Well, that was a real video. You didn’t even have to bleep out any words though. Lol. Definitely felt your frustration. Hope you like the wind deflectors. Not sure what you need them for we get out and ride in the wind, to not be in a car. might as well get a street glide one of those road glide type ones if you don’t want wind idk. You could just be feeling the heat of the engine more because it’s not blown the hot air away from your legs. You might need some deflectors under your legs now. Heat shields. That’ll give you another project. It looks nice up on the front end though. Hope you like them.
Thanks for watching. Oh this video was definitely edited a bit to remove some language. Ha! On the wind deflectors, there seems to be a consensus on some bikes that the wind buffeting gets to be too much. I'm in that camp. Also, I want to start doing longer trips, maybe multi-day trips down the road, and I think all that wind takes a toll on fatiguing the body. If I was doing just quick rides around the back roads at 55mph and less, probably not as big a deal. I've been riding without a shield for most of my riding. On this Springfield, the wind buffeting becomes a real issue at around 65mph and higher. Of course, there is the trade off with reduced wind making things feel hotter. Still experimenting to find the sweet spot.
Yeah man, you do lots of things to that bike. It’s really awesome that you try stuff anyway it makes it yours. That’s for sure. 👍 I often thought about getting a batwing for my Dyna They just clamp right on so I could take longer rides as well.
10:03 what a trooper she is. Always Humbling project. I have some O2 sensors to replace on my Mitsubishi and I’m afraid to even start that I could do more destruction than good ha ha. I did get a subframe replaced though but not without going through HE double toothpicks.😂
Indeed she's a trooper. I call her the "prairie wife" as she likes to handle a lot of stuff on her own--problem solver. She didn't want to be on camera though so I edited it most of the footage out. Funny observations about the projects. I get it!
I have the quick release windshield on my ‘16 Springfield and want to install a set of Wind-Deflectors. Do you say they are SJC Chrome deflectors? I noticed that you have a custom horn cover, do you mind sharing some information on that. Thank you, MN-Tim
The wind deflectors I have were from jescunstomaccents.com. Their name pops up often when it comes to the wind deflectors. A popular choice. On the horn cover, I just bought a copper coin of the right size and put it on there. I made a video about that project. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/JWYMV9Yo020/w-d-xo.html
I have the Captain Itch guards on my 16 Springfield and they do help deflect the heat from the rear cylinder. They have the studs to match the seat and mine have the feathers embossed on them. They look good on the bike. With the recurve windshield I have, buffeting hasn't been such an issue that I thought I'd need lower shields. I didn't want a bike with a fairing because well, it's a motorcycle and you should feel some wind, right!
I think the ones I ordered show up tomorrow. I ordered the same that you did---feathers with studs. I have an Ultimate seat and hoping they cut it in a way so it will fit. I just installed my Freedom shield yesterday. Have a video I'm working on for that. Still doing test rides.
I suffer from arthritis in my hands from years of wrenching in cars. Sometimes it helps to use a screwdriver to pry into holes to get things to line up. Doubt your engine is running hotter, it’s the wind being diverted and now you’re feeling heat that was always there.
Appreciate the screwdriver tip. Will keep that in mind. Good point. Also a good point about the engine temp. I've seen debates about this very topic on some of the forums I follow but mostly all theoretical with no actual tests. Because it's "air cooled" I just assumed less air may result in higher engine temps but admittedly I didn't give it much thought. Thinking you're right that the wind is now circulating in a way where that heat is just reaching me now. I've also noted I haven't had it be as hot again as it was on that one day. It was literally like I had a heated seat on the bike or something. I haven't felt it like that again and I've been riding pretty much every day.
I think your wife has the correct approach, if it's not going well, take a break. Otherwise the frustration can lead to more issues! Anyway, I just wanted to say that I had arthritis in my right hand. It got to the point where I could not shake hands without getting intense pain. Then I stopped eating carbohydrates and the arthritis disappeared after about a month. I recommend the carnivore diet. Try it for a month and see if it helps. There's plenty of info on TH-cam. Just a suggestion. Love your videos, keep them coming.
Thanks for the response. Like in most things, my wife is probably right versus me, but I do hate to put things off. Ha. On the arthritis, my doc thinks it's too many diet sodas and I need to cut back to see a reduction in pain. I try but admit I feel a bit hooked on them out of habit. Will keep this in mind as well.
For the wind deflectors? No, that was before I started recording some of this type of footage. I recall the hard part (for me at least) was having to fiddle around with removing the turn signals and I believe I also stripped a bolt back then as well. On that one, honestly, I think I was using the wrong tool type for this bike as I was still a newbie. For someone who knows more than me, probably a simple project, but I managed to have some challenge getting the turn signal part accomplished and I stripped one of the bolts .
Why not remove the top, attach the deflector and get the top started back in then take out bottom and attach? wouldn't that have kept everything from falling?
Thanks for the comment. I had to edit a lot of those footage in the interest of time. The video and the file were both getting too long/large. What you propose is exactly what I tried to do on the first one in the beginning. I can’t remember what went wrong with that approach or why it didn’t work. Even now I’m trying to remember what happened when I tried to do that. I don’t think I saved these original files to go back and look. I know that sounds crazy that I can’t remember, but there was a reason it didn’t work.
I don't understand how someone can get so frustrated over such a simple install. I don't mean it in a bad way, but are you not mechanically inclined? It needs to fall in line, but you seriously should look for a road buddy. Someone you could seriously have over, knock back a couple beers with and work on your bikes.
I have said a number of times that I am a novice, and not mechanically inclined. Almost the entire point of why I have shared the videos. I have also said in some of these videos that not all of us came out of the womb, knowing how to do these things. The mechanic that is helping me with these projects, said the most difficult and frustrating part of the project for him was getting all of this back lined up because it was not that easy. He also had a clamp which I did not. He also does not have arthritis like I do. if he is experienced and holds that view about it being a hassle, I feel it shouldn’t be a surprise that i had a problem with getting it done. Maybe one day I will find this road buddy willing to help. For now, it is me and my wife.

You're going to love the Captain Itch heat gaurd.
Got it installed and so far so good. Look good and I think it's doing its job. Thanks!

I was curious if you made a video of your Super Chief install? I just ordered them and wanted to know what I’m up against
