I heard Jimmy Page wanted him for Zeppelin but he turned down the gig ..... So did another ....I forget his name ..... Then Jimmy was told about Plant singing up North and went to see him and found his man
Totally to different singers Steve & Plant
Fortunately Steve left us all a great legacy of superb music!
i was super disappointed in his solo album "Marriott". Most of the songs are weak and the production is awful.
“Tom Mix stand in”
I had to Google Tom Mix:
He was Hollywood's first Western star and helped define the genre as it emerged in the early days of the cinema.
Great band, Steve Marriott's voice and delivery, just outstanding, what a loss.
I think Jagger called it right; SM would have been a nightmare. I love how Pie were all so in the zone. That performance was other-worldly.
God I LOVE this band!!!! So original!!! So under rated!!!!!! 40% Better all around from the Stones.
For me Steve is one of the best blues rock voices. Talk about oozing soul! Peter felt it too and I feel was a much cleaner player. Steve has that edgier raw feel that kicks Pie into soul blues rock depth reached by few.
This was the classic lineup and from what I've heard they were insanely good live
Clem Clemson wasn’t chopped liver either
@@ericaward702 No, definitely not. I'm a big fan of Clem's work on Smokin', Eat It & Thunderbox. I feel like the Rockin' the Fillmore shows kind of defined Humble Pie, so that's my reference point for the band
My first big concert of 10,000 screaming bic-lighting fans!!
I was lucky to see them perform LIVE when I was 16 in 1973 at Cobo Arena in Detroit. 3 more X after that. Blew me away all 4X!!!!
Epic rock concerts like that don't exist anymore.
BLOWS MANY AWAY... TODAY.... NEVER BE ANOTHER HUMBLE PIE W/STEVE .... LOVE HIS TRIP .... WHAT A VOICE
Wow what a long way from his Artful Dodger start but this was Steve's golden period his Live act was second to none ..Rock On up there in Heaven sadly missya so much
Für mich der beste Rock und bluessänger der damaligen Zeit. Er mußte viel zu früh von uns GEHEN.RIP STEVIE. ICH HÖRE DIE MUSIK IMMER NOCH.
...Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I had an elementary school classmate whose cousin was from England. We talked about rugby and football. He then talked about Small Faces, Humble Pie; and this lead singer. Now I know why!
Steve Marriot the Mod you can still hear the flavour in his vocal and guitar, one of the best never forgotten.
Steve was incredible. Powerful performance, as always!!!! Humble Pie ROCKED and RULED!!!!!
Steve Marriott was just a monster talent …Frampton with the phoenix lespaul …must have just gotten it..I saw him with an sg custom white in a humble pie video..nice stuff thanks for these videos
Steve has a unique way of channeling from his soul setting the highest bar. His "Mold" from ROCK, upon creation was broken, no other to match...never will. RIP Mr. Marriott.
Love it. "what do you play Pete?" He more than plays, he owns it.
Absolutely brilliant, what a legendary band. ❤❤❤❤
I saw them put on an awesome show at the Pocono raceway in 1972 . There were speakers ringing the raceway and the sound was unbelievable. They were one of many bands that day into the night and onto the next morning , with Rod Stewart and the faces landing by helicopter about 5am in a fog and playing until sunrise . My favorite concert of all time.
You can hear why Mic didn't want him to be a member of the Stones.
socalcde he’s too good
No shit he blows Jagger away
Mick'd be reduced to a roadie in no time carrying Steve's guitar. LOL.😁
@@richardgreen9393 In the same vein as Hendrix blew Clapton away. When he played Clapton's jaws promptly dropped to the floor followed by his guitar as he walked out totally demoralized.
@@bluemarlin2u ....Ha Ha....Roadie Mick. ALL he seems to do is RUIN girls lives! When poor L'wren died, Mick just went out and laid the 1st girl who came along. Ruined her life, as she was 1/2 Mick's daughters age, and all her hopes and dreams of 'Ballet' were destroyed, because of Mick's ego!
What a voice , the power leaves you speechless
I thought I had every video and wandered upon this. Thank you for sharing. Marriott no one can ever replace him.
Big influence on Robert Plant.I like Led Zeppelin but back in the day i think the Pie were the better live band.
Devere Agard No doubt...I saw both of them live and Zeppelin couldn’t come close to upstaging Pie
Actually ,when he left the faces, it took two to replace him,Ron Wood and Rod Stewart
For goodness sake, it's the SMALL Faces that Steve was in. I wish people would stop making this mistake! It drives me nuts. That hack Rod Stewart and Ron Wood didn't have a hope of replacing Steve's talent. Even the presence of Ian, Ronnie and Kenney wasn't enough.
Every time I hear Steve and the boys I begin to think I'm 15 and it's 1969 and I just wanna dance like crazy. Man those boys really get me movin n' a groovin!
Such an authentic performance by the Pie! Had the pleasure to meet Steve when he played pubs in Melbourne 1983.
This is how it was in the beginning, ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
I love watchin this video... Black coffee too... he is fierce how he performs, and so natural too.
FRICKIN UNBELIEVABLE HOW GREAT THIS PERFORMANCE IS!!! STEVE WAS THE REAL DEAL!! ALL OF THEM ARE!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is rock and roll The real Deal
Magic chemistry talent .
what a vocalist and not bad on the guitar either ! glad i saw the Pie in their prime - thank you for posting
Great dynamics.
Playing album Smokin at concert volume got me evicted in 1977.
They had been what I call a Rock Band from tip to toe ! Period.
That Dirk Bogart dude can rock. Steve could learn from him. That talented and a jokester. RIP Mr. Marriott
Steve Marriott had his match that he needed with Peter Frampton. What a sound!
One of the best bands for raw rock and roll.
Peter still has the same recognizable riffs to this day. Many memories from Winterland with Steve and his band of Rockers…Humble Pie rockers!
Damn!!!! Steve Marriot is the best rock vocalist of all time. Goosebumps.
Frampton so young ! always he was a great musician.
Previously in The Herd, when he must have been about 10 LOL!
I'd forgotten just how loud they played, so good!!
Ya’know I for one was happy to see Clem Clemson replace Frampton as lead. Peter played Jazz chords on his solos, which were so contrary to the nature of the songs. As far as Marriott’s singing, he simply did not need a microphone. That humongous voice coming out of that small frame was simply unbelievable. I’m old now, but being a teen at 15 in 1970 I was lucky enough to be in the sweet spot of early rock.
Steve Marriott ... the Rock & Roll animal no 1 ..Steve R.I.P
It's like a revival meeting! Preach it!!
Steve always sounded so authentic to me that it seems at times he ain't from England but rather Jackson TN, or Macon GA, or even Corinth MS. He definitely knew how to put some South in his mouth-as it were.
That boy had some pipes!
Just an amazing voice..I spent a bit of time with Gregg in Spain just before he died..nice bloke everyone was shocked we thought he just had flu..
Rockin the Fillmore is the greatest Live album ever!
I became a Mod because of Steve Marriot with the small faces at the time and followed his music till he left us ,vocals and guitar are second to none ,missed but never forgotten.
