I didn't believe it even when I heard this, so I tested it myself. From round start, the distance Paul backswings approximately halves with one backdash of the opponent.
Yeah I think it's also faster. There's something in the wiki about deep dive entering a 10 frame deadzone where it either adds startup frames to your attacks, or you can't do anything (so cancelling with sidestep doesn't allow you to act, either).
I had no idea i could loop them with the deep sway change, thats so sick actually thank you for this video my neutral will certainly get better from it
he is good in a game where theres characters who not only got a good df1, they got a 6 frame launcher or infinite range plus on block counter hit launchers so who cares ?
Thanks for the video. Any ideas how to do the df1 sway loop consistently? Sometimes, I went into the deep dive stance if i wanted to do df1 sway again. Any visual cues on when to press the df1 again?
No good player is going to just sit there and let you do any of this, watch any high ranked paul player the most you'll see is the back sway cancel back into df+1 - maybe sometimes df+1,1,2 everything else is too slow or too risky
Oh can we do requests? Need a video on df4 pls and ty. I've been gassing up df4 since forever. Having a -2 mid is so much fun. Need more ppl to see the vision.
Hey love your Vids bro, I just started using Paul and this was timely and helpful! Quick question - I can't for the life of me figure out how to side step cancel sway into the FOREGROUND (doesn't matter which side) after DF 1 or WS 1, 2 into sway. Only seems to work for the back ground. Any tips? Seen G.o.D Pauls do it!
Sidestepping to the foreground to cancel sway is literally impossible. Keep in mind if you're playing against someone and they're on P2-side (on your screen) their sway cancel will look like it's to the foreground, cause for you it is (because they're sidestepping left). But on their screen they're P1 side and are in fact sidestepping to the background. It's one of those oddities with you playing on whichever side you chose and it being mirrored (when necessary) to your opponent online (and vice versa). The same rules apply for CCs (crouch cancelling). For example if you force someone to crouch with f1+2 if they're P1 side (on their screen) they can't sidestep to their right, but if they're actually P2-side then they can't sidestep to their left (because you can only crouch cancel, i.e sidestep out of a crouch, into the background).
@@SlCKNESS_ hey thanks for the reply! Saw it happen with the p#1 Paul player named Hexmark. I've worked it out I think - after much labbing I'm guessing he actually SS cancels into the BACKground as usual, but then steps into the FOREgrounds straight after. This is possible because of holding back to guard cancel the first step which allows you to go straight into another step, in this case into the foreground. Super hard to do, gotta have quick as fingers. Not sure its worth it and there will be that slightest bit delay unless you're that fast. I can do it sometimes on hit box.
Let me get this straight..you make a Paul tutorial then use Alex OST from 3S? You're getting my thumbs up and sub! Great tutorial! T8 is my first and I'm coming from SF.
@@Jainko More than that, you can do *any* move that doesn't require a b or n input (his 2+4 throw is the only exception to the latter). You can do moves like hopkick, power crush, ub+2, or d+1+2, but you cannot do moves like b+3 or standing 3. Those require a backsway cancel.
If you SSR duck I can reset the situation again with df1. And if you are really committed to doing SSR then I can push my offense from there and force you to make a decision beyond that on timings.
You know I wanted to pick up Paul because he seemed like an easy character to pick up and play, but after seeing all this content he might be too complex for me
Thank you! Was playing vs a good Paul recently and was amazed by how OP this string is. It has little to no counterplay either. No one should have something like this in the game.
Also worth mentioning Sway 3,2,1 wallcrushes and becomes +7 at the wall. The string is still somewhat a gimmick because of fuzzy ducking the high, but still crazy against people who don't know the timing.
I been playing for tekken 5 years now seriously. This shit is so hard for me to do lol do you have any tips on hitting the df1 consistently? I usually accidentally go into deep dive.
As a paul main with over 5k games of him in Tekken 8. People talk about df1 like this and then leave out the counterplay. All you need to do to stop df1 bs df1, is backdash cancel. The 2nd df1 will whiff. This will naturally make the paul want to go into df1> dpd low on the next sequnce, because its the only option that will reach. This makes it easy to call out lowblocks. Paul has a very hard time against anyone who can break throws, and doesnt mash. You will usually lose against a solid player before you land 12+ low pokes.
I dont know but for me Paul is a really broken character if played well, you cannot afford to make mistakes against paul as his certain moves are very high damaging punishers and character is just different when played up close and played at a distance, make 2 mistakes and you are at the verge of dying without even getting a punish combo. The only reason devs dont nerf paul is coz for some reason people dont think he is strong enough to play(I've lost about 5-600 games against my friend's paul while I was learning this game from T-7 so I'm pretty sure I somewhat know what I'm saying XD ).
Finally someone started to talk about this
Buff paul

You just made my Paul gameplay way scarier, thanks man!
I didn't know about the proximity thing with sway! So interesting

you don't even need deep dive to do WS moves out of crouch dash, you can do d,df,n just like feng wei. Try it, it's super easy

Love the Tekken 2 Paul theme playing in the background
When i discovered Paul, I once again felt motivated to learn character and actually have fun.
The paul up playing is unreal 🥶
high mid mix is fuzzy-able out of the sway low string. He can choose not to commit though but risks getting punished for the second hit
Hmm I can't remember right now, aren't both thirds hits delayable?
@@soldadodeltecno8180 The mid is very delayable, the high isn't

I was wondering on how to work with Paul`s df1, so I got lucky to find this video.
If your losing to Paul you aren’t side stepping enough
Paul has some oppressive homing moves, can't just mindlessly step.
This is some good tech. Thanks Landon!
Is that P2 Paul outfit where it's the one from Tekken 4 a mod? I can't find it anywhere online or in the Tekken store
OP is an overstatement compared to other atrocities the balance team has done in the game.
Dude's getting cracked with the uploads 💯
This is the good stuff thanks man.
Good video. Thanks
You can also get a clean hit deathfist off df112 if you're clean

I went back to Paul, still using Law, but I like Paul as a character more.

You can practice doing any move that has a F input, F2 for example, to figure out the timing
first time ive seen paul not look clunky af
Paul df 1 sway always been a problem for me in every tekken. Though I never labbed it or knew the frames. Can't remember if he got it in Tag 2 or T6.

Df1~b and then there's a sweet spot where you can do any move with a df or f input involved out of sway. No cancel
