Oh look it's the channel that got ratio'd for their cringe ass pride video!
This video literally inspired me to carry my 3DS around more
Hello your here Arlo surpasses you in subscribers now lol
If Metroid Dread is anything to go by, no Nintendo game is truly "dead"
Honestly just expand that to their output over the last few years its been FULL of games and franchises we never thought we would see (again)
Metroid had a passionate director who wanted a new 2D game, tho. That can't be said for other Nintendo franchises since there has to be someone to pitch and direct the game while getting approval from Nintendo's higher ups in order to get the game greenlit.
True but Vicarious Visions doesn't exist anymore:((
Copium
Except Kid Icarus.
My Wife: Why is cookie monster on my tv?
you: “I can explain”
My wife while i watched arlos spicy takes video: Why the hell are you watching cookie monster. They just don't understand SMH
"My" tv?
My son: THATS NOT COOKIE MONSTER!!!
Lol
1:33 I find it funny you point out the cancelled Sheikah game. Cause the investigation that DYKG did revealed that the actual gameplay was just Whac-A-Mole with the Wii Mote. Also you weren’t even going to play as Sheik, you would be playing a new character who was a member of the Sheikah. Also-Also, I’m pretty sure the bit of information from the Gigaleak was literally just the project name on a document. Not really the blow your pants off info like uncompressed voice files from Star Fox 64 or anything like that.
I'm glad it wasn't supposed to have been Sheik-I didn't really want them being turned into a grizzled 30 year old looking dude
I'm really surprised the Zelda RPG (Heros of Hyrule, the name escaped me when I first wrote this) wasn't put in instead. It didn't sound like everyone's cup of tea, but it still sounded better than "montion-controlled Whac-a-Mole"
@@druidt8949 Reminder that Miyamoto turned Twilight Princess 2 into a lightgun game-a great one but nonetheless a lightgun game
This is my daily reminder that Arlo doesnt really know what hes talking about
@@ListlessWitherafter seeing the divisive reactions to TotK, I’m betting many people are now glad they never got that TP sequel.
This is only kind of related, but a friendly reminder that the Sheik game that was cancelled was nowhere near as cool as people speculated it might be, something DYKG also covered.
That doesn't take away from the fact that it absolutely could have been though
@@savaget2058 It was a motion controlled Whac-a-Mole. In the DYKG video on it, one of the devs even describes how it just wasn't fun
@@druidt8949 My point is the concept of a game where you play as Sheik could have been amazing. Just because the gimmick they cooked up wasn't doesn't mean you give up altogether.
Imagine an Assassins Creed esque game as Zelda set during the time skip in OoT. Sounds like more fun then making clones of beds and trampolines...
I’m sorry :(
@@savaget2058 How about you wait until that game actually comes out and tasks you with mastery of that ability before you trash it?
I get that Retro Studios had all hands on deck for Metroid Prime 4, but the fact that Donkey Kong won't have a single new title for the entirety of the Switch generation despite being one of the longest in Nintendo console history is bit disheartening. There's no reason Nintendo couldn't grant permission to another studio to make a new game, especially after their full acquisition of Next Level Games or the growing partnership with Bandai/Namco. DK platformers are arguably the best in the genre, and while Super Mario Wonder did an excellent job that shouldn't be an excuse for sleeping on the Great Ape.
I think they consider the expansion of the mario and rabbids 1 they did to be new dk content
Also it’s possible something drops in the September direct
imo the DKC games were always better than the 2D mario games that came out on the same console. every single time.
edit: whoops, just remembered the donkey kong land games exist. mario land 2 easily wins that fight lol
Even 3rd party’s are too busy with their own ip they own probably, so it would make it even harder to find a decent place to give it too
I think there was a core strategy to port everything from the WiiU. Tropical Freeze was one of those, Nintendo wants all of us to pretend the U never happened, so with that in mind DKTF is a Switch game. and they probably didnt want to cannibalize sales against DKTF, so they didnt begin dev work on a new title. by the time its sales slowed down, they didnt wanna commit a full development to it, i think they want to test the waters with this new port.
Surprised you didn't mention that Velan has ALREADY collaborated with Nintendo, they developed Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, that AR track builder a couple years back. Studios got a good future imo, used to work in the same building as em and they seemed like nice people.
Odds are high they'll work together again as well. If I remember correctly, someone even managed to find a LinkedIn post tied to their head of HR or some similar position where they were advertising working on a famous and globally recognizable IP. Granted, they did a Hot Wheels game already, but Nintendo's not often one to cut ties with partner studios these days. I think the most recent one was Monster Games, and I heard murmurs that had something to do with an internal leak tied to someone working there?
Oh, is that so? Well then maybe it is possible they are working on this again
@@instinctive3066not likely because the studio is in a tight position right now, might experience some layoffs
Lmao as if that “game” qualifies them in any way
We never got to be lathered in coconut cream pie..
One day..one day we will..I promise you. :)

Yo...
@@digitaltailsmon4096 I recommend Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair, and Kaze the Wild Masks, their based on DKC.
Lathered?
Having worked at a studio that’s developed games for Nintendo IP, and having worked at Activision, sometimes the legality for these things can be messy. If the powers that be decide to cancel a project, the publisher doesn’t necessarily always have access to that repository unless it’s explicitly stated in the contract. Not to mention any characters that were specifically created for that game in particular could partially be owned by the developer, not Nintendo (see Astor from Age of Calamity or Shez and Arval in Three Hopes).
After Activision decided to pull the plug, it’s possible that Nintendo couldn’t do anything about it. Couldn’t touch the code because they didn’t have repo access nor a concept that too similar because of the rights to the project.
A reminder that DK Vine originally broke this story and they’ve got a great podcast that goes into even more in-depth detail about this game.
Hyle Russel is the content king. Never short on episode ideas. DK Vine be praised
I did talk about DK Vine lots in the video FYI.
@@LiamRproductions I know, but it wasn’t mentioned in Arlo’s video
You know what’s the worst cancellation of all time.
Mega Man Legends 3. Its cancellation has left a Scar on Capcom compared to all the games Nintendo has cancelled.
They cancelled it because they didn’t feel the audience demand was big enough to justify going into full production.
@@lalehiandeity1649 That was done because of tone deafness tho.
They said people weren't interested, but the ways they interacted with the people were for non important things like asking "What skins do you want?" Which put the people off.
At least that's what I remember.
@@ReikuYin That sounds less like Capcom and more like Inafune.
@@lalehiandeity1649Inafune is a bitch. He made Mighty No 9 and now NFT’s, 2 failures in a row, he fell off so hard, all because no longer liked his job at Capcom.😭💀
@@lalehiandeity1649 It was Capcom, just look at how many expensive cosmetics all of their games have had since then.
You know, I have a funny story about this. Back before the gamecube came out, there was a new cover on it and it mentioned two games: "A game where Luigi has to save Mario, defeating ghosts with a vacuum." and "Donkey Kong Racing, a sequel to Diddy Knog racing where you ride on animals." So .... I told my older brother about this and he didn't believe me... later he said, he did believe me about Donkey Kong racing, but not the Luigi's ghost game.
........
Looking back, it's ironic huh? Given which one came out and which one was cancelled.... :^)
Conceiving a game is only half the battle. Convincing an executive holding their purse strings tight that your idea will make bank is the other half. Never underestimate the psychological factor of game creation.
Right now I'm just hoping for Donkey Kong 64 to be put on the NSO service.
Yeah, same here!
And Diddy Kong racing !!
@@treychampagne1631 BOTH WOULD BE AWESOME ON NSO!!! :D
Because I'm an overtly optimistic dreamer with no grasp of reality, verging on the edges of full-blown schizophrenia, I keep fantasizing about N64 golden era Rare remakes, similar to the remade Crash/Spyro trilogies. Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, and of course, Donkey Kong 64. Imagine a Rareware Remade collection with actual, full-blown remakes of all of the N64 classics. I salivate at the thought.
Well, it was just announced that another Donkey Kong game is coming to NSO. It’s Donkey Kong jr. Math! Congratulations! 😂
Finding out the next Skylanders title was actually in development before Imaginators flopped hurts my soul so hard. We knew imaginators had a scrapped large update, but there was a dedicated open world game?! Man…
I didn’t even know there was another 3D Donkey Kong game in some form of development
I don't think it made it beyond the concept stage.
same
Wild that you'd never mentioned that Nintendo had Velan made Mario Kart Live! Nintendo has Rapport with them! And rapport got their attention with a perfectly Nintendo Gimmick!
Which, despite it's gimmick, is still a very polished experience!
Kept waiting on him to bring that up haha. Literally seemed like the “aha” moment the whole video was building up to
That's because Arlo think Nintendo develop everything.
Nintendo needs to get over their gimmick crap. How about just give us a new game in a series without forcing stupid gimmicks.... How about just more of what was good...
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271that how you get boring 2d Mario being made 24/7 through out the new Mario bros era would you want that again? I bet not
Maybe it could come back! People thought that Dread and Prime 4 were dead, and look at us now!😊
Same for Mario & Luigi
The founders of Vicarious Visions founded Velan Studios and managed to secure a partnership with Nintendo for Mario Kart Live, and apparently people spotted them advertising working with a prominent and famous IP on LinkedIn not that long ago? So they may very well at least be working on another Nintendo game
People thought Prime 4 was dead? I thought we had just collectively agreed to pretend we forgot about it so they would be lured into finally giving us more info on it like with a child playing hide and seek. Dread though, definitely.
I think that's because we fans kept at it. Keep it up, give DK his 3D dream game
Dread was a unique case where even Nintendo confirmed its existence and cancellation.
Dread only came back because Nintendo tested out a studio before giving them the real deal. Nintendo already has plenty of studios who can make that DK game, but still choose not to do so.
Mp4 and Mario & Luigi werennever confirmed dead.
Also, it is never a good idea to expect the ONE case where a game dies and got ressurected by Nintendo ot be the new normal.
Velan Studios are the ones behind Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
They’re also behind the shooter Knockout City, which now is being kept up by fans.
Time for us Nintendo fans to show Donkey Kong more love! We demand a new 3D (or 2D) game with a new David Wise score!
I recommend Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair, and Kaze the Wild Masks, their based on DKC.
All I want is a DK game with K. Rool and the old baddies. Oh and Dark Souls 4.
Hope this gets a second chance. I actually loved DK 64 and would love to see a spiritual successor to that.
it really does suck, Vicarious Visions is such a talented group of developers, and it's so sad not only what happened to the game but also about them getting absorbed:(( So much talent wasted into bigger projects instead of smaller, more stylized products
He he here we go
Donkey Kong you know him well
He's finally back to kick some tail
His gun can fire in spurts and he can shoot ya
He's bigger, faster stronger too
The leader of the DK crew
The baffled Kong performing Hallelujah
I only realized the melody until the last line. It was a whiplash of amazement and confusion.
And then there's Chunky!
he's dead
My mind went from poorly translated to pure genius in an instant
This Kong's got style, so listen dudes
She shrinks in size to suit her mood
She's one cool Kong, you'll not be wrong to choose her
She'll skip, and hop, and make you clap
But love is not a monkey rap
It's a quick and it's a nimble hallelujah
It was called project "FREEDOM" because DK had a gun, and he was all out of coconuts.
DK has been treated very oddly for the entire Switch generation literally the only games that have anything to do with his series he’s had on the system are re-releases
Never did I think Arlo would cover the topic that came from a DYKG video
Why not? He’s literally always covered these topics
@@BahhBahhBrownSheep guess I’m just surprised he covered this one so late
It really sucks. If Vicarious Visions could do a good job with the GBA Crash games and the NSane Trilogy. I could’ve seen them do a good job with DK. Hell, I’d have been interested in seeing them do a new DKC considering that again, they also made the GBA Crash games.
Naughty Dog confirmed that DKC inspired the whole Crash franchise. This explains why Dingodile reminds me of K rool.
@@orangeslash1667 Crash Bandicoot 1-3 was pretty much the PS1's answer to the DKC trilogy.

Did square space recently start requiring that partners do their sponsor DURING the run of a video? :/
Yeah it’s really bad for the flow of the video. I have no problem watching an ad before a video, but during it is another story.
If only people didn’t treat Tropical Freeze as “Another damn Donkey Kong” we could’ve gotten that and five more DK games by now.
But this is also like years old news lol
I totally agree. Donkey King works best in 2D. But people hate 2D games and look down on the format. Where are our “real games” they say
It's interesting the people who worked on this went on to found Velan, since they've now worked with Nintendo themselves. They developed Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, so it's not entirely impossible for them to also work on other Nintendo projects like a version of this cancelled game.
Velan's already worked with Nintendo they helped develop Mario Kart Live Home Circuit
Arlo don't look and know anything about the games Nintendo releases. He thinks Nintendo does everything in development.
@@ausgod538What? You're just making things up now, obviously arlo doesnt think every nintendo published game is solely developed by nintendo
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I just don't think a 3D DK game made by Vicarious Visions would have been anything better than a 6/10 at best. The concept and aesthetics could be cool but the actual platforming and level design wouldn't have that Nintendo-tier craft. The N-Sane trilogy which they made was notorious for its awful hitboxes and weird movement, and this is when they already had level design taken care of since it was a remake.
If it was instead going to have been made by the Tropical Freeze devs still at Retro, or one of Nintendo's internal studios, it would have been a much bigger loss.
Wait really? I heard N-Sane trilogy was really good
Fun and Hopeful Fact: Nintendo has actually already collaborated with Velan for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, in fact it was even their very first game. It’s very possible Nintendo might still be working on that DK game alongside Velan, especially considering a good amount of the talent from Vicarious moved over there.
Some Toys for Bob members also joined Velan after Skylanders Imaginators was discontinued earlier than planned. They were primarily responsible for the RFID Toy design and are not involved with TFB's post-Skylanders projects.
Petition for square space to put their ad back at the beginning of the video so it’s easier to skip
Nintendo when people jump to think that they were the ones who canceled the game: “I don’t know what’s happening to me.
I’m getting all the blame for things I didn’t do…”
Playing as Pauline in a Donkey Kong Country game sounds absolutely epic. This character is well known to be gaming's first Damsel In Distress, being kidnapped by A Younger Cranky Kong. The idea of her teaming up with the DK crew despite what Cranky put her through in the 80s sounds like it would be Zuko levels of outstanding character development.
I’m really sad about this. I grew up playing the Returns Duology and was so excited to hear about a 3D Donkey Kong game. Its sad that the game got cancelled, but I mean hey, who knows, maybe we’ll see a 3D Donkey Kong game someday
Donkey Kong 64 exists
So basically they were making a Donkey Kong Sonic game?
Grinding / Sliding on mossy branches seems like the most natural addition to a new DK game and specially a 3D one, I feel like everyone has imagined a game were you can replicate the iconic scenes of Disney Tarzan doing just that. I think only Sonic Adventure 2 has come close to it.
It sucks when that happens. Especially if it’s a game series you love.
Yeah...
(looks at own username)
Retro Studios was once gonna make a first-person Megaman X game. There's some footage floating around, but it got cancelled.
This is old news, DK Vine covered this a year ago. Donkey Kong Freedom could still be real though, just because Activision scrapped what Vicarious Visions was conceptualizing doesn't mean Nintendo couldn't actualize the project. Metroid Dread eventually saw the light of day.
Maybe if Ninty fans hadn't been so Anti-Tropical Freeze, this could have happened sooner.
Yooooooooo, DK VINE!!!!!!
Wait anti-freeze what now? I’ve heard nothing but praise for that game as one of the best 2D platformers EVER. I didn’t know there was anything but praise or indifference to it out there.
@@ElOctyWhen Tropical Freeze released back on the Wii U, there was a lot of 2D platformer fatigued.
Even games that weren’t 2D felt like 2D platformers in spirit, like Mario 3D World.
So initial reception to Tropical Freeze was lukewarm.
Fans eventually came around as the came was extremely well-crafted and featured genuinely difficult challenges. Plus by the time it was ported to Switch, Nintendo was out of its 2D malaise-era and the market felt less over-saturated.
@@ElOctySTILL one of the greatest 2d platformers of all time baby😎 tropical freeze sweeep
@ElOcty if I remember a Scott the Woz video correctly, the issue was that people were complaining at the time that it was yet another 2D platformer, not really truly showing off the strength of the Wii U.
Metroid was brought back stronger than ever on Switch, so maybe on Switch2, DK will come back swinging!
Image if Sunshine, Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, 3D World and Odyssey did not exist.
Image SM64 was the newest, and only, 3D Mario to this day.
That's how it is for 3D Donkey Kong.
I think remastering DK64 or remaking DK64 could be a good idea It would be one of those tests that studios do where they see if the game sells well and then if it does then they green light another project like it.
I would love to have a DK Game in the style of Kirby and the forgotten land. The art style and level design could be the same as in the new country games. I would prefer that to a full 3d open world dk, which may sound great for hardcore dk fans, but not for the average casual player tbh.
Can't wait for "Puppet gets scared of Monkey running in the jungle" in 2030
I know that you're making a joke about that FromSoft Kirby deal, but that genuinely does sound like it'd be a huge sticking point between them: Nintendo doesn't wanna make Kirby too difficult, vs Miyazaki who's said in interviews that he can't hold himself back from adding tons and tons of toxic swamps in his games. It'd definitely be a cool crossover though
Kirby and the Poison Swamp... It's everything I need and more.
I'd like to see it happen, but Kirby just inhales all the poisonous swamp water and becomes Poison Kirby. Problem solved!
Honestly a Souls-like game but with Kirby just inhaling all the messed up creatures and like... turning into a giant snake merged with a human face, but instead of a bearded dude it's just Kirby's giant, vacuously smiling face going "hiii~!" while a wicked snake god talks about how much he wants to devour the world... if only we lived in a world where that was possible...
For me, that game is Mega Man Legends 3 ...
The first two games were a special experience with really wonderful characters, writing, voice acting, and an *incredibly* charming world. I still think about all the fun mini-games those titles had to this day ... and now I suddenly have the itch top do another playthrough. 😂😂😂
I love 3D exploration games but I feel like DK should be more like Nintendo's Crash Bandicoot, think about it, linear levels running forward sometimes to the sides or towards the camera, using different Kongs, riding animals, breaking barrels to get fruit (bananas), explosive barrels... it's basically Crash, plus that gameplay is way more popular with the masses.
Forgot to mention: Velan were the ones behind Mario Kart Live Home Circuit! So they did collaborate with Nintendo.
That new DK Game by Nintendo EDP better be a 3D platformsr that takes heavy inspiration on whatever Vicarious Project could've been.
There's hope that Velan Studios is helping Nintendo with the new DK game knowing how they already have a good involvement after developing that Mario Kart toy game
I like to imagine after the Metroid Prime 4 stuff and all the Mario RPG releases (TTYD remake especially), Nintendo just said:
“Arlo ain’t gonna miss this, he’s already eatin good”
The 3D DK of my dreams exists on the N64.
It's my second favorite game of all time just behind Half-Life as my number one favorite game.
It’s okay, 3D DK will return one day soon. I got a good feeling about it.
I just thought of the perfect name for this project, "Donkey Kong Country: Concrete Jungle"
Damn it, I just made the cancelation sting more.
I’ve spent hours and hours of my life watching my mom play DK 64 over and over again. So many good memories at 5,10,15, and 20+ and the thought that I could’ve had that but with a fresh new experience is absolutely maddening.
Donkey Kong is a Mario quality franchise, but with Pikmin sales.
Not on SNES, N64 and Wii. He just needs a great on the right system
This is 99% pure, refined copium but what if in the next direct a 3D DK gets announced for 2025 and both it and MP4 act as the glorious swansong to the system.
Also as much as I want a new DK of any kind, I feel like Freedom specifically would not appeal to me which is sad.
Velan developed Mario Kart: Home Circuit, so they already have experience with Nintendo. It'd be cool if they could make the DK game they were working on at Vicarious Visions.
Fromsoft making a kirby game would be hilarious 😂
I highly recommend everyone here to go and watch the DidYouKnowGaming video Arlo linked in the description. Its a must watch to truly understand what an injustice this all was.
Am I the only one still hoping for a dk64 remake?
Friendly reminder that Star Fox Zero’s controls were not a gimmick. They served a practical purpose of allowing for a cinematic presentation without sacrificing SF’s core gameplay.
Velan recently laid off a sizable chunk of their staff after a game being developed with an external partner was cancelled. I wonder what that was
But wait Arlo there is a chance. Velan worked on the Mario Kart live: home circuit. They still have a connection to Nintendo.
RIP Senran Kagura 7even. It hurts. It hurts SOOO much.
A reminder Arlo.
Velan Studios made Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.
THERES STILL A CHANCE.
Honestly, a jungle infested city would be a great way to return Donkey Kong to his roots with items and graphical notes of girders, barrels, oil drums, etc.
It gets a ton of hate, but DK64 is probably my most nostalgic childhood video game outside of Pokémon games. I’ve been dying for a 3D DK, even though I’ve hardly ever gotten into any of the 2D games.
Feels like there could be a cool connection to the city idea and Mario Odyssey's New Donk City? Even if they used a similar physics engine to Odyssey, I feel like that would be an incredible movement based DK game!
If he had bananas 🍌 on his feet,
would they not be called “slippers”?
This joke was low hanging fruit, Arlo!
Imagine if Velan approached Nintendo about resuming Project Freedom.
I mean… Toys For Bob is now an independent studio, who also worked on Skylanders and Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Either then or Velan would be awesome to try and get Project Freedom going again.
I just went to watch the full report and came back here, and conveying it as fully greenlit by Nintendo is misrepresenting it. It was a demo they were working on and receiving feedback on, that seemed to be on the way to a full greenlight. But was killed primarily by Activision's lack of interest in original projects and desire to maximize GaaS like CoD or Destiny 2 like you do say later. Maybe one day Velan Studios will beestablished enough that they can revive the pitch and GO FOR IT. It sounds like Sonic Frontiers before Sonic Frontiers and likely with a lot more polished movement and aesthetics. Also keep an eye out for stuff from Magic Soup Studios, another new studio formed by Jen O'Neal who finally had enough with the harassment and underpayment from Activision-Blizzard and is trying to start a new thing too. She was the former head of VV who led an attempt to make a new Spyro game, though sadly as an open world multiplayer game because they were desperate to get ActiBlizzard to greenlight ANYTHING.
And thank you for the Penny's Big Breakaway mention at 10:00 via the b-roll the game is just incredible I hope so much we see more from Evening Star.
🎵amd it goes on and on and on! It's the return of the return of Donkey kong (yeah!) 🎵
🎶 I clap my hands up in the air sometimes! Thank you Retro and Nintendo! 🎶

Arlo, would you Donkey a Kong?
I'm sorry
@LleytonSPD huh no
Anyone else still keep their 3DS in their pocket all day every day?
I've recently started thinking about how cool it would be if a 3D DK tok some inspiration from Ratchet and Clank and feature upgradeable weapons. Could bring back the coconut gun, the bongos, the bananarang from Mario + Rabbids, and even new ones like spears or crossbows that shoot fruit or something.
A 3D DK game, focused on movement and building up momentum, set in an overgrown cityscape? I'm callin this Donkey Kong and the Forgotten Frontiers
Movement based donkey Kong game, where you grind on rails and swing around in a post apocalyptic city overgrown with vines... sounds great! Sounds perfect! … sounds a hell of a lot like Sonic Frontiers.
One BIG aspect you forgot to mention about Velan studios, they haven't lost their relationship with Nintendo!!!! Velan developed Mario Kart: Home Circuit directly after being formed, so clearly the people at Nintendo still see promise in them. Perhaps this game idea could make a resurgence with the same team they originally planned it with!
A 3D Donkey Kong game that is NOT like the collect a thon mess that was DK64, would be something I'd definitely be interested in
Oh man, this is wild. Just finished watching the DYKG video. The folks at VV definitely deserve better, and the opportunity to continue working on Donkey Kong Freedom.
Maybe one day we'll finally see a new 3D DK game!
15:19 nah actually it was proto-rockstar and it used the SNES mouse.
Im still surpried we never got a 3d dk or kirby game (at least sooner for kirby)
The hypothetical DK game with grinding on vines in a decrepit city kind of reminds me of Sonic Frontiers.
According to DK Vine, the most recent DK project was pushed to another team or something like that. That was the last I heard of it. To clarify, I don't know if this was started after the game you're talking about or not. I'd say reach out to DK Vine if you're curious
in the end this cancellation was to spite Arlo 😭
First the Gamecube Kirby, then Mega Man Legends, and now DK 3D.
I wonder if King K. Rool would have a role. I really miss that guy.
Not getting my hopes up or anything, but after Retro is done with MP4 they could make a DK game again.
Even another 2D DK would be nice.
Well, we’ll always have Donkey Kong 64
A movement based 3D DK based in an overgrown city does sound fun but it also sound like a Spiderman game.
The Kirby joke at the end really cracked me up XD
The irony that in a video where you talk about how hearing about a canceled game you imagined of crushes your hopes of it ever happening even further, you crushed one of my dream games 😭
Not that I'm blaming you ofc, just that hearing the idea of an open world Skylander game is setting off so much dopamine in my brain that got immediately cut off by the reminder that Activision/Blizzard is Activision/Blizzard. Hearing about this DK game was hard too, but that one line? Straight through the heart
Here's hoping our copium is rewarded some day
Well, at least we have Black Myth Wukong on the way. I dunno if it has a Funky Mode, but Sunny Kong looks extremely fun to play, and switching Kongs without a tag barrel is awesome. :D
I'm surprised we never got anything for DK's 40th anniversary, which was 2021 I want to say. Considering that DK is Nintendo's oldest child, if there was no DK, there'd probably be no Nintendo as we see it today. Not even a tweet or anything. Every other series hitting a milestone anniversary like 30 or 35 or 20 or whatever got at a port, new game, remaster, or whatever, all the fanfare and bells and whistles. DK's 40th just came and went like nothing, and the Donkey Kong Country section at Super Nintendo World wasn't officially announced until like 2024 despite it being known about since SNW opened, through datamining and aerial photography.
This is SHATTERED MY SOUL. DK and Star Fox are my favorite Nintendo IPs. First Star Fox Gran Prix sounded incredible to me, I'm a huge arcade racing fan. And now an open, movement-centric DK game? I'm picturing Nintendo's Spider-Man, and that honestly has the potential to be one of the best games ever.
Now I just have to live with this info???
I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope this returns in some form
Star Fox Gran Prix was a fake rumour
Honestly, the idea sounds too good to be true. The vibe-surfing is ripped straight from Disney’s Tarzan movie. People have attempted something like this for a while, but the closest “Movement-Focused” game to release is Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Maybe one day a developer will crack it, but it honestly sounds like a fancier-looking rail-grinder section from Ratchet & Clank.
