I just ordered one and started to look around for tutorials and after watching this i'm blown away by how much this little piece of gear can achieve. Thank you for the video!
Great video, i got my volca sample a couple of months ago (my very first piece of hardware) and this has really opened up so many possibilities. Looking forward to putting them to use!! Thanks
I think it’s the first video that mentioned step properties changing. I thought I would lose my mind trying to figure out how to do it. Thank you! 3:10
I’m flying lo-fi, using the audio pocket app (recroding mainly from speakers or just live instruments with the phonemic) and jamming with what I got. Limitations feed creation. th-cam.com/video/00fkZO10doc/w-d-xo.html
Such a well produced video with lots of great info! Thank you. Once quick note: When you're transposing notes in semi-tones, the "5" isn't a "fifth". It's the fifth semitone in a chromatic, 12 note scale. If you want a fifth to your root note, then you need to set it to the "7" semitone.
My fave line from this vid 'and finally we have the Motion Sequence mode which means you can edit things in real time. Basically this machine is amazing.' mic drop and video ends
One thing I like about the sample one is the way you can just hold ”function” and switch patterns really quickly to blend them together while playing. The newer ”pattern chain” method, doesnt work for that, at least on the volca drum. I have been assuming on the volca 2 it is the same deal.
Quick question. For tip number three when you were making the polyphonic synth notes was the sample used from the factory set up or did you have to load on the synth sample?
Thanks so much Chris, i was actually thinking on another pad controller like the launch pad pro. With that in mind surely it's now closer to a MPC Thanks for your comment
@@thepcgamer2169 Yes. Hold down the step that you want to change the pitch of and turn the speed knob. You can actually change almost any parameter on any step by using this method. I think you have to enable motion sequencing first in order for this to work. You can see him demonstrate this at 3:00 in the video above, where he adjusts the start point and length parameters on individual steps. However, if you do it this way, it will just show the pitch as a numerical value on the LCD screen. Not especially useful if you're used to working with a 12-note octave - what note on the chromatic scale is "16" or "27" supposed to correspond to? With the Sample 2, there is a solution to this, although it's a bit cumbersome. Hold down the step that you want to change. Now press and hold the FUNC key *while* turning the speed knob. The LCD screen will now display the pitch in semitones instead of whatever weird numerical values it usually uses. So if you want to detune a sample three semitones (say, from E down to C#), you can turn the speed knob down until it says "-3". It takes a bit of weird finger-stretching, but it can be done. Also keep in mind that doing it this way limits how much you can tune a note - I think the limit is two octaves or something, whereas if you do it without using the FUNC key, you get a bigger range, but without the chromatic tuning. Good luck figuring out what the fuck I'm talking about. This has been my TED Talk, thank you and good night.
that's awesome thank *YOU*. i just learned that fun way of sequencing where you can modify each step on the Elektron Model Cycles. I recommend you try it if you haven't yet. The knobs are readily available at your fingertips to modify each step of the sequence and even have it recorded. It's an amazing way of sequencing and new to me. So fun that I'm now thinking of getting the Model:Samples version.
Thanks James, the Model Cycles it's a super machine. I made a Jam in my spanish channel. I think the CC are accurate enough so you can follow the process. th-cam.com/video/OoyK8c-SSWY/w-d-xo.html
Hey man I loved the video. It is very nice to know that I can chop up a custom sample and use different parts of it. I really was wondering if my brand new Mac M1 Pro is going to work with this device. I read a scary review where the guy said the app did not work on his Mac. This was some time ago and I saw that Korg last added their program recently this year, so I am hoping that it works on my computer. There are 3rd party apps too, so I am hoping that I can use those in the worse case scenario.
i have a sample 1 and i cant seem to get it to set different tones on different steps (2:52) when i hold the step and modify any settings it does it across all of the steps on that sequence, is this different on Sample 1?
I'm a bit late but in case you didn't find it - you can download the software on the korg website here: www.korg.com/us/support/download/software/0/867/4625/
Thank you for the extremely informative and well explained video. A quick question: are you able to do these on a Volca Sample 1 as well? I'm trying to stick to a budget, but I'd rather save up for the Sample 2 if that's what I need to be able to do what you've shown!
Can you set the level per step with this unit? And/or adjust velocity (basically the same thing) per step if you have, for example, a bunch of hihats on 16's
Any idea where i can get a tutorial for the song mode on the volca sample 2? Theres tutorials for song mode on the vs1 but the functionality appears to have changed with this latest model
Hey Folks, short question: Can I record my own samples with that "Sync-In"-Input&if yes, how long can I record a sample (130s ?). A interested rookie thanks a lot for your answers!

You can also make the Volca Sample 2 listen to midi on one channel. Just hold Record when turning on and select midi channel.
The volca sample is easily my most used piece of gear, the only thing im missing is a sample record function
Uff that function would be amazing! Thanks for your comment

I like the idea of having loop/granular parts set up to become something else when you turn loop off.

Cool tips. Especially the midi channel per parts. Gonna be using a Sample 2 along with circuit tracks.
