans left which meant there was still a chance to save the world.
I don't think Ardyn really wanted to destroy the world.
Perhaps he came into the conclusion that the Starscourge would never go if the Crystal kept on existing, plus he had this immortality curse to deal with(which IMO was starting to take a toll on his sanity).
So throughout the story, Ardyn refined Noctis' resolve by stabbing Luna, and playing all these mind games with him so he could goad him into killing him(both in the Physical and Spiritual realm), and then sacrifice himself to destroy the crystal and eradicate the Starscourge forever.
So this whole revenge thingy might have been a bluff on Ardyn's part, to trick the group, the Astrals and the Crystal into thinking that he was indeed crazy and wanted revenge by destroying the world.
Basically, there were two conclusions to this, Ardyn was freed from the curse and he could finally rest in peace, and world was saved from the Starscourge.
Sure, he could have told Noctis, and the party his plans, but then the Astrals and the Crystal would have caught wind of them, and refuse to cooperate(I mean come on, can you convince a god to sacrifice himself to save the world, and abandon his rule?).
Mind you, that this is all speculation.
God damn I didn't think of it like that, thank you for that opinion.

I finished this game last Saturday. I'm pissed with Square-Enix! Square FUCKED UP with the story of the game! Fuck The Dawn of the Future! A canon final in a book?! SHAME! All of this should be in game! It's so frustrating!
@@HwoarangGamer Yeah it is sad. After Tabata left suddenly they canceled these dlcs and published them instead in a book. A shame really. I read they did this because the other dlcs did not sell well and they wanted to focus on other projects.

I was crying throughout the ending, but when they showed the throne room decorated for the wedding, and then Luna in the wedding gown, THEN THEY BOTH TURNED INTO THE LOGO??? I was inconsolable. Such a beautiful game. I've had it since release, And I've just never been able to stick with it. But I'm so glad I stuck with it this time.
God, the first FF that ends in a total tragedy. I love how Luna and Noctis closed their eyes in the final scene. One of the best and most underrated FF. It has become the most favourite one to me. Its themes are so mature and relatable.
It truly was their Final Fantasy...
It wasn’t a true tradegy tho, cause Noctis achieved his goal n saved the city. And in the afterlife he is reunited with Luna. That is the best happy ending you could have in the story they laid out cause the rule is to beat the main villain he had to make the sacrifice. A tradegy would have been Noctis dying without affecting anything, the city left in darkness.
The fuck have you played ffx? The World may have been saved but it ended in a tragedy. Obviously the sequal did change it but still.

The 9 doesn't have a real happy ending because Vivi died at the end, and as Garland said in the game the two planet, terra and hera are going to destroyed each other soon, it's inevitable, and a new crystal of life will appear, we can see this after the credit of FFIX, so basically everybody died in this game too ahah
just finished this game (I know I’m late) and wow. Such a wonderful experience. Never have I played a game where I grew so attached to the four protagonists. I waited every day to sit in my couch at evening to play and laugh, cry and joy with them. This ending made me cry, and I’m happy I did because games lately started to bore me, but this captured me. Such a fantastic journey, love this game.

Even Ardyn’s brother was a pawn used in Bahamut’s game on lies and deceit. As much as I like Noct I was in 100%agreement with Ardyn. Dude got screwed by the gods and was expected to just take it
Ending absolutely killed me. It was good though. It definitely left me shook more than most any other game I've played.
Quri King I 100% agree. The only other game to come close was Halo 4 when Cortana died... until I played Halo 5. Then they brought her back and made her the villain.

It's been months since I finished this game and I'm still fucked up, it's almost as bad as a breakup
The ending didn't grab me but I think the game story as a whole there's still a lot of missing story that has fucked me up (in a good way) and I'm ready for Royal Edition in March to complete the circle a little, if not completely
@Jesse Holm It's just a game, so what? An emotional movie "is just a movie", but that doesn't make it less emotional! If a story is emotional, it doesn't matter if it's in a game/movie etc, it still is emotional and hits hard.
“Walk tall my son.” Said a father who knew what was going to become him, to his son who didn’t know a thing and may have been just a bit bratty but still loved his father even thought they both knew he wasn’t ready to ascend to the throne yet. Was powerful even though it was the beginning of the game.
“Walk tall...my friends” Said the son of the now late king who was finally ready to take his rightful place as the king of kings and banish away the darkness and evil from the world. Even though he sacrificed himself, he knew he was ready for it. Very powerful.

When I first played this game. I was sad to hear what the crystal god had to say. I knew what is going to happen to him in the future. Before I made it to the crown city I knew he's going to die. Because I heard the very upsetting music at the end game. After I beat the final boss of this game I walked in the throne room and heard super very sad music and knew I'm about to die in less than a minute. As soon as I see the royal arms come out of me I knew how I'm going to die playing as Noctis. Prediction of death was 20+ seconds in the future. The royal arms are a big giveaway for the cause of death of stabbing my self playing as Noctis.
Seeing this made me feel very sad that the character I was playing as is Prince Noctis that's about to become King died before he had a chance to be crowned King. Do you know that the first two letters of the first name Noctis is the first two letters of my real first name.

Many people complain that Luna and Noctis aren't together during the whole game, but I think that's what make Luna's death and the final scene more meaningful and impactful. The fact that they don't get together until the after life is tragic, and... At the same time kind of beautiful.
I don't think I would get so emotional with the final scene if they would have gotten together during the game...
I really love the part when Regis hesitate to kill his son. How he didnt want Noctis fate ended like him but in the end he knows he had to do it. As Noctis asked his father to trust him and slowly try to look at his father and he quickly killed Noctis. He knows if he hesitated he dont have the will to kill him. That some fatherly love there.

He isnt attacking noctis he is entering the ring of lucii and giving it more power. Kinda odd symbolism but like.. the symbol is noctis learns from all the past king's wisdom and he bears all their bad karma.

Not to mention, all their weapons came out of his body in the afterlife. And the last sword looked real. They probably found him sitting stabbed to death.

Finally someone, who got to that point. Noctis was well protected and trained for 20 years only to be killed by his ancestors. Most horrible ending in ff history. I cried rivers during the last camping scene, what a waste of time (not talking about traveling into the past and that stuff). His friends even didn’t complain, were acting like always… poor philantropic Noct. Storys mainly about (not changing) fate and sacrifices are not good for me, i think.

That's why in one trailer Regis was crying and holding his son close while a 3 or 4 year old Noctis was quietly sleeping. Sleeping is often used as metaphor for death in this game, like Noctis and Luna eventually nodding off after their kiss in afterlife or even the logo itself. Regis knew that from the beginning about his only son and it broke his heart.
For what I’m used to in a Final Fantasy, this game may not have checked all the boxes, but the ending sequence was something it nailed. Made it worth the experience!
Man, seeing Noctis do the "SITTING POSE" on his throne gave me goosebumps; albeit in a lighter setting, it will always be his iconic pose from VERSUS to XV for me. 😭

I must say this games ending got me fucking emotional, you formed a bond with your 3 friends, pretty much became brothers and in the last campfire scene, gah damn....right in the fucking heart.

i have 23 and i proudly say that my eyes were wet. I never felt so many emotions in a game. When luna dies i was pretrified the whole night even after sleep, and when noctis die, the wedding and the "last campfire" i almost cried.

I tink I learned to love them cause I finished all the sidequest and did mostly everything when I beat the game, you kinda grow a bond with them all. there is even secret scenes where you go 1 on 1 with each of them and talk about personal things.
I don't get all the hate for this ending. I thought it was a great ending. In fact, the best ending in a FF game for a very long time.
It makes the ending even better if you're able to read between the lines. Regis and Luna knew from the get-go what Noctis's true fate was; to give up his life to save the world and rid the world of daemons for good. This is why Regis was always so solemn about Noctis's duty and didn't want him to bear that burden. But, it being Noctis's fate, he had no choice. And, when you think about it, Noctis wasn't being groomed to be king; he was being groomed to die.
This knowledge also makes the whole brotrip thing hit even harder as we see the four friends bond and grow as the story goes on, without them having any knowledge of their journey's true purpose. I also believe there's a lesson to be learned from when you get to pick *one* picture to take with you before you enter the throne room. That lesson is that as I went through the 150 pictures I had decided to save over the course of the game it's that it's the small things in life that matter and should be cherished.
Lastly, Noctis's and Luna's afterlife/dream-like sequence made the whole ending in my opinion. It was beautiful, and it showed that all the two ever wanted was to be together and rule Lucis peacefully.
A beautiful, bittersweet ending no matter what the haters say. Thank you SE for this great game. Now, off to continue doing post-game stuff!
Also, we seriously need a DLC where we get to use older Noctis because that is the best male design in any FF game ever. I wanna kiss him. Coming from a straight guy. I tried using the kingly raiment on younger Noctis but it just doesn't suit him.

Janoosen I kind of wish that the team will get an author with experience in Final Fantasy light novels to write an after story, summarizing how the world of Eos and the kingdoms rebuild after the Deamons were purged and the light was restored to the world. They should also made some short stories of the surviving characters lives in aftermath of Noctis' sacrifice; Cor, Iris, Cindy, Cid, Talcott, Areanea and Biggis and Wedge.
It might sound a bit too far fetched but it will be better if they make a prequel, sets place 2000 years before the story in Final Fantasy XV. be it in a novel, Manga or game but good enough to clarify some answers.

the build up in the soundtrack at 18:50 onwards always gets me, I love how much importance it adds to the scene. beautiful game with a beautiful soundtrack. Confusing at times, but none the less it was a very enjoyable game. This one holds a special place with me, alongside FF7/8 and 10/10-2 :D

That 15:45 transition when Regis appears and does not/cannot face his son and when the music starts playing is - in my opinion - the single most moving scene in the game (granted there were a lot). I can't imagine Regis raising his son up KNOWING he was to die, and by him too. Noctis is a tragic character but Regis is very much as well.
The swords and the strike represent truth and learning and maturity, to prepare Noctis with his battle with the darkness in the afterlife. Basically they are gifting Noctis strength and wisdom, symbolized as tough experiences or being hit by a sword.
It still confuses me how literally no one told Noctis this. No one warned him.

I played and finished the game on 2016. And after 6 years, i played it again with all the dlcs, updates, corrections, additions, etc. Still what a blast! Even had more fun! and man oh man…. the ending still left me broken. Damn it Mr. Tabata!!! Now only left is to read the book “Dawn of the future.” (Already on delivery). Can’t wait!!!

It's the same theme in a lot of Hollywood movies. A savior saving the world. I was thinking same about Yahushuah vs Gadreel pronounced as God-ra-el (Satan's real name recorded in the book of Enoch). Yahushuah went to where Gadreel was located when he was dead for those few days before being resurrected and took back the keys of death. Now Yahushuah holds power to life and death and no longer belong to Gadreel. I always imagined that something similar happened like in the FF15 ending scene.

The final scene in the throne room at 15:00 has to be my favourite in the game. The music, the flashbacks, coming full circle to where things began... everything is perfect.
There's so much emotional subtlety to this scene. I love how Noct and his father never make eye contact, almost as though it's too difficult for Regis to bear witnessing the fate of his son. When Regis takes up his sword at 17:30 to make the final strike, Noctis is looking at the floor. Regis hesitates unable to deliver this final blow... Then just as Noctis starts looking up, Regis strikes, almost as though seeing his son's face and making eye contact would be too much to bear and he would not be able to fulfill his destiny and make that final strike. FF Forever!
Now that I look at it, I really do appreciate that scene so much more. I've already lost enough tears to the ending the first time, and now here I am again.

Exactly...that scene ended it for me. I held my tears up until that moment and then broke... And haven't stopped until the end credits. Outright tragic. The only game that made me cry. And I hadn't cried for any reason years before that moment.
The game may have it's flaws, but i like something that is new from this FF:
1. It's not turn based. A fresh start, although someone may disagree.
2. The Final Fantasy Logo changes Ingame (after you completed it)
3. The MAIN protagonist dies (Tidus is not count since he's back, Squall's condition was a cliffhanger)
What i really wish in NG+:
1. Play as Young King Regis.
2. Noctis in an Phantom (Astral? KOTR?) Knights armor.

I also heard about other theory that originally the woman on logo is goddess Etro since this game used to be FF13 versus. Now it's seperated from FF13 family so they changed story and make her become Luna and add Noctis at the end.

I think considering how Ardyn isn't really trying to fight back, I like to think that he thinks Noctis will try to *save* him if he doesn't establish himself as the absolute terror that he is. Ardyn wanted to die, and the only person who can help him achieve that is Noctis, so he has to make sure Noctis has to want to fight Ardyn to the death.
I'd say 50% of this fight is that, with the other 50% being he really hated his brother and his bloodline.
I truly believe this too. I think he definitely wanted to take out the bloodline but more importantly wanted to die. He had been carrying his burden for so many years.

The rest of the bros didn't die... They survived the attack of all those daemons in Gralea, and they weren't even in their prime. Ten years later they're absolute bosses, and badass Ignis is back. Of course they could handle a couple of daemons while Noctis was fighting Ardyn. They're the ones who will rebuild the world.

They died lol. in final battle we can see noct, regis, luna and bros. we know that regis and luna are dead, noct is dead, so that means bros are dead as well, otherwise they wouldn't be with them together.

Final Fantasy XV was a masterpiece, and my favorite game of all time. It is the only game that I’ve played multiple times, and still felt compelled to play. Characters, storyline, and themes were off the chain. And anybody looking for the meaning of what it takes to be a real man, tidbits can be found in this game. Sacrifice, brotherhood, and struggle are what make great men, and all three can be found in the game. Awesome game.

The focus of this game, wasn't relationships between Noctis and his father. That's why they made the anime episodes. I don't understand how you see that ass a problem. If anything, it's dope, because they went all out, and created the episodes and the movie.

From what we heard from the time it was still FF Versus XIII, here's what the story was supposed to be like:
The kingdom of Lucis was plunged in eternal darkness...but no one cared, for it was a society that worshipped Death (Etro). Indeed, people who went through near-death experiences had been given a small glimpse of Etro's power, allowing them to do the kind of things we see in the actual game. Noctis was one of those people. He was also the heir to the Royal Family of Lucis, which operated more like a mafia than an actual monarchy. As the holders of the last Crystals, they had basically the rest of the world under their thumb. Another person with the powers of Etro was Stella, and she was, originally, supposed to be the Final Boss. Indeed, the attacks on the kingdom of Lucis were motivated by Nifleheim, which actually wanted Lucis to share their power with the world instead of dominating the world (at the time, Lucis was the only "modern" kingdom in the world, the rest being more medieval like.)
So originally, you were supposed to be the BAD GUY of the story!! And if you remember well the very, very first trailer of Versus XIII, we see Noctis sitting on his throne, alone and depressed, waiting for waves of soldiers to repell single-handedly. That meant that he had actually achieved supreme power...and was more alone than ever since, having killed Stella, he had lost the only person who could understand him, the only glimpse of light in his world.
And instead of this really original and interesting story? We get a cheesy love story and a generic chosen-one adventure...

I just beat the game, loved the game in general but the final boss, ending and story missions mostly were ok, left a bad taste in my mouth like chapter 9 and 12 or the leviathan and final boss battle or was meh. The side quest and free roam is where this game shines.
wiseguy240 Winston Thing is the lore and world of Xiii was one of its best parts honestly, so dropping the fabula nova chrysallis universe was a bad move imo. Especially when they already put so much work into the story, them having to revamp the world may have contributed to the game being slightly rushed. I'm happy with what we got, but I honestly thought the mythos of type 0 and 13 is pretty great. In XV now as far as the gods go, Ifrit is bad, while all others are good when proven worthy. Was a fair bit more complex in XIII, but the whole starscourge thing was fairly interesting at least, with ardyn becoming impure due to it and getting rejected by the gods.
***** I wholeheartedly agree it should have stayed in the FNC. The starscourge resembles chaos from the FNC their are also parts with crystal shards floating around like the FNC. Funny part is that the astral aren't really gods the game brings no detail on them either other than they created the planet and left and the astrals had a part in it.
FandeJay i really want that ff, i mean, i liked ffxv, but it is not what i expected to be, i was expecting more, i hope they will on a future produce that game as a spin-off of ffxv, i need to have that kind of tragic story so i can name it final fantasy

me as 42 and playing ff 1-15 crying in the end of the story thinking a bit and realizing when i was 7 years old played final fantasy one in floppy disc and memories trough the years even made me more epic to think back in the FF History, im not gamer anymore but if i would choose one to play forever long this would be Final Fantasy.
This ending hit me hard, it might be the best ending in the final fantasy franchise, man I love Final fantasy XV.
I can't believe people seriously didn't like this game. I thought it was an amazing piece of art, and most importantly, it was fun to play. I'm captivated by the story and love this universe, and I hope we get to see at least mentions of these characters in future FF games. I guess those that don't like the story, just don't understand it.

You have to watch Brotherhood and Kingslaive to get a better understanding of the game in my opinion. But I agree one hundred percent. So much beauty in this game. Noctis is definitely my favorite FF protagonist, followed very closely by Terra (FFVI).
He accepts his role and his fate. And carries himself with dignity and humility knowing very well of his outcome. Respect!
@@telat.6638 no, I've played several FF games. This game just fails on many levels that a game that was hyped since 2006 shouldnt have failed on. Combat is a boring chore, you have to look outside the game or buy DLC for the story to start being decent, and The world feels empty. Id actually say "FF" fans who liked this but not the others really arents FF fans. The game is average on a good day.

A wonderful detail: Somnus starts playing when you start the final mission, but with lyrics. I was in denial that Noct will die, but the song started and I heard the word: tragoedia... I just felt it - This isn't gonna end well at all. I went through the mission feeling on edge with utter despair looming over me. What a wonderful last chapter. Probably the best ever.

I mean she talked more with nyx ulric in a short time than with noctis in years
