one of your best videos yet. Loved the personal stories. I am a firm believer in, as long as someone is remembered and spoken about then they never truly die. RIP Fechy
Absolutely a brilliant story, told as a true bushy should tell them, straight from the heart with no flowery crap told as life was, and still is in these little towns. Well done Sir really enjoyed your memories. Thank you.
Buck I think this is your best post mate . Very emotional and so interesting . So good , I had some tears too just watching . Then I watched the Seekers sing I am Australian and was a mess again. Well done mate !
I had no idea about these humpys. Can’t help but feel disturbed that a whole family could live in such a small shelter. We have come a long way thankfully
Surat, more memories thanks. The now Liberty sold me two globes for blown brake lights on the M/home some years ago. A local pointed out (politely) that our brake lights weren't working. We had a feed at the take-away. A lot of small towns are disappearing because of the way people just drive straight through, not prepared to open their wallets. It's a shame. Got to get out there again soon. I appreciate your stories, thank you.
That was one of your best Buck, really struck a chord with me. Watching on 23 August, my deceased Dads birthday. Absolutely loved it mate and having a Guinness for my Irish Dad👍
Gooday Mr Buckeroonie. Loved this story. I've watched a few of your videos because I'm into caravanning and camping. But this one hit home because I was a copper and appreciate everything you said about community policing. Have been through Surat twice but never stopped there. Last time was after I went to Carnarvon Gorge and was returning to Canberra via Western NSW. Australia is ab awesome place to travel and every town has a story. Next time I go there I'll stop. My Chinese travelmate taught me to always go to the local museum first because that where you learn about the history and the culture of the local area within a few hours. Or just watch a local story video like this one. We'll done. Next time I'm up your way I'll call in and say hello. We'll done mate.
Thanks for showing us around Buck, makes me remember the times I was a kid in the poor end of Maitland NSW (Horseshoe Bend) living in a 2 room post and slab joint with mum, dad, 2 sisters and a brother from the mid 50's on. Dad was earning 5 pounds a week making plaster wall lining with horse hair and plaster. I wish I could have caught up at the legends event, but every time I had the time you were up to you ears cooking or doing something, maybe we'll cross paths somewhere in the future. All the best for you and yours.
Great vid Buck, such a lovely tidy town you should be proud, Next time we may pop into Surat ourselves. Beautiful respects Yourself and Roz paid to 🎣Fechy I didn’t know the man but I cried, Thank you so much for sharing Buck, hopefully next time we’re up that way we can do the same 🍻RIP Fechy 🍻
Cheers Buck. I really enjoyed this one. A trip down memory lane and a place with plenty of character. Sounds like you had some fun and interesting times in that small town and I can relate to that. Lovely Cheers to Fisherman 🎣 Fechy 🙏🍺
I am a regular camper at Surat, the bowl's club has real lawn, that Pub coffee shop was opposite the butcher. The family that run moved it into the pub. I herd the 3 daughters are all different sides of the country these days.😊😊
You are such a great story teller. We really enjoyed this one, thank you. Can’t imagine seeing my first dead body at such a young age & your Dad sounds like a very special fella, someone to be proud of. Oh & my sister in laws family are from Texas, must get out there one day.
Thanks Buck n Ros for taking us along. I think you and I must be a similar age as a lot of your childhood experiences are similar to mine, growing up in a small town. You are right, the rural communities need to be supported. Loved the tour and looking forward to the next one.
Yes. I always buy groceries, have a coffee, or a counter meal at the local to support the local community when I'm in a country town.. The food is often the best!
Hey Buck, you should be proud. Mate lovely tour of your old town. Love your story. Quite ironic I've been away fishing. Pretty poorly I might add,and you visited your mate. I know it would have been hard. Mate thanks. Funny how things come around but I need to visit surat. Mate thank you.
Gday Buck Just got back from an overseas holiday to Italy, Croatia, Greece and Türkiye. The best part of the trip was definitely visiting Gallipoli and standing under the lone pine. I was so emotional. The other tourists couldn't understand why I was so upset. I tried to explained to them the significance of Gallipoli to the Aussies. What a place.
Another good video Buck and enjoyed the tour of Surat. I agree with your statement of spending when in these small towns. I have been fortunate through work to see quite a fair bit of Qld doing site surveys for QCWA and St Vinnie's. I always make a point on road trips to top up with Diesel when in small towns. Look forward to the Texas video, and was good to meet with you at the Legends Campout. Take care. Satch.
I remember watching that live feed with Fecky and zTofty. At my primary school, the bubbles were designated into one set for the boys and one for the girls. And as a boy. You never wanted to be caught drinking from the girls' taps!
Damn shame Buck....missed you by exactly 1 week. I was out there the following Sunday. A couple of mates & I are lucky to head out there each year for a week to a property out along Maranoa Road. Would have been awesome if I had run across you in town. Like you, lots of memories of the area (more recent than yours though). I know the baker from St George so I'll let him know you reckon he has the best bakery in the country. I go out to St George, and your old stomping ground of Limevale, every year to help out with offroad races. Might even be able to talk you in to coming out to one of the races if your interested in some different content for your channel. Seems we have a fair few common memories (or locations at least). Being a 65 vintage like you, I guess we appreciate similar things. I never knew Fisherman Fechy, but it sounds like I missed meeting a very special person. Great video showcasing the area. I had a look at the Mundy Humpy a couple of years ago and was shocked by the way they had to live.
Good to see the preservation of the humpy.Used to see them a lot growing up.Good yarn.Better than telle
Thanks mate

Loved the video of Surat, also my home town. My parents Betty and Dobbin Brooks lived there and Mum still lives there. I remember your Father too.

G'day buck just watching your clip tomorrow is the reinactment of the last run of cob and co mail run from Surat 100 hundred years ago 👍
Sorry Bloke but the Baloone doesn't flow through Roma, that's the Bungil Creek in Roma.
