Something else to add, the movie stars are the ones that sell tickets. Range is overrated, because the best actors are not always the most bankable. Who cares if you can completely transform into another person when no one is showing up to see these performances in the theaters. I keep running across video essays that $hit on actors like The Rock, but how many of these people are actually spending their money on movies that challenge them as a viewer?
So when I was in the army my unit got to see Hobbes and Shaw for free because we had a tank named after the rock. When the helicopter scene happened we all laughed
Even playing just DRAX alone, Batista show more range than the rock have ever show.......not to mention all the other roles Batista have like his scene in Blade Runner to this day is one of my favorites scenes, his role in Knock at the Cabin, or his Role in Glass Onion, he always is switching his characters that you can't confuse one with the other......the Rock besides he in BE COOL.....he is the same character in ALL HIS MOVIES, no difference at all, specially now, since his shave his head he looks the same in every film, plus the clause he have is not just been a MAIN CHARACTER is that he can't be beat or surpass by anyone in a fight, to the point they actually count the punches he a Diesel toss to each other and have to be a TIE......what the heck is that?
There is a video uploaded by the channel AttitudePop called "Stone Cold Vs The Rock WrestleMania 17 Highlights". The reason why I'm mentioning this is because during this video, which is a highlight on the last 10 minutes of the Rock's and Stone Cold's match, Vince McMahon pops up and tampers with the match at 4:20. And the Rock just gives Vince a certain stare. Idk what it is about the stare. If it's the blood on his face or his eyes. But it is genuinely a haunting stare and a perfect scene. That moment right there is imo better than all of the Rock's acting career. That stare is better than any of his acting in any movie
Brandon Lee is Bruce Lee's son! How do you not know this?? Brandon Lee wouldve dominated this list. Hell, he already does if you consider that The Crow is a much better piece of cinema than anythng The Rock has done.
Dude, you cannot separate a well-written character from the actor who's delivering it. An actor's delivery of a character is based upon direction and the actor's ability to act. When have you ever recognised that a character was well-written, but the actor who portrayed that character sucked in that role? That doesn't make sense, bc an actor's ability to become that character is DIRECTLY connected to how that character is viewed. Unlike music, we as viewers don't watch films while reading their scripts. We watch films to see and hear the actors' delivery of those scripts. While a song can be well-written-but-badly-sung, it takes more to act than to sing. Btw, I do agree with your assessment of The Rock. 😊
I see where you're coming from, but in my opinion certain super hero movies depict that quite well. Fan4tic for example. I didnt find any of those actors great in those roles (besides Doom) even though I believe the fantastic 4 has really well written characters.
So we just going to ignore Liam Neeson, Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler and a shit ton of other actors that literally have been playing the same role for years? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I don’t why people are slandering Rock. He ain’t hurting anyone. If you want to watch movies strictly for great acting go watch an indie film. Simple sells. Keep it simple, stupid. The fact that so many people believe being complex or complicated means something is good is a demonstration of peoples inability to find and sustain any type of success on a global scale. Everybody doesn’t want to watch a drama all the time. Just like everyone doesn’t want to pick up an encyclopedia every time they listen to a song. Cough. Kendrick Lamar. Cough. These movies serve their purpose. John Wick wasn’t complicated and nobody in that film was nominated for an Oscar, acting wise. But that shit was good. All 4 of them. Entertainment is what it is, and is at its best, when it provides escapism. Plus, films and acting are subjective. Just like every other art form. So your definition of “great acting” is entirely your own. Denzel Washington is a great actor. But the majority of his credits have come from mindless action/thriller movies. From the Bone Collector to DeJa Vu. Every film can’t be Training Day. Same with Will Smith. You think he won an Oscar for Independence Day? No. But people talk about that and Men In Black way more than they do Concussion, Emancipation and Ali. You know why? Because Independence Day, Bad Boys and Men In Black sell. They put asses in seats. So why shit on Rock, Drake, or any other artist for finding their lane and riding it to success? Not everyone is a film snob. In fact, most people aren’t. So do you want to be “great” or do you want to make money? Often times those are very different paths. I don’t think Rock is pacing back and forth in his 20,000 square foot Hawaiian mansion worrying about if people think he’s a great actor. He’s worried about putting asses in seats. And he’s been doing a hell of a job at it for the past 28 years. Stone Cold, Hogan, Cena and Rock weren’t great workers in the ring either compared to Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles. But Cena, Austin, Rock and Hogan put asses in seats. And wrestlers that were undeniably better ring workers were going to them and thanking them for the house. You don’t need to be great as an artist to be successful or remembered. You need to be effective, you need to have the ability to connect with your audience. That is what makes you successful. You could be the greatest artist in human history but if you don’t have the ability to connect, no one will ever know your name. Everybody believes they can recognize greatness when they see it. But that’s bullshit. Most people wouldn’t know greatness if it slapped them in the face.
You can say the same thing about Martin Lawrence, Kevin Hart, and others. They play the same character in every movie... themselves. Same hairstyle, same voice, same mannerisms
Yeah, that was kind of in the start of his movie career. Karl Urban of all people was the "hero" who ended up kicking his ass. Dwayne was still climbing the ladder back then.
Dave Bautista had like 10-15 minutes in Blade Runner, but he put so much weight into his performance. There have been other instances of wrestlers getting into acting, and they were more often just stiff performances and a gimmick to sell a schlock movie / series. But Dave's a real one. He's not even ashamed of making a fool out of himself.
You said Be Cool was the first movie, The Rock was in. It wasn't, he was in 4 movies before that : The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King. The Rundown, and Walking Tall.
The only great role Dwayne Johnson ever did was in Southland Tales. His “Pimps don’t commit ☠️” line and the whole arc he goes through in the movie is very different from a lot of the stuff he’s ever done. Of course…that was before he became a Hollywood institution
You didn't mention Roddy Piper but that's okay. I only know him from 'They Live'. Even before you mentioned Dave Bautista I KNEW he had to be it. I met him before and he's a pretty chill guy. He's definitely the best wrestler turned actor. Other wrestlers turned actors (some do both simultaneously) The Miz Randy Orton CM Punk AJ Lee Becky Lynch Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks) Eva Marie
@@rahbeeuhJohn Cena. He's like if the Rock challenged himself in roles. Also worth mentioning, Miz was an actor turned wrestler. He was on several reality shows before WWE
@@SillySpaceMonkey I can see that. I wish Rock would challenge himself more but so long his schtick works for him he'll keep doing it. Oh yeah I forgot Miz was on The Real World 😂 I didn't watch much TV (especially not reality TV) back then but I've seen clips. Idk if that counts since he was kinda himself or a version of himself anyway but fair enough for pointing it out.
80% of actors aren’t actors they are just themselves in every film. There’s many that get by just because they are attractive or their personality is bearable.
@@mrthirdperson00 IMHO ever since the first Matrix, Keanu Reeves has been the same cardboard cut-out for all of his roles. Same for Vin Diesel (except for Find Me Guilty). There's definitely enough material for another video.
I don't know about any of your topics but I want to say that if you don't know who Brandon Lee is and you talk about action movies then you need to go find out who Brandon Lee is and his legacy and watch The Crow from the 90s. Of course it's not a requirement but if you're a channel is going to focus on action movies and you're going to reference the crow or Brandon Lee you should know what you're talking about😊

Y’all out here shitting on Rock but Liam Neeson, Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler and a shit ton of other actors been playing the same character for a decade. Liam’s movies are all literally the same.
@@mrthirdperson00 What? Kevin Hart isn’t on the level of The Rock? Arnold Schwarzenegger could be on that list, too. Plus, Rock just did an interview with GQ where he explained every claim you made. I don’t understand how people like you, that have had no success in your life whatsoever in relation to The Rock, can so easily criticize him for doing something that clearly works. Your opinion is shit. And I’m not just saying that because I disagree with you. I’m saying it because you seem to completely lack the ability to see things from another perspective. Like you can’t fathom what he did was intentional. He didn’t want to make movies that YOU thought were great. He wanted to make movies that could connect with as many people possible on a global scale. I left a comment here saying that exactly same thing before that GQ interview came out a few days ago. You have no idea what greatness is, anyway. I’m in an artist in multiple fields. Who cares if you’re the greatest actor in the world if nobody goes to see your movies? Every actor doesn’t have that goal. And Rock clearly knew what he was doing. Y’all marks be so self centered that you can’t fathom people have different goals than you would ever imagine. The Rock was amazing in Be Cool. That movie had a great cast but he stood out in his role. I expected Dwayne to be better because of that movie. But he's still the Rock. Which is still good.
I mean, tbf the whole thing about the Fast and the Furious movie part of the video was that most of the characters in that franchise acts superhuman, not just the Rock. So as much as i believe that the Rock only plays himself in his movies and therefore have very little to no range when it comes to acting ability, his character's superhuman bullshittery isn't only applied to himself in the Fast and the Furious movies but also to Statham's and Diesel's characters in that franchise.
@@mrthirdperson00 Did he do the superhuman stuff in Fast Five when he(The Rock) was there? I don’t really recall. Even then, Dom has his own superhuman feat in Fast Five (aka the vault scene) so if Hobbs did have a superhuman scene in that movie it’s not like it’s only him that’s doing it. Also to think that the Fast Franchise won’t go balls to the wall with its premise is also not true, as Diesel always wanted the series to “have a mythology of its own” like legends in DND and such, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that the Franchise would go that way with or without The Rock. Also the whole minigun scene happened Furious 7. Dom literally catched someone at high speeds, midair, and landed on a car in the last movie (Fast and Furious 6) unscathed.
The rock can do more, he's just too afraid, when he let go of his ego/fear in "pain and gain" he truly shined. But yea, the best of wrestler turn actor is Dave, he is truly fearless.
Gridiron gang, snitch and faster are movies where he is in role of the character, not just him playing himself as you mentioned. But overall rock is more of a "movie star"
The Rock is actually the sixth-best wrestler turned actor. The ranking is: 1. Dave Bautista 2. John Cena 3. Andre the Giant 4. Roddy Piper 5. Randy Savage 6. The Rock 7. Hulk Hogan
The Rock is just different versions of the Rock in every movie. The other thing is, I feel like he has powers in every movie even though he is a regular dude… Crazy.
Basically his job in every movie is to have his “real life charisma” reminds me of the argument people had about Brad Pitt in the early states of his career, like “oh he just plays the same person in every film , he can’t act he’s just charismatic”

Batista's small role in BR has more range and depth than The Rock's entire movie career.
Great analogy with the rock and drake. Dave Bautista is the best wrestler/actor in my opinion too
If youre interested in the Drake part of things im going to be making a "Big 3" video soon given all this Tyler/Cole talk 😶
My favorite rock movie was the one where he was a deadbeat dad and then his daughter shows up as his door
There's rumors that Bautista might be up for Batman villain Hugo Strange, hence the weight loss.
Batista is so good. You never know what performance he’ll gave you.
i fw this bro, good commentary and facts you def deserve to get bigger. watched while eating 10/10
"Watched while eating" may be the biggest compliment i can imagine. Thank you so much fr
Pain & Gain, Get Smart, and DOOM are movies where he stretches just a little bit. Those were before he became a living marketing department though.
The Rock is a live advertising, it's like watching a brand like Disney talk; it's all fake
You got me in the first seconds!
I was surprised to see you didn’t have thousands of followers because you sound very natural at this!
Keep going 🥳
Thank you so much that really means alot to me 🙏🏼🥰
Heavy on that rock and drake comparison , just because they’re famous doesn’t mean they are producing consistent quality things
That scene with the dancing raisins and the Chappelle Black Sheep Freestyle earned you a subscriber today.
Brandon Lee is Bruce Lee's son! How do you not know this?? Brandon Lee wouldve dominated this list. Hell, he already does if you consider that The Crow is a much better piece of cinema than anythng The Rock has done.
the crow wrestler you were thinking of is Sting during his Crow phase in the latter half of the 90s. one of the all time legends.
THANK YOU! I knew i wasnt imagining that haha
I'm choosing to tell myself you're talking about the singer/bassist from The Police
i dont know how i found you but im glad i did
Dude, you cannot separate a well-written character from the actor who's delivering it.
The Rock is a made up character by the WWE creative & writers 😂 He plays that same character in most of his movies. That’s the only role he can play.
Ryan Reynolds seems to play the same character in every movie himself. 😂
I'm glad someone is pointing this out. He's my favorite wrestler of all time but he is not an actor.
Batista Bane sounds awesome
I liked the rock in the game plan. It wasnt action and i loved the father daughter relationship
Denzel is Denzel in every movie
Deniro is Deniro in every movie
I totally agree with your rankings of wrestler turned actors. Dave is even willing to lose muscles to further improve his acting range.
You can say the same thing about Martin Lawrence, Kevin Hart, and others. They play the same character in every movie... themselves. Same hairstyle, same voice, same mannerisms
Cm punk was right when he said the rock movies are bad disney movies
The Rock is just a brand.
On point. Black Adam = The rock but terminator
it's such a German-on-the-internet moment to realize the niche youtuber you've been watching also has ties to Germany
I loved The Rock in Doom one of the only times he’s played a villain.
Dont forget scorpion king(the cgi one) lol
Yeah, that was kind of in the start of his movie career. Karl Urban of all people was the "hero" who ended up kicking his ass. Dwayne was still climbing the ladder back then.
Dave Bautista is a great actor with great range. The Rock shows no emotion. I avoid his movies.
Rly good video I was surprised that the channel was so small. Keep it up
🙏
Im your 800th subscribed. Love your video essays!
At least John Cena say :"BING CHILLING"
Dave Bautista had like 10-15 minutes in Blade Runner, but he put so much weight into his performance. There have been other instances of wrestlers getting into acting, and they were more often just stiff performances and a gimmick to sell a schlock movie / series. But Dave's a real one. He's not even ashamed of making a fool out of himself.
You said Be Cool was the first movie, The Rock was in. It wasn't, he was in 4 movies before that : The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King. The Rundown, and Walking Tall.
Yeah The Rocks first movie is The Mummy Returns he didn't have a line and in the end they turned him into an ugly CGI monster
@@stellviahohenheimYeah, I saw the movie in theaters back in 2001 when it first came out. That CGI, was the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
I said "I THINK be cool may be ONE of his first movies". I choose my words very specifically :)
The rock is literally the fakest person you'll ever meet in your life 😂
The only great role Dwayne Johnson ever did was in Southland Tales. His “Pimps don’t commit ☠️” line and the whole arc he goes through in the movie is very different from a lot of the stuff he’s ever done.
Of course…that was before he became a Hollywood institution
Forgot about that one. The guy that did that movie certainly had a vision.
You didn't mention Roddy Piper but that's okay. I only know him from 'They Live'. Even before you mentioned Dave Bautista I KNEW he had to be it. I met him before and he's a pretty chill guy. He's definitely the best wrestler turned actor.
Other wrestlers turned actors (some do both simultaneously)
The Miz
Randy Orton
CM Punk
AJ Lee
Becky Lynch
Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks)
Eva Marie
Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride have the same charisma as Roddy Piper in They Live, they just exude personality and their acting feels sincere
@@stellviahohenheim I KNEW I was forgetting someone. Thanks. Yes, Andre the giant too.
@@rahbeeuhJohn Cena. He's like if the Rock challenged himself in roles.
Also worth mentioning, Miz was an actor turned wrestler. He was on several reality shows before WWE
Thanks for the List! Im not that into wrestling so the most I could go off is my prior knowledge and a quick google search 😂
Great video, tbh I thought you had more subs and after watching you def deserve them
“Coming this Summer, The Rock stars as . . . . blank action movie hero who basically is The Rock.”
Walking tall, The gameplan, & Gridiron Gang are his best movies
I agree with all the above you listed.Your the first person I've heard mention walking tall.i also like him in be cool and the rundown.
@ the rundown is dope too, pretty much his earlier career. anything after 2010 is mehh
Great vid bro, keep more like this coming✊🏼🔥
i mean, he is a good at voice acting.
for the past twenty years, Jeff Goldblum just plays Jeff Goldblum in any given role.
now replace the name with Ryan Reynolds, and...who else?
I was actually thinking about other actors who fir this description while filimg. What do you think about me doing a video about single roll actors?
@@mrthirdperson00 IMHO ever since the first Matrix, Keanu Reeves has been the same cardboard cut-out for all of his roles. Same for Vin Diesel (except for Find Me Guilty). Ryan Reynolds is the same endearingly sarcastic guy no matter what. BUT on the good dramatic side, Ben Foster always plays some emotionally shattered dude, but REALLY well. There's definitely enough material for another video.
Gal Gadot. The same piece of wooden cariacature of a cool, pretty woman.
Me (an intellectual): Rhea Ripley 🤤🤤
I don't know about any of your topics but I want to say that if you don't know who Brandon Lee is and you talk about action movies then you need to go find out who Brandon Lee is and his legacy and watch The Crow from the 90s. Of course it's not a requirement but if you're a channel is going to focus on action movies and you're going to reference the crow or Brandon Lee you should know what you're talking about😊
Its strange because although I am very aware of who brandon lee is, for some reason it completely skipped my mind while filming. My dad is a huge Bruce Lee fan and would always have his movies playing when I was younger. He told us the story of Bruce and Brandon but as I said, mind skipped a beat 😅
No one knows what "litty" means. I think he made it up.
The Rock was the best in like Walking Tall or the Mummy ((even Pain and Gain was funny!!)) but every character is now some version of Bald Badass and I’m TIRED of it grandpa! The only acting he’s good at - is acting like his body is All Natural.
Y’all out here shitting on Rock but Liam Neeson, Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler and a shit ton of other actors been playing the same character for a decade. Liam’s movies are all literally the same.
Because none of those actors are held to such high regards or seen as much as The Rock
He succeeded in what he was trying to do. But, apparently, he should have listened to you and done it the way you think is better. Because you’re clearly more successful than he’s been… 😂😂
@@sincityquinn it aint anywhere NEAR that deep big guy chill 😂
@ But it was deep enough for you to make a 10 minute video about it? It’s deep enough for you to try and get clout off of it, though?
@@sincityquinn Did you not notice how unprofessional and unserious the video was? 😂 Im jsut a dude giving my 2 cents. If those two cents are worth that much in your mind I appreciate it 🙏
The Rock was amazing in Be Cool. That movie had a great cast but he stood out in his role. I expected Dwayne to be better because of that movie. But he's still the Rock. Which is still good.
Thank you !! your first person I've heard mention that movie. I also liked him in rundown and walking tall
The rock is overrated
I mean, tbf the whole thing about the Fast and the Furious movie part of the video was that most of the characters in that franchise acts superhuman, not just the Rock. So as much as i believe that the Rock only plays himself in his movies and therefore have very little to no range when it comes to acting ability, his character's superhuman bullshittery isn't only applied to himself in the Fast and the Furious movies but also to Statham's and Diesel's characters in that franchise.
True but those characters didnt start doing that stuff until he did :D
The Rock IS an actor. He stopped doing character roles in favor of being a brand name celebrity.
Gridiron gang, snitch and faster are movies where he is in role of the character, not just him playing himself as you mentioned. But overall rock is more of a "movie star"
He was in Get Smart as a side character (2008), Southland Tales (2004 or 2005), and Doom (2005) as the villain.
The ICP were wrestlers, so I think we do know who the **worst** wrestler actors are.
Rocks movies were better before he got in the mouth and belly of the beast and grew a big overinflated head.
Those early movies of his were the best.
Dwayne Johnson's biggest role is convincing the world he's an actor
Be Cool is such a good movie.
Yup it is, most people here seem to have never saw it.i also like walking tall and rundown
6:29 the title is insane for a children movie!!
That wasnt the actual name of the Movie...just a little gag i put in 😬
@ clever lol
As an actor the Rock is...a rock
The Rock plays as The Rock in every movie lmaooooo
Dave Bautista is such a good actor, I constantly forget he was a wrestler .
... you forgot, "no pain No no gain" with mark Wahlberg
The Rock is actually the sixth-best wrestler turned actor. The ranking is:
1. Dave Bautista
2. John Cena
3. Andre the Giant
4. Roddy Piper
5. Randy Savage
6. The Rock
7. Hulk Hogan
The Rock just plays the same character again and again and again...and will keep doing that.
The Rock is just different versions of the Rock in every movie. The other thing is, I feel like he has powers in every movie even though he is a regular dude… Crazy.
😂😂😂
totally agree with the Ranking of the 3.
Marky Mark and Ryan Reynolds
That Drake reference was spot on 🔥🔥
Thank you, I’ve felt this way about him for quite some time.
Don't forget Jesse Ventura (Predator, Running Man, Demolition Man, Batman and Robin, The X-Files etc.)
Basically his job in every movie is to have his “real life charisma” reminds me of the argument people had about Brad Pitt in the early states of his career, like “oh he just plays the same person in every film , he can’t act he’s just charismatic”
The Rock is a billboard for corporate product placements, not an actor.
