Love the videos. Jimmy is inspiring, lol. Some things I use to transfer water from my station to my tanks. The python no spill and clean kit 2 x 50 ft, the hands free and spill free hook, and a Sicce Ultra Zero pump. I go up a flight of stairs from my basement with no issues at all. Exactly 100 ft. I use a separate smaller Sicce pump to drain my quarantine tank when not in use.
Please do a alk test on that, I know it doesn’t matter but I have had a issue of low alk when I measure 18 cups and pour it all in at once. That’s just half of the 36 cups for my mixing station. I use 2 mag 5’s sitting straight up so the water is definitely rolling. I have to put in 8 cuups slowly and let that clear, then add rest slowly.
Jimmy, thanks for working on this project so hard. I just got my quarantine tank just like yours. What did you do with the small heater? The small heater does not have any temperature gauge on it so I have no idea what the temperature is on the small heater. Did you just use the big heater and that's it? I would love to send you some pictures
WOW! I did not know that you could dechlorinate water instead of rodi water! To think og how much more it cost for rodi water is making me sick! maybe I will sell mine and do this! I m always buying stuff for it as well because it broke several time and had to but parts and all of the refill kits , waste water ect ect! I alway have seachem prime I use when I wash filter socks in my washing machine too!
Why did he use tap water? Even after dechlorinating the water there’s other minerals that won’t be removed. Have to used distilled water or RODI. Also should mix saltwater before adding to the tank
6 fish for how many gallons? For this size of a tank, I would go 2 max. Meds like Prazi will remove oxygen and with 6 fishes in there, might be problematic. You might need a small powerhaed. I would use Copper Power with a Hanna Copper HR checker instead of Cupramine. It's less harsh on the fish.
ha ha, no trouble. My wife is pretty used to me after 32 years ;) She's getting pretty excited though since things are starting to move along much more quickly.
I’ve been quarantining all my fish for 10 years and in my experience Cupramine KILLs fish! Copper Safe or Copper Power no issues. Cupramine? Fish killer.
Not going to cycle the tank and then add the fish? I mean, I’m no hippie, I cycled with 2 clowns. But typically you would want to cycle first so massive ammonia spikes won’t kill off your new investment.
Call me crazy but I dont QT my fish because this is just to risky! Putting 6 fish in an uncycled tank that has just been shipped and totally stressed plus no rodi water! Then all the medication that can kill and are risky. I just but from a reputable sorse and only fish I have lost were fish that jumped before I made a lid! Oh and a fish killed by a hawkish and one by my damsel that probably scared him into jumping! Actually thinking of buying from saltwater fish because supposedly they qt their fish for 2 weeks anyway! Just watched their youtube.
I feel like the pacing on these videos is off. We’re like 11 episodes in and the tank isn’t even cycled. I’ve forgotten whether there’s even water in it or not. I’m about to give up.
Cupramine and dechlorinator???! This makes cupramine 10x more toxic. Under stand that by the time you have fish in the tank it will have evaporated but if this is an instructional video for newbies you should not provide info that will get them to kill their fish latter!
Is Mark Calahn helping this guy out? This is insane! Using tap water! If all you had to do was add dechlorinater no one would buy rodi units! The money I could save just using that and a little goes a long way 5 ml per 50 gallons! I use dechlorinater(seachem prime) to wash my filter socks in the washing machine!
As an expert reefer I still enjoy these videos great job
Exciting times ahead , love the enthusiasm too, happy reefing ahead 🙏🏼
HOB (Hang on back) filter.
It is nice to see the steps you're taking. Good luck!

Nice job.

Why not add the Dr.Tims now and then feed the tank with some fish food, get those bacteria multiplying in the filter before the fish arrive?
Good idea but wrong kind of bacteria. Dr Tims ammonia would be a way better choice. Plus the benefit of not having all that waste in the tank

Since your treating the water anyway you don’t need to use rodi water. As long as it’s 20 or less and fish only
if there’s no fish in the tank you can definitely mix it in the tank lol

Its a 20 gallon tank
He will be fine
What trouble did he get into for not winning the bet having his tank up before Christmas?

I have been buying parts for my next reef tank for almost 2 years lol. This is blazing pace.
Hang in there. It’s going to get a little zippier. I promise 🙂 Next up, 🐠🐟
The only thing that happens fast in this hobby bad. Good advice I got when starting. Take your time, Jimmy!
