First saw this review shortly after buying my Colt Target. I find the package too beautiful to put rubber grips on it. I de-burred and rounded the trigger guard to save my knuckle - then took some wood off just behind it allowing my hand to get up higher on the grips. Where I wrap my right thumb over I removed a bit more wood for it to ride in. I took 80 grit paper to the smooth areas front and back. Personalized, I guess you could say… …anyway, I love shooting .357 ammo out of this this thing and I do appreciate this honest review of a very fine revolver.
Jeffrey Root I think we have. The first gen are pretty inconsistent, whereas the S&W guns are way ahead. I honestly hope they eventually beat out the S&W, especially for the price.
I like mine enough that originally I was thinking about getting a Python... but now not so much. It shoots really well and is also an attractive pistol. I will still get a Anaconda though.
I am taking mine to the range today. Bought it a few days ago and I am very anxious to let her rip. Does anybody know if self defense 38 +P is OK to run in this gun ??
Have an old Taurus 689, got it from my grandfather and it’s basically the budget model of these. I personally like it a lot but I know QC in Taurus’s made now are beyond lenient
I found the altamont grips to be too big and too smooth for my personal liking. I ended up putting Hogue grips on it and it feels a whole lot better. I would’ve preferred pachmayr grips but they didn’t fit the gun well though the website says they can.
Based on everything I've read about this gun, I was under the impression this gun had a matte finish, I have both the anaconda and the python, in this video the king cobra also looks polished, is that accurate
I have this gun, and I get your point about the grips. For me, they're just slightly too large to be 100% comfortable, so I slip a bit. My approach is to annihilate the target in less than 3 rounds so it's not an issue. :-)
A suppressor will not work in a revolver, regardless of what Hollywood would like you to believe as ignition of the cartridge takes place in the cylinder, and not in a sealed chamber like in a semiauto, the only exception to this rule is found in the old Russian nagant revolvers in which squeezing the trigger, moves a steel plate forward against the rear of the cylinder forcing it against the barrel, sealing it.
@@ernestclements7398 You clearly misunderstood my comment on the audio system as a indication of A lack of knowledge on my part the Mechanical working of the firearms family, you are mistaken.
In my experience Kohl's have wonderful barrels, and not such great triggers Of course I'm used to Smith & Wesson triggers, so obviously the cold triggers not going to feel right to me LOL
Id say the competitor is more like S&W's model 66. But still, beautiful gun, i bought one for my friend as a best man gift at his wedding, i hope he likes it!
Do you think King cobra target is good enough for shooting 375 hard cast heavy bullets, such as buffalo bore 180 gr. hard cast"/ I am thinking to use it as a bear protection in Alaska. Any suggestions?
The colt cylinder latch does not go the wrong way, you go the wrong way! Really though Everything else on the revolver goes to the rear. the hammer, the trigger, everything goes to the rear why wouldn't the cylinder release
Good Sir, I just bought this fine hand gun and can't wait to try it 👍😉 Thank you very kindly for your OUTSTANDING review and field tested video mon ami Cheers 😉👍🍻
Ejector rod is too short even for.38 special. Notice that he didn’t show ejecting spent shells. That’s because they don’t come out without some finagling. The two closest to the frame won’t clear the grip, so you must rotate the cylinder to get them out. In a shootout, if you need to reload, you will die. The trigger is very nice, single and double. Shoots well. Less than 100 rounds of factory reman .38 special and the cylinder was toast, back to colt. Over pressures damage so be very careful with your choice of ammunition as it isn’t that robust. A range gun only.
@@PatRMG Couple weeks after buying I hadn't made it to the range yet and took it out of the safe and randomly the action was broke, couldn't pull the trigger or hammer unless you forced it, and even then it was tough. Before that though it was fine and had a nice trigger pull, when i got it back today the DA is still nice but the single action is worse and the hammer pull feels a little less smooth
I hate the grips on that thing and underwood rounds stick in the cylinder 158grain nickel cases. Other than that the rear sight is too loose. Overall im not a fan and plan to safe it with my other snake guns. 686 got it beat
Saw one in a shop yesterday, price? 1,999.00 with tax over two grand for a revolver, with Colt you are paying too much for the name, give me a Ruger or S&W any day!
Many people complains about the grips been uncomfortable, not ergonomic and you hand will slide to the top. I like the gun but If I get one (which I plan to) first mod is change grips. I went to a store hold it up myself and confirmed it is true, don't like it at all. Nice Vid though.
New fangled single action! I shoot so little single action that my muscle memory failed me! Added it to the video for some of that oh so good comic relief.
@@PatRMG I do as well. I know they have sold the King Cobras with that sight, and said they fit the new Python. The problem is that Colt says to contact Brownells, and Brownells don't don't jack squat and says contact Colt. I am getting sick of the circle jerk. The only sighting options offered for either, are the fiber optic sight, and a night sight. I have no interest in either, and wish they would have just shipped the Pythons with the gold bead sight instead of the fiber optic.

Colt has ways to go before they are back at where they were on revolver quality.
Graham Stewart Possibly, have we had time to determine that yet?
Jeffrey Root I think we have. The first gen are pretty inconsistent, whereas the S&W guns are way ahead. I honestly hope they eventually beat out the S&W, especially for the price.
Exactly
As the owner of over 40 new and old colts , I highly disagree. The quality is great actually
I own 16 Colt single actions. My 2012 New frontier has the best fit and finish of any of them.
Took my new king cobra target to the range today. It performed flawlessly. I like it better then my 1974 python.

They look nice but they suck when shooting magnums. It’s too slick and slides

.357 magnum is the only ammo left on store shelves.
The ammo used in this video was actually hard to find.
The only ammo they had my local Academy was 9 mm shotshells.
My local shop has plenty of 41 magnum and 500 SW.
