Yeah I did the break down this last year when I did taxes, and I was appalled. I am done, ready to go back to a regular job. I won't have the freedom of schedule or avoid standing on my feet, but I will actually make money. I actually went in the red this year, which means I paid DD to deliver food for them. I've got two cars sitting with major issues that I can't afford to fix right now. DONE
I went through the same thing last year. I was barely above minimum wage and that was before taxes and expenses came out. Ditched gig work for a W2 job and ended up doubling my income. While I miss the illusion of freedom that gig work gave, I wouldn't go back.
It is scary but the ways to do better at the end kinda made it a little less stressful to think about thanks for the video
Multiple streams of income needed to survive this economy.
F/T W2 job = Main Gig.
P/T 1099 job = Side Gig.
Stack the odds in your favor.
@DoorDashing
Thanks for the info...
Car problems are what made me stop dashing for now. I was having things go out and getting towed so I stopped going out cause it wasn't working out anymore.
Get a F/T traditional job.
Then Dash again in a fianced car just to pay of car & insurance.
Just an idea side gig should compliment a main job 🤔

How about getting an e-bike? Some of them go up to 40mph and look like normal bikes

Great vid. Before doing DD I ran the numbers several times. I set aside 30% for the expenses and taxes.
Thanks!
You keep $3 to $5 per $10 generated Side Gig work is meant to compliment a main income job or business.
It is not sustainable or perpetual.

I've been driving for a month, never made more than $17 per hour
Is that active dash hourly wage or the amount you make just being on the app?

You’re better off working at a job that pays $14/hr. Your car will thank you
We could use experts like you, Moore. You are very knowledgeable.
Thanks! I appreciate that!
I noticed that DoorDash will quickly take down your acceptance rate when you don't take an order whether you click decline or not.
Right! My first day dashing made me think okay not bad I made 200.00. Now I can’t even make 100.00 in eight hours.
Are you allowed to log off or pause, in case you want to go use the restroom or pause for a day? In case you get driver fatigue?
Any time, help and patience is very much appreciated. ✨️
If you think logically it’s threats and your working as slave!
@@maylin1986yes. You can "pause orders" and take a break whenever you want.. for a bathroom break, lunch, etc.
Great video bro
Thanks man
Great vid, and nice math breakdown. I would like to challenge the idea of working whenever you want and being your own boss. I think drivers have to select certain times based on peak food delivery. For instance, Friday evenings as opposed to Monday or Sunday mornings. Market demand would have an influence on when a driver picks their hours. Also, is the driver the boss, or the app the boss? It seems like the app gives out the work. One additional expense is gig driving insurance. Regular insurance typically does not cover gig drive work using personal vehicles.
In CA it’s not worth it right now because gas is between $4-5 a gallon. 😢
Cash basis accounting, gas is a sunk cost but a good metric for efficiency and productivity. Record expenses when incurred, more reasonable to classify as vehicle repairs and maintenance allowance then subtract from account as expenses are incurred.
Videos like this need to go viral when people see that "$30/hr" doordash claims drivers make.
Great video in breaking down the math and showing how much DoorDash drivers actually make! 👍
People believe the $30/hr figure, and then more drivers flood in so the average wage drops. If I did gig work, I'd tell people that I was just scraping by.
DoorDash is a publicly traded company so they need more drivers & customers 🙄 they don't much worry about drivers getting paid just the stock price.....
Just Business sucks for non vested non Business owner.
@DashingDiary
That’s why I’ve been thinking about doing Walmart or something like that during the week and then on the weekends. If I got free time I can do through delivery because even though I have an EV, I get free charging at work during my day job but they go through tires like crazy it’s it’s all the same thing, I’m putting in a lot of hours sometimes and I’m not making it
My market usually tips well, but the problem is that restaurants around me NEVER have orders ready. I can accurately say my average wait time is around 6 minutes. This makes it really hard to do more than two orders within the hour when 20 minutes is spent simply waiting. If they always had stuff ready I’d easily average $30/hour.
I two weeks ago I dashed on Sunday and it didn't appear or get paid out until last week, then I dashed on Sunday again and it didn't appear until this past Sunday but I never got paid for it. When I contacted them they say I got paid. Smh
Finally your this video tells it like it really is
i just googled 2016 chevy cruze and yes although it get 30mpg combined it only gets 26 mpg in the city which is like 99% of deliveries. not the worst car for the job but def not the best
Catch cha next video ✌️
I use a electric scooter no gas / tires 100 $ for a pair / no oil changes / brake pads 10 $ a pair / rotors 40 $ a pair if ya ask me it’s the only way to get ahead ya just need one that gets great range and power though
OK I gave this video a thumbs up because it didn't try to paint the super rosey $30pr hr picture (lie) that I was given when I tried gig work. Ist $20pr hr is not uncommon in many areas but as an average it is in many areas. Sure in big cities yes but, IMO not in many if not most mid size or smaller cities. In my area a $17 pr hr average earnings (if you gave it your all) would be about the best you could do. 2nd what was left out of this video was car payments, Insurance and depreciation which are all major expenses. And understand when I say "depreciation" I'm not talking about wear & tear, depreciation while related is a different thing! So if you accept his figure of $20pr hr working out to a real $14.83pr hr (and I do) then readjust for $17pr hr and subtract for car payments, Insurance and depreciation you'll be lucky to make $10pr hr which is why I gave up on gig work.
I haven’t broke a $100 this year on dd yet. Flex is my main app $800 to $1200 a week before expenses but don’t have to deal with sitting around and 8 trash offers in a row. Dd doesn’t want to pay customers nor customers which i understand that but dd can smd

DD is fine if you want to generate some quick cash for something but in the long run your betting against the house. You will wear your car out, not to mention the risk you are taking in regard to car accidents, and if it is your fault you had better be sure you informed your insurance company that you are using your car in your business of delivery, you might not be covered if you don't, then you get sued and have courts and lawyers to deal with and .... A regular job is much better than sacrificing your vehicle and maybe financial future to Door dash who controls you whether you realize it or not.

@2:02 I made 136 in exactly 6 hours online with 83 miles driven Saturday night. Top dasher with alcohol, pizza and prioritized for shopping. Not sure when you last paid for an oil change, but it costs 75-120 here using Mobile 1 Full synthetic. However, Mobile 1 Full synthetic is guaranteed for 10,000 miles so you get way more miles per change.

Doordash app claimed drivers in my area make $22.50. I signed up. I learned quickly that they lie because Im at $17 ish an hour in the Fort Myers Fl. Area and Im a top dasher and back to Uber Eats
Started Dashing last Friday. Did like 70 dashes 100 completion high 90$ on the rest.. Made top Dasher.. Didn't hook up back account to my account was waiting till Monday. Come in from Dashing Sunday night early Monday morning. Go to sleep wake up someone hacked into my account. Haven't had access to my money or the ability to continue Dashing. Thank you for sharing, started last friday as well In buffalo ny, definitely going to probably start cashing out every couple days so I avoid losing my earnings.
Gas is 4.19$-6.50$ a gallon in sac ca march 9 2024
I’m a new Dasher and I’m still trying to figure out if I should be using the pay per order or earn by time feature. I’ve tried both but not sure yet which is better, any advice?
Pay per order obtain & retain Top Dasher as well 70% AR
Also F/T W2 job or a Business as main income stream.
@DashingDiary
Stop messing up your car and get another job because dd is not worth it
Totally depends on the time your Dashing. If it's busy with good orders, Per order is Definitely better.
If it's on the slow side or you're just trying to raise your AR then by time is good.
Even when I'm trying to raise my AR I'll often still do 'by order'and not by time and accept all but the most laughably not worth it orders.
But generally speaking it varies by the day/shift which is more worth it to the individual.
@@DeanHorn-wv4meit can definitely be worth it.
Do you think DD would be a good option if just need an extra 200 or so dollars a week? Is part time better than full?
Yes
It's not great but you can probably pop 2⁰0 a week idk really because if you live out in the bush or something like that
Yes. Good option.
I have a full time job and only want to do this to make $100-150 per week. Is that do able? I’m in Florida.
I have another question? Is the Dash Direct card and the Uber pro card with the instant pays worth it? Cause I just get a weekly payout on all my delivery apps.
My wife has it and it works just fine with her..she even withdraws money at cvs and walgreens for free from the atm
I do the same. Dd card funds instantly after dashing. I go to CVS/Walgreens to withdraw it, go to WM and deposit it to my One card which earns 5% until I need it to pay a bill with. Then I go back to CVS/Walgreens pull it off that card also for free and deposit it into my "bill paying" acct. to pay the bill. #buckets 😊
I just signed up yesterday. Waiting for my background check. Do you track your miles? Government gives like 55 cents a mile.
It’s 67 cents a mile this year just so you know! And I track them with the solo app
They just raised my car insurance again ill probably be buying a moped soon
Sounds like a Tesla would work well here, no brake changes, (regen braking), no oil changes and charging at home costs almost nothing for refueling your car.
Buying a Tesla just to dash seems dumb tho
@@bankrolledgar1969 True but if you already have one ...
Have you ever had a situation when not all the money you made transferred to your bank account? Cause this just happened to me. $21.97 nvr transfer, dash support said to wait til the nxt payout
Hmm weird, never had that happen before
I appreciate your effort, but there is one major flaw. You cannot include taxes as an expense, because an hourly wage is what you make before taxes. So without the taxes, it's $16.80/hr. Furthermore, if you include the tax savings you get from deducting your miles driven, it's $18.41/hr.
Everyone has to pay taxes though, immediately you will owe 15% in taxes as a 1099 the only way to lower it is through other expenses or mileage deduction. But then if you lower it too much, your net income on your tax filings drop to 0 or even negative and it will be harder to rent an apartment, get a mortgage, car loan, etc and you screw yourself over the long term on your social security contribution which means less money in retirement. Then there is the deprecation of your car, it's a mechanical machine and unless it's a 1nz-fxe toyota or k24 honda engine it's maximum lifetime is 250,000 miles, the transmission is in worse shape ESPECIALLY with gig work which is brutal on transmissions with a lot of stop and go driving most gig workers seem to lose those after 100,000 miles of gig work
This guy is spot on
That why I drive a 98 man lol your killing your pocket with the up-to-date cars😂😂😂😂
Broski speak for your area i never make less than 22 hour after expenses.
After a couple months of dashing, I’ve learned that everyone is getting conned into slavery and many is fine with it.
Yep
Why not just not dash if the expenses are that much I’ve been dashing for about 6 years and the expenses aren’t that high but I have an EV so the only maintenance is tires and the electricity use per dash which is like 3$ for 200$ made usually 200$ I drive like 60 miles only and only takes like 5 to 6 hours to make and taxes you can just right off a lot of things and basically pay very minimal tax don’t do standard mileage deduction
I really lost track when this guy said gas was 2.5-3 dollars a gallon. WHERE???
What about if you drive 30 mins and back to a w2 job
Yes some ppl drive 2 hours it's insane!
And you can’t write that off.

What happened to your Mercedes and Tesla?
I never had a Tesla, and my Mercedes got totaled
DoorDash updated their acceptance rate policy today
You missed one of the biggest expenses - THE CAR - it will be trashed in 4-5 years
What about the math on the mileage deduction off your gross. And the SS and Medical taxes of 15% .
I don't see being able to make enough to use the mileage deduction. But I will be paying the 15% tax to SS and Medicare.
Bottom line.
15% to taxes
Fuel and maint are out of the Net left over .
if you are paid by the hour, it is suppose to be BY THE HOUR, not by the ACTIVE TIME.
You should have been paid for every single hour of that 11 hours and 40 minutes, not the 7 hour active time. It's definitely a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Companies rarely expect to pay HOURLY workers for idle time, they send them home early
ppl always talk about how bad doordash is what about the rest of the apps? why just rely on doordash if it’s not sustainable depends on ur expenses, what car ur driving, & ur living situation if u want to make serious money (depending on where u live) WORK FULL TIME
Bro I made $17 an hour and spent $15 in gas and car maintenance..
The flood of illegal immigrants streaming into the country and then signing up with Doordash, and driving vehicles around that lack registration and insurance is the biggest problem. There are no barriers to entry. If every illegal immigrant was removed from the doordash platform, base pay would instantly rise by several dollars. When a $3 offer pops up, we see a trash order. An illegal immigrant from Venezuela sees a days worth of wages. This should be the focus of every gig driver out there, getting these apps to remove illegal immigrants from using them.
You're funny it asks you for your social and does a background check. You're delusional.
You’re clueless, but I think you know that already.
Even when you get to a lot of the restaurants they are working there too.. It's all by design though. They are trying to crush the average citizen

He isn't clueless at all. I see the exact same thing with my own two eyes. I label it "the Prius Cartel". They ALL drive Priuses. They ALL use multiple accounts. They ALL double park in the middle of the parking lot, and they ALL can't speak English fluently. Don't even try to argue with me, I have been doing this full time for 2 years and lived in my town 10 years. First year i did this, I don't think I saw any illegals at all. I got into an accident in August 2022, came back Feb 2023, it was like a flick of a light switch. No more making 300 a day, be lucky if you cracked 200. And what OP said is exactly the reason why.
What DoorDash needs to do is have you verify your identity before EVERY shift. Uber Eats does it on occasion. It takes less than 15 seconds. They also need to verify registration like Uber does. If you have proper indentification, registration, and insurance, why wouldn't you be allowed to Dash? And if you didn't have these, why SHOULD you be allowed to Dash? @@nala3038
I make 24 dollars an hour in Marion Ohio an Marion is filled with drug addiction
Cant factor in taxes because everyone has completely different tax situations (married, single, kids, other income, homeowners, etc...)
I use the $0.10/mile for gas then about $0.05/mile for tires, breaks, oil changes and misc.
Depending on where you live, you can usually find basic oil changes for around $30.. Just shop around. At 4000 mile increments, that's about $0.01 per mile
Average price of basic tires is closer to $700 for reliable 50,000 mile tires, which is about $0.01-0.02 per mile
Brakes amd rotors about $600-700 every 50,000 miles, so add another $0.01-0.02 per mile.
What you mean can't factor in taxes? PLAN that expense! The IRS doesn't make anything a secret to be found out afterwards...
I know my exact situation. I know exactly how much I can earn before moving up in tax bracket. I know the week, day, and hour that I reach that level.
As for driving cost, you left out the single largest cost... the price of the vehicle.
@@ericwolfe8119 what I meant was you cannot factor in taxes when determining how much you're making per hour if you're comparing it to a W-2 job. If you worked at a job for $20 an hour you're not actually making $20 an hour because you're going to have to pay taxes on that. Obviously you have to factor in taxes for your net earnings at the end of the year, but I'm just making the point that when comparing it to an hourly rate job/w2,
These gigs are supposed to supplement your income not be the main source of….
It’s not the pandemic where money was everywhere and you could make $30/hr

@@nala3038 I get that

And don't pay so much attention to what you're making. Just take the biggest orders and go out for short periods of time
do 84 hours a week, 7 days a week etc. because $60k+ a year is much better than working 40 hours a week

Sometimes you strike me just as a crybaby man! The information that you give out, you leave soooo much out! For example, there are ways that you apparently haven’t exploited, to working by the hour and making it profitable. You must know your area and traffic and restaurants that normally take longer to prepare food.., etc.,. I can assure you the way to success is a combination Of working by the hour and by the order!
Secondly if the information you give catches a DD driver by surprise, they simply shouldn’t be doing this. Also then you forget that every area of every state is not the same as your area !
I know that TH-cam is a way for you to make additional funds. That’s what you give out all this information, but do it with that without all the crying man it’s irritating.
What the man is saying is true this is a suckers job. Don't believe me look at other content creators and on social media. The money to be made doing food delivery was during the pandemic. So now your going to tell me you make $1k a week like the rest of them? He isn't crying about anything bottom line the companies are making peanuts and the gig economy is saturated so tell me otherwise.
Also working by th hour is another scam let's be honest here. The reality is many restaurants are getting rid of food delivery due to high fees which cuts into there profit. Also many people are going out to eat and don't want to pay the high and exaggerated fees these companies charge. I can assure you if a recession hits no one is going to be ordering $52 pizzas
