History
PICK 'N PILE is a video game published by Ubisoft in 1990. It was developed for various platforms, including the Atari 2600. The game is a Tetris-style puzzle game and was well-received by players and critics alike. Allen Greenberg reviewed the game for Computer Gaming World and stated that Pick 'n Pile will probably never reach the obsessive heights enjoyed by Tetris or Lemmings. However, it has an original flavor and charm to it which should earn it a following.
Scenario
In PICK 'N PILE, colored shapes crash to the ground and collide. The player's objective is to organize whichever pieces did not explode. The game is set on a type of board where various symbols are thrown, and your goal is to stack them to make them disappear, accumulating points. The game ends when the playfield is completely filled with symbols, and there's no room for new blocks to fall.
How to Play?
The player moves the symbols around to create columns which contain identical symbols. Once all the symbols in a column are the same, that column disappears. Your goal is to earn points and complete the levels by making all of the symbols on the screen disappear. Occasionally, you may become stuck with a symbol that doesn't match anything onscreen; when this happens, you can call for an additional symbol to drop onto the screen. Each level has a time limit in which it needs to be completed; run out of time and you lose a life; lose all lives and the game is over. In addition to the regular symbols, there are also some special objects on the screen which may help or hinder your progress. These include bombs which destroy several symbols at once, blocks which may get in the way or be arranged to help out, death heads which diminish time more quickly, and flower pots which can't be moved.
