I didn't really start hunting until I turned 31, I am 38 now so I have a lot of learning to do. I have been doing my best from your podcast and by making mistakes in the woods.
I live in East Texas, small town called ore city, walked some core land, came up in a persimmon tree, been ate on quite a bit, one was left with a hard beaten trail going north, took the trail right into someone back yard, this pushed me back in towards the lake to core land which landed me no other way but to squeeze through the thickest batch of honey locust I’d ever seen, got poked a lot, came through the locust into a few acres of thick low growth of a recent clear cut, it was about 5 1/2’ high, the trails in this is what helped me get out, bedding after bedding I came up in….a group of young pines was spotted and underneath watching me the whole time was a group of doe about 6 and some fawns lol I want to get up in one of the big pines the corps left, but I just don’t know how to get in there as I barely made it with no gear and a set of binos lol
I knew going into this show that i was behind on hunt skill and woodsmanship. Then i hear these fellas talking about dropping persimmons from the stand and patterning a buck based on tide washed tracks..turns out that I am ALOT behind. These killers on a whole nother level. Awesome show, appreciate yall.

I had 3 persimmon trees in my yard as a kid. It's about as far north as you'll find them I believe. Southwestern PA. They are so tasty! The deer loved them here too!
From a Fellow Arkansas guy for the Arkansas guys! Guys, I'm going going to give everyone a great tip about a specific area I grew up hunting for the early velvet hunt. Along pretty much the entire northern side/border of Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA in lined with private lands growing soybeans. Pretty much the entire north end of the refuge has been largely shut down due to the actions of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in combination with PRIVATE GROUPS for several years. Now as a result, the area I'm talking about has became a MECCA for MATURE BUCKS!!! The velvet hunt will allow public land hunters the opportunity to harvest a large percentage of those bucks early and before any gun hunts! As someone who grew up roaming this entire area. I'm going to help out the bowhunting community. I do this because I'm a avid bowhunter and I want to "pay it forward" and hopefully help some of you guys post your best bucks ever due to the information I'm sharing freely. Now, that entire area as mentioned is going to have a very healthy population of mature bucks. These agriculture fields layout on the north side is going to provide a very good opportunity to harvest those deer which are utilizing those crops during the velvet hunt. Additionally, all those mature deer which survive the velvet hunt will provide opportunities for those willing to do the work to get there and locate them! From a old timer of that ground for those hunting later. Find where the deer escape people! Find the thickest nastiest cover pockets in that area. Then locate the escape paths or travel corridors connecting them for your best shot at success on a mature buck 3 1/2+. If you can find a way to access the super thick stuff and hunt the interior of those sanctuary areas where they feel safe, you'll have the opportunity at a tank! However know that trying to do this in the wrong wind will kill your hunt! Now my statagy at hunting these deer is applicable across many different public land areas across the delta. Good luck this season! Now, I'm going to give a link to the best parking spot IMHO for hunting the north/west side of Hurricane Lake. October 29th I shot my first buck of the season 17 minutes after full moon rise. Of course, it could be coincidence but if you give me a full moon rise right before sunset you can bet I’ll be on stand that day.
I cant speak for all of the different guests, but I belive most of them are just getting downwind of the feed tree and that is the extent to which they play the wind. Many of them talk about not really knowing which direction the deer will be coming from so they just try and get the tree upwind of them.
Lol. The fella talking about hunting the tides He can go in and know if the sign is within the last 6 hours. Those other fellows never have that advantage. Yeah we know if the sign is fresh but fresh sign could be two days old lol😂. After a rain is about the only way to know how fresh sign is and that can only be determined based on how long it’s been stopped raining.
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen bow only. I'd do a national forest in Alabama or Mississippi where you can spread out like de soto or bankhead. Maybe scout 2 days then hunt 2-3. Pretty much it I guess.

Delta National, Big Panther and Lake George WMA are all close together and have plenty of room to spread out and hunt pretty much the same terrain. All three are tough hunting but all three have hammers in them.
While doing some post season scouting last winter I found a small WMA tract that is holding a 160" & a 190"+. Both of which were still alive post season. I was planning on hunting them myself this year but now I'm wondering how much $ someone would pay for the info... 🤔😂

They follow a bunch of nonsense… No study has shown a real correlation between the moon and deer movement..
Maybe do a episode on grunting an rattling techniques, timing, how much etc..

On those isolated oaks if I’m not mistaken grant woods says it’s getting more sunlight bc of less competition so the acorns are better…
The Rut happens at the same time each year for any given area. Temperatures determine if it happens during daytime or nighttime.
