Thanks for the review. The funny thing about being an audiophile is sometimes you love things that might not be likable to the community. Still, you enjoy it. I love the lushness and thick sound that some iems have, like JH audio Roxanne or Layla, but many audiophiles might not like that tuning and present, but it makes me wanna listen more and engage me with the sound.
This is the way! Everyone is unique and will like different things for different reasons, lean into what you like and be happier for it ha! Cheers thanks for the comment!
The funny thing is a lot of gear that measures well will not always sound good, and a lot of gear that measures poorly will sound great. But instead the hobby is too much about reading graphs and fr and seeking ever more neutral tunings, which is kind of funny.
Thanks for the review. I have one arriving on Monday. I have a Jutunheim, which I love, and am looking forward to comparing the two. Very excited about this one.
I just tried and couldn’t get it to work via direct USB connection… but it might work if your TV or monitor has audio out. You could get a headphone 3.5mm to rca cable adapter… that should work. Or maybe another adapter if your tv does t have rca audio outs
I prefer R2R or AKM based DACs… I think Geshelli has the new AkM DAC chip in one of there DACs… But depending on budget and preferences for sound and aesthetics it’s hard to recommend anything:)
Have you tried Bottlehead mainline? Would love to hear your thoughts on it. I own the crack and mainline and both pair so well and but sound so different with my atriums.
@@TylersEclectic They're based here in our area, too! I believe Bainbridge Island, IIRC? I built and upgraded Crackatwoa and it's superb with high-impedance cans.
I had Mainline and I found it to be more solid state sounding ie clean and lean and not wet like normal tube amp. Works for those who like that kind of sound signature
Haven’t tried with caldera… but it should do fine! The DAC chip or DAC paired will help fine tune it to your preferences… but, with the RAD-0 I have on hand I dig it for the metal I tried… adds some warmth to it while the ESS chip I have installed in mine kept the highs splashy
I am listening with my Stellia on it… not the same but, it’s my only Focal currently… anyhow, very nice combo, I’m leaning towards mid-level gain over low and high with the Maximus… but High is fun ha. I could see the warmth of the Maximus complimenting the Utopia honestly. It is definitely a good combo with the Stellia
From memory, I would say the Bryston is the “better” amp… but not by much. I think form factor and “good enough” brings the other amps up higher. But the Bryston is “technically” the better overall amp… as I recall it actually has a very similar sound signature to the Maximus🤔
In your last video, I commented about being on the fence of buying PMax. I’m weak and FOMO set in so I got it anyways lol. Surprisingly wasn’t a repetitive purchase compared to my beloved RebelAmp. I can’t tell which one I like more, but they sound very different. PMax is more intimate, smooth, warmer, and mid focus. RebelAmp has a very slight U tonality with emphasis on soundstage and does a much better job of recreating a room like feel, while being a little dryer sounding. Which one is better seems very song dependent. I’m glad your vid partially convinced me to get PMax.
@@TylersEclectic Did you get a chance to compare PMax to DSHA-3FN? Not anything I can afford, but wondering if there’s a similarity in sound between CeeTee’s Schiit collabs and his big boy amp.
@@TheMatrixxProjekt not directly… but off memory I’d say the DSHA is a different beast. Both are exceptional amps, but I’d say the Maximus is a stupid good deal for the amp. the DSHA is the better amp in technical performance, but I personally prefer the Maximus 🫣
Nice one Tyler. I think we need to call the Pietus Maximus the P-Max to make life simpler. I took a leap of faith and ordered the P-Max with the Mulitbit DAC last night. Hope I chose wisely. I actually like this Nitsch color better than the Schiit Black and Silver colors and this volume knob
I agree on the color way, So nice looking. P-Max… definitely easier for my horrible pronunciation skills ha! Let me know what you think when you get it in and have some listening time with it
@@TylersEclectic As you say... Words. We all seem to mangle them at times. I'll definitely check back in once I get it next week and spend some time with it. Really hoping the Caldera pairs well with it
Haha, I feel like we were just talking about this at one point or another. I still wanna listen to it, but the whammy does have hold on me. Maybe there will be some at Canjam NYC or maybe something I can borrow at some point from a friend. Great video man. Hype does get to me so often haha. You just wanna feel the joy that someone else is feeling, it's addictive.
It would be on par with Jot2 but with more warmth in the mids and lows… I personally bought this unit after having it in house… is it worth more… for me yes, but ultimately that is a determination for each individual. I think the Maximus has more character than the Jot2… but, it’s been awhile since I’ve heard the jot2 so also take with a bit of salt my opinion :)
Great review, can't wait to hear this next month!
I liked it so much I purchased the demo unit!
Great video and message about hype/being honest about yourself which isn’t said enough. Good to have a reminder every now and then 🍻

I’ve only heard the mainline at a friends … I thought it was really good at the time… I should look into building one🤔
its a little daunting compared to the crack lol. I upgraded the caps in mine and its fantastic. Only complaint is that its not really very powerful

I think the Pietus Maximus has more power, but the whammy has plenty enough to power majority of headphones
