    Sings like a black bluesman
He got the deep south & the mississippi flows in his veins
Best blues singer Britain has produced, as much as i love Paul rogers, i gota say Steve just pips him at the post...Lordy that voice

I've been having the same conversation with my best friend about how great Steve is. For a while I was crazy about Paul but I finally realized that Steve was better than anybody. I don't know how he got all that soulful volume out & stayed on key but it was some spectacular singing. Great guitarist and very unique harmonica player. He was truly appreciated in Great Britain 🇬🇧 but not quite as much in the US 🇺🇸. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎤🌟💕

      Hey, thanks for replying
I think the origional version of this song was sung by
      Doctor John the Night Tripper
But, i could be wrong, i know it came out in the early 1970s & because i listened to alot of west coast bands ( USA) like Camel,
Its a Beautiful Day, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Captain Beefheart, The flying Burrito Brothers & Doctor John.
Im not American btw, i live in the far north of England near the Scottish Borders but in 1970, 72, 73 lived in London where there were some amazing bands out then & slowly turned my musical taste to Led Zepp, P Floyd, Ten Years After, Sabbath & D Purple but my favourite being Free with Paul Rodgers & Kossoff. I saw them play live many times.
I doubt a pass a day without listening to Free & Humble Pie with Stevie M.
Did u know the girl singing with him on his Black Coffee track was the brilliant PP Arnold ?
Think steve & PP had a thing going.
Anyway its great to hear from you & others who appreciate when music was the very best ever.

@@Mff48 Hey Catherine! I was a huge Grand Funk fan, had all their albums. Nowadays, my son plays GFR from time to time, so that's cool. I was 14 at the time and travelled 250 miles with a friend to attend. GFR had a reputation at the time for being the loudest rock and roll band in the world. The way I saw it, most of the crowd seemed to be really nice hippies - all good! The whole day was fantastic and finished with my favourite band blasting out numbers I knew backwards. I was in a sort of heaven. An epic day.
Sometimes, I think bands have their place in time. For instance, I love Eminem's early stuff but I don't think I'd go see him perform nowadays. Same with GFR. That was then and this is now. Anyway, if you are determined, I'm sure you'll find a way. Good luck and thanks for your comment.

According to Ronnie Wood in his autobiography "Ronnie", Marriott was Richards' first choice to replace Mick Taylor in '75. But Jagger didn't want anything to do with Marriott. Can't blame him, really. Marriott's natural talent was scary to many of his contemporaries. And Jagger wasn't going to let anyone steal his thunder.

I was lucky enough to see "The Frampton Era" Humble Pie (the best line-up in my opinion) numerous times in the NYC area from 1968-71, including several times at the Fillmore East, where they played so often that they were almost like the house band. I am convinced that I am the person you can hear yelling "Gilded Splinters" on the PERFORMANCE album. On their best nights no one rocked harder. It was a shame to watch them and Marriot spiral downward into cocaine and alcohol oblivion. R.I.P. Steve and Greg.

Stevie M was bigger than both Paul Rodgers and Rod Stewart in the sixties. The last
two named mentioned did not rise into the public psyche until the 70's. Whether it was Stevie himself that couldn't sustain the momentum to super stardom or whether it was that his talent was just taken for granted by the public and music press. This I couldn't say, I like to think it was the latter case.
Growing up as a mod, Stevie will always be special to me.

Dragon, I think it was more the grind of endless concerts in the late 70’s early 80’s fueled by way too much booze & drugs... The body just can’t take that.

Although the Fillmore version is great, this one is my favorite. More harp and different lyrics, plus it's SO wonderful to see them live. Read in Jerry Shirley's book, that this particular festival was a real nightmare , pouring rain, fog, cold, instruments out of tune, people leaving early. Out of all that, they pulled a fabulous performance. Steve oozes soul.

@dac13221 Steve Marriott was the leader / frontman of the Small Faces. He left to form Humble Pie. He was never anything to do with the Faces, which was Rod Stewarts group. All this is important because both bands are being inducted into the RRHoF next month and it is crucial that the two bands are dealt with separately as separate entities. Marriott's band is the most deserving and the longest overdue for the recognition

I saw them at Pocono raceway in 72 , wiki has it wrong , they were on after Edgar Winter and the white trash at about 11pm . They were awesome ! The track had a 360 degree array of speakers and Steve Marriot was throwing his vocals in different directions as if he had a 4 channel joystick .
