See, I don't fully get this argument. SHOULD it be $60/$80(CAD)? Perhaps not. But as someone in college for game development, it's amazing the amount of work it takes to create a DEMO, let alone a full game! I made a time-attack racer in Unity and it took almost 3 months from conception to a final build. And it ONLY had 1 track with 3 difficulties. And planned features weren't added, like all 4 races or even a nitro boost. That was largely from scratch. Times that by, say, 60 levels and suddenly you have a boatload of stuff to test and ensure it works. Plus, developers don't get paid enough and are forced to crunch a lot more than you may expect. Hell, even I WAS CRUNCHING to meet that project deadline. And the Wii and 3DS versions were compiled for different CPU architecture. And while that's a lot less of an issue nowadays, even in stuff like Unity I found can be a hassle to port stuff. What rendered correctly on Windows didn't render correctly on Android. Developers deserve to be compensated for their work. And let's be honest, it's a new version of a game that needed testing to ensure it worked. Otherwise, it would launch in a buggy state. And I've seen loads of people complain about that. And like JRRR92 mentioned, yes it IS 14 years old. But people also should realize that games have often BEEN $70/$90(CAD) in the past. WHEN ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION! Like, Crash Bandicoot on the original PlayStation? If adjusted for inflation, it WOULD be just as much, if not MORE expensive than games today. Sorry for the long-winded comment. I just feel that not enough people acknowledge what goes on behind the scenes or recognize important context with some of these decisions. I'm NOT attacking anyone. If someone doesn't feel it's worth that price tag, that's fine! Great, even! But it may be worth it to others. People made a stink about Tears of the Kingdom being a $90CAD game, which I get. And while I got it on sale, I would have gotten it at $90 if I knew how much more fun I'm having over Breath of the Wild. I just hope that others can at least see and acknowledge the other side, even if they don't agree.
What bothers me most is that why the hell new version does not use more polygons on Switch? Game's enviroments still look blocky and even enemies are not rounded -up.
Because that's on a whole other level. This is just an HD reamster, not a remake. It's A LOT of work to make new character models. It creates new problems that need to be solved, and so on and on.

How did they manage to make this look WORSE in some aspects? And why can't they get GC & Wii remasters to run at 60 fps on Switch hardware?! The GC came out in 2001, and the Wii was basically just a slightly improved GC. It's crazy they can't manage 60 fps on a simple remaster, let alone remakes like Paper Mario TTYD. Switch should have zero issue with that. Even worse, they have the nerve to sell these games for *FULL PRICE?!* Pass.
Honestly if the game has all the content the Wii and 3ds versions had and looks better the majority of the time I am alright with it as me as a dk fan just needs something and though I wish it was a new game I am hopeful that a new dk will appear on the next console instead of another remaster like dk hd or tropical freeze
It's strange that this port for the Switch seems like a downgrade, especially considering that earlier, for the Nvidia Shield in China, they released official ports of several Wii games, including *Donkey Kong Country Returns*, where the Nvidia Shield port looks more HD than this one.

I'm really hoping this is all just out of date footage. This is my preferred game of the Retro DKC duo and I've been waiting for a definitive release for a while free of motion controls.
At 6:38, remember that the new trailer for the Switch version (where the Kongs now look less furry), was released only by Nintendo UK. Meanwhile, the old trailer was also released by Nintendo of America, so maybe that has something to do with the Kongs’ graphical downgrade between the 2 trailers, but I’m not certain. I certainly hope the graphics in the U.S. copies of the game end up looking the same as they did in the original trailer, but I won’t get my hopes up until I know for sure.
Because the comparisons show different changes. More importantly, why would Nintendo put older changes in a newer showcase video? Shows they don't care about quality control..
This is why emulation is still so prevalent. You pick an old game and boot it up with higher resolution and better effects (if you use something like ReShade). This company doesn't even do the minimum effort to sell this Remaster and yet they charge 60 USD for this... I'm not gonna pay it.
Vicarious Visions did work on a 3D DK game at one point, but Activision canned the project. Also, this game is just really just a tie-in for the Donkey Kong Country expansion.
@@BIayne Unfortunately, DKC Returns HD is being worked on by forever entertainment. Combined with the $60 price point and you essentially got a recipe for disaster.
60 dollars is pretty wild to ask for sice thos was one of the games they re released as a Nintendo select game for 20 dollars later in the wiis life, and on wii u it was also 20 dollars on e shop. So now magical its worth 40 more dollars than before.
Since the first trailer, I’ve always questioned why this remake doesn’t have the graphics of the Tropical Freeze remake. It’s genuinely one of the best looking games period and I really expected DKCR HD to follow in its footsteps. In my opinion, with the way the graphics are looking now, I’d even say that (and this is a *very* bold statement) the Wii version looks better. I don’t know what it is, but the whole game just looks very flat to me, even with the better resolution.
These kind of people are the reason why game devs take 8 years to make a game so that these people don’t cry and complain about a certain graphic not fully polished
Who is doing that low-quality port already? Completely shameful. Nintendo needs to do more quality-checks for their games with some of their affiliates, it's been going down a dangerous slippery slope lately.
I don't know why they're being so finicky with this port. While it looks like they're trying to make it look better, it does still fall short from the original in some aspects making it seem like it's not in high priority of a series to them, yet the price tag is still high as if it was a brand new installment of the series.
This is all “fog wall in Dark Souls Remastered looks worse” level stuff. Barring some catastrophic set of bugs that make the Switch version objectively worse, this stuff is luckily all immaterial.
I remember there being two different pan-up shots to DK's hut, one for Diddy coming out and one for DK coming out, so it's likely they were just two different shots.
Well we should get an overview trailer for the game soon sometime in December so hopefully they might polish the game more and make it look better than how it looked in the announcement trailer five months during the Nintendo Direct 👀🤞

At least Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD has torough better graphics everywhere… I’m eventully still going to buy it because well I always do
Nintendo's policy is becoming increasingly shitty. On one hand we have to pay to subscribe to retrogaming that on emulators or original consoles looked much better and without extra pixels, on the other hand, they create attractions with partial elements taken from the original games, like the new Donkey Kong country attraction. Then they don't make new games with these characters, Oh well, they made another piece of crap remaster, I had already seen a lot of defects in the shadows and in the focus, this time seeing that sea so fictitious and shitty I thought "let them keep it", if I want I'll replay the original on Wii. 🤮

Even that game was fine in my opinion.
Even that game was fine in my opinion.Like with Sonic Colors, the game itself is still great, and that’s all the matters.
I can see why they'd say that. Poor lighting and texture changes for another Wii remaster? Checks out.
I'm really hoping this is all just out of date footage. This is my preferred game of the Retro DKC duo and I've been waiting for a definitive release for a while free of motion controls.
I wish they at the very least added new content so this stuff wouldn't be as bad
You can now play all the 3DS exclusive levels at 60 fps
@lol-ih1tl And it's 1080p. The 3ds was like 512p? Something like that. Actually it's 240p. Damn!
@@WllKiedSnake the 3ds version ran at 30 fps.
@@lol-ih1tl It did. This version is 60fps.
I agree. More levels or a new rendition of the DK Rap would be a nice bit of content to add in on top of the 3DS levels.
2:12 I see a difference of Wii controller, but I see it’s holding a joy con that’s clever.
Oh…
They’re not gonna fix them, are they?…
Probably not, unless it's glaringly obvious.
How do you know the second trailer isn’t using earlier footage than the first in some scenes? Things like that have happened in game trailers before.
Same.
Fingers crossed that DKCR HD is just a precursor to a much bigger, better DK game 🤞
Vicarious Visions did work on a 3D DK game at one point, but Activision canned the project. Also, this game is just really just a tie-in for the Donkey Kong Country expansion.
@Austinator0630 Fingers crossed that DKC Universe Studios expansion is just a precursor to a much bigger, better DK game 🤞
@@BIayne Unfortunately, DKC Returns HD is being worked on by forever entertainment. Combined with the $60 price point and you essentially got a recipe for disaster.
@@Austinator0630Their remakes for Panzer Dragoon and the Front Mission games have been alright.
@@Austinator0630 This really gives off the same vibes as the Pokemon BDSP situation, tbh.
60 dollars is pretty wild to ask for sice thos was one of the games they re released as a Nintendo select game for 20 dollars later in the wiis life, and on wii u it was also 20 dollars on e shop. So now magical its worth 40 more dollars than before.
Not finished yet? Is that realistic with a game releasing Jan 16?
Maybe the Frames, FX, Details, etc. are still in Development
But there were no new trailers released, is this still the same trailer from six months ago?
Nintendo UK/Europe posted a general DK trailer yesterday which had new footage
You’re overreacting. These are all just pointless nitpicks of what will still be a fantastic game.
@benmalsky9834 Sure, whatever. No point in discussing it.
You mean like the Pokemon games on Switch? Or if it ran at half the framerate than older consoles for twice the price just like Paper Mario TTYD?
Honestly a lot of this feels like nitpicking considering the average player likely wont notice or care about these details.
Exactly!!!!
That's what i've been trying to say, but do Nintendorks understand NOOOO
even if players dont notice, the game looking worse than it did over a decade ago is an objective downgrade that you don't need to defend
People will notice if a game that used to run at 60 fps now only runs at 30 fps for twice the price.
it couldve been the original DK Country but remaking an old game would actually take a bit of effort while porting a Wii game is free money
I'M SICK OF HIM COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS; I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE GEN 9 GRAPHICS FOR A GEN 7 GAME. . .
The point is that the Gen 9 graphics are worse than the Gen 7 graphics.. lol
@@Sairiui I Couldn't agree LESS!!
@@New3DSLuigi364 Your opinion means nothing to me, tbh. I'm not going to support this trash.
Alexa, play the Pirates of the Caribbean theme.
I remember there being two different pan-up shots to DK's hut, one for Diddy coming out and one for DK coming out, so it's likely they were just two different shots.
True, but the one with Diddy has him in the shot, since the camera follows along.
P Diddy
@@KoolAidDinkyTV
Not a good year for Diddy Kong.
mario wiiu on miiverse won't be happy with the water change
The game night receive patches fixing those issues.
Well we should get an overview trailer for the game soon sometime in December so hopefully they might polish the game more and make it look better than how it looked in the announcement trailer five months during the Nintendo Direct 👀🤞
Well it’s still not the graphics of tropical freeze here.
Still haven't finished this game yet. Totally love it, got it on Wii and 3DS. For that reason I can't justify getting the HD version really..
[💚]It's the same thing that all the pokemon remakes since ultra sun/ultra moon (thankfully not legend arceus) have been doing. [💛] Still better than sisterboat
I never played this game in the wii so I'll wait to play in the switch 2 with better graphics
"What inspired you to make a pointless remaster of a goated game?"
"Money"
(yes that's the point but why $60- maybe I'm stingy but come on)
It’s not “pointless”, say why not make a great game more accessible.
Remasters are NEVER pointless. It’s always great to see great games always remain in gamer’s grasp.
@@benmalsky9834 I mean, sure, it allows us to experience the game with more accessibility, but we could've gotten something else -though this game is awesome-
@ Do not cross out that last sentence, it’s true.
@ I am literally okay with whatever Nintendo decides to do and whatever games they decide to release, I’m not picky or choosy.
Isn't that too soon to judge on a trailer instead of the actual game ???
we really need dk64 remake it deserved more, or also a new dk open world revival the 3d donkey kong was cool idk why the hate... the dk saga only have ports on switch... no new games, whats next? donkey kong jungle beat?
That's scary I see in the new trailer they have 2 health bars instead of 3 in the old trailer
There’s 2 different modes in the game, one has 3 hearts and one has 2. You get to choose at the beginning of the game.
@@Vindisk i know that I didn't expect them to use the extremely hard mode setting for this trailer
I think it's based on the 3ds port.
still buying it, same game but on a newer console, way more convenient plus it’s still the same amazing game
I hate how theyve changed DKs fur coat from light brown to dark brown. The whole game looks less vibrant and detailed. Shame.
You know they could’ve easily made a remake of something like Donkey Kong 64 or heck even the first Donkey Kong game with the time they had but nope instead they decided to make a second port of a already existing game with supposed better graphics but in places they just seems downright worse and they seriously dare to ask $60 for it. At least Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD has torough better graphics everywhere…
I’m eventully still going to buy it because well I always do
3:42 does it really look “bad”? Or perhaps just a stylistic choice?
Nintendo's policy is becoming increasingly shitty. On one hand we have to pay to subscribe to retrogaming that on emulators or original consoles looked much better and without extra pixels, on the other hand, they create attractions with partial elements taken from the original games, like the new Donkey Kong country attraction. Then they don't make new games with these characters, Oh well, they made another piece of crap remaster, I had already seen a lot of defects in the shadows and in the focus, this time seeing that sea so fictitious and shitty I thought "let them keep it", if I want I'll replay the original on Wii. 🤮
I often find myself proud to be a 3DS modder
The fire on the fire Tikis is missing yellow too.
I may be wrong but I'm sure that this is not a Wii port, but rather a 3DS port.
I’d rather a had remake of the original DKC games and the one on the N64
