Sell people on a program where they benefit disproportionately to what they spend and of course the program is liable to be popular. Flip it and give people a program where their cost is disproportionate to their benefit and of course the program is liable to be unpopular.
Free healthcare is an incredibly popular idea. A 12% flat tax to pay for said free healthcare (same way the UK pays for theirs) is incredibly unpopular. Selling people on free things is the equivalent of weekly pizza parties.

7:06 this also goes back to Sam’s earlier statement, that -not only does Social Security prevents 2/3 of the elderly from falling into poverty, it also helps the younger generation of the those elderly people from having to impoverish themselves to keep their parents, grandparents, or other loved ones alive as they age and their medical needs increase.

I am a tax accountant and it's absurd to me that social security has a cap. All it tells me is that the working class contributes all of their money dollar for dollar at 6.2% while the richer get a cap with a less effective rate, but can extract their social security at the max rate (as they should be able to). These are the same people that claim it's an entitlement program, but feel entitled to take their entire share out. Raise the cap, everyone gets a withdrawal raise and less dependency on socializing the American Corporatist 401k system. There's a reason it's popular because it works and it benefits the majority of Americans. It is social insurance and Sam nailed it.

I was single and had no dependents so it was possible. But all my personal savings and investments don't come close to what SS and medicare and my govt pension provide. I feel very fortunate that I am a beneficiary of these programs and I started to appreciate it in my fifties, now in my seventies.I could see private pensions being replaced by 401K programs and I thought at that time, this is a disaster waiting to happen. I don't see any way a person with a family and a good job could ever have a decent retirement without these benefits. I firmly believe that we need to implement a sick leave as well as maternity & paternity leave programs for all workers in this country. I personally feel that every time worker in this country regardless of their job should be guaranteed at least 2 weeks of sick leave & 2 weeks vacation per year. In addition to guaranteed sick leave, we also need to allow both mothers & fathers who just had a baby to be guaranteed time off with pay as well, so that way businesses can ensure that their employees at all levels can come into work feeling their best & contributing their best physically and mentally everyday.
Finally, I firmly believe that "Working Poor" should not be a thing! If you work full time every week of the year, you shouldn't be living at or below the poverty line in this country! Hence why I feel there should be a Universal Basic Income for every American citizen above the age of 16 based on what the poverty level is so that way no one who works full time should have to financially struggle to get by.

I saw Sam in the thumbnail of that video from this podcast/show I'd never heard of and clicked for a couple minutes. Those rich guys are just... yeesh. How on earth do you even talk to people like that and honestly, I spotted a lot of shady and insidious rhetoric/dog whistles Sam seemed like he missed. But then they throw so much out at once how could you even address everything?
The thing is, "rich" isn't just a state of being so far as ones bank account, its a state of mind: specifically one with diminished empathy, short-sightedness and frankly, the feeling that being mean is cool/smart. And this isn't something you can reaosn people out of. But it is what informs their every political 'opinion.' You can almost smell it.

The heroic people who have continued on, making minimum wage and working more than one job to make ends meet, have done so without expectations of anything from anyone but themselves- and Social Security, which they paid into Their Whole Lives! The insurance CEO’s snide comment about “capitalists over-tax” to keep Soc Sec funded, as if they Carry the workers, (when it’s the other way around) infuriates me. Workers made their massive wealth possible! That, and the fact that insurance companies are experts at ripping people off.
