@@JoshIsMakingMusic ha! This was the best Sample demonstration I've seen. I really follow the workflow better when it is making a beat in real time versus just listing off the features of a device.
Thanks for making this video. Pitching down a loop to the right key seems so obvious now that you've said it, but seeing the exact process helps tremendously.
Finally, a tutorial which explains the whole process rather than a quick 'Here's how you do a beat' vid that there are way too many out there, with editing that removes some of thre process!
I have the exact same toy on the left - the dude with the white shield. I still remember the extreme climbing skills I had attributed to him while playing.
Nice presentation. When I was using a computer to arrange samples I went through a mellotron-samples phase, too. Flute and strings. I’ve never tried letting go of the step button while changing the speed with function. I’ll have to try that now. Thanks!
Thanks! And yeah, I found that when you're holding function, you can let go of the step button, which is nice... I used to do a lot of awkward finger yoga to change the settings I wanted, haha.
@@JoshIsMakingMusic that’s why I’ve primarily used mine as a drum machine or occasionally playing dialogue, but I may have to try more melodic parts now.
Nice beat, man. I have a Volca Sample 1 sitting over here and didn't even realize there was a 2. Looks like they listened to the user base. These are great little boxes. They're basically an Akai S1000 in a smaller form factor.
@@JoshIsMakingMusic one thing I really like about the song mode is that you can select a song pattern before the current measure ends and it doesn’t change until the next measure. That’s a lot easier when working with multiple devices and you aren’t able to hit the button right on beat 1.
I just got the Sample 2. I downloaded "Librarian" and drag and dropped a wav file sample into an empty slot. I can preview it in the program so I save the changes and try to find it in the sample but it doesn't show up. Any suggestions on what I'm missing?
Hi Josh, I have a question. I just bought the KORG Volca Sample 2. It arrived today & I'm figuring it out thanks to your video. I just wanted to ask you whether steps 11 to 16 are clickable in Live Mode. I mean they're working fine in Step Mode & I can assign samples to them. But they aren't clickable in Live Mode, like nothing happens when I touch them in Live Mode so I'm a bit worried. Could you please let me know soon? As I'll have to exchange the product with the store I bought it at if steps 11 to 16 usually are clickable in Live Mode. Thank you
Hold function key then hold write, led shuld say Save, then choose a number from 1 to 16, to open that hold memorie key then choose number/channal you saved.
There's misleading info out there-- CDM reported months back that the Volca Sample 2 now has 16 parts / 16 samples. It's still 10. Current firmware is 1.0.2, right? Thx!
And to reply to myself with a further question, I just found the packs you do have. Did you use some of those? Again, thanks for taking the time to do this. I know that it is a ton of work to put together something so well thought out.
I dig the beat, the flute gave the beat space. Your video has convinced me to buy the Sample 2 over the PO-33, my concern was the lack of direct mic entry in the Sample, but clearly, as you have demonstrated, the functionality of the Sample far exceeds the PO-33. Do you know if there is an app (for an android cell) that can load in samples? I've really struggled to find info on how, or if it is possible, to use a cell phone to load samples into it via the mini usb. Thank you.
Thank you! It's a fun little box. Shame that its sample librarian doesn't work with Mac Big Sur at the moment. And I don't know of any Android apps for the Sample 2. There are apps for the original Volca Sample but I don't know if they work with the Sample 2 as well. Sorry I can't be more help!
@@JoshIsMakingMusic Thank you for your prompt response, Josh. I'm sure there are others like me interested in the answer. If I find it, I'll post the solution here. Re. Big Sur, that is odd given the original sample app was Apple exclusive, as i understand.
hey Josh! great video :) @2:15 it seems like you were able to edit steps individually using that process.. on my volca sample 1 with motion sequence on it won't let me do the same unless hold the step + function + turn the wheel all a the same time which seems impossible. Are you able to not hold the step cause of something on the volca 2? or is there a setting im missing? thanks for your time!
Hi. Thanks for the great video! As far as I know, the Volca Sample 1 doesn't have the ability to change the note of single part chromatically per step as you did for your arpeggiated flute sample/part. Is this a feature exclusive to the Volca Sample 2, or do you have custom firmware? Thanks!
Thanks! Good info. Mine is still on back order but this is great info. Just a bit of what is hopefully constructive criticism. Ditch all the extra "stuff" on the table. Its distracting when someone is trying to focus on what you are trying to teach. If this was just a demo or you were sharing a creation it would be cool.
Apparently they've been on backorder for a while. But they're worth the wait! And thanks for the feedback. I'll try that with my next instructional video.

Lemme get some of those non-euclidean hi-hats.

Exactly, Good lookin out.
Nice one! Cool to see your workflow on the volca.
Thanks! :)

Thanks a lot Josh ! You are really clear, like your sounds!👍
Super easy to follow, unlocked a lot of functionality for me! That function button is a gangster
Very interesting thank you. Like the colour palette too.

sweet bionicles!
Hi great video, so how can you save that pattern that you create?
The Volca has a save button for the pattern that you use to write it to a memory slot!
You are a fantastic teacher
Thank you!
have you tried the Volca sample 1 with pajen firmware?

Did you click the button for transferring the samples? It's near the top of the window in the librarian.

Double-checked it with the manual, it says Live Mode just lets you use steps 1 through 10. Sounds like yours is working properly!
@@JoshIsMakingMusic Thank you for confirming! I was searching for this online for the past hour or so. Thanks a ton! Subscribed to your channel✌
I just got mine and I'm trying to figure out how to sample into it. I prefer the usb way; How do you do yours please?
Same! I load in samples via USB, I don't think there's another way to go about it.
Lovely tutorial, very well explained. How to you save your sequence once you already created and used all 10 chanels?
Hold function key then hold write, led shuld say Save, then choose a number from 1 to 16, to open that hold memorie key then choose number/channal you saved.
nice, I just ordered one :)

Wow thank u for this video… new sub

Awesome video! question: how do you use this for odd time signatures?
What's a little funny is how the volca sample has the colors of a NES controller. Kinda fits with the items you've put around it. :)
Not really? I don't see any gray, silver or the red and black. It's literally white with just LEDs
And that's how he found out he was colorblind

Is the changing pitch on specific steps only available on the volca 2?
As far as I'm aware, both Volca Samples can handle parameter locks.
