    It's funny to read the haters. This isn't 1990. It's 2019. If you want a original in good shape your looking at 3k. Then are you really gonna carry your classic everyday? It's a couple hundred bucks more than a Smith. That's 2 months of your internet provider cost. It's a Colt. It has a solid feel, sweet trigger. Buy it while you can.

    I’m glad to see Colt bringing back their classic revolvers. A Colt Detective Special saved my butt in a gunfight w/armed robbery suspects in ‘74.

      I have a colt detective special 3rd gen. lovely gun. Im lucky to have bought one with actual colt medallion grip instead of pachmyr. they are hard to come by now..... the only complain is that it seems to shoot high all the time. not sure if its me or the gun.

      They may not because they seem to be shying away from bluing and in their stainless model revolvers they cheap out on polishing.They polish cylinders but don't go the extra mile with a satin finish on the frame. I am disappointed in the discount look.

    It really is a nice gun. Good fit and finish. Smooth operation (cylinder latch, cylinder open and close, ejection rod, single action cocking). The trigger pull is smooth and crisp. I have had mine for several months, and have run about 1,000 rounds through it. I have shot factory .38 125 grain full metal flat point, factory .38 158 grain full metal flat point, factory .38 158 grain lead round nose, handload .38 125 grain plated flat point, handload .38 140 grain lead wad cutter, handload .38 158 grain lead semi-wad cutter, factory .357 magnum 125 grain jacketed flat point, and factory .357 158 grain lead round nose. The gun likes them all.
    The only quirk is that when you are shooting rapid double action, you have to be sure to fully release the trigger. There is a point where you get a tactile feel short of the full release and your instant may be to pull again at that point. If you try to pull at that point but before full release it won't rotate or fire. Also, the ejection stroke is a little shorter than full case length. A vigorous stroke on the ejection rod will clear the cases, but a timed one may not clear them all.

    Finish is called stonewash. Basically tubmbled in a media. Great for hiding scratches, used for blades in the knife world often.

    Just bought one May '21. Very happy. Paid $1000 plus tax. A tiny touch of buyer's remorse the next day but then I started shooting it. Very happy now! I wanted a conceal carry revolver in 357. King Cobra shoots reasonably straight. Probably won't do much target shooting with magnum loads but it spits 38s nice. So far carry it with hot 357 loads and hope to never need it. I have had a Python for 40 years and the trigger on this gun compares very well. I surprised myself shooting double action as it is so identical to the original Python that I really didn't notice any difference... same pull, same hold spot, and same let off. I shoot da in that three step mode... pull to get hammer back, get sight picture, and bang. Kills tin cans dead at 50ft. I have a couple other revolvers and a couple three autos but this is my summer carry choice. Winter I go 1911 because it fits perfectly in the inside pocket of my winter work coat. This fits well in the back pocket of my Dickies work pants... long shirt to cover. Just an unarmed working slob far as the world knows! Looking for a decent cc holster if anyone has an idea.

      I own a night cobra,a king cobra carry and a 4" king cobra.i use the 4 inch at the range every weekend and extremely happy with it.but learned the hard way about hot 357....Norma brand is not for range shooting.after 3 sets my barrel was very hot and the brass cases swell inside the barrel to where you have to pull them out one by one but as a defensive round.....wow!They Really kick compared to my federal brand i usually shoot.Anyhoo for the NC and KCC I bought a galco sr43b holster and it fits both snug.it also has a hammer strap so it keeps it from moving around.the galco sr46b should be perfect for a 4" as well as a 3".it also comes with a hammer strap which I prefer. Hope that helps.

    I have this exact same gun. I put 20 rounds of underwood 125 grain hollowpoint‘s through it and the transfer bar broke. The ammo is rated at 1700 FPS at the muzzle. I’m sending it in to be fixed. I intend to use the same ammo when I get it back but I don’t think this gun will handle a steady diet of the higher powered rounds.

    Great review. Just bought the latest version online. They said it was in stock, but these days one cannot be sure. Seems to be the exact same revolver as demo'd here. Didn't want the S&W 686-6, was just too big, but all the 4" versions were snapped up. This seemed like a decent carry-able alternative and someone had one in "blem" condition, but new, for $90 off retail.

      If they bring back the Python, I hope they have the old style trigger guard, not this kind of squared looking thing. In fact it should be bright polished stainless or Royal Blue and as close to the original as a CNC can make it. This is just my opinion, of course, but that's the only Python I would be interested in.

    • @johnwayne7476
      @johnwayne7476 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anderson C Science has proved a 3 /4 inch barrel is just as accurate as a longer one, also magnum pistol powders produce max FPS in a 3 “ barrel and making it longer actually slows bullets and create more cylinder gap gas blow by. 3” is scientifically superior. I like longer barrels aesthetics and balance better myself. Really liking this revolver, better than a cobra I shot . I thought it’s a Taurus 85 that says colt on it. This revolver looks like a COLT!

    • @johnwayne7476
      @johnwayne7476 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Logan Waltz Yes I know you are correct. But only to a limited extent. A 4” 38 special +p produces 200 fewer FPS than a 1-7/8 the inch 357 magnum. The 357 out of a 4” is nearly 33% more FPS than the 4”38special +p . When shot from 3” barrel the mag is only about 100-150 FPS slower than the 4” . Similar numbers come from the 38 +p 3” vs 4 “ . After 6” any increase is negligible and very meager at best . I want a 3” to replace my Tarus 85 . 38 special 158 grain round point pure lead bullets drivin slightly faster than speed of sound will drop any man center shot with it. It will always be my 1st shot out of my pocket gun. Brake a man’s back with a 38 special he will drop his firearm and crumple into a pile. I’d rather hit what I aim at that blow a big hole in whatever I hit. 38 special 1-7/8ths “ barrel Tarus 85 . I can shred a soda can at 40 large paces . At 15- yards I cut clover leafs with it . Regularly shoot 1 gal jugs at almost 100 yards with it. ( I gotta hold it correct’ the sights are not on that far away. They hit a little high at 40 paces. I understand what your saying. I only wanted to point out the difference is not dramatic. Bigger barrel does have real intimidation power . No one want to look down any barrel at a shooter, if he has a 6+ “ barrel all the worse.

    Watching this video, 4 years later, confirms why I wait a year or two before buying a gun after its initial release (or re-release in this case). So the manufacturer can work out the kinks, or in this case make the finish much more beautiful.
    Personally, I REALLY dislike the finish on the 2019’s. In 2022 and 2023, when I purchased the 2 and 3 inch versions, the finish is absolutely beautiful. Just short of a mirror finish.

      Yes, the early 2018 Cobras had the same Hogue Monogrip Tamer. It was the same model that Colt first used on the short-lived Magnum Carry twenty years ago. It also fits legacy D-Frames like the Detective Special.
      The screw merely threads into Hogue's add-on stirrup, which can be removed if you want to replace the Monogrip with conventional two-piece stocks. You might need to fit a stock locator pin to the frame, but some aftermarket stock manufacturers already ship this pin with their Colt stocks.

    I've been doing dry-fire practice everyday since I got the new Colt using a lightswitch or door knob as a point of aim. The trigger is getting progressively smoother as the metal parts burnish. One complaint I have is the stock Hogue grip. It is rather to narrow and sort for my big hands. My pinky doesn't sit firmly and comfortably on the grip bottom. I need a longer and fatter grip that fits this gun. Two-hand hold is not too bad and will be used in most defensive shooting situations, but I don't feel my hand is firmly planted on enough grip real estate with single-hand hold in either hand. One should practice pistol marksmanship with both right and left hands. One should master double-action mode and proper trigger reset. Dry-fire can develop a lot of trigger-control training.
    Looking at recoil tables for a handgun cartridges, my new 1.75 pound King Cobra should be on par with a standard 1911 .45 firing .357 rounds at about 8 foot-pounds or so. I've had lot of live firing practice with 1911s. They hurt your elbows when resting them on a wooden bench, however. The 1911 has a more hand-filling grip than this Cobra, however.

    I wish the the Colt Cobra could handle occasional .357 magnum. It would have been my choice. But now that both the Cobra and King Cobra are approved for sale in California I expect prices to stabilize in the lower direction. The King can be a full-time .357 shooter, just like my S&W 686P.

    Absolutely gorgeous. So, for me, it's either this or a Ruger GP100-Match Champion. Either way, I'm guessing that I'll be spending close to a grand by the time I'm ready to buy. Have both, the 3 in. Colt is excellent for a 3 inch, but it would be very difficult to surpass the Match Champion in a 4 inch, unless it was a new Python. A 4 inch Cobra in my opinion would

      @@richty3845 , thanks for the update. Yeah, I held the Match Champion a few weeks ago and man, what a perfect fit. Now, I don't have particularly large hands but the MC seems a bit smaller than I estimated it would be from the videos I've seen. Still, love the weight and just outstandingly balanced feel. Thanks, again.

    I had a six-inch King Cobra back in 1991...unfortunately I got in a financial bind and sold it. Personally, I would love to see Colt make some carbon-steel versions of these new revolvers and hopefully we'll see a return of the Python.

    I went from shooting a 500 magnum daily to this. I'm not trying to be that guy but trust me. Shooting a very large caliber like a 44 45 or even the 500 really helps with shooting a caliber like 357 when it comes to recoil.

    I’m glad Colt is back in the revolver business however, these just look cheap. They look like Taurus or Charter Arms. Not sure if it’s the finish or what, but they’re lacking something. Certainly not worth the high price. Same goes for most new Smith and Wesson’s. Just don’t have that same finesse or feel to them. Personally the only one that does have that quality feel and utterly dependable track record to boot is a Ruger SP101. Those guns are very well made, quality, and actually have sort of the feel of an older Smith or Colt. I’m glad Colt doesn’t have the internal locks but I’d like to see them smooth out some of the rough edges and maybe start offering some classic Colt versions with wood grips.

    It is an expensive gun, depends what you want it for. For $1500 I could buy 3 really good high capacity pistols, namely glock, cz and beretta. However, if you don't care how much you spend and only want a 6 shooter, buy it. Each to his own I guess.

    Once owned a highly polished stainless Colt King Cobra 4". Never could get past the two drilled holes in the top strap and those little black nylon plugs. Hammer also looked casted and contained a couple of goofs. Traded for a Springer .45 stainless. Later purchased a SW 686+ 4" and have never looked back.

  • @DrKreiger
    @DrKreiger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I noticed you mentioned how large this is a couple of times. How does it compare to the Cobra dimensionally, outside of the obvious extra inch of barrel? I thought they were essentially the same, other than the top strap being a little thicker.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are in the process of doing a comparison between them, and handling them concurrently - they are not as much different as it seemed. The barrel is longer of course. Other than that they are actually quite similar.

    I have an sp101 engraved. So far that is the only revolver that has broken my heart and left me hanging at the wrong fucking time. I was gonna buy another, but than the K6s came out, i bought one and realized why the sp101 would lock up and not fire. Random... the ejector rod is paper thin. No reviews, so far, have addressed it. I'm curious as to if the King Cobra will suffer the same issues. Great video...

    • @rngrscott
      @rngrscott 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap imitation of the King. This is a Joker. None of the finer details are present re: trigger, hammer spur, adj sight, detail re ejector shroud housing, top rib, emblem on grip ... all not present on this cheap Joker. A real mockery of the original King. Very disappointing. I will wait until Colt decides to do justice to the original revolvers ... and not throw us cheap rehashing of the past.
