When I was in the market for my copy of Super Mario RPG, I asked the seller to see the board and he went the next day to the hobby shop/store and bought the tool necessary to open the cart up and send me pictures of the board. I was very appreciatively of that. Otherwise It would of been a no sale for me. He was also thankful that I taught him a little about that sort of thing because he said he had some other items that he was sure people would want to see the boards.
Wow! That's how you earn customers for life! I always say if a store won't let you inspect a game, walk away. But a seller going above and beyond is awesome!!
I believe the open slot on the repro PCB is for an additional sound processor. A lot of game companies (Konami was a big one for this) would spec resources to expand sound channels beyond SNES limitations.

but you can't play it. What's the point? replace the battery and store the dead one in the OG box if you still have it if it means that much to you. I understand the feelings but I'm not going to have a useless object because of a battery.
Well with a fake - if the game plays y'know you can experience the game, for some that's enough - if you canne afford an OG cart. For myself i bought a Famicom copy and play the online version. Still aaves me a few k and i have it and can play. Love the game - still a pretty unique game. 🙋🏻♂️
Good question! So most Earthbound repros are using a ROM file that has audio issues. So you won't actually get the authentic game. But by that same logic, why buy a repro? Why not get a ROM cart or just emulate? Ya know?
Unfortunately not. I'm not a huge fan of these repros (this version also has huge audio issues), so I tend to discourage them from profiting. There are way too many out there as is!

Honestly the Earthbound repro also has terrible sound quality. The worst part of it all. The music sounds so bad!!
