Scott isn’t the leader, but his stature and personality made him the frontman. Behind the scenes they all work together to create the best music that they can. Scott gets more leads due to his baritone voice. They assign leads, solos, backgrounds, et cetera, based on what best serves the song.
Avi, who was the original PTX bass, left the band to deal with sickness in his family (his mother is doing well now) and decided to he wanted to do a lot less traveling so there was an amiable split in 2017. The gentleman in the white blazer is Matt Salle joined PTX as the bass singer (although he also sings baritone and sometimes tends to hit some beautiful high tenor notes) Matt also plays the drums (and piano) and is featured with Kevin on the cello in several special songs (check out their version of "The Sugar Plum Fairy Revised'.
Although Scott was instrumental in putting the group together, I love their teamwork. They seem to have no ego when it comes to selecting the right voice for each part depending on the song. I finally got to see them in person this past summer and loved their interaction with each other and with the audience.
The original artists of "The Sound of Silence" was the duo Simon and Garfunkel. The song was released in 1966. The song is about the increasing inability of people to communicate despite increases in technology which should make communication easier. It is as true today as it was in 1966.
Subscribed for more Pentatonix. The videos you have reacted to are pre-2018 when Avi was their Bass. This video has their current Bass, Matt (white jacket). This is the only member change in Pentatonix. The rest are: Scott (Tall Blonde) - Baritone Mitch (high voice) - Countertenor Kirstin or Kirstie - Alto Soprano Kevin - Beatboxer/Cellist/Tenor Recommend their live performance video of Kiss From A Rose. PS - Please consider starting a Pentatonix playlist please. It makes it easier for us to follow. Thanks.
Thanks for this! There's no actual leader, but Scott does tend to be the frontman for them. They all get their moments depending on the song and what it needs. There's no fights over who gets what verse or spotlight. The new guy ( no really so new, since he's been with them since 2018 a few months after Avi left ) is Matt Sallee and he's great! He's has a lovely, warm, rich bass and getting deeper as he matures and trains. His vocal listing is lyric baritone ( same as Scott's) but Matt tends to be warmer and deeper. Lyric means the singer has a greater than normal vocal range. They've actually been featured in three movies now: Perfect Pitch 2, Candy Cane Lane and coming November 6th, Meet Me Next Christmas. They just dropped their new song Meet Me Next Christmas about half an hour ago.
Scott (long trench coat), along with Kirsty and Mitch are from Arlington, TX. Arlington is not a small town as some comentors have said. It's a bedroom community for Dallas and Ft Worth.

They have a vast library of music videos and are extremely versatile in their music. Can't wait to see your reactions to their Christmas videos.

Yup...that's how they roll, no egos in the group, each one of them serves the song and what it needs vocally from them.

Are you kidding me? You want him to “become” something he isn’t?
Maybe he could just stop being black. Would that help?
Maybe you should become less judgmental and more accepting of other's individualities... Just sayin'
