Recently my wife bought her a 2015 Silverado 5.3 with a blown engine for cheap. Did a DOD delete and a stage 1 comp cam, shorty headers, replaced all bearings, gaskets, rings and oil pump. Got her some big goofy wheels. As a diehard Ford guy I was very impressed how easy it was to rebuild a 5.3.
I just had new heads, headers put on my Escalade. Made a world of difference. Truck drives too damn good now. That collapse lifter is so common with these engines 5.3 & 6.2
That's how I got my 6.2L block. The guy ran it hot. When it cooled he started it and heard a bang bang. He turned it off quick. When the engine was torn down the seat had dropped and made contact with the piston and broke the piston. The piston pin came up and nicked the cyl wall a couple times. I was able to have 1 sleeve replaced and I'm turning it into a Ls3 for my swap. The L92 from 08-09 were non Dod. Mine is a 2010 which is a L94 that is a Dod engine. It isn't any more lol. I plugged the towers.
A quick basically no cost fix short of a head gasket would have been to pull the head and pull the offending valve then tap the seat back in and then peen around the seat with a punch to secure it and would never pop back out. Do it to rest while in there to save some future grief. I have done this several times in race engines and works like a charm
Matt it seems like we have the same taste in vehicles. I to have an 07 Escalade and a 03 Yukon (same set up as tahiti). I also have a 06 Silverado with a lifter problem. Your videos are are sent from God! Thanks and keep them coming.
Love the content man . Been watching for a while since like the old wireless charging tool for tahiti then the key fob vid I never comment but you do a great job of detailing everything and giving great visuals. Keep up the good job battle through that cold weather looking forward to more content
2k for this Escalade ESV is really good. Just the motor alone is easily worth that. Thanks for the detailed explanation of that tool to help with a stuck lifter.
Oh Man, that sux about the valve seat issue. Change the Knock sensor and oil pressure switch while you are in there. Sorry man, hopefully the Escalade starts cooperating after the heads rebuild! Love your video’s, I’m in CT not too far away from you. Working on a 05 Z71 with Brake issue but love these trucks! Good luck with this repair.
that tool came from a diy backyard mechanic using a pushrod ground down at angle. i still have one laying around from early 2000s figured someone copyed it by now. could there of been a chance the valve was just stuck? ive let engines sit throughout a year and when doing a comp test ive ran into issues where the valve just wasnt seated and just needed a lil tappy tap with a hammer up top. usually cast iron heads tho-never had a guide failure yet
Random but it astonishes me the lengths to which auto makers go to engineer garbage airboxes/intakes that literally EVERYONE hates. lol An '09 like that with "only" 153k miles, makes one think there was a certain amount of maintenance neglect from previous owner(s). I have a '12 Yukon that has had a few issues surrounding "deferred maintenance" but even @210k miles the engine itself is in great condition.
what is the process of the jump pack while charging? can someone explain that? does it bring back a dead battery? do you put a jump pack and a second charger on the battery?
Good video there, Matt. Nice save (it appears) on that rear cylinder, it WAS looking frighteningly ugly when that head came off. Keepin' the fingers crossed.
Really just want to keep this stock right now. Cam would be another expense plus I still haven’t had a chance to test drive it yet so I don’t know what else it may need.
@@t.shauny5119 and rusts immediately? I don't think so. There was pretty bad rust visible on the cylinder wall as soon as he lifted off the head, and it was just #7, the one the seat fell out of.
Was fixing stuff on my car n now I've fell down the rabbit hole of videos. I watched your last video on this and have been wondering what happened with it.
Might as well put a lil custom stage 1ish cam , lifters , springs , hit cylinders with some scotch brite brake clean it all clean etc etc , do some bowl work clean up the ports etc good valve job mill heads bout .020 .. just enough to make it more efficient and make a lil more power
Have a 200k G8 with a stuck lifter. Definitely needs rebuilt, but I'd love to get a little more life out of it. Might have to give that tool a try. _FMG_
GM quality is so bad these days . It’s so perplexing with all of the years of manufacturing experience that the engines have become so bad and unreliable.
At least it has the correct alternator on it. Ive had two Burbs now that the RPO called for the 140a and both Burbs someone put the 105a on them...and from working in parts for 15 years, people are stupid and just go for the cheapest. And putting a 105 when it calls for 140 will absolutely cause issues.
I have no idea. I’m speculating maybe the piston was getting pushed to one side causing the rings not to sweep that side of the cylinder. I may pull the rod next video to check for additional damage.
It was ran really hot. That is why the seat fell out. I mean really hot. I bet your heads need decked. It will probably run fine once fixed but usually eats a little oil after that.
You're lucky the seat partially dropped. If it fell out All the way it would have grenaded. My wife has an RX 350 and it actually broke a valve spring and it broke in precisely the correct position so that the keepers would not fall out it was literally a mouse's whisker from grenading and I assume that this is the same
L92: 2007 & 2008 Escalade has no AFM. L9H: 2009 Escalade supposedly has the AFM parts, but they are not activated. Weird??? I saw the RPO code in your last video was L9H, but your engine doesn't have the AFM parts 🤷🏼♂️ L94: 2010-2014 Eacalade has AFM.
Yeah, auctions are all BS! They will nickel and dime the fux out of you fr! Will never buy anything else at auctions ever again, better of buying of private owners...cheaper and you actually get to drive the damn thing before you decide of you want or not!!!😉💯💯
Completely irrelevant. The tune in those things runs fine with 87... and the fuel wouldn't cause the seat to drop anyway. Anything from just too loose initial press fit to getting too hot. Valve seat issues and aluminum heads isn't anything out of the ordinary
@@LSswapGarage1you'll have to take that up with the guys on the Tahoe/yukon forum. they are convinced a 6.2 will only got about 110k on 87 before it drops a seat or cracks a ring land. I only have a 6.0 that's completely different and designed and tuned for 87. so don't know. I just see the posts all the time.
@@LSswapGarage1of course a 6.2 will run just fine on 87, until it doesn't...which is sooner rather than later!😂Says it right on the owners manual, to use premium. If you run it on 87, which is still gas obviously...it will run but not for too long before it takes a crap!🤔😂💯

She’s a dub. W
Almost the same thing we did. We got a 2015 Suburban with 230K miles real cheap and spruced it up mechanically. Thing runs like a top.
Keep going towards the light.... ford sucks
@IndiansAuto that's what he said 😅😊
What is DoD
Even with that damage…..at $2000 that truck was a steal!!! Wish i could find 6.2 escalades for $2k around here in the SF ghey area!!
He paid 1800 more for fees and transport to his place.
Still a bargain at $4k
A steal at 4k
Thanks for braving the cold to bring us the great content

I'm impressed the manifold bolts came out without issue... map gas is good.
Half of them snapped though😤
I have a afm motor on a 2007 Tahoe had a stuck lifter!

To get the collector studs out, all you need is a 4 foot pipe wrench and a vice. Works every time.
I’ll have to try that next time.

Sorry you had to pull the heads Matt…given you are that deep into it why not upgrade the cam?
Yes….a better cam would rule!

Man...I feel spoiled working on all the clean California stuff.... I grew up in the midwest, but just sad seeing everything corroded...😢
I often find that the AFM trucks have an AFM sticker on the brake fluid resevoir of all places
Cheap Escalade are two words that should give every single person in the automotive community pause.
You can make that tool with a metal rod from Home Depot. It worked for me!
The 5.3 went AFM in 2007 the 6.2 went AFM in I believe 2010.
Well, it's good these are so simple and cheap to work on at least.
Sir you bought one rusty pos 😂 but a running vehicle for cheap and a little work I can’t hate on 🤘🏼
One of these days I’ll splurge and buy something from the south
Very informative. Thanks!
Biggest thing I've found on ls is the pushrod quits spinning and wears a eyebrow on the end of the pushrod and rocker cup.
Great video😀🔥
Oh yea, you can see the valve is down and it looks like it's pushed down a little towards the exhaust manifold.

The valve being held open was probably letting moisture in.

THATS WHY I DON'T BUY CARS AT AUCTIONS 4 THAT REASON U DON'T KNOW WHAT UR GOING 2 GET ALOT OF THE TIMES THERE LEMONS.
Did he dump the Tahoe?
Nope still have content planned for it
Mozzle slide a cam in there.
Sounds like a great reason for headers…
And a cam
No no this one is staying stock, i hope.
I put shorty headers on mines
Bought them on Amazon so far not to bad
Why not go to your nearby LKQ Pick Your Part and get a hood that is in decent condition?
None nearby

more videos please

What’s the word on the Escalade?
