As nuts over Mariette Hartley as I'm sure we all are, I gotta give a serious hat tip to Paul Shenar here, the guy just nails the Sargent Young character, plays off Peter extremely well, and makes it all seem very natural - he's one talented actor

I believe they thought about Bing Crosby for the role of Columbo, l think Peter Falk was ideal for the part. Watched programme for years, I'm a Columbo junkie!
Some things are just meant to be. Arnold Schwarzenegger will always be the Terminator, Christopher Reeve Superman, Jackie Gleason Sherriff Buford T Justice, and Peter Falk in my humble opinion will forever be the one and only Lieutenant Columbo, Homicide division.

They teased the viewer many times with Mrs. Columbo who surprise surprise suddenly had to visit her sister. Of course the real 'Mrs Columbo' Shera Danese appeared and played a great part amongst many great actors who probably were thrilled to act in this great series.
I'd love to hear a full uncut version of the background music playing at 2:13 when Jack Cassidy is watching the movie. I've heard it before in other Columbo episodes - namely "Candidate for Crime" and "Double Exposure" which starred Robert Culp. You can hear it in the background when Columbo is talking to Robert Culp in the supermarket.
