Passed up on a 44 colt redhawck kodiak backpaker for this colt cobra. The colt just felt alot better in hand. I do want a 44 mag next but i think i will go wit a 6 inch
The transfer bar type firing pins used on the Mark 3,Vand SFVI and DS2 will break if dry fired extensively on empty chambers. I didn’t design them , just giving a heads up since I had one break on a DS2
Another great review. Would love to get my hands on one but I will wait until all of the early adopters have bought theirs and the price drops somewhat. I expect there will be a premium over MSRP for about six months or so. Oh well. It’s axiomatic that every time I see a new gun I want it. Just a kid in the candy store. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
That's what I'm waiting for too, but do you think they'd really come out with a 4" this soon? Why wouldn't they have already if they were? I feel different barrel lengths are a couple years down the road unfortunately.
@@letusthink1 Please watch these videos from Shot Show. Hank Strange: th-cam.com/video/ogJwUIl1Xqo/w-d-xo.html and God Family Guns: th-cam.com/video/JeL-z9q52Wg/w-d-xo.html
If you just want to test the trigger - you can just dry-fire. If you intend to bang away with dry-fire practice or training then I would definitely use snap-caps.
Great video! Since I think you also have the 2017 Colt Cobra, how does the new King Cobra's finish compare to the Cobra? From your video, it looks like they both have a bead-blasted finish. I was hoping the King Cobra had a more traditional, matte or brushed finish.
I just heard from another owner who has both the 2017 Cobra and the new King Cobra. He confirmed the new King Cobra has a much nicer, slightly polished finish. This is good news.
@@HammerStriker I just watched a Colt-produced video confirming the King Cobra finish as brushed, rather than bead-blasted (as used on the standard Cobra). Side-by-side, the slightly more-polished brushed finish looks much nicer.
Though I cannot contradict Colt as they are the ones that actually made it. I can say, just looking at ours, the finish appears to have the more random "grain" that would be associated with bead-blasting than the more regular pattern typically associated with brushed metal. Either way it is definitely more highly polished and is quite nice looking.
Though I have no inside information, I would suspect if the Cobra continues to sell well and the King Cobra takes off that they would continue through the whole line. C'mon Anaconda!
Colt has publically confirmed at Shot Show 2018 and Shot Show 2019 that medium and large frame DA revolvers are in the works and will be released after the Cobra series is finished. Colt did mention 2020 for a possible release on the Python, depending on how sales of this 357 go. Colt is not going to go overboard on the Python now because they do not want to kill the sales and momentum of the King Cobra 357. When Colt does release the Python it will be a very limited edition / custom shop release only. This way the King Cobra can be the "affordable" working mans 357, while the Python can be the big money premium version. (Just like it was back in the day) Colt is going to release a 4" adjustable sight target model 357 King Cobra at the NRA Annual Meeting in April . Now that is going to be really sweet.
Smith N. Wesson , Man that’s music to my ears , I hope they do bring out the legendary Python , in 4.8inch , 5.5inch and 6inch versions in both Stainless and blued versions . I’m Sure they’ll sell sell trucks loads of them if they make them .
Please discourage me w the price of dis beautiful revolver. Its a Colt.. so, its not inexpensive. And for a concealed weapon.. that hammer could indeed, snag. Best to go w double-action only.. w low profile hammer.
Geez a loo, for the price they'll be charging for this gun you might think they'd buff out or otherwise develop a means to rid the trigger and hammer of the MIM circle pattern on each. How difficult or expensive could that be?
I agree, it would take Colt less than 10 seconds for each trigger to buff out the MIM dot....But the dot is still 10,000 times better than having the S&W Hillary Hole lock!!
These new Colts are very disappointing to me. :( They are on par with Charter Arms finish... Nowhere near what the old guns used to look like when they were shipped. The MIM circle is just ridiculous. The guns just look so plain and rough to be called a Colt. 😢
So underwhelmed by new revolvers. I have a Colt Lawman MK III. Decent revolver. Nothing... and I mean NOTHING has come close to the value of my Ruger Security Six. They broke the mold when they made that one! Well, I have three of them, but they did actually and literally break the molds when they made them.
You are exactly right. The Security Six was one of the greatest 357's ever made. It is a crying shame Ruger does not bring the Security Six back, or just make a 6 shot version of the SP101 and call it a "New Security Six" - it would sell like crazy. But since Kimber has the K6s SA/DA and Colt has the King Cobra, maybe Ruger will reconsider and change their mind just to keep up.
@@smithn.wesson495 Doubtful. In the early 80's, I got my hands on a GP100, touted as the 'successor' to the Security Six. Well, that's like saying the F-150 is the successor to the Ford Ranger. Bigger, more capable gun, to be sure, but not the same thing. The gun analogy would be the K and L framed revolvers S&W produced. I had a 686 once... that thing was HUGE! I sold it and continued to shoot my Model 66. If I want big revolvers, I've got 44's. That was before the 7-shots came out, though. I would probably not refuse a free GP-100 seven shot.
@@RyeOnHam You are right and it is doubtful. I agree with your examples 100%. Everyone knows Ruger and Colt were stupid and killed their best 357's by discontinuing the Security Six and Python. Regardless of how many hundreds of thousands of times both Ruger and Colt have been told to bring these guns back, they would rather live in their ignorance than admit to being wrong, or listen to their customers. Yes, the 686 is huge and the Model 66 is an easier to handle shooter. Again, very good points and response.
@@smithn.wesson495 One of these days I will get around to comparing my S&W 66, Ruger Security Six, and Colt Lawman MK III side-by-side in a good video.

I love my 38 Colt Cobra, exciting to see a 357 now. Definitely want to pick the King Cobra up soon.

We will have it out in the next week or so hopefully.

Is the grip removable? I am sure the rubber grip is great, I just think a checkered walnut grip would really sex up an already beautiful piece

I want to the King Cobra vs the Kimber K6S 3inch DASA

Enjoy your reviews. Any idea of MSRP

my first thought, that trigger guard is way generous
Can you dry fire this firearm or should I get snap caps

2022 model. Beautiful to look at but I wouldn't trust my life with it.. Often miss fires.. I'll sell it the 1st chance I get.... S&W 👍

For the Damn price! You would expect good rear sights!
Next Cobra should be a 4" with adjustable sights in 357.
Would probably be a nice gun for the nightstand, not so much for carrying. No doubt that hammer spur would hang up on your clothing.
Dectectives and agents for over 80 years would disagree.
How is the size compared to a model 66 or model 19 S&W? I want this or the model 19 l comp.
It is smaller in width, not near as bulky, it swims in the 66 holster
What part of Florida are you from?I’m from the Tampa area and definitely want a King Cobra.
