We had a 2017 Highlander and loved it. Now we have the 2022 Highlander SLE and we are in love all over again. This is a wonderful SUV. THANK YOU TOYOTA
Really? i have the 2017 highlander le plus and i feel like the suspension gets upset over very broken pavement, i then test drove a 2022 highlander xle and felt like i was driving the same 2017 vehicle... even the suspension wasn't as smooth as i was expecting
I still drive 2005 Highlander and love it
I bought one, paid $5k above sticker and then learned that 2022 is the last year for the V6. Glad I got mine.
Same here. Just got mine yesterday.
I have this XLE FWD 2022. It was so good, so smooth, sporty look, Engine feel so powerful. Highly recommend 👌
Thank you for reviewing the most popular version of Highlander. Many reviewers jump into the top versions which makes their videos look like advertisements, not to mention that they spend a lot of the time talking about features not available on anything but the top version. This was very no-nonsense informative and well put together.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the review! 😁
@@CarConfections I just bought a 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE 2 weeks ago and it's fantastic I love it. It's the first Toyota I've had since I turned 17 and purchased a 1979 Toyota Celica. That thing was a tank. I loved driving it. I was wondering about the Toyota Highlander XLE if it had a power cord outlet in the rear of the car. Do you possibly have an answer on that for me??. I was looking for them for a while but I came up empty. Is there one back there. Great video on the explanation of the vehicle I appreciated it. Thank You!!!
Reviewers are raving about the Kia Telluride but the Highlander has a proven track record regarding reliability while the Telluride is new and no track record. The Highlander may not have the space the Telluride has in the back but it has a reputation of lasting almost forever.
Correct👌
You got to drive telluride to see how awesome it is. It’s a beast and not even Acura MDX comes close to it. Reliability wise I live Toyota.
@@cachegrk Hyundai family has a reputation of using cheap quality body materials, which will be smashed into pieces in an accident just like their heavy vehicle Universe Express Noble.
On the other hand Highlander hybrid is 50% more efficient m
Just ordered a new white highlander because you and so many other reviews of it. Test drove one and fell in love with it. The powertrain is silky smooth power. The suspension works incredible compared to our chevy transverse which doesn't even come close to the highlander ride. Thank you for a great review and the nuts and bolts of it. Straight shooting reveiews is what I want and you deliver.
Glad you enjoyed the review 👍
I have to say car confections is the only car channel I use to reveiw cars and all the time its amazing ,and my dad has a 2012 toyota highlander an he is trying to change this year
I always love your car review. This updated 2022 highlander looks better than previous year especially with the front grill and body lines. A top family SUV with good reliability.
One love from Nigeria 🇳🇬

I'm loving the sky in this video. The pearl white amongst they dreary gray skies
Like a 2 months ago this car was my Uber, they were going 80 on the highway and it felt very comfortable and quiet I was very impressed
You guys give great, detailed reviews. I'm currently deciding between the Highlander and RX and your reviews of both vehicles are super helpful.
Glad to hear that, thanks!
Cross shopping same vehicles.
@@CarConfections I looked up this video for the same reason. Thanks to your review I am putting the Highlander highest on my list.
Thank you so much for a great in depth review. My husband and I are considering upgrading from my 2012 Highland Limited. I have had 2 Highlanders and without question I'm getting another. I have traveled far and been thru bad weather and this car has always made me feel safe;, and as I have a bad back, the seat adjustments are awesome. Since you just told me the Highlander is still one of the greatest SUV's out there, I just have to choose a color. For me that's the hard part LOL.
Definitely a black or red highlander is so pretty!
Solid review, that was informative. I was gonna pick this one up this Fall, but people are paying MSRP or above. I think I'll wait out the chip shortage and the prices come back to earth.
Just order one., You will not pay anymore than last year. Only if you need one ASAP will you have to pay extra.
@@matrixist how do you order one?
Damn above MSRP? LOL
I feel like below MSRP will be available by mid year. Already there are cars in allocation that are not spoken for.
@@byronbranch4645 No way you need to pay above MSRP. But not finding anything lower yet.
This is great crossover SUV. However, 3rd row seats and cargo space are too small.
I love the 2022 Toyota Highlander! It’s very nice! I enjoyed the bloopers lol 😂
I'm 1 year late! But it's still a good buy bro.
I have the 2021 and bought 4 or 5 months ago ….I honestly don’t see any big changes……..it’s just the same car ….they just switch year to confuse consumers but, I love the car ….honestly it’s worth it & here in Maryland….they have a good resell values ….my dad sold his old Toyota Highlander with an amazing price …..he whipped it more than 6 years…..It’s has a good value compared to European luxury.
Great review on the highlander. Keep up the good work there.
Thanks!

And thats why they put some smiles on it
As someone who just took one of these on a 13 hour drive through snow, rain, dirt and gravel roads, here's my input on some negatives: The seats are pretty uncomfortable after a few hours. I has to keep adjusting and pulling over since it was killing my back. The button layout on the steering wheel is actually dangerous. There are so many buttons on each side and there's no difference in texture to help you differentiate between them so you have to keep taking your eyes off the road to see what you are hitting. Although the bright lights are great in perfect weather, through a snow storm they were TERRIBLE as they made it almost impossible to see the road since they reflected off the snow like crazy and I ended up turning off all the lights except the fog lights to be able to see. Also note that you will be getting flashed with high beams about every 4th car since they think you will have your brights on since the regular lights are so bright which is good for the driver to see but VERY annoying on a long trip that every 30 seconds someone is flashing their high beams at you. Another thing is the seatbelt unbuckled sound. It also goes off for people in the back seat so if someone is trying to take a nap on a long trip and lay down, good luck as the beeping noise will keep that from happening. Seems like its a great short distance vehicle but was one of the worst I've driven for a long trip and I've driven plenty.
Agree. Additionally, the 12.3 display is too dim and reflectiveness a problem under most conditions
Great points
You said the seats are uncomfortable. What model do you have? Does it have lumbar? How tall are you? Are the seats to short and therefore don't offer leg/hamstring support? Thinking about buying one, except I'm over 6'4". Thanks
@@103eaglecrest I drove the 2022. Not sure what trim it was but it did have leather seats that were pretty hard so were really uncomfortable after a few hours of driving and had to keep shifting myself around to try to get comfortable. I’m 6’2” so hopefully close enough to your height to be relatable. I’ve driven plenty of Toyotas on long trips but this for long trips was enjoyable. It’s has a lot of adjustments available but it was how hard the seats were overall. Hope this helps!
Amd rhe center console will turn your right knee to hamburger. The infotainment system sucks. You have to have your phone plugged in to get android auto.
Great review of a very reliable, comfortable family car. Congrats on attracting 260k subscribers - you guys are really great reviewers; I always enjoy your posts! Thanks!
If only the third row was bigger…
@@toyotagazooracer4455 it would be a minivan
@@markperkins5382 Lol
This thing is huge. Barely fits through the Beltway tollbooth. I like the soft touch of the steering wheel. And the fact it has the compass built right into the display… had no negotiating room due to chip shortage, except for my trade in value was solid. Got the AWD Limited trim (the (1) one that was on the lot available) With all these crazy weather storms…. What’s missing is seeing someone really off road in this thing on a commercial.. it’s like driving a bus. That would be some comedy.. it is big and bulky. But I believe the sos button is somewhat handy and the remote start. Heated window wiper blades. Plus it has locate
My vehicle in the toyota app thing so LoJack isn’t needed… I mean I am no mechanic but..
and only time will tell if I made a good purchase. Extended warranty and can move on now to more imp things. Anything.
Leased a 23 platinum extreme comfort, luxury & power with the 4cyl turbo!!
They should go back to the boxy design and give us the glass opening ability on the tailgate.
So Far, I'm liking The Buy. I got it 2 weeks ago from Toyota of Bowie! They were Awesome! Maryland Finest.
Got a 2022 Platinum three weeks ago. I call it my EarthLink. You failed to mention that the non-hybrid now has a 120 volt outlet.
did you pay above msrp for the highlander. i here that they cost $10-15k above msrp
This is a nice lifted sienna without the convenience of the sliding minivan doors.
I’m glad to see the power passenger seat for 2022 is finally height adjustable. Well done Toyota. My Camry has that
Also car confections one thing: I believe the 360 cam comes with the 12.3 in screen. So if you get the limited w that option you get the 360 cam
Me and my family drove that car to Reno and me and my brother sat in the 3rd row, not even halfway there my legs were dead…
we always had a crv , the kids are getting bigger , 14, 15 yrs old, we need more room, and looking forward to the QUITE RIDE/ INTERIOR.
The coupons tickled me.... I am not mad! I got mine yesterday and its a little costly so we'll need those coupons 🤣🤣
😂😂
This car is huge
This was my first choice to get my 1st 3rd row SUV with quality and reliability since i was a fan of toyota since 2004 (owner of celica gts 2004 and rav4 2012 Le).i already got quoted for highlander XSE 2021 for $43k after i test drove it,but i told the dealer that i'll be back for it tomorrow.but within the same day,i went straight to hyundai dealership since palisade was really getting my attention since the first released and seeing it on the road eith their unique DRL.i test drove it and see all the difference compare to this highlander XSE im almost getting, then upon my surprise, interior is bigger on palisade and even quality (SEL trim only) and saw the calligraphy is already like a premium.exterior shape is the palisade also wider and look muscular front+side+rear.tech of highlander seems outdated compare to palisade.so i end up getting the palisade with 10yr warranty that toyota only gives 5yr.yes you toyota fan will still say reliability on hyundai might be wack compare to #1 toyota, well as i said im also a diehard fan of toyota and i dont think hyundai has a bad reliability to begin with, they are better reliability compare to those premium Mercedesbenz and bmw and all american brand cars.also they wont give 10yr warranty if their stuffs are easily to be break (not unless uf you are a person who breaks stuffs often/irresponsible on things you own). Well ill be waiting to new facelift of palisade next year (2023 release) to trade mine on for the top trim this time (calligraphy).go check it out and test drive it first before you judge hyundai even kia, especially the premium genesis.
My brother has the same 2022 model pearl white that thing on the top. Now i want to know more from you after knowing he bought yesterday 🤘🏻
Interior noise sounded loud in the video but are you saying that it doesn't seem loud compared to many other vehicles? Such as the Pilot? Passport? CX-5? ... ??
Put our deposit down on one today! Cant wait to get it!! Upgrading from a rav
It’s a fine car, but still kinda needs to catch up with competitors
Thanks for the helpful review. I’ll by this one
Awesome job on the review!! Thx!
I like this Car it's called Toyota Highlander👍🚘🇯🇵🇺🇸😎👫👭
I have the 2021 Platinum. Nice car!
Highlander vs CX9 vs Palisade, which one is best to own?
Toyota , if you work hard for your money
I would take this over the telluride anytime. Especially now with all the issues that have surfaced with telluride and palisade.
The v6 isn’t as smooth as the hybrid but I don’t doubt it will go 200k miles. It’s the same v6 as the previous gen.
I’m thinking about getting this. I turned one down a few weeks ago. Put a “2 rough country lift on it.
I personally think the front end looks ugly but it looks good from the side and rear end. Hopefully Toyota will do a better job with the refresh like they did with the last generation.
Check out the XSE. Completely different front fascia.
I agree… the front looks “sad” to me… like it’s frowning
This is my problem with this truck. The front looks so ugly. The xse is so much better but I want the options of the limited or platinum.
2022 best Highlander love it ❤️ may be I’ll buy
The jeep said to him: I think you should change ur ways try putting smiles on it young car...
Question!! Heard in the 22 on the platinum & maybe the limited ,they put in height adjustment on the passenger side ??
Where is the spare wheel and flat tire kit ? How to hook up the phone for the GPS ?
This is the Kluger in the land down under.
2022 XSE- does it have heated steering wheel?
Toyota the best car ever 😊
I don't know why Toyota doesn't improve the quality of the rear camera.(cars looks great ,but the resolution of the reversing camera is horrendous, even the one on my 2019 forester looks very sharp.)
Like # 15. Driving a 2018 Atlas SEL and love it but looking at the Hilander Hybrid ....
I personally would walk by the Highlander hybrid. The reason for that is because the sienna hybrid now exists
Sure it’s a minivan and they have their stigma but remember that the base sienna LE hybrid fwd starts at the same price as the base Highlander L v6 fwd at $34K. The base Highlander hybrid LE fwd starts at 38K or 40K for E Awd
Great review as always!😸😸
Hi 2 weeks back i purchased 2023 highlander front wheel drive. It has snow button. I stay in michigan. My friend said we need all wheel drive in michigan. Awd is mandatory for snow or fwd with snow mode is enough plz sugges
Just bought this same color XLE 2022 for 43,800 .
Can’t wait for our Highlander. 6 months to wait
In Ancient times lived a Jump in the Cadillac and back then he DIDNT put smiles on it instead he put frowns on it
Makes me appreciate a little more my 2011 Jeep Laredo, has everything the Highlander has 11 years ago ! Love Toyota also just saying
Today I will tell you about the story of the great battle of the teslas and the Jump in the cacdillac and how he put some smiles on it
Would you recommend this over the Honda Pilot?
The Pilots bigger but otherwise, yes
I want a Toyota Highlander😩😆
It looks short.
At least the grill up front is not like some of the other ones.
I wonder if I can trade in this suv for my 2010 Toyota Corolla le. It still runs good, good condition and clean. The only thing is that it needs a major paint job. Other than that it’s good. I hope I can trade it in for a great seal. I mean they’re Toyotas ☺️
Disappointing they don’t include active trajectory like in Hondas where it is standard across.
Any problem with these trucks? I’m planning on getting one.
Then sadly after 2 days of training the jeep broke down but jump in da cacdillac was ready to fight and put some smiles on it
Mom's is picking this up tomorrow. I said a Subaru but whatever she likes.
Love your reviews
Thanks!
Would you take a Toyota Highlander Limited or Subaru Ascent Touring? I noticed you did a review on both. I’m trying to decide between the two. Thanks for your hardwork!
Glad you enjoyed the videos! Personally, we prefer the Highlander
@@CarConfections Thank you so much! Love the channel!
I think after evaluating everything, I think I will go with Rav4 Limited.
Rav4 is wonderful too. Has same taste of Highlander in smaller size. I had one and it was great.
@@narimanpanahi6196 I chose Highlander Platinum. Was lucky enough to get one hybrid. Very smoothly
Thank you
Waiting for 2023 Highlaner XSE review
I bought a Highlander XLE AWD 2022 about one month ago and already driven it on a vacation for about 5000 miles.
There are a couple of things that are disappointing:
- the low beam of headlights are blinding approaching traffic. As a result they turn on their high beams and blind you which needless to say, puts you in danger.
- the AWD while helping at normal speeds, when you start from standstill on slippery surfaces, doesn't send any power to the rear wheels. We got stuck in the snow with the front wheels slipping while the rear wheels did not even attempt to turn. I had people watching the wheels and also I looked at the display that shows the distribution of torque to the wheels. The front were spinning while the rear were totally dead.
There are a couple more annoying things like the lane departure monitoring alarm which doesn't seem to have an option to turn off the sound, the seat-belt alarm for the middle seats that can not be turned off, relatively short range with one tank of gas, some moldings on the door is already coming off.
If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have bought it. At the price they sell them, it's got to be better options out there.
What trim?
@@awax9221 XLE AWD. I edited my comment to reflect this. Thank you.
@@dorelc. which car would you suggest?
@@kevinpacheco2564 I really don't know for sure, perhaps I would consider the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L or a Subaru Ascent which apparently test consistently better than other cars in situations that require AWD traction.
What I can tell you for sure is that I would not get a Toyota ever again. It took three trips to the dealer until finally they adjusted the headlights properly. About the AWD, I had a hard time convincing them that I had an issue as the computer reads all normal (one of the guys there even asked me if I was sure it was an AWD!!! I told him that I paid for one, it has the AWD badge so you tell me). I suspect that it is a programming matter from manufacturing so it is not going to be addressed unless a lot of people complain about it.
I had also a couple of other small quality issues which I wouldn't have expected from Toyota after the first 5000 miles and one month of driving.
I have a ‘21 Platinum AWD. 12,000 miles 13 months old. No issues…nice vehicle.
Platinum for 47k?.... i saw others that say its 52k... platinum.... Im wondering the real price for platinum.... Im going soon to Ohio, how can I buy this highlander when I get there?
If you get the Hybrid model can you still get captains chairs?
Have a 2021 Limited and want to know what you're missing out on? Illuminated USB-C ports - front and rear. There. Saved you 23 min :)
No real change. I have a '22 Platinum AWD in glazed caramel/white on order and in our trims, only the USB-C and the new blue hued white pearl are the only difference I can find. The lower trims do also get the bonus of the 8 way power passenger seat which is good but our trims already had that. Ultimately I don't mind the wait and at MSRP, got to order it exactly as I want..and years down the road, hopefully I may benefit by going a year new if I sell.
I just ordered my limited, but I actually would prefer the USB type a vs type c. They are both 2.4 amp, but with USB type c I would need specific cords if someone wants to charge their iPhone on a trip, and a different cord for my android, and a different cord for android auto /apple carplay. Where with the type a, I can just tell whomever to bring their charging cord and we are golden!
Also, the passenger seat went from 4 way power to 8 way, adding tilt and height, not important to some, very important to others.
@@cazandmal hopefully Amazon has usb-c to A adapters. Should be easy fix
@@FCM415 they do, and it's not a big deal, just a mild inconvenience.

XSE over all length is 197.4, Limited is 197.4. Where this additional length added in XSE?
It's a very nice car. I do have 1 issue with our XLE, the wireless charger in the center console is a joke. It's too small for either of our phones, the Pixel 6 or iPhone 13. It's possible the phone would barely fit without a case. But no way the pro, pro max, or ultra versions of any major phone would fit on it.
My iPhone 13promax fits perfectly 😊
@@dariusmacer-palmer4128 with a case? My regular iphone 13 with a LifeProof case does not fit.

Same Ole same to me. I work for a Toyota dealership and they are not on my list of new vehicles.
Is the seat in this video Graphite or Black?
It seats 7 people not 8. And these new csrs are small. My 2008 Highlander has alot more room in the middle row and third row
Would you rate the top of the line the limited or platinum similar to the Acura MDX from ride quality , comfort , road noise and wind noise ?? Or highlander will be more into a stiff ride rather than smooth comfort ?
I just went to test drive both MDX and highlander. I was on set of getting MDX but then after the test drive , I was super super sad and disappointed. It was loud and noisy to me. Smaller space than I have expected. Quality of the drive I feel like I was driving my CRV. Then my husband told me that I should go check highlander out. I fell in love with it right away and I can’t believe that it felt a lot better and more comfortable and quieter inside the highlander.
There are no sensors on it when you back up why isn't there
No wireless CarPlay on a 2022? And only the usb A can be used for CarPlay??
The 2023 fixes this issue
Which car is better? Toyota Highlander vs Honda CRV? And why? I'm really struggling to choose...!
HIGLANNDER IS WAY BETTER . HIGLAN DER = HONDA PILOT... HONDA CRV = RAV4.
Does the 22 have the driver seat extension like the 16 use to have. Also can you open just the hatch instead of the whole tailgate ?
No and no. Toyota gave plenty new features but took away a few and those are the main ones that i think they should have kept.
I have the 22 Limited AWD ..My 19 XLE AWD had the extender. I have long legs I was disappointed to figure out it's not available *cries*
