I really want to now how the new outofocus works whith my old mft lenses... i dont got any of the expensive ones... pure old mft lenses... kits, zooms, all the entry level ones.
The GH6 has a VLog 0db of 2,000 ISO. This is SUPERB for low light, high dynamic range shots like stage plays and live music, etc... On the G9-II, you start at a LOW 500 ISO. To get to 2000 ISO on that camera, you gotta add +12db to reach what the GH6 does at 0db! Nah,...that one problem (Native 500 ISO is just too damn low) kills the G9-II for me. I'm betting the GH7 will jump back up to 2000 ISO base 0db VLog.

Thank you for the comparison! The tilt screen of the GH6 is definitely a great plus to connect a hdmi cable. I'm a videographer and I bought the G9II because some issues were fixed : Streaking issue, weak battery life, noise at low iso, dynamic range boost at 2000 isos with VLOG (500isos on the G9II is easier to use). I'm surprises by what you say about the colour science: a lot of people praise the colors of the GH6. I'm happy that you don't think the same :) My experience with the G9II is great so far and I shooted my first short movie with it. No issue with overheating. The autofocus is great to take pictures and videos of my children ;) . On set, focus puller are there to focus ;)
Haha exactly! Yeah it was mostly interesting viewing my lut on camera didn’t feel accurate. I also didn’t mention a ton of other points like the different autofocus’s, the stabilization, or real time lut either
How about the fact that the GH6 punch in to focus doesn't work properly? It's a blurry fuzzy mess with no fine detail. My old gx7, em5mii and GM5 all have a better punch in focus than the gh6. It's virtually unusable. Hardest to manually focus lumix I've ever used.
Should I have the s52x for video , and the g92 for photo . And the new s1h2 for cinema ? I currently have the S1H . But stepping my game up this year .
Do you need the added functions of the S5 IIX and G9 II, or are they just handy to have? The S1H is a monster camera as you already know. Unless you would really benefit from phase detect AF, 4k 120p in v-log and Prores recording to SSD, the S1H ought to do everything you want.
Honestly once that S1H2 or S2H camera comes out that will be the one camera that probably will do it all then the S5iiX as a B Cam. But right now I rock the S5iiX as my A and the G9ii as the B Cam because the color science is the exact same. When I use the GH6 the color is slightly different for some reason
Ok. But i see specs say It has one stop better dyn range and less noise in low iso. I just Wonder if anyone can see It. Photons to photons site measures 2 stop better dyn range with raw photos.
Hi, why you did not mention that the G9 II is able to connect a SSD drive. That ensures long takes and reduces buffer times. I use now allways a SSD drive and taking videos I am very satisfied with this solution.
I'm not a video person but I have to say the G9ii is pretty awesome for the wildlife photography I do. I'll have to try the video, but it is a big learning curve. It's too bad Panasonic can't update the GH6 with firmware to fix the autofocus. I've learned it's more than firmware but would require different hardware. I also like to play with vintage lenses so I don't care much about the G9ii color profile except ... love this the Leica B&W mode, it's beautiful.
Not sure if you see this, but i really need some advice. I wanna make film and photography a career and I’ve had a Panasonic g85 for about 4 years as my first camera but it’s just not cutting it anymore. I wanna primarily do video projects, more like short films, but I do like doing photo shoots and just photography in general. I’m just having a hard time figuring out what camera to get as I’m obviously on a budget so I can’t really buy two cameras like what others have recommended. For example they use the g9ii as a B cam and something like a s5iix as their main. I only use micro 4/3 and have 4 lenses already so it just makes sense for me to still use micro 4/3 for now. Also a big thing for me is I want to be able to shoot in low-light situations. From concerts, to night photography, low light scenes for short films. My g85 definitely can’t do that. Would a g9ii be better or the gh6? Is there another camera you’d recommend? Just wanna make a purchase that is worth my money and will suit me the best.
For photography and low light purposes you will love the G9ii for sure! It is a solid camera overall! The S5ii is super nice and with the dual native iso you could get better low light performance but it would cost lot more money for all the lenses
I’m a GH6 user that likes the larger capacity CF Express type B card from Angelbird for only $129 for 512GB. This is way cheaper than any SD card with comparable storage but still slower speed. I do most of my work with manual focus with sigma lenses and it works great with my rig. I only paid $1300 for it and will likely buy another for $1000 or less because of the reliability with the fan and that tilt screen. G9ii looks like a good camera but I would consider the S5ii with same form factor, same autofocus, same features (slight crop in some 4k modes but not a m43 crop) it is also in same price point.
Yeah love that! I feel like the price factor for the GH6 is the biggest thing apart from the ergonomics for it. The streaking since I film products a lot is what holds me back for continuing to recommend it
Thanks for the comparison! Speaking of Audioo - are you able to test and compare the audio recorded with an external microphone on both cameras (without using the dedicated DMW-XLR1)? My recorded audio (Sennheiser MKE 440) on the G9II sounds kind of tinny in comparison and I have a suspicion why this might be the case.
I really, REALLY wish that Panasonic would make an APS-C camera (or two, or three) with PDAF. I would get a GH6 but the streaking issue really has me concerned. Anyway, thanks for the video.
dude, the streaking issue is so overblown lol. I have literally never experienced anything even close to streaking. I will admit that I installed like 3 or 4 updates as soon as I received it, so I am sure that might be why. But even with the pre-production cameras that the TH-camrs were using, the only way they could even see streaking was when recording INTO the sun. IDK about you, but I don't film directly into the sun a lot. BTW, B&H is selling the GH6 with Leica 12-60 f/2.8 lens BRAND NEW right now for $1,799. That's a thousand bucks off!

They're all great cameras, but they're also literally great, ie. huge. For someone like me, who got into MFT for the weight, size and cost savings, and barely care about wildlife or video, they're just not that appealing. The G100 and OM-5 were both very disappointing, and I'm starting to lose hope that I'll ever get a properly modern camera that suits my beloved olympicron lenses. Honestly considering just selling off most of it and switching to Fuji at this point.
Yeahhh that camera just isn’t even in the race. A $2000 camera that can only shoot 4k 60fps 4:2:0 10 bit only in Long GOP. You can buy the GH6 that can do twice as more for like $1K 🤷🏼♂️😅

In 10 years I've been using the MFT, after the AF which occupies nr.1 position on the list of my troubles, the second biggest problem has been the color science. And a 13-year old Olympus that I still use for fun seems to have subdued but more decent colors than my Lumix 5 years old. However when pressed to do payed work, I'd always use Lumix... I'd love to see a thorough comparison between the OM-1ii and the G9ii stills, but nobody has taken trouble yet.

I think all you would need is a GH6 and an S5IIX. That pretty much covers EVERYTHING you could ever want!

@@MatthewDangyouYes that streaking issue is fixed in G9II. There is a video from Rhet Thompson in which settings you can minimize the streaking.
