    Thanks for the video post of the Land Rover. I just bought a series II A, 1969, Single cab which has a 4DR5 Mitsubishi engine. You inspired me to repair mine in a better way than I first thought. Will post the re birth of my Land Rover, once its done. Thanks Very Much.

    VERY nice install and rebuild. You should e proud of what you have achieved. I am rebuilding a '89 90" and know how hard it can be.
    Well done again.

    Very nice build. Screw the trolls who say you don't deserve to what you did. Your vehicle is amazing and your should be proud of the work you did. To each their own. Mod on! My 1966 109 dreams to be as nice as yours

    I'm doing a restore on a S3. Interesting to have the bit about Defender firewalls fitting the earlier series. Food for thought. Brilliant job that you've done too!

    I also am only a fan of the older look & 2a features but you built what you wanted & if people think 2a's are rare then they should take a look on ebay or gumtree any day of the week. They don't all need to be saved & it's great that you went for leafs, they are a good spring, still used widely on many commercials & retains the 2a integrity, congrats, great car well built & most importantly another landy back on the road.

    Thanks a lot. The firewall/dash combination was from a defender. Mouting points for firewalls on Landy's are all the same. I fitted a 2004 firewall/dash to my 1961 series 2a.

    @mnzgp I know what you mean, i used to be just the same I'm in my 50s now and with no family and no kids to get involved it's just not the same. I had a Dolomite sprint that just needed the wheels cleaned up and it ended up stripped too the shell and 5 years to rebuild. I never built up the nerve to work out how much I spent on it including my time, but it was good at the time and the boys learn a fair bit in the process. good luck on the next project, LOL

    Interesting project. There's a rod you can but to weld the sill piece to the back tub with a low temp torch...it would look much better than having the seam there. As you need to paint the hard-top anyway, do that and move the tail lights to the bottom. Oh, and get some rubber wheel arches and paint those too.

    Thanks! Gearbox is from a Lexus. 4 speed auto. Shortened the mainshaft to fit hilux transfercase. Amazingly I had no drama to getting it street legal in South Africa. I live in Aus now and the Landy is still in SA. Would love to bring it over.

    @hollypolydog Hi Chris. Thanks. I used Toyota Twincam 16V engine (4a-GE ) power steering pump and for the steering box used the BMW's box. Had to manufacture brackets for it to fit. Anything else please ask. Best regards, Ben

    @1johnpritchard Hi John. Thanks for the compliment. At the time when I was rebuilding the Landy I still lived in South Africa. No we are in Sydney. I stoped counting at R85 000. Took me about 2 years to build but it was mostly weekends and some evenings during the week. Most of the time was taken up by getting the best fit for everything in there. I did not really keep track of all the hours. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ben

    NOOOO! Leaf springs? But...the coils are what make it superior to the jeeps! Anyway, you like it, bonded with the uncle, looks great! Every time I ask my 4 X 4 buddies about lifting my'90, or bigger tires, I get yelled at about don't mess with perfection!

    Hi, thanks for the comment. Front wheel arches I could get hold of but it was a mission finding arches for the tub because that is still the series 2a tub. Not the same as the newer defender. Still looking for some universal arches. Cheers

  • @mnzgp
    @mnzgp  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @carlos45703030 I have done some crazy things with the Landy and the diffs handled it well. Broke the hilux manual box 3 times in 5th gear so that's why I replaced it with the Lexus tiptronic autobox. Pretty bullet proof!!!!Also there is noting holding the sideshaft in the centre portion from sliding out, so even in the event you snap it, it should not go anywhere. Hope this helps mate!

  • @S1monH

    @loudtrout Ha ha, yes but down here in South Africa it's very hot so I don't have that problem and I can wind the window down all the way. My "old" doors were stuffed and could not find two doors in good nick. So far they work well!! Cheers

  • @mnzgp
    @mnzgp  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @carlos45703030 No problem. On the hilux diff the wheel bearings are pressfitted to the shaft, so it won't come out that easily. In fact I damaged my rear diff and had to take the rear propshaft out and I selected 4x4, locked the hubs at the front and I was driving around like that for over a week. (smoked the front wheels once or twice once the turbo kicked in...lol).

    @SNHization Hi there bud! Axles went in straight so the track is a bit wider than original Landy track. No mods to axles except to weld some mounts for the leave springs on the bottom of the axle. Let me know if this helps. Cheers from Ozzie land! O and for the gearbox on my SWB I had to move the gearbox crossmember to suit. Proshaft then also very short as you can see.Removed the original engine mounts to fit the ones I've built.

    It’s not retained enough original parts to to be on its original plating so should in the U.K. have had an SVA year and reregistration.
    All that does not take away from the fact you now have a well built tidy motor. The toymota bits wouldn’t be my cup of tea but fair play to you it looks a very capable truck now.

  • @jimabbott453
    @jimabbott453 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You did a good job, unfortunately it is no longer a "Series" Rover. It has none of the character of the original and as many have said, it's now a bitsa '90 Defender which is truly a shame. If you kept the original body shape and modified with Land Rover parts, i.e 300Tdi + matching auto gear box and so on, I think you would have a better vehicle and cop a lot less flack from Rover enthusiasts! It would also have a better re-sale value...

    aNOTHER SERIES ICONIC VEHICLE WRECKED BY SOMEONE WHO WANTS A BITSER KIT CAR 90 SORRY THIS FELL IINTO YOUR HANDS WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN REBUILT SYMPATHETICALLY AND KEPT ORIGINAL BY ANOTHER PERSON. with more thought to the value of what you had but have thrown away. It won't be worth as much now either. It's like ripping a grandfather clock mechanism out and fitting a china batter clock movement. You wouldn;t get much praise for your efforts at a series 2a club meeting so sad

      Who cares? Anyone with an ounce of common sense Like I said you have wrecked an icon of motoring history and turned it into a 90 look alike There are millions of modern 90's around nothing like as special, interesting and valuable as a series. Why didn't you just buy a 90?
