    Very clear tutorial Thanks so much for putting together! 👌 - 2 small questions if you don't mind -
    1. How does one distinguish between use cases of sync and backup? Is it overkill to have a Sync job AND a backup job - especially given that I might be the only one accessing the files in my account?
    2. I see in at 12:41 in the Drive portal, there is a "Computer Backup" folder, but I couldn't see how that was created

    • @WunderTechTutorials
      @WunderTechTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching!
      1. It's hard to say to be honest. A sync job is not a backup job, since issues with the file will sync to your NAS. However, if you're using snapshots on your NAS, you can "fix" any potential issues that might arise. Overall, I suggest having a backup job for your important information. I would certainly say it's NOT overkill to have a sync and a backup job, but where you conduct the backup job IS important. For example, I wouldn't worry about syncing the files from my PC to my NAS AND backing up the same files on my PC to my NAS. However, I WOULD back up the folder location where those files are stored on my NAS to the cloud. This would ensure that the files are moved to my NAS, then backed up to the cloud.
      2. Towards the end of the tutorial, I showed how you can back up a computer using Synology Drive. That's how that file was created!
      Hopefully this helps, but let me know if you have any other questions!

      @@WunderTechTutorials Wow, thanks for the generosity of time and the robust response!
      1. Ok, cool. that was in the plan for me - to go with something like Backblaze or something like that.
      2. Yeah, I had seen that section on the Backup Task - but I see now why I didn't see the "Computer Backup" folder in "My Drive". I was logged in as my administration user and not as the user that I use to run the backup! 😁
      Once again, great video and thanks for taking time to respond.

    COMPLEX Question: I wanna mirror all of my Desktop PC files (4TB with music, pictures), and at a certain point 👉 I will switch to a Laptop with mostly projects/work files which I will want to mirror as well to my NAS, yet, it will be Asymmetrical since I won't carry all of that 4TB data of music/pictures with me on that laptop. So I don't want Synology to erase those 4TB from my desktop PC, since it won't "see them" on my Laptop.
    How can Synology Drive /or/ "Active Backup for Business" Apps- help me pull it off?
    Is it possible to have data that isn't mirrored and data that is mirrored at the same folder even?

    • @WunderTechTutorials

      Yes, on-demand sync is what you're looking for. If you're on Windows, right-click a folder/file and select "free up space" and it'll remove it from the local device but keep it on the NAS. If you don't have those options, you might have to reconfigure the sync task.

The Synology Drive Client seems to backup no more than 640,000 files, as if it is a hard limit. Is that the case? or am I doing something wrong? If it is a hard limit, what are the workarounds? 1. I'm pretty confused between "sync" and "backup." So, let's say I already synced my folder (from my PC) to the NAS. If something happens to my PC, can I still access those files from the NAS using a different or new PC? And then eventually, re-sync that same folder to the that PC you'll be using?
    2. Can this be configured wherein the admin can access all users' sync folders while user's can only access their own?
    Thanks!

    • @WunderTechTutorials
      @WunderTechTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks so much!
      1. A "sync" is basically exactly how it sounds. When a file is modified on your local PC, it will "sync" that file to your NAS. Depending on how you configure it, the "sync" will send it in real-time, whereas the "backup" can be scheduled (or it can be sent in real-time as well). If something happens to your PC, the files will still exist on the NAS. Just be aware that if something happens to the individual files on that PC, they will be "synced" to the NAS first. That's why it's important to set up snapshots as well (I have a video if you're interested in learning about them).
      2. The admin user can login to DSM, go to "homes", then select the username of the user and view their documents inside of the "Drive" folder. By default, users can only access their individual files.
      Hope this helps!

      If you sync, and you accidentally delete or mangle a file on your PC, the sync process will delete or mangle that file on your NAS. Gone forever.
      If you backup your PC with the Synology Active Backup for Business ( I use this for my home files ), and if you accidentally delete or mangle a file, your NAS will, if set up to retain old versions, will have many versions of those accidentally deleted or mangled file going back days, weeks, months or even years if that's how you set it up. You can set up the "photo" folder as a team folder, but then all pictures will be in the shared space (not sure if this is a problem). First off, you should always ensure you have backups before you try anything "new". This will give you the confidence to try and set it up.
