Recently watched that after randomly finding it on Prime Video looking for something to watch. The trailer immediately caught my attention and it did not disappoint, it was great movie and performance by Ryan.
I think it's not just actor problem but Hollywood problem too, they just won't try to shake up the established. let's take Liam Neeson as an example, he makes his big break in Hollywood portraying a hardened ex special force in Taken and what project he keeps receiving after that? a hardened ex special force until his name no longer sells and they abandon him entirely, I'm sure the same is happening with Ryan Reynolds too, unless he proves that he does have range (Which usually means taking a smaller project).
I think he made his big break in movies like Rob Roy, Schindlers List or maybe even Kingdom of Heaven. The Taken series has really boosted his stock in Hollywood. But he's been around for a long time & built his legacy with other movies. Even then, Taken, Non-Stop, A Walk Amongst the Tombstones, Run All Night & so on. Are pretty solid action movies, it's his bread & butter for a reason. Also Ryan has proved that he has range. Check out Voices & Buried. He doesn't act anywhere near his typical self & imo. Did a great job in both.
Before, Liam Neilson used to be one of the best actors of all cinema, due to his breakout roles in Schindler’s List, Batman Begins, even The Phantom Menace despite that film being considered one of the worst films ever made when it came out. But ever since Taken, Liam Nelson’s been typecasted in action movies, just as the Rock has been typecasted in blockbusters. It’s like Neilson jumped the shark or whatever.
@ShockwaveFPSStudios Nah, maybe Liam is just having more fun with the newer roles he chooses. As you said yourself, he made himself into a force to be reckoned with in the acting industry. Even then, the action movies he's been cast in. Have been pretty solid objectively speaking. I can almost guarantee myself that when I watch a Liam Neeson movie. Whether it be newer or older, I'll enjoy it. Sure, he may have made better movies back then. But he's still a great actor imo.
Lol, that may be true, but that doesn't mean he isn't one hell of an actor. His performances in Joker, Her, The Master, C'mon C'mon and Walk the Line are nothing short of perfection. Also, he's had uplifting or humorous roles as well, such as Inherent Vice and Beau is Afraid (albeit admittedly, both characters were also miserable). And he's proven with Gladiator that he can also play a neat villain
This video is directly ignoring movies like The Adam Project and Hitman’s Bodyguard (or Life or Selfless or Woman In Gold or Amityville Horror or 6 Underground or Buried for that matter). He has range, he just gets typecasted so often and he IS that type, but he can do better if given the chance.
Nah, man, someone should call him out if he's being too biased. Like you mentioned & a couple others as well. There's other movies he's been in. That have shown off his acting capabilities.
Criminal, too, I found pretty dope. Personally, I think it's not that Ryan Reynolds has no range, it's just that the movies he chooses to star in most of the time don't explore it. Heck, even in The Proposal which is a comedy right up his alley, Ryan acts in a way that is much different from say, Deadpool, for example. He masterfully morphs into this frustrated and exasperated character, who then becomes vindictive but also warms up to the person who made his life hell.
He’s not limited but only picks the roles that are part of his persona. If he chose more difficult roles, he could actually improve and become a good actor
Tbh I think after playing Deadpool rocketed him to stardom, he got typecasted to those kinds of roles by studios. They know he has range, but they also know what people want is Deadpool and Deadpool-adjacent characters. It certainly helps that he gets the big paychecks and as you mentioned, he's basically acting as himself. We can't say for sure the man is completely content in this arrangement though. Hopefully, he shows us he's intent on diversifying his roles.
Have you watched The Voices? I remember his performance in that movie, as well as the character he played, were very different and much more complex than most other roles he plays. He also gave a stellar performance in Buried.
He obviously hasn't seen them if he honestly believes Ryan has no range. I haven't seen Buried but did recently watch The Voices, it was a great movie and a great performance that was very atypical to his usual schtick.
I'm so glad someone else is acknowledging that Ryan Reynolds is boring and has no range. I felt a little crazy because it felt like everyone loves him and I never saw the appeal.
He never said boring bro 😂😂😂. Quite the oppisite but yea i get it. He, mark wahlberg, jason statham, the rock, kevin hart, vin diesel, Ice Cube, among many others display a clear problem in the industry.
@@badassproductions4734Vin Diesel is the example of an actor who has given up. You can barely hear what he says in recent movies. Like he speaks so much more clearly during the interviews, but in the movies, all I hear is "family." But his earlier works showed some acting talent. I watched his short film, multifaceted and I was surprised by how good he was in it. Just see XXX and compare it with the sequel. He had some charm, some energy and charisma in xxx. The sequel, you get the mumble Diesel Edit: Sorry, the short film was multifacial
Old actors needed to have range because they would one day get old and stop getting the same role over and over again. But now with plastic surgery and steroids, they don't need to adapt.
Most old school actors didn't have a lot of "range". John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Carey Grant all pretty much had the same mannerisms for every character they played.
@ movie stars tend to not have a lot of range, Oscar-baiting actors and method actors usually are the ones more desperate to have range, although having just finished The Penguin, Colin Farrell has some range, I’d like to see more of it
Man, he's so fckng good at The Amityville Horror, The Captive and Buried. Hollywood made him bad for casting him the same character over and over again.
0:44 i feel like you’re just scratching the surface when you say he plays only a wisecracking guy while listing his famous roles. Do his other roles break the fourth wall? Do they make jokes about being pegged?
i think he's focusing more on his post deadpool stuff, where that's all he's become. but also being a wisecracking guy has always been his thing. like reynolds in that romance movie with sandra bullock and him in green lantern was just a tamer version of his deadpool character
@@BuryTheLight-tdsI like Ryan, but he does keep playing the same character in different clothes. There's nothing wrong with that imo, most actors end up playing the same character in different clothes.
A few days ago, I went to see the movie Lee and was absolutely blown away by the fact that they cast Andy Samberg - someone I had firmly filed away as a sitcom actor - in this very serious war movie, in a serious role, and he was absolutely incredible in it. I would love to see a similar branching out by Ryan Reynold. I'd love to see if he could do it.
Actually, that was the formula since the golden age of cinema. Pacino, DeNiro and Nicholson still acted with range in the 70s, bit by the 80s they met their "sweet spot" of capitalizing on personality, the same way Gable, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean, Delon or Connery did before them. There's nothing wrong with exploiting personality for roles. I mean, it worked for Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman, among a whole lot of other actors, the majority, actually.
He played George Lutz in The Amityville Horror remake. That role was a complete departure from his comedy stuff. The movie doesn't get much love but Ryan acted that role really good. Buried was another one where he was a different kind of character. He gets type casted alot. But the few times he's not in his normal roles, he acts pretty decent
he does have range and it gets proven in movies like "the voices" and "buried" but those movies just aren't well recieved by the audience. in an interview he says that he used to make movies where his acting abilities were challenged but it was only appreciated by critics and never the audience so he decided to make movies that makes the audience happy and that's why he landed up as every sarcastic snarky character in hollywood.
I've honestly had my fill of Deadpool and I'm so glad there are no plans for more sequels. The Deadpool humor and MCU humor needs to toned way down. I wanna get back to seriois films with some light humor used sparingly.
If Michael Jackson didn't moonwalk in every performance, people would start rioting. That said, if Ryan *don't* Reynolds..then may God have mercy on our souls!
He have range. But they usually hire him to be to do that movie personality we are all used to. Im not even sure that his natural self, it looks more like its him, but turned to 11, while in real life he is like like but at 5 or something lol.
The thing with his movies and his roles is that when there’s emotional beats they really do hit hard, the lines he delivers in Deadpool of all movies when he says his girlfriend is planning on saving his life in every way she can he says he’s just memorizing every detail on her face. His eyes watering and the way he looks at her is legitimately hard to see. He can act, unlike a certain former wrestler.
Safehouse, and buried proved he could do serious acting roles. The problem is he doesnt do enough of them because they don't offer a gajillion dollars, plus, i feel Hollywood low-key type casts him as well. I hear what you're saying and agree, but i do believe there's a great ACTOR in there when given the chance.
Ahem... Type casting is a thing for a reason. Without the money from DVDs and people going to see only huge budget CGI films in the cinema things have changed. the price you pay for hiring someone who has not proven himself beyond doubt to be the best fit for the character is huge. So yes, many people play similar characters. Joaquin is a great actor, but... If you compare his characters in "you were never really here", "the master" and "the joker" you'd see a pattern. It is our bias that says that drama is art and comedy is less of an art...
He does have range. Watch him acting as deadpool ( funny ) , then watch his acting when he finds out he has cancer ( broken ). Watch his acting when he gets out of the machine to fight Francis ( serious ). His acting is amazing whether its comedic or serious situations. The problem is studios that keep giving him the same role.
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp It's not about liking versions. Movie version actually tried doing the most important part of Deadpool which is emotional side. Videogames didn't have any of it.

The difference is Ryan Reynolds has his own production company, Maximum Effort. He’s picking his own roles.
Joaquin Phoenix does the same thing in every movie too. Being sad, miserable and depressed.
True.
True but at least he is interesting to watch. Not range but intensity
His character in Signs wasn't depressed.
Bro clearly hasn't seen Brother Bear 🥱
With the exception of Buried, I've never seen him play a risky experimental role.
He also played in Voices
@bilalpickid8436 crazy his Amityville role gets no respect. Dude was a menace in that movie.
The nines
Smokin' Aces is another one
Safe house
When I get a Mint Mobile advertisement before the video💀
This video is directly ignoring movies like The Adam Project and Hitman’s Bodyguard (or Life or Selfless or Woman In Gold or Amityville Horror or 6 Underground or Buried for that matter). He has range, he just gets typecasted so often and he IS that type, but he can do better if given the chance.
He mentions The Hitman’s Bodyguard in the first minute.
@ but still ignores that it isn’t an entirely “funny action hero” role.
Anyone who's seen Reynolds in Smokin Aces knows he can make magic
don't forget about IF
he literally play a anti Ryan Reynolds character in that movie
Selfless was a great little movie, caught it by chance on TV and was pleasantly surprised
Not a fan of Reynolds or anything, but I think you really need to see 'Buried'...
And "The Nines"
Also The Voices
Nah, man, someone should call him out if he's being too biased. Like you mentioned & a couple others as well. There's other movies he's been in. That have shown off his acting capabilities.
Voices especially. That's a performance a one note actor can't give. That requires actual talent
I'm so glad other people see this. He's basically the same character from Van Wilder in all his films
Yeah its the only thing that makes him money
i think you forget his role in Green Lantern , truly phenomenal and unique
Ryan Reinolds is the Jason Sthatham of comedies.
He’s not limited but only picks the roles that are part of his persona. If he chose more difficult roles, he could actually improve and become a good actor
Jim Carey proved he had range with Truman show. Ryan Reynolds’s needs to find something like that to do.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
The character Ryan Reynolds plays in every movie is the one self aware background character
Watching Reynolds movies is exhausting
It's not like anyone's forcing you to watch him movies at gunpoint, if you don't like him then don't watch his movies.
He used to have more range when he did movies like “buried” then he started playing himself and never stopped
I mean, which one was more profitable?
He was actually pretty good in Amityville horror.
Meh not really
Are you Deadpool because you're Ryan Reynolds, or are you Ryan Reynolds because you're Deadpool?
He's shown he has range. But studios hire him to play a specific character because that's what the GA wants to see from him.
@badassproductions4734 let not forget Spiderman Tom no range and his girlfriend zenday
@miagrass i would say tom definitely tried to broaden his horizon with that very infamous movie he was in. Zendaya on the other hand...
The sequel, you get the mumble Diesel
Edit: Sorry, the short film was multifacial
To paraphrase a poet, If he was a spice, he’d be flour. If he were a book, he’d be two books. - Louise Belcher
So you clearly never saw smokin aces he has good range when the movie calls for it everyone just loves him funny
The thing about how you critiqued this guy, is excatly in Ryan Reynolds fashion! You got us, lol.Pretty good.
I wanna see ryan in a film where he isnt the snarky guy like in a sad movie
Old actors needed to have range because they would one day get old and stop getting the same role over and over again.
But now with plastic surgery and steroids, they don't need to adapt.
Umm John Wayne partner, John Wayne
this comment is pseudo nostalgic delusion at its finest...
Most old school actors didn't have a lot of "range". John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Carey Grant all pretty much had the same mannerisms for every character they played.
@ movie stars tend to not have a lot of range, Oscar-baiting actors and method actors usually are the ones more desperate to have range, although having just finished The Penguin, Colin Farrell has some range, I’d like to see more of it
Regardless, he’s an awesome guy.
Just make sure he doesn’t see this. You don’t want to be a kill cameo in Deadpool 4, he’s quite unforgiving!
Man, he's so fckng good at The Amityville Horror, The Captive and Buried. Hollywood made him bad for casting him the same character over and over again.
Yeah exactly, it's not that he has no range. It's that they don't utilize it.
I guessed we forgot amityville horror 🤷♂️
Gosling is the deluxe version with actual acting ability
Just watched "Life" last night where Reynolds played as, you guessed it, a wisecracking astronaut.
2:36 he also played detective pikachu and played in blade
1:44 willem Defoe too?
0:44 i feel like you’re just scratching the surface when you say he plays only a wisecracking guy while listing his famous roles. Do his other roles break the fourth wall? Do they make jokes about being pegged?
It's simple, this guy didn't get his facts checked and is parroting what every other person that hate Ryan are saying.
i think he's focusing more on his post deadpool stuff, where that's all he's become. but also being a wisecracking guy has always been his thing. like reynolds in that romance movie with sandra bullock and him in green lantern was just a tamer version of his deadpool character
@@BuryTheLight-tdsI like Ryan, but he does keep playing the same character in different clothes. There's nothing wrong with that imo, most actors end up playing the same character in different clothes.
Another " i totally agree " for you !
2:57 That's pretty much the same thing The Rock did.
Ryan Reynolds feels so neutered.
We can never be tired of Ryan reynolds
He played George Lutz in The Amityville Horror remake. That role was a complete departure from his comedy stuff. The movie doesn't get much love but Ryan acted that role really good. Buried was another one where he was a different kind of character.
He gets type casted alot. But the few times he's not in his normal roles, he acts pretty decent
I love this! Talking about how something that is usually seen as negative can be something positive.
Ryan Gosling, but without the self awareness 😂
Ryan Gosling but not literally us
Gosling is so miserable, never smiles
@@TayWoode He looks pretty happy in barbie
he does have range and it gets proven in movies like "the voices" and "buried" but those movies just aren't well recieved by the audience. in an interview he says that he used to make movies where his acting abilities were challenged but it was only appreciated by critics and never the audience so he decided to make movies that makes the audience happy and that's why he landed up as every sarcastic snarky character in hollywood.
Tell me you didn't watch Ryan Reynolds before Deadpool without telling me you didn't watch Ryan Reynolds before Deadpool
The Amityville I didn't even realize it was Ryan Reynolds he definitely has a range
The voices. Buried. Safehouse.
Ryan Reynolds dud a movie called Buried
This channel is very underrated. I hope you get 100k subs very soon!
I've honestly had my fill of Deadpool and I'm so glad there are no plans for more sequels. The Deadpool humor and MCU humor needs to toned way down. I wanna get back to seriois films with some light humor used sparingly.
How exactly was Ryan Reynolds wise-cracking in ''Life'' (2017)?
Have you watched "Burried" ?
What about The Amityville Horror?
The fact that these two are the only ones worth mentioning says a lot.
He's one of those actors who only ever plays himself in movies 😅😅
If Michael Jackson didn't moonwalk in every performance, people would start rioting.
That said, if Ryan *don't* Reynolds..then may God have mercy on our souls!
You get it
The parallels between the two of you are frightening.
He have range. But they usually hire him to be to do that movie personality we are all used to. Im not even sure that his natural self, it looks more like its him, but turned to 11, while in real life he is like like but at 5 or something lol.
The only person who could've been type-cast as Deadpool...
As much as I agree with you😂😂, he still has one or two movies not playing this stereotype😂😂
Buried
Safe house
The captive
Woman in gold
Only four, huh.
He knows his brand and what people want to see from him
His Deadpool humour has gotten old
The Amityville horror was a different work of him
I liked him in ''Buried'', ''Smokin' Aces'' and ''The Voices''
''The Nines'' and 'Life' are cool too
I thought he was good in Amityville Horror. Not overly like himself.
Outside of playing Deadpool, anything else he plays seems like a lackluster version of that
His version of Deadpool is a lackluster version of the character. It’s the most surface level idea of what he is
@@et4003Still better than the videogame!
@ well of course
@@kendi5391nah, I like the video game version more
@@DavidMartinez-ce3lp It's not about liking versions. Movie version actually tried doing the most important part of Deadpool which is emotional side.
Videogames didn't have any of it.
Break that fourth wall Ryan
"Either you retire as a hero, or act long enough to be known as a bad actor and then have your movies considered great classics. Maybe get a seat in politics too" -Ex governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but I think he did normal acting in amittyville horror. I think he definitely has it in him. But Hollywood wants Ryan Reynolds
He was pretty good in "THE VOICES"
They’re called personality actors for a reason
When the actor has no range...
Robert De Niro 👁👄👁
Dudes been playing Van Wilder his entire career
You’re right
I’ve never once laughed at him
I do agree buuut he was not bad in buried and smokin aces
i like Ryan but he doesn't sad thing is he can play a different character but he doesn't have the range too make the character, well. different. He's an odd case
