Hell yah.... at times it seems like it just happened yesterday, other times it seems so very long ago. Definitely one of the best times of my life. So much of what we take for granted today was created in that time period. But so much is gone forever... makes me sad that the positive vibe and optimism is long dead and gone.

Yes, Mr. Reagan sure did a lot to help out great nation. My home town went from absolute poverty for well over half of the residents to actually having a small but present "middle class". These days old Ron would be called an "insurrectionist".

Born in '74 i can only speak from a kid's perspective.. it was GREAT. Life wasn't yet sucked out of life... i mean it wasn't yet all in function of productivity, functionality, economics, competition, motivation, expansion, money, greed. Life just went its merry way. It's like we ended up in some horrifying, alternate reality the movie Mad Max tried to warn us for.

I'm Belgian and during those times the U.S had a HUGE impact on us children. Because of the many tv programs such as Dallas, Taxi, Different Strokes, S. & Hutch, Wonder Woman, The Hulk, Mathew Star, Night Rider, Street Hawk and much more.. We played baseball like Americans, BMX bikes became a hype on the count of the E.T movie. I could go on and on. We had subtitles, nothing dubbed so by the time we were 12 we started mimicking Americans... "fuck you"... "asshole"... lol. Cool times. The U.S enjoyed a hell of a lot of popularity here.

I grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s graduating in 1984. I remembered all of this as if was yesterday. I remember well the Apple ad as we did not really understand it and look at what it is today. It was NOTHING. Like it is today, we did not even have saftey seals on products then and we truley did not have the hate, distress or violence like today. Yes we had our problems but it was minimal at its time. We were much more social because we had to have patience and waited for everything because we did not have the technology we have today and we actually experienced the technology boom in the late 80’s. We also had the best TV shows that are all but gone now and will never make a come back. Yes sir ! We were very lucky to have lived the last of the best decades in America.

We had it so good and didn’t even know it. Racism was mostly behind us and we all thought it would only get better. Went about our lives - starting jobs and families and doing hat we thought was right. But somewhere along the way, while we were doing out thing, some people found the path to power was through division. When I looked up I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Manufactured hate. I hardly recognize this place anymore. And it’s all lies.

The majority of the players were in their prime and we thought it was the beginning of a dynasty. Fast forward 37 years and the Tiger faithful are still waiting for another Series win. @@charlesbaldo I was fortunate enough to be at Comerica when the team finally retired Sparky's number. It was long overdue and unfortunately Mike Illitch waited until Sparky had passed away before retiring it. Illitch could hold a grudge and he had a lot of run-in's with Sparky over the years, the biggest one coming when Sparky wouldn't manage the scabs the owners put out there to try and break the strike in 1995. To my knowledge, he was the only manager to refuse to work with replacement players and he was suspended for taking that stand. Anyway, it was really petty of Illitch to wait until Sparky was gone to retire his number and the fans there that day let him know we were not pleased by the delay.
But it was a great day nonetheless. A lot of the players from the club were there that day. Gibby, Jack, Tram, Petry, Rosema. That shot of him signaling "swing away" to Gibby in Game 5 against Goose Gossage after yelling, "He don't wanna walk you," is one of the most iconic moments in Tiger history. I loved what he said about Detroit fans; "If you win even once for them they will love you for life." RIP George, Tiger fans still luv ya.

Sparky was a players coach. His players played hard because they loved him. I was a senior in high school the first half of the year, graduated on June 6th. Joinied the Navy, and found my self on November 11th, in boot camp in Orlando Florida. My dad took me to see all of the movies that were mentioned. There were numerous other great rock and roll albums released that year as well. I remember watching the Wendy's commercial when it first aired. It was also the last great year for really great rock and roll. For the next six years, with the exception of four or five bands, rock and roll music went into intensive care, on life support. But later, grunge and alternative rock instigated a great Resurrection..
