I got the Snakeoil RCA bridge for my Modi/Magni stack and its great! In fact, I got one in plastic instead of wood and the B stock version of that to save a couple bucks since I'll never see it where it lives anyway and it still looks fine especially compared to a grip of cables.
Idk, it must be me getting progressively bored and neurotic but I bought the stack back in Oct. and for the past 2 weeks I've been using my Element 2 and Heresy and not the Magnius. The Modius powers the Heresy and sometimes the Element if I get the itch to plug and unplug something. Everything was smooth sailing until I my HD 600 into them after I hadn't used the 600 in months (I lent them to my dad along with a "gifting" him an Atom stack while we chatting one day; it was because I couldn't stand watching him die in World of Tanks to tanks I knew he'd hear if he would just use headphones instead of the speakers on a 27" iMac, smh.) Anyways he had to move his desk and I took the opportunity to switch him to a pair of SHP9600s because I'd realized I had only used 650s and 660s on the Schiitius stack. I plugged the 600s in and I was disgusted so I tried them on the Element to see what was bothering me. I ended up listing to music and forgetting to plug them back into the Magnius :| ... In the end I probably had an ear infection or something because for a little while the Modius was sounding really sibilant through all the amps on my desk atm (Element 2, ^^^, and Heresy). Now everything is Gucci again, weird af. I could just be going crazy though. Currently listening to the Heresy with the top removed because 1) I'm waiting on my new Asgard 3 to be delivered, 2) I've never really liked balanced even though I've had a 789 for a year, and 3) I think the circuit board/PCB is a work of art and I'm really getting the urge to build my own amp and trying to replicated the sound of the Heresy seems like a good first challenge. Sorry for the rant, I'm done. Idk if you can relate but I don;t know anyone who's into audio, technology, art, and design. Society sometimes feels like it takes all 4 of those for granted and don't seem to understand enough about those subjects to give them the respect that I feel they deserve :(

I'm not a audiophile but pursuit of better sound than my laptop and gaming headset lead me to Fulla 3 + Drop 59x Jubilee purchase a year ago and that's how I got started. I was very tempted to go with Magni+Modi but was wish-wash for a while but then Schiit dropped Magnius so I pulled triggered on that first. Then I was like, well, stack would look better and wonder what "better" DAC would sound like so I purchased Modius. so going from Fulla 3 to Magnius+Modius stack, it's night and day difference. now I'm wondering what Gumbi and Yiggy sounds like but they are way out of my budget so I just watch youtube reviews about them.
filovirus1 That’s kind of what I do now too. From my POV I only have 4-5 things left to do and then I’m done buying audio gear and that’s when I’ll hopefully start making the gear instead. Can’t wait to get my Asgard 3 and then I’m only missing a....bunch of cool stuff, like more than 5 😅(most notably tubes). Looks like I might be trapped 😂
filovirus1 Asgard 3 came in a couple days ago and my Dad is now using the Magnius. The A3 and a Modius is now officially my daily driver. Listening to my BLON-03 on it rn and I’m kicking myself for not listening to IEMs more often. I’m surprised Z doesn’t have a review of it up but he makes his money from the Amazon affiliate links so it’s understandable. I was wondering why it took him so long to review the Magnius until I remembered that. The A3 really feels like the only amp someone would have to buy. The Element 2 is my bedside setup for when I want to lay in bed and use a laptop. Yes, I’m weird. If someone had $400 USD to spend on Amp/DAC setup (after headphones) I’d point them to either one because it’s almost down to aesthetics at this price point if they’re not looking to go into the deep end of audio equipment like Op-amp/Tube rolling. You can get into Op-amp rolling for ~$60 USD with some of the chi-fi amps on Amazon; notably the $30 USD ‘Douk Audio’ amplifier. (I don’t count my 90s Denon DRA-635R stereo receiver that I use to power my speakers just because it’s 22lb box of vintage Class A and if I had longer cables it’d be on my dresser, not my desk. My setup is pretty much fully class A now.) I really should sell a lot of my gear that isn’t getting use but I can’t bring myself to do it just yet. 🥲
Been hoping for this review for awhile. Glad Zeos likes it so much. I have owned this stack for a while and absolutely love it. Just got the Asgard 3 to compliment my stack. Love having an amp with balls and quality sound for my balanced AND single ended cans. Not to mention the option to have an op driven amp AND class a/b amp at my finger tips connected to the Modius. Win, win, win!
I'll have the same setup soon too! Did you go with the Silver or Black color scheme? I have a completely matte black setup PC and Audio wise (or as close as possible). It looks sexy af with my 660s and an Element 2 that I want to say is being the "third" wheel but it just radiates Chad energy with is glowing white halo and its "2001: A Space Odessey monolith" form factor lmao

balldrips That is a crazy good deal, congrats! I think I got mine on Amazon sold by Amazon brand new for 400ish when they were still retailing for 500ish. It probably had something to do with me constantly looking at the listing and Amazon kept dropping the price over the weeks. They’re probably almost tied for listening hours with my 600s because of the distancing.
@@balldrips curious how you feel about the 660s on this setup? I have the 58x and 6xx and I know they’re all pretty similar but do you think the subtle difference is worth adding the 660s so my collection?
I ordered this stack soon after the Magnius was released and have been loving it. Z, any thoughts on the "true balanced" implementation here, as compared to the 789 that technically isn't balanced through the volume pot? I don't know enough to know if that really matters

Other than the review info, the one thing I get from your reviews is utter confirmation of my OCD and neurosis/psychosis? 1) the black/silver stack is killing me. 2) When the volume was at max on high gain, regardless of the music being paused, my anxiety level is through the roof.

Zeos, can you please tell how Midgard is compared to Jotunheim regarding headphone amplification? I like headphone/balance out switch on the front Jotunheim has. Is it worth extra $200? I am looking into buying the Magnius/Modius stack, however I prefer speakers over headphones. What is your thoughts about getting the Gjallarhorn amp for the stack to drive speakers?
Just ordered this amp today. Sold my A90/SMSL SU-9 stack a few months ago. It was OK, I just felt like build quality was crap. Particularly the knob feel, and the plastic caps covering the RCA inputs were extremely difficult to get off. So much so I was worried I was going to break something getting them off. I just hope I'm not disappointed in this. I don't do a lot of stationary listening, but for only $200 I figured I'd give it a shot.
Why has Schiit not ventured into offering multiple colors? Or even custom colors? Sales would be through the roof if you could get a stack matching your favorite team or even just red or purple would look so amazing in this combo.

I've got a Heresy/Modi 3 setup with a Liquid Spark I'll use for stuff that needs more oomph. So. I clearly don't need this. I...I don't need it...Maybe just the Magnius. Also, 17:18. A surprise, to be sure, butt a welcome one.
I'm thinking about the smsl su 8 and smsl thx 888 stack. is the Magnus good enough to compete with the thx888? Any ideas on the best ~$500 balanced stack. Last time I was paying attention the thx amps were the king of affordable amps. Primary cans will be the audeze lcd-x
I just got the Magnius to drive my Elex/Fostex Ebony on Balanced. FYI, the SE is lopsided at low volumes due to how they cut costs to join the Bal grounding to SE output. If you only use SE, just stick to Magni/Heresy/Modi. For Balanced: Magnius/Modius Stack is legit all the hype you're pumping here.

Would you recommend the magnius modius stack for $400 for the hd 6xx/for future headphone purchases? Is it the best stack/standalone amp/dac in this price point?
Zeos, help me brother (or anyone lol).. I record music and awhile ago got a 8i6 which I'm happy enough with, but seems like it can't drive 250 ohm well, or planars (understand they need a higher current?).. Ik thinking of keeping it as my DAC and grabbing the magnus as a headphone amp, the 8i6 has two sets of balanced outs so I think it should work well? Is there a better option? Driving dt770 250ohm and 4xx, but want to future proof.. Was also looking at Zen can and L50... Too many options!
I'm trying to educate myself in this space. It's confusing learning from scratch, so I'll just put the question out there. What is a good starter to mid level dac/amp? I know this space can get expensive, so I'd say my limit is about 1k. Something not overly complicated. Just something easy to setup and listen with excellent quality. I'm using it just for good sound quality for movies, music, and gaming. I'm not producing audio or anything professional like that. Thanks.
If you get an interface with solid converters(Audient ID14?) you can run the balanced outs into a headphone amp that takes balanced inputs - a stack may not be needed if you’re needing something with mic pre’s.
Would you recommend the Schiit Magnus/Modius stack or the SU-9/SH-9 for a BeyerDynamic DT177X GO with custom balanced cable from AudioHart. I want to have room for upgrade. Thanks !
@@hugevibez they run the same price assuming you get the asgard without a dac module. If you don't have balanced anything, the asgard is the better option
What is this, Toolception..? I was also listening to Forty six & 2 just before watching this. Btw Zeos, have you ever been contacted or reached out to Kennerton, they have some amazing headsets. (I believe the Fischer Audio ones you tested last year is are from a subsidiary that makes the less expensive stuff)
It's a really good fully balanced stereo pre amp too, nobody mentions that. Try and find a balanced stereo pre amp with Magnius' specs for under the price of the Benchmark LA4. I got one for single knob control for theater subwoofers
I'm powering my topping d10s with one of those usb battery packs and to my ears made big difference. Also now i can use my phone on d10s since has separate power. I just had to cannibalize 2 usb cables and it works like charm. My whole point is maybe it's not bad idea to power DAC with battery pack. I might be totally wrong but i like better sound of my d10s this way. Only downside is that i have to charge battery pack. But it lasts more than 7 days of intense listening (not continuously but several hours a day)....
Modius is dry but useable, Magnius sent two back because of the humming volume knob, bought the AAA 789 and have been happy with that amp. Good video thanks.

would you take an eqed hd 800 s or an eqed current model lcd-2 fazor? it would be used as my primary audio solution for gaming, music (mostly edm but i listen to everything else also), and movies/anime and everything else and how does the magnius compare to the monoprice 788 amp/combo please and thanks
I've had the same dilemma of a question - I did some research on this and people are saying the Monoprice amp/dac combo has a higher noise floor, so it's not as good for sensitive IEMs, which I have, and that's a bummer being a Monoprice fanboy. I bought the schiit dac+amp thanks to this review, and can't wait to see how well it performs from the low- and high-end.
Try liquid spark dac with schiit asgard 3. I can't think of a better dac amp combo for 300 dollar that can beat the stack for pure enjoyment. If I had money I'd pay you to build that stack and use it with every single heapdhone on your wall. 😂 Like that guy did For koss video.. 😂 But alas I'm so poor that I'm yet to pay my friend who bought me hip dac and p1 and a 4.4 cable .. 😂

Even if you’re not from the US you should be happy something isn’t made in China. I’m American and love when I see stuff is made in Germany, England, etc, I pay way more for something if I can avoid China.
I don't understand why the Magni makes more power than the single output of the Magnius. If it made the same single ended power I would get it without question.
It's because they use one phase of the balanced topology on the Magnus. The thought behind this was that the amp is designed for balanced and they didn't want to reduce the quality of the balanced output to improve the single ended output.
so i cant run the magnius with my ps4? am I going to have to get a new laptop or vinyl player to use this amp? I have no idea what im doing. Been using mayflower arc for gaming and listing to music with ps4.
You can use the optical output of the PS4 into the ARC, and the RCA outputs of the ARC into the Magnius (or any other headphone amp you get). Plug in your headphones and enjoy. The Magnius does sound its best running its balanced outputs to a balanced amp according to what I've read, so maybe get a Magni 3+ or a Vali 2+ if you're not going to upgrade the ARC.

Zeos, can you please tell how Midgard is compared to Jotunheim regarding headphone amplification? I like headphone/balance out switch on the front Jotunheim has. Is it worth extra $200? Just ordered this amp today. Sold my A90/SMSL SU-9 stack a few months ago. It was OK, I just felt like build quality was crap. Particularly the knob feel, and the plastic caps covering the RCA inputs were extremely difficult to get off. So much so I was worried I was going to break something getting them off. I just hope I'm not disappointed in this. I don't do a lot of stationary listening, but for only $200 I figured I'd give it a shot.

I just got the Magnius to drive my Elex/Fostex Ebony on Balanced. FYI, the SE is lopsided at low volumes due to how they cut costs to join the Bal grounding to SE output. If you only use SE, just stick to Magni/Heresy/Modi. For Balanced: Magnius/Modius Stack is legit all the hype you're pumping here.

I may be wrong, but that Fumann unit might be best positioned at the highest position of the rack to make use of the rack lights.

I record music and awhile ago got a 8i6 which I'm happy enough with, but seems like it can't drive 250 ohm well, or planars (understand they need a higher current?).. Ik thinking of keeping it as my DAC and grabbing the magnus as a headphone amp, the 8i6 has two sets of balanced outs so I think it should work well? Is there a better option? Driving dt770 250ohm and 4xx, but want to future proof.. Was also looking at Zen can and L50... Too many options!

I'm trying to educate myself in this space. It's confusing learning from scratch, so I'll just put the question out there. What is a good starter to mid level dac/amp? I know this space can get expensive, so I'd say my limit is about 1k. Something not overly complicated. Just something easy to setup and listen with excellent quality. I'm using it just for good sound quality for movies, music, and gaming. I'm not producing audio or anything professional like that. Thanks.

If you get an interface with solid converters(Audient ID14?) you can run the balanced outs into a headphone amp that takes balanced inputs - a stack may not be needed if you’re needing something with mic pre’s.

Btw Zeos, have you ever been contacted or reached out to Kennerton, they have some amazing headsets. (I believe the Fischer Audio ones you tested last year is are from a subsidiary that makes the less expensive stuff)
It's a really good fully balanced stereo pre amp too, nobody mentions that. Try and find a balanced stereo pre amp with Magnius' specs for under the price of the Benchmark LA4. I got one for single knob control for theater subwoofers

I'm powering my topping d10s with one of those usb battery packs and to my ears made big difference. Also now i can use my phone on d10s since has separate power. I just had to cannibalize 2 usb cables and it works like charm. My whole point is maybe it's not bad idea to power DAC with battery pack. I might be totally wrong but i like better sound of my d10s this way. Only downside is that i have to charge battery pack. But it lasts more than 7 days of intense listening (not continuously but several hours a day)....

Modius is dry but useable, Magnius sent two back because of the humming volume knob, bought the AAA 789 and have been happy with that amp. Good video thanks.

I've had the same dilemma of a question - I did some research on this and people are saying the Monoprice amp/dac combo has a higher noise floor, so it's not as good for sensitive IEMs, which I have, and that's a bummer being a Monoprice fanboy.
I bought the schiit dac+amp thanks to this review, and can't wait to see how well it performs from the low- and high-end.

Try liquid spark dac with schiit asgard 3. I can't think of a better dac amp combo for 300 dollar that can beat the stack for pure enjoyment. If I had money I'd pay you to build that stack and use it with every single heapdhone on your wall. 😂 Like that guy did For koss video.. 😂

Even if you’re not from the US you should be happy something isn’t made in China. I’m American and love when I see stuff is made in Germany, England, etc, I pay way more for something if I can avoid China.
I don't understand why the Magni makes more power than the single output of the Magnius. If it made the same single ended power I would get it without question.
It's because they use one phase of the balanced topology on the Magnus. The thought behind this was that the amp is designed for balanced and they didn't want to reduce the quality of the balanced output to improve the single ended output.
so i cant run the magnius with my ps4? am I going to have to get a new laptop or vinyl player to use this amp? I have no idea what im doing. Been using mayflower arc for gaming and listing to music with ps4.
You can use the optical output of the PS4 into the ARC, and the RCA outputs of the ARC into the Magnius (or any other headphone amp you get). Plug in your headphones and enjoy. The Magnius does sound its best running its balanced outputs to a balanced amp according to what I've read, so maybe get a Magni 3+ or a Vali 2+ if you're not going to upgrade the ARC.
