Cottage Makeover: 60s-Inspired Lakefront Cottage In Quebec

- Les Ensembliers helped their longtime clients breathe new life into a dated chalet, located on Quebec’s pristine Lake Memphremagog. Designer Richard Ouellette and Architect Maxime Vandal transformed the space into a bright, open-concept home while preserving its 1960s charm. Modern windows in every room connect the cottage to the beautiful Quebec landscape outside, while original wood beams and granite stone fireplaces keep it cozy indoors. See the original closed-off kitchen get transformed into an airy space with colorful sliding cabinets, an oversized island and a breakfast area. On the lower level, an entertaining lounge and additional bedrooms are the perfect spot for weekend guests.

Nowadays the words "cottage" and "farmhouse" do not represent the original concept of the past in terms of design, especially when such talented architects are in play. This, in my humble opinion, is definitely not a "simple cottage." Simply gorgeous is what it is! I would love to be a guest in this guesthouse!

I love this home! It looks like it should have always looked like this. If it was mine, I would want to live here permanently. The kitchen color is fun, and it goes so well with the countertops.

Well done. Love that there is some color (kitchen, especially), totally agree with the window instead of TV on the first floor and actually like the stone fireplace in the bedroom, probably because it’s shaped in a softer way that makes it curve softly in the room.

Absolutely gorgeous! I have to say, though, I would have opted for the TV upstairs and forgone that one small window addition. The place is so open and bright, the added light from that one opening is minimal. Moreover, the home is not formal, hence people gathering together for cooking and eating while enjoying movie night or watching the “big game” etc. are going to miss not having a connected space for that😕
Things are done for looks, a lot of time, when you hire designers. I see kids cuddled up on a homey sectional, after a nice meal, watching a movie, instead of being sent off to another room, or floor, to be separated from the family kitchen, rtc.

The poor architect can't get a word in without the interior designer speaking over him. 🙄 You can tell it is upsetting him because his arms are crossed. The home is beautiful. I just wonder what this collaboration was truly like.

Love the house but not the added window ..It should have been an art piece. Not liking the interview: a lot of interrupting and discomfort.
Exactly my thoughts about the window, I was reading comments to see if somebody had said the same thing. Even one of those picture frame tv's so everyone would be happy.
