It's pretty annoying that this version will be the best overall (The Wii version has shitty gyro controls and the 3DS one is pretty ugly even though it has more levels) but some graphics changes still look worse.

This is very strange that they would show that, I don't want to assume anything but it makes me wonder if they are in fact using footage from previous builds in the trailer(s), how much of the current product are they not showing? I really want this port to look the best it can. I wouldn't be surprised if this port becomes collectible merch at the DKC park at Universal.
I think Returns is still a great game, but I really do hope Forever Entertainment fixes all these issues you've shown off. A few issues I do have with the new showcase is the Time Attack timer, and how some background pieces are missing.
That's so weird calling easy mode 'modern mode' especially when games are finally starting to become more difficult again without as much handholding. DKCR was already a pretty easy game
This looks good, lots of improvements from the last trailers, but there are still improvements that can be done here and there, for this hopefully Ultimate version. 3:05 (Sun effect is still missing) 3:42 (There's a big wave coming towards the platform but you can barely see it on the Switch version!) 4:14 (Missing "splash effect" around the tentacles, missing effects on water) Also, the colors for water and lava have changed significantly, which can affect the atmosphere on some levels. Hopefully we can still feel the heat from those lava levels. :D
The shadow change is likely an intentional one for gameplay reasons. I think most people find it easier to aim their landings with blob shadows than full mesh based shadows.

It's getting there. The only standout issue I still see is in the level with the crashing waves on the dock. The waves in the background are missing their highlight, affecting the gameplay because you can no longer see the waves to time your movement with them.

One thing that bothers me a little is that many of the 3D assets remain the same and as the game now runs in 1080p it is much more evident how "blocky" some parts of the scenery are due to having a lower number of polygons due to Wii limitations. I really wish they had done what they did with Kirby Return To Dream Land Deluxe where they redid pretty much every scene, 2D asset and 3D model, especially since this game will cost full price.
When it's the EXACT SAME GAME, updated/HD graphics mean absolute shit to me. My only complaint about the Wii version though is the lack of use for the Classic/Gamecube controllers which would have been perfect for this game instead of forcing you to use motion controls (same with New Super Mario Bros. Wii)
Well, I think the majority of issues (water, hairy textures, the giant bat beam attack, etc.) are fixed in this new trailer. I really liked it a lot. So we can guess that we are having the definitive edition on Switch. Good news.
The only issue I notice that isn’t resolved yet is the rays from where the sun itself is in sunset-lit levels are missing. While I definitely hope they fix it, I could probably live without it should that be the case.

yeah, I noticed this years ago whenever I see someone upload 3DS gameplay through direct feed from a capture card or emulation. It really goes to show that the screen you play on does make a difference and Nintendo did a good job making sure games looked great on thier respective hardware.
Seems like they're having trouble adding in the fur effect probably because of coding reasons or whatnot. I don't mind it looking flat - but I do hope they at least add fringes to the fur next to the wrists so they don't look like sleeves. 🙏🏾
No. This isn’t good enough, especially for $60. In fact, the water effects on the rocket barrel stages look significantly worse, there’s a lot of details missing. It’s not a remake but for a HD remaster I expected so much more with dynamic lighting, graphical fidelity - this is just a game to fill in the gaps sadly. I already have it twice (Wii and 3DS) so it’s an absolute no from me. I’m happy with the masterpiece that is Tropical Freeze.

This is decent, but not "$60" decent Metroid Prime Remastered was pretty much a remake in every since given the graphics are so entirely different and polished, and it's $40. This isn't worth it's price imo. It's just a meh worthy remaster of a 3DS port of a Wii made by what I presume is a newer dev team.

So basically... Wii: the best version, most consistent lighting and graphical effects. Switch: kinda worse, the lighting is a little flat and the particle effects rely a bit too much on flat textures but not BAD. 3DS: it's bad, but you can tell it's all hardware limitation and not a "bad" port.
Any remaster or remake this late in the Switch's lifespan will sting hard considering how much better the next switch will perform allowing for better games and remakes
The Switch version looks better than the 3DS version, but I have to say, the missing fur texture is a really noticeable downgrade from the Wii version. The Wii is clearly lower resolution, but the characters stand out more and look more realistic.
@juanmarty1499 No, the Wii on the right shows DK and Diddy Kong with chestnut brown fur with a golden sheen on the edges. The Switch version on the left shows a flat dark brown texture that makes it harder to see the characters in many environments, let alone highlight their curvature.
How is it a worse port? It has all the 3ds exclusive content and actual proper button controls. And yet the original is somehow better because some of the vfx don't look as good? Despite the awful obligatory motion controls? Please explain yourself.

You don't need to have an IQ above 80 to know that every port requires a redesign of the controls for the console on which it will be released, otherwise how will the player play? I have that game on the Nintendo 3DS, even though its fun to play I never finished it due to some levels are hard to complete 😅😢

Besides some of the water effects and the lava fireballs the rest looks good to me. As of now the price is the biggest compliant!
