    We have been talking about doing a bus. We live in Tennessee and are hoping to find a bus like this one. My husband is a retired electrician. He is studying for his license in home inspection. So hoping to be working soon. But with his own schedule comes more time to visit family. We have a daughter studying to be a DR. So we want to visit her. Because her workload is too much for her to fly home. Again a bus build is what we think works well for us because it’s not cheap to raise up a doctor. She’s is totally worth it. And I want mind at all being in a small mobile home. Something self contained. Just watching all the videos. We did that before we bought land and did a shed cabin. So this could be the next move for us. We thought about a van build. I’m am ole van momma. I drove all the smart kids to school. I think everyone of the kids who rode with me are studying to be doctors. So proud of all of them. But we need more room. That way our huskies Dakota & Pearl can travels with us. They have a youtube channel and hoping for 1000 subscribers so they can earn money for pets in need. And we are happy my hubby and I are now empty nesters. If we do a bus build I will post it. Our channel is cabin life. We might need to be bus life. I really like this build. The garage is nice. And the shower a must. We will put one in. The hole point is to stay self contained. Out of hotels and public restrooms. Good luck Doug! Wish you all the good things in life! And thank you for all the care you provided your patients. Leslye

    Just an FYI. If you are interested in learning how to get your A/C to work with solar tune into Gone With the Wynns video called “Off Grid solar powered RV air conditioning-is it possible?” Spoiler alert: yes with the right technology and a serious cash outlay. I say serious because it involves lithium batteries, plenty of solar panels and the appropriate accoutrements to use with it as well as a nifty little device known as an Easy Start (or soft start). So there you have it!

    • @GodOfReality
      @GodOfReality 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could do all of that, or you could just have an air intake from underneath the vehicle (where the nearby air is coolest) and better ventilation with some cheap fans.

    Watching videos as such really reveals the passion and *interest that the individual has for what they have chosen to do (when concerning van life/living mobile) I'm always confused when I come across videos where certain people are complaining/ showing their disgust or disdain for doing what they've chosen to do. 👀I think too many folk do things/subscribe to doing things based on what they see others do, with the belief that they will magically feel and experience all that the person is portraying or really experiencing. Here you can see that this guy is living with passion, purpose and direction that obviously has zero to do with being trendy or getting on board. Truth be told, if you're not passionate about your choices or have real interest in whatever you're involving yourself in, it's probably best that you not do it. As doing that which appears to be trendy and cool, isn't the same as passionately living your life and doing all that resonates with ***your spirit. Cheers to him and his travels.

    2:00 - Doghouse in cab - I have the same concept and mine bulges out but provides no organization at all. Typical cookie cutter useless accessory from Ford. I really like what you did to seal up the open section with a FLAT panel and hang what you want on it. Much smarter. This doghouse allows access to the engine for servicing, so needs to be a removable cover, which is what you did. Nice work! I will copy that. Solves my problem.
    Shower as you walk in - so nice. Wash your feet and doggie feet and no mold issues with the ventilation. Smart!
    5:22 - I would move that fire extinguisher elsewhere. Not near a flame, yikes!
    Great van build. Impressive that you did this yourself, well done! Bon Voyage!

    The stealthiness comes in handy when you can't find a parking space. To cops a shuttle bus parked can look normal and in place when parked in certain parking lots. Hotels, Senior Homes, Hospital parking lots, even on the street in certain areas. The last thing you want as a traveling nurse is having a cop pounding on your door with a flashlight. Picking spots next to other busses, vans, or any business that offers shuttle services.

    I don't know how I missed this when you uploaded this but I did. I wanted to let him know that you CAN run AC off of solar. It requires at least 1200W solar and as much battery storage. It does depend on the AC Unit and i would not start it off at the lowest temp and highest fan speed right off the top. Personally, I would put in about 1500W of solar and the same (1500V) in battery power storage, just in case I wanted a drink or to turn a light on. You will need your solar panels in the sun to maximize your input as the AC will eat the power fairly quickly. I don't know that the AC will draw maximum power constantly, i think that it woul level off to 800 or 900W of power. Doing a few things like venting the hotter air out of the bus after closing the curtains and such would cut back on the initial drain and blah blah blah. You're both probably smarter than I am. From what i understand, anything can be powered by solar, you just have to be sure you can support each device's need. You would not be able to run the AC after dark or during heavy cloud cover. I wonder if a 12V DC AC can be found (no, it's NOT backwards). As 12V power is so much more efficient, I wonder if it would require as much. Bob Well of Cheap RV Living did a video with the guy that went over the different data options as well as other tech(ish) options a year or two ago. The gentleman theorized that an AC should be able to run with enough power, and it did. Unfortunately, the heat East of the Mississippi doesn't drop as much at night as in the desert, but in the high desert or even all of the desert DOES get cooler when the sun goes down. And blowing the hot air out of a high window or a roof hatch DOES keep the hot air from building up. I learned THAT sleeping in an attic in 90°+ weather , turning the fan to blow outside cooled the room significantly. Just saying (and saying.....)

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes, no question it can be done, with the right "tech". However his AC was a regular RV unit that uses quite a bit more power. He would need to redesign his whole system to get AC on solar in his rig.

    Actually the technology is available for AC working off solar. It takes a lithium battery and a little gizmo called Soft Start. The Soft Start helps with that huge spike of power when the AC fires up. The lithium and solar takes over from there. If you want mire info check out the video made by “Gone With the Wynns” about running an AC on solar. Also the “RV Geeks” have a video about it as well!

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct... with enough solar panels and lithium batteries and a small efficient AC unit it is possible. Those typical RV roof units are a bit too power hungry though...

      I’m pretty sure the Wynns used their regular AC unit but they had 7 solar panels and IDK how many lithium batteries they used. Obviously with a much smaller unit than a monster Class A coach you wouldn’t need all that. They have since moved all power equipment (solar panels up to 9 now) over to a used 45’ catamaran and are exploring the wet & wild blue yonder!

    a 12000 btu mini split AC with 2000 watts of ac on the roof along with lithium batteries would run ....you can run a small 5000 btu window unit on around 700 watts of solar

    Your sort of like the doctor on 'Trapper John MD' who lived in an TV in the parking lot on the show. I used to love watching him sun bathe on his roof

      Trapper John must be very small to live in a TV.

    Perhaps, it's just me but I was floored that you didn't know what a R.N. was.
    BTW, a L.P.N. is a Licensed Practical Nurse...many of which work as until they finish up their R.N. program.
    Obviously like Medical Doctors, they need to be licensed in their states to 'practice' medicine. (Ya know, that term just bothers me bad.)
    Good thing you are on the road for your education.😎

    The build looks good - the problem is how you shot the video - there was no wide shot to see the different "areas" in relation to each other. The shower was one of the more impressive aspects of the build, but what I couldn't see how it fit into the space. A close up shot of this, a close up shot of that - it was hard to see the build in any kind of entirety.

    What is a slack line? Very cool build!!

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks much for watching! :) Slacklining is kind of a balancing sport / activity... here's a synopsis from Wikipedia: "Slacklining refers to the act of walking, running or balancing along a suspended length of flat webbing that is tensioned between two anchors. Slacklining is similar to slack rope walking and tightrope walking. Slacklines differ from tightwires and tightropes in the type of material used and the amount of tension applied during use. Slacklines are tensioned significantly less than tightropes or tightwires in order to create a dynamic line which will stretch and bounce like a long and narrow trampoline. Tension can be adjusted to suit the user, and different webbing may be used in various circumstances."

    Nice build. I would have liked knowing a bit more about the bus (what year, how much it cost to buy it, how many miles on it) and the build (how long did it take and how much did it cost).

    • @TheCruisinCrew
      @TheCruisinCrew  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I didn't ask about those details, but usually these busses can be bought pretty cheap. If I were to make an educated guess, he probably paid 6 grand for the bus and another 6k for the build...

      It cost 15 grand total, 2K of that was suspension upgrades. Its a 2001 and had 36,000 miles when purchased, and it took 6 months to convert 😀
